Haji Sulaiman should be an UMNO politician. He was laready so smug and patronising in his ways showing little respect for Imtiaz! Well, at least that was the feeling I got…I hope this is not seditious or defamatory. Commenting about all these lawyers can be a little dangerous la!

Hello Haris,
Just sembang-sembang…about the “debate” between Sulaiman and Imtiaz…what is your feeling about it?
Mine? Sigh…Dunno-le, dunno what to say-le. But Imtiaz has my vote though and Sulaiman? I would like to look at him as like a little child being very, very scare and frighten because there is a big storm with lightning and thunder out there and struggling for some comfort and wishing for it to go away le…
Like I said…let us sembang-sembang, ok? I throw out some and listen to you and respond and so on, can?

Thanks Haris for the link. It was really a highlight for me to finally get acquainted with you face to face in person.
I think your final challenge at the round table yesterday is spot on! How can we move beyond “preaching to the choir” and bridging over to those whom we perceive as “the other” or “on the other side” is crucial.

Hj Sulaiman did not appear to provide any strong points from the point of view of a proponent of an Islamic state (almost to the extent of saying “its like that, wat”), relying considerably on the comments by Sayed Ali Tawfik. I expected more insights from Hj Sulaiman but was disappointed compared to Malik’s factual and cogent replies from the legal and human rights point of view.
Malik acceded that if the Consitution were to be changed to reflect that Malaysia is an Islamic State, then so be it.
There was no such concession from Hj Sulaiman which leads me to think that Hj Sulaiman, a.k.a Krishna Iyer, is reluctant to accept otherwise. I could be wrong but that’s only my simple minded view.

At the end of the debate, Hj Sulaiman said that the people have been living in harmony and that there is no need for a change.
i bet he’s putting the word “harmony” to the very minimum. Very typical Malaysian. (sigh)
Or was he hiding somewhere in a cave?

Hi Harris,
Thks for the link. Malik I thought presented his case very well. Tn Haji to be honest was very dodgy. Why cant he answer the questions and be honest about it. He reminds me of some lame politician making excuses. Tn Haji did not back up his arguments. In my book he failed miserably. It is exactly what the powers that be in Malaysia is trying to do. Hood winking everyone by saying “Look there is peace and harmony. There is nothing wrong. Everybody accepts the way it is”.
Tn. Haji you are very wrong. I say you are blind to the harsh reality that is on the streets. People are afraid.I even have muslim friends who want to migrate as a result of this fear.It is not a small group and mind you Tn. Haji it is not amongst the Non Muslims only. Tn Haji tell your brothers not to only preach but to actually practise that love , kindness and compassion. True love, kindness and compasssion does not have any borders nor any limitations. It is all encompassing and does not discriminate.
I pray for a better Malaysia.

How does the saying go? You can fool some of the people some of the time…

Tuan Haji Sulaiman is not alone in such a view, being dodgy when facing with the facts presented by Malik. But why does he had to be this way?

As much as there is a group for Bangsa Malaysia, there are still those who will want to stay on the status quo…
Haris, do you think God speak in this modern world? And when God speak can man hear it? Just sembang-sembang…
