YB Zaid, you don’t belong in UMNO!
October 25, 2007
The targeted number of signatures for the petition to the Agong to restore the judiciary to the rakyat : 5,000
As at 10pm tonight : 5,036
Yes, we have passed the 5,000 mark.
Did not hand in the petition today as planned, though.
Left Pahang for KL this morning to arrange for the delivery of the petition, supported with 4.934 signatures, to the palace when I received word from the friend who helped me with the language of protocol that he wanted to double-check on a couple of phrases as he feared he might have been mistaken.
Thought it best to defer the submission until this was sorted out.
He’s just called me to say the ‘expert’ that he reverted to has ‘okayed’ the text.
The petition will be submitted tomorrow morning.
Many thoughts to share with all of you on this initiative and the many more I think we can do together.
Will have to wait, though. Going to get some sleep.
I love you all.

Yang Berkhidmat Zaid Ibrahim :
“We need to look into this issue seriously because the state of our judiciary warrants a thorough investigation.”
“This goes to show that the panel is powerless to do anything. I don’t understand. Why didn’t they just form a royal commission of inquiry into the tape?”
“This is not just any allegation, it is a serious allegation. In the 90s, we had a scandal involving the then Chief Justice, and now we have this.”
Read the rest of what Zaid had to say on this whole sordid episode in Malaysiakini.
And yet the defective law minister keeps strutting around saying ‘judiciary no crisis. Lawyers are crazy’ whilst the rest of the government remains shamelessly silent.
Zaid, get out of UMNO, stand as an independent candidate in any constituency in the Klang valley of your choosing in the forthcoming general elections, and this blog will throw its support behind you.

October 25, 2007 at 11:10 pm
YB Zaid, you can count in CTT as another supporter should you wish to stand as an independent candidate.
Yes, we need more independent candidates who can speak our their minds.

Congratulations, Haris, a fellow true Malaysian. I am proud of you.
October 25, 2007 at 11:36 pm
Thanks for all the hardwork, Haris.

YEEESSSSS! CONGRATULATION HARIS & THE TEAM! GOOD JOB,FANTABULOUS INDEED.
i am sure it was exhilarating for all of you, i am! When there was silence for a day and a half, i was asking did he get the 5,000 mark even it didn’t it’s still an achievement. It’s a good omen may the light shine upon you all.
October 25, 2007 at 11:58 pm
Lets see how far this man can go to do the right thing.
October 26, 2007 at 12:34 am
thank you Haris
October 26, 2007 at 1:11 am
Haris,
You Da Man.
YB Zaid at least has some conscience and deserves to be heard.
October 26, 2007 at 1:22 am
What can I say, dear Friend? A monumental effort for reasons that you, and the nation, should not have faced. The Bar standing up and being counted? I have my doubts. There are 12k plus lawyers on the peninsula alone. Where are they?
October 26, 2007 at 1:28 am
Good show, bro.
So the target number of 5000 has been achieved and the petition will be submitted on Friday, the 26th of October ‘07.
I believe you’ll keep new signings rolling in coz there will be others who will become aware and would like to register.
Furthermore, I hope that the Bar Council will also initiate their own inquiries into specific issues brought up during the recent ‘Young lawyers’ forum on the 23rd.
Meanwhile, will ZI cross the rubicon?
October 26, 2007 at 1:32 am
Good show, Haris.
October 26, 2007 at 2:31 am
I have said it many times and I said it to him on Bangsa Malahsia Night. You do not need UMNO. Civil society needs YOU. Like Haris suggested, stand as an independent and I will get support for you. thats a solemn promise.

May God bless you, Haris.
We need more true leaders like you, not the current collection of clowns and thugs.
God bless you, too.
I am no leader. Just another anak Bangsa Malaysia trying to wake up others to the fact that together, we wield immense power to set this country right.
October 26, 2007 at 10:40 am
Congratulations! Thank you and all your friends for all the hard work.

For the greater good of its members I once remained like a silent cell within an organisation. The leaders used it as their personal platform to launch themselves onto a wider playing field. When I did strike..or should I say, paved the way, for clarity to emerge, the organisation got done under. The members prevailed and today have prospered even. But, that, was a small organisation with members not knowing what the leaders were really up to.
In the case of UMNO the members benefit from supporting the leadership, or so it may seem. It is all a questioon of materialism here and a false sense of hope in the UMNO leaders who have sold themselves as their communitys’ leaders and protectors. It is this perception that needs to be clarified to the people, especially the Malays. When the Malays at large stop supporting UMNO and its other allies in the BN, BN will break. I still cannot see the support for MCA,Gerakan and MIC wavering significantly enough to mean anything. Sad;y the Chinese and Indians will never learn.

Before any support should be offered to Zaid Ibrahim, he should first explain publicly why as the then President of the Muslim Lawyers Association he supported the suspension of Tun Salleh Abas and the 5 Supreme Court Judges in the late 1980s.His stand on the independence of the Judiciary has been inconsistent.
I was in England when the events of 1987-88 were unfolding but, if my reading of the numerous material related thereto serves me well, I do not think Zaid ever came out in support of the sacking and suspension of Tun Salleh.
That he played a leading role in the setting up of the highly divisive Muslim Lawyers Association is, in my view, a blot on his resume.

I strongly support the petition and hope the government keep to its promise to crack down corruption in this country. I view the case very seriously as if the leader dont show the correct way, who will? As citizen, i always believe human rights shall be execised the way it should be. Recently, i came across a website : http://www.tiocheehing.zoomshare.com with great interest. I would like you guys bloggers to visit the site as i feel this very ill old man has been given a very affair treatment. Lets share his story with our friends who fight for freedom of speech and human rights.
Cheers.

I agree with you Haris that YB Zaid does not belong in UMNO. He is unique and too visionary to be there. But I recognise that some people do believe in working from within, and I respect their stand.
So wherever you are, YB Zaid, you have my support!
October 27, 2007 at 8:11 am
Good news for this morning! Especially for the petition.
Bravo to the 5036! And to Haris for initiating this.

You are not aware in saying that Zaid Ibrahim did not support the dismissal. He did. He should now clarify what he did.
Zaid, if you do read this blog, over to you.

kudos, haris. and helen must be recharged and soldier on. i have my doubts that getting this magical figure of 5,000 and at last its done.
hey, loud mouth Nazri will come charging that 5,000 is small against the millions of registered voters. but, its a great victory with this baby of political awareness taking its first step. soldier on, haris cause the journey will be long and ardous.
once again, great work haris and god be with you all the way.
