Pizza Hut : The final say?
November 1, 2007
Lawrence Ding of Pizza Hut sent me a request for an opportunity of another post.
It appears below.
People, as Birdseye says, we’ve got other battles to fight.
If you read the latest from Lawrence below, I think you will agree that maybe it is time for closure on this issue.
I’m sure the next time Pizza Hut think of embarking on any strategy planning, they will remember the many sentiments articulated on this issue and, hopefully, take note of the same.
For my part, I want to thank Lawrence for staying the course on these discussions.

Dear all Truth Seekers, Friends and Fellow Bloggers,
I want to thank you for all the feedback and suggestions from the discussion on this matter.
1. I would say that the survey that caused the discomfort was probably done in a little hurry. More thought could have gone into it
and probably a different approach should be considered.
2. I apologize for the discomfort caused.
3. Let me assure you again that it was never done with any evil or malicious intention as stated in my earlier postings.
4. To verify what I say, please visit any Pizza Hut Malaysia nearest you and give me your response thereafter.
Thanks your understanding and I appreciate that you remained engaged with me on this matter.

A closure is best.
Anyway, lets not all patronize Pizza Hut en-bloc and provide a surge in sales for them..

I just patronized pizza hut yesterday and there were many non-Malay customers enjoying their pizza there. The service is still the same, nothing special.
Either there are not many internet surfers reading blogs (ie ignorant of pizza hut’s racist survey) or they just couldn’t bother about this whole issue.
BTW, I just like my pizza!

I don’t think Pizza Hut did anything wrong. Only malicious rumour spreaders did the wrong here.

I read about this racist remarked many months ago, but somehow dismissed it immediately.
Don’t believe everything on the net! Use the cells between your ears.

OK. I take it that you have learnt your lesson. I will now officially lift the boycott on your restaurant. My children and their children thereafter may now patronise your outlets. Be warned, if pull another stunt like this, the boycott will stay. Padan muka!

I’ve not been to Pizza Hut for ages. But after seeing how Lawrence conducts himself in these postings, I’m inclined to revisit it.

Dear Mr Ding,
It is hoped that PH will not fish for facts in sensitve waters for their future business and marketing applications following this episode.
I respect you for your admission and regrets.
As Harris says, lets move on and leave behind this tasteless episode.

Lawrence, being a senior guy of an Americanised franchise organisation, I would have thought that the racial issue is a big no no thing. If you had done this stunt in the US, you would have gotten your butt deep fried to the crisp. Just imagine, B for Black, W for White, Y for Yellow. You should thank your lucky stars you are in Msia, cos Msians are very forgiving and forgetful. However, since you are Lawrence in Msia, beware of the next wave. Just like the Tsunami, its the 2nd wave that kills. Learn from your own KFC’s experience when Tonto got hit, and most recently, Ikea and High 5.

Taking things for granted is a real no-no. I am in no hurry to revisit Pizza Hut but I would give the company a small benefit of the doubt.
The company had better be careful. Another scandal would have destroyed all credibility and it would be most difficult to explain its way out of the mess again!
