Do not utter the lie, saying this is lawful and this unlawful
December 22, 2007
Johari Baharum as reported in Malaysiakini :
‘The word ‘Allah’ can only be used in the context of Islam and not any other religion’
‘Only Muslims can use ‘Allah’. It’s a Muslim word, you see. It’s from (the Arabic (language). We cannot let other religions use it because it will confuse people’
‘We cannot allow this use of ‘Allah’ in non-Muslim publications, nobody except Muslims. The word ‘Allah’ is published by the Catholics. It’s not right.’
God in the Holy Qur’an as translated by Shakir :
Do you apprise Allah of your religion, when Allah knows what is in the heavens and what is in the earth; and Allah is Cognizant of all things? - Surah 49 verse 16
Call upon Allah or call upon, the Beneficent Allah; whichever you call upon, He has the best names; and do not utter your prayer with a very raised voice nor be silent with regard to it, and seek a way between these - Surah 17 verse 110
Do not mix up the truth with the falsehood, nor hide the truth while you know - Surah 2 verse 42
And, for what your tongues describe, do not utter the lie, saying. ‘This is lawful and this is unlawful’, in order to forge a lie against Allah; surely those who forge the lie against Allah shall not prosper - Surah 16 verse 116
Do you then hope that they would believe in you, when a party from among them indeed used to hear the Word of Allah, then altered it after they had understood it, and they know this. And when they meet those who believe they say: We believe, and when they are alone one with another they say: Do you talk to them of what Allah has disclosed to you that they may contend with you by this before your Lord? Do you not then understand? Do they not know that Allah knows what they keep secret and what they make known? And there are among them illiterates who know not the Book but only lies, and they do but conjecture. Woe, then, to those who write the book with their hands and then say: This is from Allah, so that they may take for it a small price; therefore woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to them for what they earn. - Surah 2 verses 75 - 79
