The headline I’ve chosen comes from the title of a book by Aldous Huxley. I love science fiction and its grandmasters Arthur C. Clarke and Isaac Asimov, and the genre’s vintage era authors.

Lately though, I’ve been feeling rather more like the character drawn by younger and contemporary writer Orson Scott Card. The little boy in his Hugo and Nebula-wining novel Ender’s Game is fighting real battles in a ‘cyber’ war. In the book’s sequel Speaker for the Dead, a grown-up Ender learns to give voice to people who can no longer speak for themselves.

One thing I’ve noticed about sci-fi fans: We have imagination. Haris has chosen Martin Luther King as the People’s Parliament icon – the small red-and-blue portrait above “We are many colours” – while our tag alludes to King daring to “have a dream”.

I commend PP participant Kean who said “Being able to take the first step is a big deal for me”. Like the Chinese saying goes, it’s the first step that begins the journey of a thousand li. That’s why my friend Chin Huat was urging that Hartal must encompass a wider and a more long-term vision that keeps the destination in mind, i.e. to take our country back.

Reclaim our rights and our institutions – including MSM – from the rot!

Like Kean, I’m taking steps in new directions too, going to the ground and publicly putting my name to the Hartal campaign. I’ve today chosen the theme ‘Brave New World’ because 2008 is our Year of Courage.

Kean also asked that the older guys, like Birdseye who has 30 years on him, “should encourage the youngsters to join this battle, not the opposite way”. I’m years older than you Kean and I do en‘courage’ you. I’ll walk with you as Haris has walked me to cross the Rubicon.

And you Kean have in turn encouraged me with your support. I like your idea of designing a T-Shirt like Bersih’s. You say: “It will be damn cool to wear them every day and to tell others that we, the MSM boycotter exist and fully support this campaign!!” I say: Koolness … so what colours would you pick?

When a door closes, a window opens.

This year has been something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue for me. I’m swapping the old lamp (negative people) for new, i.e. those who understand why we must pursue this course. I’ve got feedback that some people are indeed taking up the Boycott and Vijay joked that if he could read Tamil, he’d have boycotted Samy Vellu’s newspapers too.

Birdseye has teased I’m Helen of Penang. Urm, not quite lah. My birth cert states I was born in KL, my IC has a Selangor address and I’m a registered voter in PJ Utara. No prizes for guessing who I WON’T be casting my ballot for.

So you see Kean, our big bro Birdseye though possessing 55 years of wisdom is not infallibly correct. The young still have something to teach the not-that-olds.

Penang has an aged parochial mind. It’s the mentality that decrees while you can vote Opposition for Parliament you should retain the incumbents for state seats. The Penangite, it seems, cares a darn sight more about things his assemblyman might deliver, such as street lamps, tarred roads, RM1 million sculptures along these roads and neon-lit coconut trees erected at roundabouts.

This is a mindset that hedges its bets. I’m a risk taker, so emphatically NOT! “Helen of [cautious, conservative, complacent, complaisant, complaint and complicit Chinese] Penang” and I’m glad Kean is one who dares to dream too as he says he’ll lend me a hand.

When a bunch of guys share a common interest, say in soccer, they get together, form a team, organise a game and play ball. I consider Kean as part of the First 11 and we’ll take to the field.

I also consider the average Penangite having little common ground with me and this is the “something blue” of my new year but I’ll just leave them cocooned in their Safe Old World while we seek our brave new one.

Yet I do say their ‘safe’ haven island is an illusionary bubble because they are pretending not to see the 800lb gorilla in the room. That’s why I feel we’re in a guerrilla war because the odds are so stacked against us. The BN scale is assuredly very imbalanced, so much so that we, the people, have reached tipping point.

BN warlocks and their MSM whining familiars must be tipped out.

Way to go, Helen. I’m with you!

We’re on unchartered seas searching for a brave new world. And I love it that we have on board the young and the brave like Kean.

We’ll make it, my friend, to that ‘distant shore’ where a new world awaits those willing to leave safe havens.

A bird is surfing around the trees
A bee is humming taking nectar from the flowers of the trees.
Surfing and humming happily around the tree!

Plunge the bird onto the bee!
The bird got the bee and she is pleased!

A dark shadow fall onto tree
pop onto the bird, a eagle take the bird!

The three would have been laughing at what they sighted!
Should the flower be blamed or be praised?
As she is the one catching the sight of the bee
so fall the bird without catching the sight of the pop!

Who should be laughing and pleased?
It is just something for the minds to please!

    I am brave!
    So something to braised?
I have limited resources so I need to see where to place!
Take more time to explore and expose the twisted part of the Government
so accountability, transparency and credibility people will be concerning more!
    TEAM-UP THE BLOG.
So every blog will be the Notice Board to whom all will be concerned MOST!!

Especially when they are Common Abnormality which the Government is trying to shy away!!
    Such as,
Where have all the Oil Income GONE?
    http://whatalulu.blogspot.com/2008/01/lulu-always-wondered-about-our-oil.html
Where are the oil production and prices that go along?

Providing sufficient data/figures for Public monitoring is the duty of a responsible Government!
    Where has these gone?

Putting Principle and Direction to People is putting compass to People before asking them to “sail” into this “wonderful”, “fascinating”, “unbelievable”, bolehland!

Something on EPF could be fun!!
    Direction for BRAVE!!

In the name of TPP, should Najis or/and AG be asked to confirm the reports?
(Equally to testify what Najis said!)

And, where have all the Oil Income gone?
Where are those figures and prices for the export?

A Miniature of the Society comparable to Politics as Large!
    ———————————-

A Housing project with Townhouse and Condo
in the name of Condominium project promised with club and Management Corporation and a Town Park to come!
Naturally under HDA, STA, TCPA, NLC and others in force!!
with Land Offices, City Council, State Planning, State Land and others providing approvals,
involving Officers, Professionals, Politician (councilors) and ordinary People taking a part.

With the manipulations of Laws and Regulations with abuses to the approval as well as transparency and accountability and the high-handed monitoring authorities,
the incoming are wildly spent, common properties and facilities into private hands, paying for services not maintained!

An income of more than 1.5 millions with only lifts, cleansing and security to maintain,
the accounts many had queried but unanswerable!
The Club with millions of income are in private hand!
Same as oil income going nowhere!

Only a few need to represent
so they rule the project as they were kings!

Are they similar to what happened in the Politics!

The Project has involved Lawyers and Courts!
    Why it cannot be worked?
The income and expenses have much space to keep voices in control!!

How come the basis Mandamus to compel parties to follow approval can be withdrawn?
How come a Judge compel no party to provide Development order to judge
and to pay maintenance Charge when facilities and MC had nowhere to be found?
    http://www.hba.org.my/laws/CourtCases/1996/emko_properties.htm

If Basic thing is a society many skip to correct,
can a country with many many resources and unaccountable be redressed?

    WHERE SHOULD BRAVE BE PUT?
Only when everyone aware or care?
or something basic to Rights,Laws and Ethics???

    Fundamentals are never NEW!
    NEW without Basis = LOST!!

inadvertently read an article by VK Chin which was posted by RPK in his blog. I really really puke after reading it. MR STAR, go fly kite with your stupid spins.
thanks a lot and you have really make me hate your paper. By the way, I have already stop buying your stupid paper after being an ardent supporter for the last 25 years ( at least). Thanks at least i can save RM50 a month and have a good meal.

  7. Kean Says:

    Helen,

Thank you so much for your support. Same goes to Farida too. Every steps we take now will eventually spark a larger fire in the future. Whether we win or lose, it doesn’t matter. The process of starting this fire is always more spectacular and meaningful compare to its end result. This is the stage where we learn the meaning of life, teamwork, tolerance, and unity.

If we Malaysian wouldn’t even bother to give a hand to support Hartal campaign, how can we form a unite Bangsa Malaysia. I had started my 1st step and I hope more younger generation will have their courage to start theirs too. I have been reading lots of blogs recently and found out our younger generation know what is going on around them. They just need something to kick start their 1st step. Let us be the one to move them out of their ’silent mode’.

Actually, I not that strong :p . Still trying hard to gather more courage to join the walk. I hope I can make it for the upcoming Bersih walk. It is hard to focus as I have some plans ahead for my career. Once my financial status is secure, I will start kicking hard.

Helen, how is your signature campaign? I hope it is going well. As for the T-Shirt color, I’m not sure about it. Bersih is yellow, Hindraf is orange, BN is blue -.- and UMNO is RED! I think we need a brainstorm discussion with all the PP reader, together we shall chose a color and a design that will strike hard into the public heart.

They have a Facebook community numbering 475 at last count in December.

  9. Sharing Says:

Thanks Shar101 to bring the attention to People’s Rights!!

A country is about People and Government
    It’s about Rights and Obligations
If People has no Rights, Government can go WILD!
If Government failed with their obligations, they should go without Rights on Taxes,
If City Council failed with theirs, they should go without assessment.
Same for Land Office without quit rent.

If Government want to have the Rights to Rule, they must fulfilled their obligations to perform – Accountability, transparency and respect of Rights to ALL.
The starting point is a Fair elections for ALL!

    THESE ARE FUNDAMENTAL
THERE ARE FUNDAMENTAL TO BE BRAVE AND FOR ALL!!

THE FUNDAMENTAL POLITICAL SENSE OF ALL!!
THE RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS FOR A FAIR MSM WILL BE THERE WITHOUT MUCH RECOURSE!!

Working against MSM to Human Rights a more winding way to go when GE can be any time to go!!
Helen & Kean, your coalition will benefit more if you see a better direction to go and your target of MSM will eventually be there!!

To compete with MSM can be done by increasing the Cyber population!
This is even more important to Rural Areas, especially starting with the Youth.

Bangladeshi Grameen Bank has successful story to have PC terminals in Rural
    http://www.grameen-info.org/Media/mediadetail6.html
not only on informations but also banking and interacting with many parties, including complaints.
You can help the recycle of used PC and many many more employments to come.
Get Sponsors from advertisers as their Advertisement can go more via their own websites!
Build to compete or phase-out others!
Only if they have internet connection!!
