Tearing up Rashid’s photo : PM mulls action?
February 2, 2008
That’s the title of a report in Malaysiakini, minus the question mark.
Yes, I tore Rashid’s photo. Here’s the evidence, courtesy of Malaysiakini.
Rashid has been tearing up our constituencies over the years without giving any thought to the impact to the ‘equality of each vote’ principle.
4,000++ voters in Putrajaya choose an MP whilst 70,000++ choose another in PJ Selatan?
Pak Lah, whilst you’re mulling over what action to take over this dastardly act, you might as well give some thought about what to do about this photo.

Your action fails to constitute a “blatant lie” or act. It is not sufficient enough to induce in Prime Minister Badawi, acute anger to the extent he comes out spewing his anger. So sadly, if you were hoping for it, ISA is not on this time around. Maybe a lot of noise and echos.

After tearing the Rashid pictures, they should have taken the next step – take them out of the building and burn them and reduced them to ashes. This man should also be “symbolically annihilated by burning” for crimes against a fair and clean election.
He has committed gross acts of violations in gerrymandering in between almost all the GE since 1969 and his latest act is in removing 1/2 Million supposedly “dead” voters and you would not be surprised that in the coming GE Election, many eligible voters would complain in marginal opposition constituencies that their names are “missing” – classified as dead & gone – once again to give the BN the unfair advantage and perpetual stay in Power
What BERSIH, The People’s Parliament and all related blogs should from now onwards provide the URL link to enable all online readers to check and check for their friends to see that their names are still in the electoral roll
opserver,
That link is already on this blog

My gosh, the sleepy ones can be awake at times.
Imagine suing for being rude or being disrespectful.
Imagine what would happen if someone used photocopies of that “gentleman” during an emergency or for the lack of loo paper.
One of the sleepy one’s minister did suggest once that he should ask his wife to stop buying toilet paper and use The People’s Paper instead. Did anyone one hear the sleepy one roar “Rude” or “Disrespectful”
Love to have him or his EC chief sue. He He…..
February 2, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Haris,
Is it unlawful to tear up the photo of the PM just like what you all did to the EC Chairman?
February 2, 2008 at 10:25 pm
Screw the PM. If we follow his dos and donts, we’ll definitely be doomed!
February 2, 2008 at 10:30 pm
dont you blink your eyes. some smart alec will conjure some charges and viola, you fellas will be found guilty in a kangaroo court. if not, why did they compromise the judiciary but to serve their interest.
by the way, the torn papers are just right for use to wrap up soiled diapers. goes well with the ra-shit face.

Step One: tear his picture to bits.
Step Two: Tar him with indelible ink
Step Three: Physically tear him apart.

Abdullah’s cry: There was one Napoleon, One Washington, One Me.
Our fella is desperate already. And he doesn’t even understand the laws even though he’s ISM.
February 3, 2008 at 12:26 am
You mean you can get sent to jail for tearing up some nutter picture???
February 3, 2008 at 12:38 am
Haris,
You might want to elaborate on the ‘maximum’ 20% variation for parliamentary constituencies as contained in the Reid Commission report which essentially protects the fair value of each vote.
While AAB mulls over the action to sue, let’s hope he’s also pondering on the various photos of himself ‘going noddy’ at official functions as well. Not a pretty sight for anyone else to watch. And we ain’t suing.
As VT said, “It’s not worthwhile suing for defamation”. But voting AAB out certainly is.

Haris,
congratulations on the launch of the CSI-Parliament. To hell with the PM and all stuff that he’s got to mull over! I’m mulling over what or who’s keeping my beloved PM up during the nights causing him to be tired & dozing off during the days.
I’m not a lawyer but is there such a law that allows legal action to be taken against people who tear up photos of others. If there is, then maybe after the ISA, we should next repeal this ridiculous law.
We should also update CIA to get their world fact book updated on the list of political pressure groups in Malaysia. You’d be amazed to see who’s already in the list. You can access it at: https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/my.html
Cheers
Doc,
Even if there was such a law, I’m not about to educate some bozos out there by narrating the chapter and verse here. I might as well draw up the charge sheet.
Buy me a drink next we meet and I will tell you.

The pictures of all these guys as well as that of the Prime minister himself has over the century been used in the markets and provision shops to wrap all kinds of stuff. From all kinds of food as well as to wipe away shit, vomit and whatsoever everywhere. Its been used to pick up dog poo and wrap pork. Its been used to cover dead bodies after a roadside accident. And its been used to wipe blood when no other cleaning apparatus is immediately available.
I guess this stupid man who lets off his mouth without thinking is soon going to charge each and every one of us for the biadab way we treat his name and pictures that get printed on newsprint!!
February 3, 2008 at 1:02 pm
Haris, how I wished I was there helping you brave souls tear the picture of this monster. In fact, i wouldnt even tear his picture, I would spit on it. I would spit on the purveyor of Umno’s filth. This man has no shame, no principles, no class. He is a banality of shame.
nstman,
If we’re doing a repeat performance, I’ll let you in on it.

They make a big hoo-ha of the inedible ink, as if they have subscribed to our demands. In reality, we need a complete overhaul of the EC.
A sequence to the Tearing of Rashid photo would be ideal to show that not only Bersih members are against Rashid but other ordinary citizens as well.
However, we need a certain minimum numbers, say 500 people to make it work. We can choose a public space, and this can be done within a hour and we disperse. And ya, we can get another group to bring brooms to clean up the bits and pieces of Rashid.
Now, that Bersih is thinking of throwing the “trump” card, if you understand literally what I mean, we can do this concurrently, or a day after the trump card is shown.

On the issue of Disproportional Representation, this does in fact happen in the UK. The 2 major parties – Conservatives and Labour have not been inclined to do anything about it as they have a sufficiently large following. However the Lib Dems have been going on about Proportional Representation for some time. I’m sure there is a lot of lit on the issue – I believe that is how the EU Parliamentarians are elected.
If memory serves right (20 years ago!), the voters of a fairly large constituency vote for several candidates (from a larger pool as well). So you could get 3 MPs from different parties serving one constituency. This is fairer compared to first past the post with just a handful of votes. It means your vote really does count!
The constituencies are quite evenly split in terms of numbers.
I believe a number of European countries practice proportional representation.
In the Malaysian context it may work much better, if we are aiming for Bangsa Malaysia as opposed to the current system, where many still vote for their race.

haris, thanks for standing up to your principals. not many will do this without fear of reprisals. our country need more like minded and sincere ppl like you. the bigger the voice, the louder the action.
once again thank you very much and keep the faith.

I suppose it was ok to abuse the majority in Parliament to force us to accept Rashid for the coming General Elections.
It was ok to continue to have a MB who showed the obscene sign in public.
It was ok to have another MB, as guest of PPP, telling its President “to leave BN now, why wait?”.
It was ok to have a MB who was caught with millions of cash in Australia as hand luggage, as party information chief, claiming he could not understand English.
It was ok to have his own Youth leaders telling off senior coalition leaders.
I am still unsure if it was ok for the PM to put his hand on the bare shoulder of someone’s girlfriend.
February 4, 2008 at 12:38 pm
Haris,
Do a repeat performance. Let us tell them all that we can tear anyone’s picture. It is as symbolic as the Salt March. Badawi, Jean, Mahathir, Samy, Ong Ka Dick, Chan Kong Chai, Toyo, Deros, included. I’ll sponsor the pix.
We have to send the right message!

Dear Haris,
You know, Rashid has a poker face of a politician so you know why he’s so ‘articulate’ in his action as EC chairman. Professionally, he is on the backs and calls of the BN. I think it all started during Dr M’s premiership. In order to keep the BN especially Umno in perpetual power.
Personally, Rashid is OK although his integrity is questionable because he enslaves himself to “Saya yang menurut perintah”.
Once we (me and my friends again) joked (to his face) that many opposition leaders would love to back stab him with a knife given the chance, for gerry meandering the electoral rolls and borders.
He said without batting an eye that it was part of the professional hazards. From our numerous talks with him, I concluded that he too like fair play but the PM/Umno/BN hands are too heavy on his shoulder. Or on any person who sits on the EC chair. OK, so he’s a coward or rather, ‘Your obedient servant’?.
We laughingly said he made a good ‘pin-up’ man – for dart practise.
p/s Maybe, you’d like to do just that instead of tearing his picture. Might help bring down your blood pressure.
