Get an MP (1)
February 15, 2008
5,035 of you joined me in petitioning for the establishment of a Royal Commission of Inquiry to look into the Lingam video saga.
That Commission has been sitting since 14th January. You’ve all been reading about those proceedings in the papers.
I’ve been involved there holding watching brief for NGOs. That’s why I have not written about those proceedings on this blog. I can’t. That will have to wait for another day.
Anyway, this is not about the Commission.
It’s about what we can do when we group ourselves together.
Most of those 5,035 names came in by e-mail.
3,528 e-mails, to be exact.
A small group helping me in this effort are working to identify those from amongst the 3,528 who e-mailed me to sign the petition who might be registered in any of the 26 constituencies listed below.
1. Ampang 2. Bandar Tun Razak 3. Batu
4. B. Bintang 5. Cheras 6. Gombak
7. Kapar 8. Kelana Jaya 9. Kepong
10. Klang 11. Kota Raja 12. Lembah Pantai
13. Pandan 14. PJ Selatan 15. PJ Utara
16. Puchong 17. Rembau 18. Segambut
19. Selayang 20. Seputeh 21. Serdang
22. Setiawangsa 23. Shah Alam 24. Subang
25. Titiwangsa 26. Wangsa Maju
Starting today, e-mails will be sent out everyday to those identified, inviting them to join their fellow constituents in an effort to get a new non-BN MP for their constituency or, in the case of B. Bintang, Cheras, Kepong and Seputeh, to help in defending these seats presently held by the opposition.
You will note that aside from Rembau, the other constituencies are either in the Klang Valley or within the state of Selangor. I apologise to those who are outside of these two areas for the restricted scope of this effort. It is just that I simply would not be able to cope.
Why has Rembau been included?
It’s rumoured that KJ will stand in Rembau. And fellow blogger Badrul Hisham has vowed to take on KJ wherever he stands. Black in Korea has this story. Bloggers at a meeting last night agreed to lend Badrul all assistance. Rocky’s written about this.
Please understand that my role is essentially that of bringing together like minds who will be voting in the same constituency. How effective this might be will depend on whether enough numbers respond to this effort and if some from amongst you are willing to take up a leadership role and to give time to this effort. If you think this not possible, please see the initiative of the ‘PJ Utara Get an MP’ group.
If you’re registered to vote in one of the 26 constituencies listed above, are tired of the crap that BN has dished out to us all these years, want a change and are prepared to do some work to achieve this, please send in an e-mail to thepeoplesparliament@gmail.com

The RIGHT way to go Haris!!…trigger initiatives in all the constituencies,…like the one Petaling Jaya Utara.
We wish thay more people will quit watching American Idol, Football or whatever, and come out and WORK towards making that CHANGE!
Remember:
Nothing will Change,
Until YOU make that change!…
so get on to your computer and e-mail Peoples Parliament!
DIFFERENT IS NOT ALWAYS BETTER,
BUT BETTER IS ALWAYS DIFFERENT!…
…so if you want something Better, you have to try something Different!
VOTE OPPOSITION!
Cikgu,
The work that you guys in PJ Utara are doing has inspired me to try with these other constituencies

Harris,
If you can coalition with some hard-working Blogger like you to handle different constituency with similar or agreed format, I believe this modulus can be extended to more or all constituencies.
You can just put a link to your Webpage, so that yours remains as a center for easy references.
Sharing,
Already working with some very hard-working people on this

Anyone able to get a copy of the Voter DB?
Once we have the DB, we can start the process of mailing list, divided the voter into group and assign someone to talk to them personally.
I know we can go to the SPR website to check where we should vote. If I can have a copy of the list with address detail, we can do a lot of PR work from there.

Dear Harris,
Count me in for Subang. Is it confirmed that Sivarasa will be standing in this constituency?
Willing to help in any way.

My constituency is Bukit Katil. I have not heard any buzz about who will oppose BN here. I wonder whether my vote will even make a difference. Nevertheless, I shall cast it as a matter of principle.
Meanwhile, is there anything I can do to help?
SV,
Speak to friends and relatives about the need for change. Get the alternative news to those who do not have access

On No.17 Rembau where it is rumoured KJ will contest, here’s what the SiL said on PAS rule in Kelantan as reported in NST (Feb 14):
“Enough is enough. Eighteen years of empty promises, 18 years without change, 18 years without investments, 18 years of stealing timber, 18 years of bribery, 18 years of swindling. That is what Pas has done and it is enough,” Khairy stressed.
Say you wrote a Letter to the NST editor: “Enough is enough. Fifty years of empty promises, 50 years without change, 50 years of regressing, 50 years of stealing natural resources, 50 years of bribery, 50 years of swindling. That is what BN has done and it is enough.”
Do you think the paper will publish your letter?
Do newspapers publish critical letters?
Some people I know think theSun is a notch above the rest of the English dailies. I used to think so too when I subscribed to it at cost 60 sen (such a price meant years ago) & to a spunky Malay tabloid ‘Watan’, now defunct, I believe.
The thread below is HartalMSM’s attempt to engage the setting Sun. http://harismibrahim.wordpress.com/2008/02/15/letter-to-thesun-from-the-hartalmsm-committee/
To those still supporting theSun, go ahead and test them. Send a critical, truthful letter to theSun. And lemme know the outcome.
