Read RPK’ s ‘Two’s company, three’s a crowd’  .

Amongst others, this is what RPK said :

‘We had hoped that the opposition parties would not launch their own individual election manifestos but instead adopt the Peoples’ Declaration or Deklarasi Rakyat as their manifesto. At least this would demonstrate to the voters that the opposition is united. But, alas, this is not going to be so… Equally important is there must not be any three-corner fights. The last two elections saw quite a few three-corner fights in spite of the existence of an opposition coalition called Barisan Alternatif and the electoral pact that was agreed upon. Threesomes are great when it comes to sex but in an election it will be disastrous…This time around we must punish those parties that perpetuate three-corner fights. If your voting constituency is subjected to a three-corner fight then we must vote for the Barisan Nasional candidate. Let both the opposition candidates lose their deposits. It must be a straight fight or nothing at all. The people must send this very strong message to the opposition parties…This is the era of Peoples’ Power. The people must decide, not the political parties. We accept the opposition, but on our terms, not theirs. If they turn their backs on us then we must turn our backs on them as well’.

To the leadership of DAP, PAS, PKR, PSM, MDP and PASOK, the rakyat have reached out to you.

You must in turn heed our call.

We have much to offer you in this forthcoming elections. Work with us.

You have already endorsed The People’s Declaration. Use this now as the common manifesto. We do not need 6 different manifestos floating around to confuse the rakyat.

And no 3-corner contests. Let the best candidate from Barisan Rakyat take on what BN will send forth. Please harken to this.

Do this and we are all walking together with you as the People’s Front.

Will be hard-pressed to make myself vote for the evil regime that is BN-UMNO ever again no matter what the circumstances or situation.
Come Sunday will see whether sense will prevail over egos, arrogance and greed.
If there’s any 3 cornered fight in Sarawak – that’s it I will not waste my time to vote – actually got a cheap air asia ticket to KL booked very long ago before election was announced and was going to forgo or pay extra to change so that after vote then go – better go watch Malaysian Open at Kota Permai instead now if these morons insists on committing hara-kiri and let BN-UMNO win by default. My sympathy will also not be with them if they lose their deposits as advocated by RPK – hope the Ah Longs also get them then – serve them right.
Maybe it’s about time to have a true new party for all Malaysians to finally put things right.

  4. Paul Warren Says:

Sadly selfish interests will not permit our opposition parties to adopt for itself a manifesto such as the Rakyat’s Manifesto, as the leaders of these parties might see their own hold on their parties vanish.

WE may have to appeal to the ordinary members of each of these parties to encourage or require that their own parites adopt the Rakyat’s manifesto instead of coming out with their own.

The impact of adopting a Peoples’s Manifesto or the People’s Declaration and the fact that it came from the people or civil society movement which is not connected to any political party will have far greater appeal adn mileage. But will the opposition political party leaders see it?

  5. Lynn Cheang Says:

    Dear Haris

I love RPK’s article, esp his analysis of the 5.5 million registered voters who are indifferent or fence sitters. I have not registered to sign in to his blog so I will take liberty to comment here instead. I reside in Sarawak and I have personally written 3 letters to Malaysiakini to appeal to the national and state leaders of DAP/PKR not to court 3-cornered fights warning that my family and friends will vote BN if indeed there is a 3-cornered fight in my constituency. Yet today, 4 days to Nomination Day, in the local Borneo Post, I see the egoistic pictures of both DAP and PKR state leaders, esp Dominic Ng, insisting on standing their grounds. I am really fed up with the Oppostion parties. I agree heartily with RPK not to vote either of them to cause them to lose their deposits and learn to appreciate and respect the People’s Power but I am not willing to vote BN, (never have and never will) so I am thinking of joining the 5.5 million people that RPK referred to and just stay home.

  6. Birdseye Says:

“If your voting constituency is subjected to a three-corner fight then we must vote for the Barisan Nasional candidate.”

This RPK idea is damn silly. He says the people must decide. So let them decide. And help them to decide. Not just throw a tantrum and give it to the BN just like that.

One-on-one fights is the norm rather than the exception in this election. Everyone recognises this is a sound strategy. According to PKR/DAP, there are only a few seats where the DAP/PKR candidate is being unreasonable. In such areas, popular blogs like RPK and PP should voice out their endorsements explaining why the PKR or DAP or PAS candidate should be the people’s choice.

Vote wisely or the corrupt judges, politicians and lawyers will get off scot free.

    Birdseye,

I read RPK’s call as a warning to the opposition parties not to approach this elections with only party interests in mind.

Please help by alerting of 3-corner fights so that analyses of candidates may be put up on this blog. Better yet, do the analysis and send it in for posting

Is PKR the commander of People’s Declaration & Voice?
Sound like PKR is talking in the Tone of People?

“If your voting constituency is subjected to a three-corner fight then we must vote for the Barisan Nasional candidate. Let both the opposition candidates lose their deposits. It must be a straight fight or nothing at all.”

So PKR can lead VoterS to vote BN when 3-corner flight occurred??
Any candidate been offered to People to select who should fight BN?
    Or PKR to decide?

If a straight BA vs BN fight is important,
how about a Clean and Fair GE?

IF PEOPLE HAVE PRIORITY IN MIND, a CLEAN & FAIR EC and GE is the fundamental to start. Or else, all will fall apart!!
As this is no way to achieve fight 2/3 off BN or at least 1/2 or taken over 2/3 when Electoral Roll are manipulated along others!!

If Bersih lead by PKR cannot even fight an EC Chief but hi-jacking People’s Declaration, PKR is hi-jacking the situation!

IF GE CANNOT START WITH A FAIR AND CLEAN ELECTION, ANY POLITICIAN CALLING THE GE IS JUST A JOKE!!
The dignity of People have been manipulated!!

BOYCOTT OR SPOIL THE VOTE, THE ONLY DIGNITY WHICH COULD BE REMAINED AFTER POLITICIANS PROVOKING VOTERS TO ACCEPT AN UNFAIR GE!!

PP, please read carefully what are in this Declaration of PKR!!

  9. fireduck Says:

    Sharing,

Were you refering to PKR or RPK? A little confused, reading your piece. PKR = the party, RPK = Pete.

Whatever it is, if the ‘potential’ candidates cannot get past their personal interests then its not worth having them as candidates, let alone being our future reps. They will turn out to be no different from the umno/bn buggers.

So, if Dominic Ng etc., continues to be self-centred in this Rakyat’s fight, I say we look for other candidates and not field them. Then they can stand as independents and lose their deposits. We don’t need them. This is the Voice of the People. Listen to them.

“DAP + PAS + PKR + PSM + MDP + PASOK + …. = BARISAN RAKYAT”…..By Saturday, 16th February, PKR, DAP, PAS, PSM, MDP and PASOK had confirmed their endorsement of The People’s Declaration. What a joke!!

Nevertheless, the existing problems should be accounted on EC not to provide a Clean and Fair environment to Vote!
Or Parties, Candidates and Voters should have enough TIME and MEDIA to be presented with all necessary information for a Fair GE besides a clean electoral roll with no postal vote!

So, once again, ACT on EC and not be FOOLED again despites of having been fooled by EC in previous GE!!

NO FAIR EC, TAKE EC & EC CHIEF TO COURT!!
WHEN NO FAIR EC IS READY, BOYCOTT THE GE!!

I will do as much digging as possible.

I shall be most grateful if PP regulars who have background information (experience, achievements, principles)on the Opposition candidates involved in 3-corner fights plus any insight into the constituency concerned (demographics, racial mix, last voting pattern, etc) will send such valuable information to the following email address: three_corners08@yahoo.com.

I will analyse and summarise the information and send it to you.

  16. AhBeng Says:

In fact, Dominque Ng & PKR is only asking for one seat – stampin out of the 7 chinese predominated seats in sarawak. If DAP shows the gesture & willingness in denying the 2/3 majority of BN, they should work along with PKR but not denying any contesting chance of PKR in the chinese area

  17. fenway Says:

    AhBeng,

It doesn’t matter 1 seat or 10 seats. In Stampin, Marudi, Assek, etc. There are 31 seats there. And for God’s sake…these are PARLIAMENTARY seats. Not state elections. What the hell are they fighting for?

What happens to the common objection of signing This People’s Declaration for a common cause?? If there is any to fight on for Sarawak content there…it must be a common goal to ensure the Federal Government does not short changed whatever bloody promises they had been making to the State during the pre-election campaigns.

I am hearing some of these parliamentary seats in the rural areas are going to be freely given to BN….no contest.

To Sharing: you are beginning to sound like a broken record….please. I am a realist, not an idealist like you. The reality is here now: the election is ON. Forget about preaching on EC issue.

  18. Birdseye Says:

    fenway,

Why stay at home or spoil your vote? Would it not be better to go against the party you deem unreasonable by voting the party tou feel should rightfully be contesting that seat?

Your lone vote could well tip the scale for the opposition candidate and deny BN the two-third majority.

    Sharing,

It’s RPK, not RKP. That’s ok. We know who you are referring to.

What are you talking about when you say:
“The First to be finger-pointed on Parties Fights and 3-corners flights should go to the flip-flop and duty-unjustified EC!!

If there is no Kuasa Rakyat, then the Rakyat might as well stay home.

Meanwhile, the People’s Declaration is the key to moving forward towards the GE. There will be three upcoming events for this purpose. Read M-T, Rocky’s and TPP, of course.

He will be making way for his son Sulaiman Abdul Rahman to contest the seat.
    ===============================================
I can smell the direction of Sarawak’s next state election already….

  22. Lynn Cheang Says:

    Dear Harris

Good news from Sarawak! Just read Malaysiakini’s article Sarawak : Abdul Taib makes way for son that DAP and PKR had reached an agreement to give the Chinese-majority seat of Stampin in Kuching to PKR. That means there will be straight fights all the way and in this case, me, my family and friends and I bet many many more Sarawakians will definitely be out to vote for the opposition and in my case, it is in the parliamentary seat of Stampin and I will definitely vote for PKR.

It seems that RPK’s influential article on Two’s Company…. and the various responses from Sarawak has finally knocked some sense into the state leaders of DAP and PKR. Honestly, it does not matter to us where the candidate is from DAP or PKR; the fact that the candidate is courageous enough to stand as an opposition candidate to work towards denying BN a 2/3 majority the important factor. To all you guys in DAP & PKR Sarawak, I say, great teamwork guys, way to go!!!

The Reality of GE is based on Constitution for a Independent & Fair Election.
Is going along this line an idealist?
Or, because a crippled and flip-flop EC is existing so taking it as Reality with knowing it that it had been and will be manipulated?
This is much similar to accept the 3-man panel and then a 5-man panel as “RCI” when both not meeting any reasonable standard of RCI?

Can you expect any fair Investigation when the 3 or 5-man panel are BIAS?
    ——————-

    birdseye,

Only a CLEAN & FAIR operation of EC can lead to a Fair GE and CAUSING the existing problems with 3-corner fights with unknown or unfamiliar Candidates.
To solve the problem, the Cause may be acted FIRST!
    ———————

    shar101,

Bersih has started promoting a Clean & Fair Election to promoting GE (against BN). Clean & Fair Election is a condition for the latter.

Therefore, if Clean & Fair Election is not ready but still promoting to go ahead, I have to say it is some kind of mislead!

By Law, the remedy is to take EC and EC Chief to Court. This could very well be turned down by court, then, it is the fault of the Court and not Bersih, IF BERSIH takes them to court!!

The GE has to be conducted within 60days after the Parliament dissolved, therefore, when challenge them in court, it must be sorted within this period to allow GE to go. Or, they have to sort the matter latest within 5 years of ABB’s first term up to 2009!
Therefore, more time for preparation of GE!

Challenging after GE, UNMO has no pressure to sort out the matter and this cannot stopped any elected to come to force and it will be another Lingam Case- a JOKE!!

  25. ivansim Says:

    Finally good sense prevail.
I will have to stay back and vote then and waste my Air Asia ticket even though the talk is that the opposition candidate will not be able to knock off the BN incumbent due to the disproportionate number of rural voters (another great job by the EC) who are easilly misled and misinformed by the msm as well as rumours of their votes being readily for sale and easily bought.
However will just get great satisfaction to just cast a vote against this bugger who apparantly is also one of the key players in the Port Klang FTZ billion ringgit swindle and going to get away with it. Just to think about our hard earned and saved EPF money being milked away in one of this and many other schemes really makes one’s blood boil and most times when taking a flight out will see his private jet parked at the airport whenever he’s in town just rubs it in.
By the way when the circus was in town to launch the stupid Score or something did anyone managed to snap any pics of all the jets parked at Bintulu airport? Heard the tarmac was full with a few big and small and off course the largest was our own Malaysia Boleh 1 bought using you know whose money again.

  26. SV Singam Says:

    Sharing,

I think it is important for you to try to understand what others are saying and doing. And show by what you write that you do understand.

You are right, the EC has to be cleaned up first. But if we only focus on that and nothing else and then do not succeed in our efforts, what can we do? Should we go to the elections unprepared? Or should we boycott the elections? Let us take a positive approach, lah!

We have to fight this battle on many fronts. And that is what is already happening.

The Bersih group is, even now, working to clean up the electoral list before the elections, is studying whether it is necessary and possible to force a postponement of the elections, and will continue, after the elections, to try and disqualify candidates who cheated. If you think you can do a better job than them, then go volunteer. Just stop beating up on them.

Meanwhile, possibly due to the pressure of People Power, the political parties are already resolving 3-corner fights. Wonder of wonders, PAS is fielding a non-Muslim candidate. All seats are being contested so BN will get nothing by default. Can you ask for more?

Well, there is more. Today the Rakyat will again demonstrate People Power when they cover the entire nation with a Yellow Wave. At 3 pm, they will show their solidarity with the Bersih Rally in Kuala Terengganu.

But that’s not all. People Power has been awoken. More will be coming along. Just keep a lookout.

And stop going on and on about cleaning up the EC. The points you raise here will not help the people who are doing the REAL WORK. If you want to make a difference, then go join them and contribute your effort.

I am looking forward to seeing a different theme in future postings from you.

    Hidup Barisan Rakyat.

  27. Birdseye Says:

    Sharing,

You know, the justice system is so tainted there is virtually no hope of success for any suit against the EC. Just fight the BN and deny them a two-thirds majority plus more.

You can see over the past few weeks the BN has promised to dish out a few hundred millions of ringgit to win the hearts and minds of Chinese and Indian voters because they really feel threatened this time.

Imagine what would happen if they actually have to contend with a much stronger opposition after the elections. They will have to on their toes every single day. Heck, we could begin to see jail time for crooks who bribe judges and crooked judges to be on the other side of the vertical bars. What a sight that will be.

Say what you wish to say. We can agree to disagee.

  28. Sharing Says:

    SV Singam,

I have been following the political waves for years so I am not just talking for the sake of this GE!
Therefore, I am aware that some new Candidates have been making waves 2-3 years ago to get their VOICE – Charles Santiago, or, NOISE – E.L., heard.

After the Rallies, I had raised the points of telling People What TO LOOK then WHO TO LOOK!
For the GE, a Central Principle and Direction to lead Parties and People.
Hopefully Bersih or one of two good Parties will start to voice out so they can lead with a confirmed Principle and Direction!
Now, it is great that PP is leading the job!

At least I believe I am not far away from PP!

I cannot stop the situation by myself but I alert People of what should be a healthy situation where a Clean & Fair EC be the priority and fundamental!
You can find a number of Sharing’s posting in Bersih and Chinhua. And, I am sure someone would notice that the last Rallies are to provoked to Vote “any Opposition but not BN” but hidden with the risk or end-up with very emotional risk to take a Tricky GE even if something can be done and not done!
It is important to maintain the image of Bersih to walk its talk to keep this possible Reform a continue action!
The awake of the People is not only for the GE!!

“And stop going on and on about cleaning up the EC. The points you raise here will not help the people who are doing the REAL WORK. If you want to make a difference, then go join them and contribute your effort.”

I believe your statement above is risky if you do not put Cleaning up EC as Priority!!
It may not be done but the importancy must be emphasized!!
    If you read http://www.malaysia-today.net/2008/content/view/3148/84/

“A team of lawyers is being set up to gather evidence of fraud/vote-buying and to file an injunction to stop the 8 March 2008 general election. There is still one more year before an election needs to be called so the election should be postponed until the electoral roll can be cleaned up and the phantom voters flushed out. If not, the opposition can garner 60% of the votes but Barisan Nasional will still form the government, and probably with a two-thirds majority as well.”

So, I am not the only one and in fact it is well understood and in the “Plan”!!
The key points of injunctions should include disqualifying EC Chief to be nominated as Chief for 2008 since he failed to do his job in 2004 and he had failed to do his job to prepare for the coming GE!

WHAT ARE NECESSARY FOR A HEALTHY & FAIR GE AND REFORM REMAINS!

I WILL CONTINUE TO CONTRIBUTE IF MY PAST CONTRIBUTION ARE not denied!!

Thanks your efforts to push things ahead, I hope I had pick-up what you may probably had dropped or missed!!

    Cheers!!

Experiencing crooked lawyers and BIAS judges, I confirmed your notes!
For the case of GE, BN has to prove if the Court is Fair or not
OR for later redress if REFORM can be succeeded!
To prove Bersih or BR knows and takes all possible efforts to address!
To show the Court fails US so we have no more hope!!
To provide more reason BN should NO MORE BE THERE!!
A pressure they have to face in Court and any Flip-Flop of anyone be recorded!!
So any future generation can have official record to refer!! (SO DEFAMATION HAS LESS CHANCE TO BE PROMOTED!)

    GE IS A JOKE?

    Sharing,

As I’ve written earlier, there is an effort by another group to take the EC to task. Due to the legal technicalities and as mentioned in RPK’s posting, the right people (read – lawyers) will handle it.

Meanwhile, look out for ‘posters’ in the blogs which will be in support of this initiative.

Tomorrow, on the 23rd, there will be an event at Bloghouse in which the People’s Voice and Declaration will be publicly endorsed by political party representatives. Thereafter, two other events are in the making.

We, the Barisan Rakyat, are taking the lead to provide cohesiveness within any political party and/or individuals who wish to deny victory for BN.
