Just spoke to RPK and wife.

He’s been directed by the police to be at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex, Jalan Duta tomorrow morning 9.30am where he will be charged under the Sedition Act.

I will be there.

    What a coward Malaysian government….

They “disturb” RPK again. Looks like the “PM in waiting” is really afraid of Independent Media.

Should we allow him to be next Prime Minister?

  2. shar101 Says:

Definitely an overkill strategy from the ‘PM in waiting’ though I’m not certain if we should be attributing this ‘namesake’ to husband or wife.

Time to gear up the blogosphere into overdrive, bro.

  3. aaa Says:

I’m loss of words to describe the AG and IGP . At the same time , both of them seems to be helping the Pakatan Rakyat to gain more mileage in the eyes of the rakyat .

    To Gani and Musa ,

Keep up the good work and don’t stop now to do more damage to Pak Lah and Najib .

    To RPK ,

In any case, power to ya, bro… and all the best for tomorrow!

I’m appearing for both accuse tomorrow so would be inappropriate to render my thoughts here.

  8. M Shuhud Saaid Says:

Screw Najib and his wife, the avaricious and immoral Rosmanajis. More power to RPK and other like-minded bloggers. I am a Malaysian living in London, which prevents me from standing shoulder to shoulder with RPK at the Jalan Duta Court Complex.

Hearing/reading about what was happening to RPK and Syed Akbar, I was reminded of the frustrated outrage we felt when YB Teo Nie Ching told us about the difficulty they were having with presenting the Private Bill on Information Freedom. Many of us feel that same impotent fury whenever we read about the continued shenanigans of the BN.

Clearly, there is only one solution. The Pakatan Rakyat simply has to grab power at the Federal level and end this insane circus. At times like this, one’s morally upright stance on the acceptance of frog MPs is pushed to the limit.

But then, the more such desperate gambits the BN employs, the more legitimacy and immediacy is bestowed upon Anwar’s candidacy.

RPK has the right approach. Let us do what is in our power that we see to be the right thing. And then submit, and allow the Divine Plan to unfurl.

    Justice will prevail.

  12. LC_Teh Says:

My sincere prayers for Raja Petra for his courage & family for their strength in face of the days ahead.

  13. barry Says:

I can imagine…. 1 million people throng the streets of KL, demanding justice and freedom of expression. Demanding justice against the murderers of Altantuya, against the ISA detentions, immediate release.

Haris, please let us know when this will take place.

  14. Paul Warren Says:

Sedition to whom eh? The country? Then send him to jail…Leaders?…if what is alleged is in their professional capacity..also send him to jail…

But if sedition is alleged for “sedition on individuals” (but there is really no such thing as sedition on individuals)…let the individual take civil action….If sedition on political leaders in respect of personal conduct …then once again let the indivdual take him to court on a civil action. (Killing of Altantuya could not have been professional or work related in nature, done for King and country. Before idiots come a calling, I only assume that Altantuya was killed. Satisfied?)

AS for contempt of court….? Well, there was nothing in Raja’s article that could not have been discerned or derived or concluded out of everything that has been said in court, done in court, and reported by MSM prior to this.

So what the f@#$ is the problem here? Can be said in court. Can be reported in MSM and broadcast on air. But Raja writes about it, then it becomes seditious? Why? Because he writes this a few months after it was first reported? And only objective is to cause mischief?

    According to Wikipedia:

Sedition is a term of law which refers to covert conduct, such as speech and organization, that is deemed by the legal authority as tending toward insurrection against the established order. Sedition often includes subversion of a constitution and incitement of discontent (or resistance) to lawful authority. Sedition may include any commotion, though not aimed at direct and open violence against the laws. Seditious words in writing are seditious libel.

Because sedition is typically considered a subversive act, the overt acts that may be prosecutable under sedition laws vary from one legal code to another. Where those legal codes have a traceable history, there is also a record of the change of definition for what constituted sedition at certain points in history. This overview has served to develop a sociological definition of sedition as well, within study of persecution.

But then it requires a certain degree of moronic conduct, behaviour and positioning to see any kind of sedition in Raja’s article.

What I would like to know is, if I were to reproduce that article in my blog, will I also be accused of sedition?

  15. Jim Says:

    Haris

I just did a quick check, and noted that when RPK posted “Let’s send the Altantuya murderers to hell”, it was 25 April 2008, ie RPK is charged in court after 12 days.

In contrast, the relevant ex-Minister who had a report filed against him on 14 April 2008 has not been charged yet, ie no action after 23 days!

It is just unbelievable that they have still not woken up yet.

The more they do this, the more certain they will be out when GE13 comes next.

    Jim

  16. noyawns Says:

Mmmm..me smells the hand of AAB & KJ in this…?
The more Rakyat is outraged over RPK’s case, the weaker is Najib’s position vis–vis AAB??

  17. Dickson Dollah Says:

Thanks Bro. Damn the Kangaroo court! We will walk the talk with RPK and the rest.

  18. AK Says:

    Dear Haris,

Besides contribute to RPK’s legal funding, appreciate you will tell us what we can do as individual of the civilised society to help RPK ?

    AK,

Let me give some thought to your question

  19. Muzcman Says:

What a sad day. I hope justice will prevail.

  20. arianna Says:

    Dear Haris,

    Saw it coming.
RPK did touch raw nerve this time, eh?

With my little legal knowledge, I thought they’ll rope him for contempt, being sensitive and all. But sedition? Whoa! This kind of action only lend credence to what many of us suspect all this while. I’m sure a lot of ’skeletons’ would be exposed during the trial.

Glad he is in good hands. Glad you are one of his counsels. Can I count on you for that ‘expose’?

P.S. Sorry about your laptop. Some thieves broke into my niece and her friend’s rented student house through the roof one night a week ago and carted four laptops and several handphones. Luckily, the girls were unharmed. You take care.

    arianna,

Have to give some thought as to whether I’m of more use to RPK in a legal team or speaking out in civil society.

All the same, thanks for the vote of confidence

  21. joehancl Says:

WE must fight this charge against RPK together. We must NOT allow the govt. to cow the alternative media. It was RPK and bloggers like him who gave us the breathing space to VENT our frustrations on the govt. DAMN the govt.

  22. Avtaran Says:

Let the law take its course. Only good will come out of this. Without sacrifice nothing is gained.

Let us be vigilante in following the progress of this case. If RPK has evidence let him bring it forward.

No need for name calling and bashing, lets leave the bad habits behind. Lets show our MPs’the matured way of handling issues of importance.
