YB Khairy Jamaluddin bin Abu Bakar is the honourable Member for Rembau. In case you’re interested in Cuti-cuti Malaysia, Rembau is where there are many fountains of youth.

BN-Rembau is this Parliament session’s winner of Anugerah BIADAP (Barisan Insan Awasi Drama Ahli Parlimen). Our inaugural award fittingly went to KJ’s father-in-law and in keeping with Ketuanan Menantu tradition, the son-in-law is the next fitting inductee into People’s Parliament hall of fame.

BN-Rembau sparkled like no other debutant MP before him and his impressive star turn makes him a drama king fully deserving of the BIA-DAP or Drama Ahli Parlimen plaudits.

Looking at the Hansard (May 12), it is most interesting to hear BN-Rembau in his own words, favourites which appear to be “Sit down” – directed at many, many of his colleagues in the House, “I have the floor” and “I do not give way”.

Like some kind of Broadway chorus, Deputy Speaker Ronald Kiandee repeatedly echoes BN-Rembau, saying, “He does not give way” / “Dia ada hak tak memberi jalan” in chastising the Opposition MPs who constantly interrupt citing Standing Order 31(b).

BN-Rembau appeared most taken with DAP-Taiping, saying: “Duduk Yang Berhormat Taiping. Tidak faham bahasa ke? Saya kata tidak bagi laluan”, and again, “Yang Berhormat, tak faham bahasa? Sila duduk.”

Deputy Minister in the PM’s Department, Senator T. Murugiah on the other hand, appears most taken with BN-Rembau. The Senator tells Opposition MPs: “Duduklah. Floor dia. Dia tak beri laluan, jangan kacau” and “Dia punya floor,” urging them to allow Rembau to carry on.

If BN-Rembau is Best Actor (Drama), the Best Supporting Actor Oscar goes to BN-Silam who thundered at the hero’s detractors, “Jangan tunjuk berani di sini,” and asking the Deputy Speaker to use Standing Order 44(2) on those who dare interfere with Rembau: “Kalau dia (PKR-Kulim Bandar Baru) tak mahu dengar cakap, suruh keluar.”

If the actors are dramatic, then their speeches truly delighted the Government backbenchers. BN-Rembau drew loud applause for declaiming: “Hanya daging ayam dan daging khinzir yang melepasi kadar 100% tahap sara diri, itu pun tidak cukup bagi satu kerajaan negeri yang telah meletakkan keutamaan nombor satu pentadbirannya kelulusan Projek Khinzir Raksasa atau singkatannya PKR” (… one state government had made it the number one priority of its administration to approve the Projek Khinzir Raksasa, or its acronym, PKR).

BN-Rembau elaborated: “With acronyms, we usually take the initials – Projek Khinzir Raksasa, P-K-R. Apa susah sangat?” His mention of the Gigantic Pig Project really got the House clapping and cheering. Now we know what stirs the BN spirit.

Another episode that caused a commotion occurred when BN-Rembau declared: “Tuan Yang di-Pertua, ini floor saya.” PAS-Kuala Krai rose to his feet. BN-Rembau barked: “Saya boleh buat apa sahaja yang saya suka. Sila duduk. [The House erupts into disorder]

BN-Rembau is clearly adept at citing points of order to make his colleagues stand down, proving if nothing else that he has ascended a steep learning curve.

Rembau also looks like a favoured child of the Speakers. In another sitting, he was allowed to pose a supplementary question on the NEP to the Minister in the PM’s Department Amirsham A. Aziz. A maximum of three questions are permitted from the floor and these are asked on the spot by MPs supposedly chosen at random by the Speaker.

The Minister’s seemingly cued response to BN-Rembau prompted Opposition Parliamentarians to shout: “The answer has been prepared!” (DAP-Ipoh Timor), “the question was leaked!” (PAS-Shah Alam), “planted question” (DAP-Bukit Mertajam), “Siap jawapan sampai dua muka!” (PAS-Pokok Sena), and the notion [two-page readied reply] taken up by DAP-Puchong. Now who says PAS and DAP can’t work together?

DAP-Batu Kawan asked Amirsham the second question. “See whether he can answer the question now,” was heard in the hall, implying that this time the Minister would not have been fed the question beforehand. Speaking off the cuff, the Minister managed only a two-line reply – what a contrast to his long one to Rembau.

BN-Rembau protests too much whereas the Minister in his father-in-law’s Department is only good for reading from prepared texts and when asked to ad-lib proved utterly tongue-tied. Perhaps the two gentlemen should just switch jobs.

hey helen, great minds think alike – i had wanted to post about this rembau MP too yesterday but since the lingam video inquiry findings surfaced yesterday, i gave priority to that first.

i already anticipate the disaster in parliament when the arrogant son in law won rembau! how i wish it was chegubard.

rembau MP is a first timer and look at all the havoc he caused. so fed up with all his antics in parliament. for sure i will blog about him and will link this post of yours.

sigh! as long as BN is in power we will be subject to such disgraceful displays like this. the vile son-in-law is a rookie and should really have some respect for the august house if not for the opposition. but such displays of coarseness and arrogance just point to his character and upbringing.

A first time MP is given so much leeway to take the centre stage in the Parliament; not because he has any substance but because of the influence of the FIL. He is clearly relishing the moments of playing to the gallery now, not knowing that he has turned the parliament into a circus and he is the biggest clown of all. I feel sorry for MPs like Amirruddin who, in spite of being a technocrat who has made his name, has to stoop so low to pander to the wishes of the SIL. Perhaps we can take comfort in the thought that he doesn’t have much time in his hand, for very soon the FIL will become history.

Monkeys have a very short lifespan. So, just wait. They’ll soon drop to the ground dead.

    Helen,
Maybe you can interview Oxford professors what they think of their (in)famous graduate’s behaviour? Oxford style or not?? Time for them to disown him!!
    hahaha..
Maybe it’s also time to start a HALL OF SHAME with all the BIADAP winners ‘winning’ antics?

  6. Keturunan Jebat Says:

The so called minister at prime minister’s department had never had to contest for his position and therefore what do you expect for his oratory skill?

When he was the CEO at Maybank his interviews questions and answers were already prepared in advance. It is known among us who have worked under him in the bank before that he dreads giving speeches.

Had the opportunity of being in the same table with him before and the experience….blah he is a cold fish and the feeling that was received from sitting at the same table is he seems to wish that he is somewhere else but with the people who is celebrating their achievement to help maybank be what it is today (in underwords the underlings which is not in his league).

Yup he is just another brown nosing ex corporate appointed minister who kow tows to the power that be…

He is a disgrace to humanity.

The SIL tried very hard to show that a monkey is always a monkey, and it will never transform itself to become a decent Human being, judging from his actions in DR.More Circus show by the group of monkeys and orang hutans are anticipated.

  9. Rox Says:

Wow. “Sila duduk.” It’s hard not to admire KJ for his taunt when he called the class of 2008 to behave themselves. It has always been the other way round – the Opposition calling him to behave.

“Hear me out and you can have the floor after my say”, should be the rule of Parliament instead of presumably mature MPs interrupting and shouting at each other like a bunch of unruly kindergarten kids visiting DR for the first time. And I mean both sides.

As deterrent to even worse behaviour, a Parliament rule that should be implemented is finding MPs 10,000 ringgit if they punch or kick another MP.

But then again, live transmission from Parliament would be a bore without the anticipation that some sort of entertainment might take place …

    Imagine this.

“Did you see the 10,000 ringgit kick yesterday?”

    “No.”

    “I SAW IT LIVE!”

Yeah, we don’t really know what we want, do we?

  11. KJ Sapporter Says:

We love KJ. He is the best MP. Many parties in Barisan who are suffering from doubts over its legitimacy should learn from Khailee – in one person he has embodied all the great qualities of historys’ most illustrious figures, such great people like Julius Caeser, Napoleon, JFK, Obama. I also would like the schools to start to hang up the picture of Khailee and take down the picture of Hishamuddin. This is because in a survey conducted by a leading pollster, many children complain that Hishamuddin has a scary pseudo psycho face and it would be better if the authorities put instead the picture of his deputy, who can be inspiration on how to plan for the future and take advantage of situations.
