Got shafted on this one, didn’t you, PKR? Now quit larkin’ about and show us what you have!
July 5, 2008
After Bala’s now infamous about-turn this morning, PKR assembled a PC in the afternoon. The full text of Sivarasa’s press statement can be read HERE.
I just want to draw attention to some of the things that Sivarasa said today :
‘Yesterday, in this very room… Mr. Bala Subramanian released a Statutory Declaration… In front of dozens of persons, Mr. Bala stood by his sworn statement, but in an answer to a question he acknowledged his fear for his personal security due to the power and position of those he has implicated. I am very troubled that last night, one way or another, and true to Mr. Bala’s concerns, another crime was committed.
…This sorry episode confirms again what Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said yesterday – that there is a consistent pattern of manipulation of the criminal justice system in this country. Last night witnessed yet another instance of manipulation of evidence relevant to the most significant murder trial in recent times.
…We are fully satisfied that the first statutory declaration by Mr. Bala was voluntary and with the intention the truth should no longer be hidden from the public – that it was important for us to know the secrets he had carried with him since October /November 2006. Our confidence in the original declaration is based on the information given to us by Mr. Americk Singh Sidhu and our observation of Mr. Bala himself.
…We demand that a Royal Commission be established to investigate the key question stated above – which of these two statutory declarations represents the truth?’
________________________
The views of two commentators to the ‘1st July or 4th?’ post :
From tzarina at 10.17pm :
‘…Anwar and PKR should have learnt a lesson today. When you use someone as a public informant against the most powerful figure in politics, you should not let your informant fend for himself and his family alone against the vultures. THEY do not have an embassy to protect them…
From Toyolbuster at 8.49pm :
‘…I just can’t understand how on earth could Bala’s 1st lawyer just drop him off into the lion’s den unaccompanied, knowing the damning consequences that he faces immediately after the 1st PC. How could Anwar just let him walk off unprotected knowing damn well he was most certainly the prime target after such an explosive exposure by him. I would, if I was Anwar, take Bala into hiding and protect him of his dear life, or at least get the best lawyers to represent him in such event that he was asked to go into the police station. But hell no, his brilliant lawyer just dropped him off at the gate of the police station. No wonder Bala got rid of him real quick. And serve you right Anwar for using Bala and dumping him just after he has served your purpose. Are we looking forward to a new government, you tell me’
___________________________________
Assume that Sivarasa’s assertion that Bala’s first SD was ‘voluntary and with the intention the truth should no longer be hidden from the public’ is well-founded.
Assume that the first SD was indeed voluntarily made.
Did they not think there was a need to lend Bala some sort of protection against any sort of pressure after releasing such a damning SD?
Siva says now that Bala yesterday ‘acknowledged his fear for his personal security due to the power and position of those he has implicated’.
Siva is now ‘very troubled that last night, one way or another, and true to Mr. Bala’s concerns, another crime was committed’ ?
Remember the release of part 1 of the VK Lingam video in September last year and the refusal by Siva and another to disclose the identity of the whistleblower?
Remember the ACA threat to jail them if they did not disclose?
Malaysiakini reports Sivarasa responding as follows to that threat :
‘If we have to take the punishment to protect our source, so be it’
You guys forgot to protect your source yesterday?
Much as I respect Siva, perhaps the most laughable part of his press statement today is this :
…We demand that a Royal Commission be established to investigate the key question stated above – which of these two statutory declarations represents the truth?’
Another huge bill for the rakyat when the answer is just another press conference away?
A comment sent in by Ashok to the ‘1st July or 4th’ post at 8.35pm hits the nail squarely on its head :
‘They are playin politics over a murdered woman. If they say they have “evidence” implicating someone in murder, then, for god’s sake just bloody reveal them. No need for stupid SD’S that are susceptible to human fallibility. And don’t just say that the evidence will revealed in “due course”. That will earn them more respect and credibility. So, Anwar and PKR, just ******** reveal this evidence that you have, if not, you are as low down as the ones you point your fingers at’
During the PC yesterday, one of the journos present asked Anwar whether the only evidence they had was the SD.
Anwar’s reply to this starts at 2 minutes and 50 seconds into the video clip below.
If you’re too lazy to check, this is what he says ;
‘We will adduce further evidence soon. This is not the end. i just want to test, not only the nerve, but the commitment. Prime Minister said everything should be professional, okay…
3 minutes and 45 seconds into the video clip, Anwar also says :
‘The other evidence will come, you just be patient, in the next few days, hopefully…it’s like the VK Lingam video tape, cannot be..dia kena ada like a series of bollywood drama…’

Don’t be so hard on Bala’s lawyer Sidhu. Obviously Bala was tricked by a friendly phone call from a known ASP to go to the lion’s den on his own.
July 5, 2008 at 12:34 am
This must be the joke of the century.
That Bala & Americk thought I Polis Raja wanted, in inviting Bala to the polices station, to congratulate Bala for his thoughtful SD suggesting the DPM, Police & AG should be hung.
Were these guys born stupid or had to go to Police School and Lincoln’s Inn to learn how?
July 5, 2008 at 12:40 am
see how the lawyer said about dropping him (after giving him encouraging advice) alone at the police station. and he comes out next day recanting the first SD. readers natural reaction is that aha the police has intimidated him ( or possibly threaten him or/and his family). anger consumes the readers and viola its a reinforcement of perception of manipulation of the system to protect the powers-that-be.
This is no different to the strategy to release enemies so that they can be trailed and led to the ultimate goal. in this case, to taint the police with ulterior motives to protect some higher ups. Sounds plausible?

Looking at AI style he is playing a game of wits and preparing the ground. It keeps ppl want to know what next and building it up to a climax. I am sure the msm though biased would want to keep their boss informed and for him to reply. Through feeding bit pieces AI is tempting the opponent to make his move to further expose their weaknessess. The 2nd SD has proven how those in powers have reacted. Good for publicity esp for foreign media…proving the 1st SD validity and locally he is looked at as a clown, untrustworthy, treacherous.etc. I am sure by now the umno idiots will think twice to have him as a PM. Election is coming near.
If AI reveal all the evidence he has it may only invite a one time big reaction and then what. Probably it will be forgotten in a few days through media and msm blackout.
AI play your game you think best for the new found asshole bandit will be sweating it out.

Dear Haris,I really doubt Siva’s concern for Bala last night. If he is sincere and concerned,he will voice out his fear with his party and propose some steps to be taken to make sure Bala is safe from the police and the Najib camp.Instead he left Bala to chance.Only now he protests.Too late,Siva.Too late.
So,serve Anwar and PKR right for being checkmated today by the second SD.That is the result for being so careless and leaving things to chance.
If this is the kind of leadership PKR is going to project,I don’t think it will have much to offer us,in terms of stability and progress.
I failed to understand Anwar’s attitude.Last time,he disclosed the Lingam tapes in two parts.Okay,fine.But please don’t use the same trick again. For something as urgent and important as this murder case, why don’t he come out with the evidences in one shot? That would lend more weight instead of breaking them up into several parts.
Not all Bollywood blockbusters came in series, dear Anwar. Some more memorable ones are actually full length movies.
I am getting bored with his antics…..yawn…yawn….
July 5, 2008 at 1:46 am
The message is clear…..Bala was an informant…..Anwar and PKR cannot protect informants and this may spell disaster for other PKR members if they get into trouble…..and Americk Singh clearly has no balls……Bala guy was a lamb to the chopper……others after him will be careful about dealing with the PKR and Anwar and I doubt if anyone is going to engage a guy like Americk anymore……if this is Anwar’s modus operandi…..can he really protect this country…..

The police and Judiciary (IGP & AG as well) are all STINK as we RAKYAT know.GOD will send them to H**L FOREVER including BN/UMNO goons! They are all corrupted, lies, abuse of power, cheats, robs, etc etc that make us suffering everyday. We RAKYAT have lost faith and don’t trust the govt anymore. We just want change of govt!
July 5, 2008 at 2:22 am
Cut out all the craps! Move on to the epilogue!
Now he’s got a cut and dried case. So, sue! Still no legal action when it’s given on a plate? It makes you wonder why? Take it to the final step- sue all the libellous parties. Then, “maybe” we will beleive. Let’s see what other dirts will turn up in the court of law. The libelled party will, without fail, always take legal action if they are sure of a win. No more listening to denials- a sure win case is now before his eyes, so SUE, SUE, SUE! I am really sick and tired of all these- from pro & anti N supporters. When will N-supporters ever learn? The mud is stuck forever, no matter what arguments you put forth, unless he takes legal action to redeem his characters. Settle them in the court of law. No legal action means no transparency, in turn means something to hide. If not, the father of Altantuya should take out a private prosecution. That should bring it to the ultimate climax end!
Afetr that, perhaps we can get back to the business of running the country. Banana republic is speeding towards our way. Hope you all realise that. That includes Dr. M- an elder statesman that should be guiding the nation back to a normal course and settle all the differences; instead, creating more faction fightings and chaos. Is he getting wiser or more senile as the years pass him by? You all will have to answer to your children in the not too distant future when the boat is sunk into the deep blue sea without trace.

Bro,
This PKR circus show is getting utterly tiresome to follow.
If AI has the temerity to seek refuge in a foreign embassy to safeguard his own life, apparently encouraged by his family and top party advisers, why couldn’t they envisage the same predicament for BS (no pun intended here). I seriously wonder what safeguards AI have for all of us ‘IF’ he gets to be PM.
Hokay… Let’s conspiracise (sic) in fitting with AI’s methodology:
a) After BS’s 1st SD came out in a grand show organised by PKR, he’s dispensable.
or
b) After BS’s 1st SD was revealed, his next job was to get the 2nd SD released ostensibly to muck up the first SD thereby creating the impression of government intervention. Who’s to know that there are no anwaristas in the RMP!
Therefore, why do I get this nagging feeling that Sunday’s PROTES rally will be ‘hijacked’ to serve another diversionary purpose.
Meanwhile, there is another treacherous scam – Petronas being ‘hijacked’ by the benefactors of this current gobbledegooking which got everyone’s panties twisted.
So what’s at stake at Petronas? In excess of RM80 billion annually which will be up for grabs for the ‘winner’. Haaa! Now the recent price hike makes sense, doesn’t it. PROTES we should and priortise we must.
And folks, the actors involved in the above-mentioned sideshow are not part of the ‘winning team’.
Sorry Haris, I’ve digressed from your posting. Must be the stale rawa thosai RajRaman gave me.
July 5, 2008 at 2:30 am
I find this extremely bizzare.
What could the ‘authorities’ have possibly done to cower Bala into ’submission’? It’s not like he has been beaten up (I guess they shouldn’t do that anyway), or has his family members taken away (shouldn’t be too hard to verify, or is it?). Or, is it just a highly calculated finesse by PKR?
I tend to suspect that both parties have something to hide, which resulted in having to do incredible things to outdo the other
July 5, 2008 at 2:31 am
Either they have the evidence or they don’t. Stop playing games. A woman was murdered. Shame the devil and let all those who were responsible for it face the music, however mighty they are. Anwar, Siva et al, stop playing politics with this. If you don’t have the evidence, then shut the hell up. You do not deserve the respect and support of the rakyat if you continue this sickening charade
July 5, 2008 at 2:47 am
After the first SD by Balasubramaniam, Najib in his press conference said he met Saiful Bukhari Azlan in his (Najib) house, before Saiful lodged the police report. To get them (Najib and Gang) to say more, Anwar must reveal evidences one by one. All you know, by next week maybe Badawi will say Saiful is his godson. And I really think the police should check Najib’s BED.
July 5, 2008 at 3:58 am
Haris, I have to agree with Meng on the disadvantage of the ‘once and for all show all proof’ game plan. The moment DSAI produce all the evidence, Jibby will make full use of the UMNO’s machinery to rebuke and contradict everything in its path. There is nothing else to lose and collateral damages would be the least on his mind.
You must have already read about this UMNO Putera guy who suggested that they swear on the Quran. Now, if only he knew what politics is all about, he would have laughed himself sore after prayers.
Be it DSAI, Patail, Musa, and especially Najib whose life is on the line. Do you think he would not place his hand on the Holy Book to absolve himself? If he is indeed involved in the death of Altantuya, what is Hell to a man, if he can enjoy paradise on earth for a long time yet before divine retribution. Afterall, no one can condemn you in Hell because everyone there was condemned in the first place.
Take care Haris. I know you’re sweating your ass off running up and down SodoLand. A note while driving. Watch out for hitch-hiker thumbing for a lift. Don’t stop for young single man that is tall and handsome donning a back-pack in front of his chest instead of his back. He might jump onto the driver’s seat and ass you to drive it home !!!
Sorely, can’t yelp myself.
July 5, 2008 at 6:04 am
Unless…..that was the plan. To leave him unprotected so that he may be coerced into retracting the allegation. Take a step back and think about it….who really comes out looking like a douchebag with this retraction?
either way, both sides are playing politics with the need for justice for a murder victim. Thumbs down across the board for both sides!

July 5, 2008 at 7:19 am
I remeber reading somewhere that Bala was left at the police station at about 4.35pm. Najib made his press conference at 7.pm or thereabouts. And in his press conference, he made it clear that he “knows” that the SD is a lie, that everything is untrue, that he is not worried (because he said “look, I’m smiling”) and that the truth will prevail.
Never once in his press conference did he say that he will take legal action against Bala, not for defamation, not for false declaration, not for anything. In fact, I don’t think he once mentioned Bala’s name, and instead diverted the entire press conference into that of Anwar’s sodomy case. Was he that confident that Bala would retract his SD, so much so that he didn’t feel the need to “hentam” the bugger? Perhaps the 3 hours made the difference?
(What do you think Haris? Any hint of possibility here?)
But speculation aside, PKR, Anwar and Americk should bang themselves on the head, good. To leave Bala at the police station alone is plain idiotic. But for Bala to NOT request for the lawyer to be with him was also nuts. What were they thinking?
I’m going to go on a tirade if I don’t stop, so I’ll stop here. And as Ashok said, this is starting to get sick, if they’re playing games over a murder case. Think of how Mr Shariibuu is feeling.
July 5, 2008 at 7:26 am
Dear Brother Haris,
Any news about RPK? Is he safe?
July 5, 2008 at 7:46 am
I am utterly disappointed with some of you here who unfairly point fingers at Anwar, Bala, Sidhu and Siva.
Now, what sort of protection can they give Bala when they themselves are equally vulnerable to threats and intimidation.
Who is to protect you from the POLICE!!!
Remember friends, they are confronting the most corrupt instruments of the government, namely the police and the AG chambers.
When the police force itself is the perpetrator of evil and abuser of the law, tell me what protection can you expect from anyone.
This a psy-war friends. A war of brain power and naked brawn.
And Anwar’s strategy is to give more rope to the other side to hang itself.
There are times when we need to take sides for a larger good.
July 5, 2008 at 8:04 am
Remember RPK SD. He did not go into hiding. So why should Bala? After all he himself should know better as an ex-SB. He should know the danger ahead. He would have ask for protection before he gave the PC. So HI I this time I do not agree with you.
July 5, 2008 at 8:08 am
What sort of protection could Anwar offer to Bala when Anwar himself has no protection? Even if Anwar shelters Bala, just for how long? 1 week? 1 month? 1 year? No matter how well Bala is protected, they will get to him somehow. Once they find him, he’ll be forced to do like what he did yesterday. And remember, the protection is not just for Bala but his entire family. What just happened was something that cannot be avoided.
But as citizens, we demand an answer for all these questions. Why was Bala called to the police station and what happened in there that made him change his mind the next day? Where was Bala that night? Why Bala avoided the reporters the next day? Why wasn’t his actual lawyer used for the Second Declaration? When and how did Bala come to know of this new lawyer? Who called the hotel to arrange for the second press conference?
July 5, 2008 at 8:20 am
With respect to Mr Haris, I don’t believe Mr Bala needed anybody to “protect” him from the police. Wasn’t he the ex-Special Branch guy who was actually hired by Abdul Razak Baginda to do protecting work? He received a phone call from someone he obviously knew personally, a friendly party so to speak, asking him to drop by at the Brickfields police station. AS for protection from Najib, that’s political. And that’s not done by hiding him somewhere.
July 5, 2008 at 8:50 am
Digressing abit.
To Malaysia Today fans out there, you can access by copying and pasting this link:
http://202.75.62.194/
from where, I read this statement by Bar Council President’s latest statement, extracted:
===============================================

From what I see, Siva “purposely” left Bala to the police cause this is the intention of AI to check on how professional the police force or who is giving the instruction.. AI knew this is coming and by leaving Bala to the police is only to ‘trap’ them.. God knows maybe in the next few day we might see a new tape of what happen during Bala’s visit to the police station.. (and from what AI talk about the evidence is actually a tape recording of what happen in the police station, AI might not have any evidence but AI knows that the VIP involved will soon take some action so AI took this opportunity to entrapment those INVOLVED).. Bala is a PI so he must have the ability or instrument to make a secret recoding.. unless he was strip to his underwear..hehehe…
Now that is why I think they left Bala alone to the police!!
July 5, 2008 at 9:04 am
Agree with you, Mr. Smith.
July 5, 2008 at 9:35 am
mayb what Hamidah said at the Perak state assembly was true after all.
Lets quit running her down and congratulate her
July 5, 2008 at 9:40 am
I think it is good that Bala was not followed and protected. Should he has been secured and covered by
his lawyer and PKR then the SD2 would not have surfaced that soon. The issue here is he is a ex police and a PI he should know his parameter. He is not an idiot just to come to agree to the SD2 unless, otherwise. Just look at the SD2 why only those that touches on NAJIB was removed your guess is as good as mine.
July 5, 2008 at 9:41 am
DON’T BE TOO HAPPY YET, UMNO! YOU STILL HAVE TO DEAL WITH RAJA PETRA’S STATUTORY DECLARATION!
July 5, 2008 at 9:43 am
A lawyer has a solemn duty to give proper advice to his client. His first duty is to serve the interest of his client.
Did this police-appointed-lawyer (oh, what’s his name) give proper legal advice to Bala on the legal implications of retracting his first SD?
He has to come forward to say who engaged him and why he failed to advice Bala, unless his motive is to get him into hot soul.
Perhaps he too was under duress!
July 5, 2008 at 9:51 am
What Bollywood drama nonsense! PKR, you are dealing with life & death, sorry death here! So quit clowning around – if you have something, out with it! Justice must be served, swiftly!
We can’t trust government instruments, true, but what makes PKR think we can trust them? We are sick & tired of these games played by shrewd politicians in the name of the rakyat but in actual fact it is all for self interest only. ‘Self above service’ should be all politicians’ motto.
July 5, 2008 at 10:05 am
Anwar’s ways of dealing with the powers-that-be border on the amateurish. First, he knew about the mole, and instead of giving the mole a wide berth, he got close to him and gave him the chance to defame him for sodomy. Second, he allowed Wan Azizah to beg for AAB’s help in the glare of the public and gave AAB a chance to polish his ‘good guy’ image; and third the fiasco in not giving Bala the proper protection. I begin to wonder if PKR has what it takes to truipmh over the awesome apparatus of the state. Anwar and PKR have made a lot of glorious claims so far, but we are only hearing thunder and not seeing any rain.
July 5, 2008 at 10:08 am
Bro,
It’s a relief of the most comical order!
I have never thought much of Sivarasa, both as a strategist and as a lawyer. And so, this latest episode, as they say, fits the maxim res ipsa loquitor.
Personally I think the PR in general, and PKR in particular, should concentrate on their duties as the opposition in parliament and the ruling party in 5 states. They must always remember of the mandate given them by the people in the last GE. Discharge their duties responsibly. Do not drown themselves in the power which they seemingly have. Always be on the ground to FEEL the people’s feelings, desires and needs. And go about working for the people and the country.
I am glad to note that most of my friends in PKR have not changed a teeny wee bit. William Leong and Wee Choo Keong for example. But Sivarasa, I think, has somewhat sunk into the political quagmire, the very quagmire which he so strongly sought to criticise not a long time ago.
I agree with you. They should just GET ON WITH IT. Because frankly, I am getting tired of these nonsense!
July 5, 2008 at 10:15 am
Tempatan,
I think you meant ” Service above Self “
July 5, 2008 at 10:29 am
This PKR flers and Bala’s lawyer – don’t they watch movies?
Have they not learnt anything from the movies?
And Bala, is he not aware of what he will be confronted with after such a bombshell SD?
July 5, 2008 at 10:33 am
The central issue here is the attempt by PR to take over the federal government by Sept 16. Is this the right thing to do? And in this effort, they are probably assisted by bureacrats in Putrajaya too, who instead of supporting the government of the day with sworn loyalty to YDPA, have chosen to be with PR. We should not be surprised that both sides of the divide have incriminating evidence against the other.
In times of uncertainty and speculation, we should allow for a “cooling off” period. While knowledge of the past may give us some control over the present, forging a way forward must be a collective effort. It cannot be winner take all.
Testing “nerve” here is not necessarily the best of strategy. We are only human, remember ? Testing nerve could backfire and innocent people can be harmed. And worst, people who have made mistakes and wished to reform and push for a better future for all can just give up and sing “Que Sera Sera”.
July 5, 2008 at 10:33 am
u guys forget, by letting Bala go alone, whether threatened or induced, its another ‘potential’ nail in Najis’ coffin……
if Bala was really induced or threatened, its something DSAI or PKR can use against the police also….at a later time..
only then upon revelation should Bala be fully protected!!……….
July 5, 2008 at 10:36 am
CariMakan Says:
July 5, 2008 at 8:04 am
“Remember RPK SD. He did not go into hiding. So why should Bala? After all he himself should know better as an ex-SB. He should know the danger ahead. He would have ask for protection before he gave the PC. So HI I this time I do not agree with you.”
But this is an unfair comparison. RPK is related to the Selangor royalty while Bala is just a man in the street. Surely you don’t expect Bala to have RPK’s ‘balls’?
July 5, 2008 at 10:37 am
Mr Smith Says:
July 5, 2008 at 9:43 am
“Did this police-appointed-lawyer (oh, what’s his name) give proper legal advice to Bala on the legal implications of retracting his first SD?”
Good point Mr. Smith. This new lawyer reminds me of one Yacob Karim who was appointed by PDRM to persuade Munawar to plead guilty to a coerced confession during the infamous Anwar trial in 1998.
July 5, 2008 at 10:43 am
Is AI’s trying to isolate his opponent. All the bits and pieces trickling in would serve as educating the thick head umno goons..here time is a factor as it takes time for goons to assimilate the events as it unfolds. Hopefully C4 would be isolated and infighting takes place to oust him out in their coming election.
The credibility of AG and IGP has been shaken and c4 isolated…When AI drops his final bombshell, this team would be ineffective to push for action under the
threat of national security.
Smith has rightly said it. Psywar.
July 5, 2008 at 10:46 am
By the way. I don’t think PKR got shafted. Bala’s first lawyer Sidhu has come out to say that to the best of his knowledge the first SD was voluntary. Bala’s behaviour gives the public impression that the second SD was made under duress.
So PKR has got 2 cakes for the price of one. First the damning details of SD1. And then SD2 (under duress) to give credibility to SD1 with strong impression of abuse of state machinery.
Come to think of it, it’s 3 cakes for the price of one!
July 5, 2008 at 11:17 am
I no longer trust any politician be it from the opposition or ruling party. I am aslo very suspicious of certain bloggers who claim to champion the free of expression, transparency and accountability.
And Malaysians are generally gullible and mudah lupa.
Let’s look at how we are being easily conditioned. When Bala second SD came out, almost all questioned and full of suspicion that the 2nd SD was made under duress with indirect linkages to Najib camp. Why do we believe so is because we got carried away by the euphoria and condition that anything done not in favour of Anwar camp is definitely not correct.
Have we ever asked if the first SD by Bala not under any influence by Anwar camp? Bear in mind, Bala is PI for Razak Baginda and why all of sudden we didn’t have any reservation that Bala could be planted by Najib camp when he made the 1st SD? Or is it because the first SD’s content is in Anwar favor, we just conveniently blind that concerned. [When Saiful made the sodomy allegation (which is not in favour of Anwar, immediately the picture of Saiful with the DPM office background are use as definite indication that Saiful wa planted by Najib camp].
Do you really thing Bala made the 1st SD voluntarily without any influence from PKR camp? You answer from your heart? I subscribe to the great saying “There is no free lunches in this world”

Few observations though:
Since we are talking about two SD, let’s examine certain points.
1. Yesterday, he was all happy and chatted with every journalist, local and foreign.
Today, he refused to talk or take a single question from anyone.
2. Yesterday, his meeting was announced 24 hrs before it was scheduled.
Today’s meeting was in obscure hotel where few journalists were called in.
3. Yesterday, he was a happy man, vety jovial and chattery.
Today, BN newspaper the Star wrote that he “was visibly perturbed”
4. Yesterday, he has informed the people and the journalists who were the people who have jailed him, harassed him, omitted his evidence and maltreated him.
Today, he didn’t say who has forced him. Who has given instructions. Who has mistreated him. He simply refused to talk but run out of the hall visibly disturbed with deep eyes.
5. Yesterday, he didn’t meet the police before he released his SD in front of world media and local as well,
Today (yesterday’s night) he has spent in BrickFields where he was immediately summoned after he has released his SD and was taken to the station by his former lawyer.
6. Yesterday, he has released a comprehensive SD touching on Najib, Musa Safri, Baginda, Police, Prosecution, Witnesses (etc),
Today, he has released the same SD but the parts that referred to Najib removed. All other people were retained. (Ha ha! I wonder who advises these people.)
7. Yesterday, he was a well combed man, with office shirt- and well prepared
Today, he was wearing a dirty T-Shirt with a cap and a was acrrying a plastic bag (black). As his new lawyer talked, he didn’t talk, chat, look up, greet or handshake anyone unlike yesterday.
……..These are simple observations that any intelligent being can pick and realise what’s going on. Furthermore, it is not Bala or Anwar who is in charge of the Defence, Security, Intelligence, Criminal and Justice system of this country but the 3 men accused of conspiracy and evidence manipulation. (Najib, Musa and Patail). You don’t need a child to know who uses force. It is not Anwar who seeks shelter at Embassies fearing for himself but the men who exercise that power over the said institutions.
PS: The Deputy PM doesn’t need Bala to retract any statement which is a perjury now and a criminal act in the penal code. He only needs to file a defamtion suit. Can’t he? If yo are innocent, why trouble yourself with Bala? Just go to the court and said you were defamed and there you go and get your due. When he was asked yesterday, he refused to file a suit, just like he and Rosmah refused to file a defamation suit against Raja Petra. If people are mudslinging you, insulting, incriminating you, and you are innocent, why not seek justice? It is because he knows in courts evidence will be produced and knowing that the Altantuya case has been pre-arranged (we have followed it as a nation), he hopes that by simply denying SDs and refusing to file suits, things will get cooled and he will move on. Heavenly no. Malaysia’s name is at stake. It is not about him, about Anwar or Badawi. It is about this nation and its people.
NB: If he has no confidence in the judiciary of this country by refusing to seek justice at the courts by filing defamation suits against his accusers, who else will trust the regime? The dead? Oh, I’m sorry…we are alive. Thanks to God!

PKR’s is playing politics. Just like Lingam’s tape. If PKR didn’t play politics then there’s a possibilities of another SD claiming various things to destroy the authenticity of the tape.
I think they are doing the same thing here. Anwar and others knew very well how BN and the police operate. Ask Munawar, Azizan, Umi, Sukma and etc..etc..
In any event, it is unlikely Bala can live peacefully after the first SD. Now, whether BN like it or not the first SD is more credible after it being withdrawn.
When more evidence released by PKR, the whole world going to know which of the two SD is true.
The last time when Mahathir decided to remove his deputy it wasn’t an easy task and now the same for Badawi, I guess.

“show us what you have!”
I fear the worse will happen when AI releases a tsunami. It would shake the corrupted administration and in retaliation they will release their own tsunami – declaration of Public Order and we become the loosers. Indication given lately cannot be taken lightly.
As such Pakatan cannot effort to hold open rallies prior to the full release by AI as this would be seen
as a direct challenge to law enforcement. One may argue ones right to assemble, similarly one can also argue his right to have a peaceful drive through town.
As the magnitude of rallies increases, law enforcement personnel on duty rises proportionately. The police force is already thin on the ground or exhausted in manpower for coverage in all aspect of their work.
As they become over stretched, they have no choice but to declare Public Order to call in the AF to assist. This is where the problems starts. The AF are not trained in law enforcement but to deal with a given situation mainly in crowd dispersal, enforcement of curfews, searches and others. One must look at what happened in May 13 how terrible it was the way the AF carried out it task…I do not wsh to see another similair situation .
Holding rallies in the stadium no one can find fault with it..no destruction, disruption…etc of daily lives!!!

RajRaman,
Personally, I think you have a good heart and your dream to help the poor is highly commendable.
Have you considered the numerous and various charity organisations that already exist without starting a new one? Besides, who is going to run the new one that you have in mind? Not you obviously because you’re only prepared to put up the seed money to begin with. But you expect others to follow through with your proposal and carry the responsibility of making it work.
However, I will be meeting with Haris, Helen and several other bloggers later today at Bloghouse, including Zorro and Alliedmarster who both have regularly done their part in assisting the poor, destitute and elderly, to put forth your idea and see if something can be done to help you realise your dream.
Real charity begins not just at home but in real life, not on the blogs or in cyberspace. A sincere charity is done without fanfare or too much publicity lest people might think that we are expecting a pat on the back daily. And a noble charity is one which survives the test of time and adversity because it is done by people who abhor recognition.
And you seem to fail to realise that there is a larger issue at hand which if not handled properly, will create more charity recipients in this nation. Haris is doing his best to help all of us understand the predicament we are in and perhaps, with a little more understanding and self-humility from all who are participating here at TPP, a just and sustainable solution can be achieved.
So Rajraman, do you still think my stale rawa thosai analogy is an affront to your sensibilities? If so, I’d make an apology to you in person, in real life and at Bloghouse tonight. Fair enough?
July 5, 2008 at 12:10 pm
Wow..this is getting interesting. you all want justice to be done..and at the same time accuse Anuar of making mockery of a woman’s death.. If all of you are so sure that police and AG (and the judges) are the most trust worthy element of our judiciary system, then simply just accept whatever verdict the court will rule. But then deep inside some of us, there is spot that keep pricking us, telling us there is somethiong fishy. So fishy that it smell all over the place. Now many of you angryly want Annuar to give the evidence (without any stragegy)to the police (Musa is smiling now) and that will be proceessed by AG ( Patail laughing now) and finally The judge(s)(they are winking now) will rule on it. And all of you truly believe justice will be served here in full. Sorry mates.. got to wake up ….
July 5, 2008 at 12:23 pm
I would say Mr Smith is correct.Bala is not a small boy, after all, he is a PI and an ex SB personnel. He knows what he is doing. Why should we grumble for nothing. The point that really matters here is, was he sincere and committed when getting himself involved in the first place.
July 5, 2008 at 12:42 pm
Look at it again boys and gals:
By leaving Bala alone, Anwar and his group wanted to show one thing: that there is a clear consistence of manipulation in the criminal justice system by Najib, Musa Hasan and Patail who are interestingly the least professional people we have ever heard. Anwar wanted to show that they (The police-Najib-Musa-Ghani) always fabricate evidence, manipulate the system and cow people. What makes it even more inspiring is that Bala just made his 1st SD in front of the world media while laughing and saying…“Oh, if you spend one night in those joils…you will sign…” (etc). So Anwar has scored big here. Even before the evidence is produced against Najib in relation to Altantuya, by forcing Bala to retract the parts that are related to Najib and leaving the rest in tact makes it more potent. ASP Tony who has jailed Bala before and Musa Safri of Najib’s office and all other accusations were left alone but Najib’s part removed. That there is clear conspiracy and consistent manipulation has been established. The Star, a BN leaflet did a marvellous job by showing a dejected, teary-eyed and forlorn Bala crying to the Heavens unlike the earlier jovial, happy, chatty and engaging Bala the previous day. The damage has been done and I’m of the opinion that Anwar was deliberate in releasing Bala so two objectives are attained:
1. To show the dark forces who manipulate the system, cow witnesses, omit evidences, conspire to cheat and deceive.
2. To discredit the SDs so that in order for Altantuya to get justice, the judge(s) will have to examine afresh and demand to know which SD represents the truth and this is what Najib is avoiding. The matter going to court and that’s why he has refused to file defamation suit against Bala and Raja Petra despite the fact that he is obliged to do if he is innocent. In either way, the damage has been done, the manipulation already established and there can be conclusion to Altantuya’s case unless the SDs are examined by a court of law and lawyers and you know what that means and who has been doing all he can to avoid such outcome and fate.
July 5, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Haris,
Give PKR a break.
If it wasn’t for PKR, would anyone else been so bold and daring enough to expose a corrupt regime?
Could any other ordinary individual or non-governmental organisation be able to do this?
No, right? No one has been able to unearth and expose the corrupt regime for what it is, right?
Thanks to PKR, right?
What your bone with PKR then?
You want them to just quietly run Selangor?
Despite the hurdles and troubles that the government gives them?
Run the government quietly and not stand up for injustice (Parti “Keadilan Rakyat”?)
Can’t a political party do both?
Come on, Haris. Cut some slack.
July 5, 2008 at 12:48 pm
PKR is UMNO re-branded. The game thet they used to play amongst themselves are now out being played in the open. Just stick either to PAS and DAP which has CAUSE proclaimed in their respective constitutions. PKR’s CAUSE is to embarrass and rub down UMNO. This is not good enuff. There is no need to institutionalise PAKATAN because it will end up like BN where a dominant party will dominate and other parties will just nod their heads. A loose coalition is good where each party can yell at each other like what Karpal did to PAS i-slam-ic state ambitions, or Nik Aziz careful approach (read: extreme reluctance) to work with DAP.
PKR is UMNO re-packaged. You can take Anwar out of Umno but you can never take Umno out of Anwar.
July 5, 2008 at 12:59 pm
I can’t help but to agree to Mr. Smith. How can AI or PKR or his lawyer protect him when none of us here in Msia can be protected from the corrupt administration.. remember Mr.Najib said .. he believes in the system (yeah.. because the system can be adjusted to protect him)
I also agree to Meng on the disadvantage of the ‘once and for all show all proof’ game plan.
Just wait and see! I believe more characters and proofs will accidentally be exposed just like the law firm where Bala SD2 been made at- a pro-establishment law firm owned by Zulkifly Rafique who is Federal Territories minister Zulhasnan Rafique’s brother.
So.. la di da di du.. wait and see, the movie has just begun!
July 5, 2008 at 1:14 pm
This is obviously a political game where both site is laying down thier strategy as when to attack, defend, counter attack and checkmate. I believe, whatever we can think off here should have been thought off by both party, otherwise this game will be vey much lopsided and game over soon.
The whole episode is just at the begining stage. It may take ages to end this game. We can only pray hard that both player can put national interest on top of thier own polictical interest. If there is way to end this game amicably, both player should consider it for the sake of the people and the nation.
We all wish the true will prevail one day and but that this very one day may be at the price which is way too high to be paid for. Just like what the Malay proverb said “Gajah sama Gajah Berjuang; Pelanduk mati di tengah tengah”.
History will prove it all one day. Just a matter or time.

How to Protect a Whistleblowers:
1. NEVER leave them ALONE
2. Always have someone with a camera or mobile phone with video accompanying them, until at least the follow-up concrete evidences are released.
3. Provide the family with a secret safe house, perhaps out of the country. At least in Singapore.
4. Any communication with the police or AG chambers must be done in the presence of lawyers.
DO SOMETHING. ANYTHING. Instead of “dropping the whistleblower” right into the mouths of sharks. Especially when you are dealing with powerful political figures who have the nation’s entire police force, AG and armed forces at their disposal.
“Protect” doesn’t necessarily mean security only. It also means a method to capture in picture/video/audio any threat from the people who were accused by the whistleblower. So that the public will have undisputed evidence on the sequence of events between the time the scandal is blown wide open, and the time when the whistleblower changes his story.
THINK out of the BOX, people.
July 5, 2008 at 1:43 pm
Be patient.
What is a few weeks of waiting, when it has the potential to expose MORE CROOKS that goes beyond DPM lying?
This is a good test to observe whether MSM like The Star, NST, The Edge, etc. provide truthful reporting.
It is also a good test to observe whether online MSM like Malaysian Insider provides truthful reporting or continue to engage in “ANALYSIS” whose author are unknown.
It is a good test for everyone in the government, starting from the very top to show their hands.
It is also a good test to know who holds what position.
Remember, this rot did not start 2 years ago.
It goes much, much deeper and longer.
Even the Military Intelligence has now come out in defence of Najib when they rarely do so. So, more supporters / crooks are coming out.
There is a saying – when one spots a cockroach in the kitchen, there is rarely just one cockroach. You want to flush out all of them.
So, be patient. What is a few weeks when there has been a huge rot over the last 2 decades?
Justice is best served when it is properly served, not impatiently served.
July 5, 2008 at 1:47 pm
Nice to see that others also view that the current corrupt administration must be dealt with. And this appears to be one of PKR’s causes. And we should give support.
We should not use this excuse “we have had enough of all this drama”.
If there is deep-seated corruption in the highest public offices in which the people have placed their trust, someone must fight against it.
PKR is the only one daring to do this. Or is able to do this.
Give them support. Don’t whack them down.
July 5, 2008 at 2:22 pm
This is ridiculous. And I am outraged. The water is so murky that even if the truth ever surfaces, it will be so tainted with mud that nobody can take it face value.
The whole sordid affair is unfolding like a soap opera writ large. Whilst I can choose to switch off the telly, this one is instead coming up and biting me on the ankle. And unlike ‘Desperate Housewives’, the loose ends here are not going to be tied up at the end of 40 minutes or 20 episodes. And most unfortunately, this tragi-comic opera involves real lives, real issues, and tax payers’ money.
Wouldn’t it be tax money better-wasted if each household in the country were to be given an Astro subsciption instead? That way we can decide whether to tune-in and be enraged/entertained or tune-out and get on with our daily lives of trying our best to survive this Barang Naik winter of discontent.

Any PI worth his salt would have asked those things revealed in the 1st SD and probably at the same time do a background check on its authenticity. No brainer here.
I think the AI camp has anticipated such moves by the police. It’s logical isn’t it? Do you expect the police to keep quiet in light of the declaration?
I don’t know what will follow next but I have a feeling the whole thing is being played like a good detective story.
When the final curtain falls, it will reveal scene by scene like in a CSI movie about how the crime was committed.
July 5, 2008 at 3:00 pm
If you look into the Who’s Who on both sides of the divide, we will surely realize that there is only one man who has the consistent track record, the credibility, the courage to fight injustice, a leadership style that is respected and recognized worldwide (No, I am not talking about Tun M).
Surely this man could have amassed wealth if he had just “Yes yes TunM, I just follow you” but he did’nt and he paid dearly for it.
To Malays out there, in case you are still stuck with this Ketuanan Melayu mindset, the fight has nothing to do with Chinese or Indians trying to subvert the Malay dominance on the pretext of controlling the economy. It is a fight against the rule by people who are corrupt/unjust “cruel/zalim” against the righteous people who demands justice. In both groups, all races are represented. The Chinese and the Indians must also confront the “evil” in their own community and and once we start addresing this issue, only then can we move forward confidently.
July 5, 2008 at 3:24 pm
I don’t think Anwar has solid evidence. He may have hearsay or circumstantial evidence and is trying to get collaborative statements to be made by Najib. If he has a video or a photo, he should release them now.
But is was silly to let the PI go to the police station on his own and I suspect the PI did not get the protection promised to him. As I have written earlier, this politicking have to stop.
Cheers.

D.Zin,

Bravo !
July 5, 2008 at 4:23 pm
BECHAKAYU!
I totally disagree with u!
DSAI was never UMNO!
We have known him since 1974!
He has always been a RAKYAAT’s Man , An Activist!
Only after 1998 & his incaceration ,did he evolve into a one man human dynamo!
Just ponder for a moment : if not for what happened to DSAI in 1998, we fools, the so called Rakyaat would still be in darkness!
In 1975, we marched fearlessly against the Police.
In 1988, we tried to march but got scared.
In 1998, we marched & marched.
In 2007, we marched & marched.
In 2008, we got back our country{March 8th.,}
The CATALYST : SAUDARA ANWAR IBRAHIM!
Does any one see anyone else {aside from RPK}?
So lets all joins hands & forces & march & kick the dark & evil forces away!
One Question about the Mongolian Matter has been answered by BALASUBRAMANIAM.PI { both SD’s }VIZ: Two Specially Trained Police Personnel assigned as Security Detail to The DPM, who cannot take orders from any one except the BOSS/SUPERIOR, cannot take instructions from Baginda.Todate, including Baginda’s so called LOVE AFFIDAVIT, has not indicated the answer. So how come the charge. The investigation is shot to pieces!
The PI’s SD{both} have given us the answers! Thus RPK’s SD has sealed the matter!
Now, lets sit back & watch the monkeys squirm, like cats on a hot tin roof!
Chiao!
July 5, 2008 at 4:49 pm
PKR, Anwar and the lawyer are moronic to leave Bala unprotected to fend for himself. It’s sad I had to and still will vote for PR cos lack of alternative. *SIGH*
July 5, 2008 at 4:53 pm
If PKR got shafted and was told ‘Now quit larkin’ about and show us what you have!’
Then the same goes to RPK..I really like to see what he has..

“The point that really matters here is, was he sincere and committed when getting himself involved in the first place.”
Filing a false SD is an offense punishable by 7 years jail. How can you not be committed in the first place?
July 5, 2008 at 5:56 pm
This is just a joke ok. Here is a solution to the Ketuanan Melayu matter. Get Karpal to move a motion (I dont want to say ‘pass a motion’) in Parliament that henceforth all Malay names must be preceded with a ‘Tuan’ for example Tuan Tun Dr Mahathir or Tuan Dato Nazri Aziz. Ladies must be preceded with ‘Tuan Perempuan’ for example Tuan Perempuan Dato Rafidah Aziz etc.
To maintain equality among Malays, those who are already known as Tuan for example Tuan Guru Nik Aziz or Tuan Syed can remain status quo. I believe this will solve the ketuanan Melayu problem. Cheers.
July 5, 2008 at 6:01 pm
D.Zin above is absolutely right.
July 5, 2008 at 6:26 pm
I agree with Ashok. Anwar says the sodomy report was made in the nick of time to prevent four BN MPs from jumping ship. Who are they? Just name them lah. Quit mucking around.
If they have evidence against the AG and the IGP just put it up on the Blogs or on You Tube. Like they did with the Lingam Video or the Chua Soi Lek video.
What are they waiting for? This is beginning to smell like Ezzam’s famous ‘I have boxes of evidence’ to reveal. In the end nothing was revealed. Ezzam finally joined back UMNO.
Here is another morsel. Anwar is still labelled ‘Advisor’ to Party Keadilan Rakyat. Why still ‘Advisor’? Has Anwar joined the party yet? Is he even a member of PKR? Or is Anwar saving his virginity for UMNO?
One suggestion is that the end game is Anwar joins back UMNO, uniting PAS with UMNO in the process. Malay unity and Ketuanan Melayu are preserved and the b*ggering of the country starts all over again.
What do I see? Plenty of naive people.

Are the comments by tzarina and toyolbuster which Haris picked up to showcase within his own posts faulty ?
A wider read of Americk’s comments leads to his question of which place is safer than the police station. In this case the police station could have been the lion’s den, but then again, it is at this point in time, all pure conjecture and specultion that bala’s disappearance was not anticipated or part of the plot. Any stinking skunk would have smelt the possibility of Bala being spirited away, perhaps under the pretext of police protection. But is there folly on the part of the cops to allow bala to disppear? who is the ultimate winner in the disappearnce of bala? Just because anwar was broungt into the equation when the SD was made public does not mean that DSAI is making us of Bala. I don’t recall anybody officially telling the world that DSAI or PKR is making use of Bala. Not even in the second SD did Bala say he was working for or with Answar or PKR. Some may think the circumstances are evidence enough to establish the link. I may be slower, but unless the parties themselves admit that they are in cahoots, I say that it is premature and a blasphemy to establish such a relationship.
July 6, 2008 at 2:49 am
Just hypothesising here, Haris……
Is it not considered inappropriate to comment publicly on cases sub judice? Is this not an offence in itself, leading to contempt of court proceedings, and especially in criminal cases where all this press and public discussion may be judged as an interference with due process?
And won’t all this sordid sensationalism, hyped up to a feeding frenzy by the media, now pose a real danger of turning Altantuya’s trial into a “circus” thus leading to the three current accused being potentially acquitted from the fact that all this publicity will prevent them from receiving a fair trial?
Due to all the alleged improprieties revealed to date and now associated with this trial, is there not a real possibility that the trial judge will have to declare a mistrial, and so order a re-trial of the same case? If that happens, then isn’t there a real possibility that the defence will call in Bala as a witness to give sworn evidence in court?
Or can the defence now potentially call for a mistrial on the basis that there appears to be alleged misconduct of a serious nature on the part of the prosecution (in allegedly suppressing relevant evidence?) in this case?
If so, is there a double-jeopardy rule in Malaysia that will bar a retrial should a mistrial in fact be declared? If yes, will this not lead to the current three defendants being acquitted?
And if the DPM is suspected to have had a hand in this tactical ploy, could this be why Bala has not yet been sued by the DPM for defamation? But then again, why would the DPM want to risk a mistrial or even a new trial being declared as would that not risk much higher exposure for himself and his equally high-profile spouse?
However, if there is no double jeopardy rule and a retrial is declared, and the defence calls in Bala as a witness for them, can the prosecution not rightly then argue that Bala’s testimony is a blatant lie and so be able to rubbish and negate Bala’s witness testimony completely due to Bala now having totally shattered and destroyed his credibility through his two bizarrely contradictory SDs?
Hmm….as all of this appears so apparently convoluted, one suspects that an interesting game of political/legal intrigue and chess is being played/ orchestrated behind the scenes…..
Bala (who one suspects to be a slick and smooth operator, and a greasy insider, and who obviously knows and understands all the hidden rules in this sordid game) appears to be colluding with some person/s and playing a game of high-stakes poker in this high-profile murder trial (for some sort of personal financial gain probably) with Malaysia’s politics and her due process and Rule of Law.
What Bala has done is very serious. The real effect of his actions with his two SDs – which though contradictory, do not negate each other in any way and which only go to prove conclusively to me that Bala maliciously/recklessly lied under oath – is to have interfered in due process and so usurped the function of the courts in administering justice and consequently to have undermined dangerously the Rule of Law, assuming of course that this all important abstract principle still exists in the country and has not as yet, been totally corrupted and so perceptually destroyed in the general public’s confidence and consciousness.
Bala should, in my opinion, be arrested and charged for perjury for attempting to undermine and make a mockery of due process and the rule of law, and for potentially opening a technical legal loophole (through the publicity generated) which may allow Altantuya’s alleged murderers to get off scot-free, thus denying the gruesomely murdered Altantuya and her unfortunate family receiving any justice in Malaysia. And can Bala also not be charged with criminal defamation for vilifying the DPM/Government, given his second SD?
Any possible justice for the murdered Altantuya – who was, to be graphic, cold-bloodedly shot in the head twice at point blank range and then blasted to smithereens with C4 to cover-up her murder and obliterate her physical existence – may now potentially rest, whether in this trial or any retrial/new trial, solely on that military intelligence that Raja Petra Kamarudin has stated as existing in his (hopefully still credible) SD.
However you look at this, what Bala’s two SDs appear to have done in reality is to have damaged the DPM’s public image, political standing and career to some extent due to some of the dirty mud slung having by now stuck to the DPM and his spouse, and also in the minds of the general public, irrespective of whether Bala‘s claims in his first SD were true or not.
The mode and manner of Bala’s retraction of his first SD and the contents of his second SD may also further suggest to the general public that either the DPM or maybe the AG/PDRM through the DPM/AG/IGP had a hand somehow in “forcing” Bala “under duress” to retract his first SD and lodge the second.
Sorry for the boring hypothesising here on the latest servings of sensational (and Malaysia’s soul-destroying) farce and as ever, one’s hypothetical postulations may of course be utter rubbish and seriously off tangent……..

Haris,
We appreciate all your effort and sacrifice to restore the power back to civil society. However i agree with Zamri that at times i feel you are too hard on Anwar.
Lets face it what alternative do we have at the moment ?
How many RPK’s and Haris’ do we have at the moment ?

Dear Brother Haris,I think I belonged to the minority group.Yes,I am very sick and tired of BN too, like the rest of you here, but neither do I pinned all my hopes on just one man,Anwar Ibrahim and one party,PKR.
I think to heal this country is not a one man’s effort.
It is a collective effort.I wish to see a more concrete and solid collaboration of PKR with it’s partners within the PR instead of fighting alone.
Zamri, who says we don’t have other leaders who are credible, courageous and consistent in fighting corruption and injustice beside Anwar?
Opposition leaders like Lim Kit Siang,Lim Guan Eng and Karpal Singh have been victims of ISA before and they are as credible, courageous and consistent as Anwar is believed to be, in fighting corruption and injustice.
Infact these people are already fighting corruption and injustice long ago, when Anwar is still a part of this corrupted regime. So,he should be considered a newcomer,
fighting only after falling out from TDM’s favour.

Perhaps the evidence has to be carefully packaged in such a way by the lawyers to incriminate. No point setting a trap that leaves wriggle room for the fish to escape. Maybe it’s evidence that falls under the OSA.
Or perhaps the evidence is in the hands of a third party. Or overseas.

PKR got shafted for not ‘protecting’ Bala? That’s laughable.
PKR has no powers to ‘protect’ citizens, even if they wanted to. Who are they to go around ‘protecting’ others? That’s exactly what Anwar’s enemies would say, and probably you too. Damn him if he doesn’t and damn him if he does.
No wonder your country is in the state it is in now. You people have been thinking in this warped manner for so long – 50 years, right? – that many of you can’t think straight any more.
If anyone is so concerned about ‘protect’, why don’t they protect Bala? Bala’s SDs are not about putting Anwar in power, but about Ms Altantuya’s murder case, in which he was involved. In fact, PKR was kind enough to help Bala make the 1st SD. Or why not protect Anwar, who is in deeper sh*t than Bala ever will be.
So Bala’s lawyer “just drop him off into the lion’s den unaccompanied” and left “himself and his family alone against the vultures”? If you say your own police are a lion’s den of vultures, then logic says your lion-vulture police must have insisted he be unaccompanied. So they could work him good. Which they did.
Hello, isn’t the job of protecting citizens the job of the police?
Bala and his family have disappeared. Surely he is already under police protection, just like Saiful. Because he just became a prime witness for the prosecution in Anwar’s coming trial.
Now that Bala does have protection, why the complaints about PKR not giving Bala protection? Are you infering that protection from PKR is more trustworthy than the police protection Bala has now? Watch it, or you’ll be the next one to get hauled up and ‘protected’ by your lion-vulture police.
It is in ‘protecting’ Bala, as you put it, that PKR will get shafted. They can be charged with any number of crimes in connection with doing that.
After cautioning Malaysia about the fresh sodomy charge and then getting scolded for it, you can be sure the US is now keeping its beady eye on the situation. Singapore too was scolded by Malaysia to be careful about what goes into news about the Anwar-Najib standoff.
Letting Bala go to the police station unaccompanied, as requested by the police, was a stroke of genius.
Look at the outcome. There is now a 2nd SD, which is identical to the 1st SD except for the glaring omissions of all references to Najib. Perfect.
Taken together, the two SDs, published online and reported in the foreign media, show up the devious workings of those in power. Brilliant.
As Anwar expected, and contrary to what some are saying about a “media frenzy”, there was a news blackout on the 1st SD incriminating Najib. There is a frenzy in the blogosphere, yes, but the blogosphere is not the media, and it is confined to the blogosphere, which doesn’t filter down to the masses.
Whatever happens, the authorities will say Anwar is lying, will go ahead with his 2nd sodomy and corruption trial, will convict him and throw him into the slammer, this time for 20 years. By then, Anwar will be too old and decrepit to even think about another two-bit, snivelling, gay dropout, never mind run for premiership.
If PKR had followed your reasoning, there would be no 2nd SD.
In not ‘protecting’ Bala, which is not their job anyway but the police’s job, PKR and Anwar show the evil-doers for what they really are.
Anwar allowed himself to be a scapegoat of sorts, as he must have known that the SDs and retraction can be used to drum up corruption charges against himself, in addition to the sodomy charge.
PKR and Americk have declared that Bala did not make the 1st SD under duress. Would you like to wager whether their statements would be accepted in any Malaysian court?
Raja Petra did not have ‘protection’ from PKR or anyone when he made his SD. It is a testament to his courage, and perhaps also to his royalty connections, that he refused any arrangement with the police and stood his ground.
Now let’s take a peek at your friendly neighbourhood sodomy accuser, Saiful. HE was put under police protection and safely hidden away, incommunicado with the public, was brought in to make a statement about his police report, and sent back into safe custody. Note he was relaxed and smiling, like some sort of hero, when he reappeared. Question is, why is he under police protection? From whom or what? You don’t need to be more qualified than a Uniten drop-out studying to be a pilot on scholarship to know the answer.
And why condemn Bala’s first lawyer? Was he bad? How? Bala has appointed a new lawyer, who is advising him now, after being interviewed by the police. Is this new guy, who appear to have been assigned to Bala, better or worse than the first lawyer? How?
If you are not Anwar or Bala or RPK or Ms Altantuya, with your life on the line, then you are in no position to dictate when or how ‘evidence’ should be announced.
All Anwar’s statements have been branded as lies. Would it really make a difference if he publicised his info all at once? Would that really ‘bring down the government’? Dream on.
There’s too much of this ‘let truth/justice’ prevail’ mantra. Look at who are the ones meting out your bloody (figuratively and literally) and fu*ked-up (figuratively and literally) Malaysian justice.
So when corrupt leaders play their deadly games, it is letting justice prevail? When Anwar tries to do his bit bringing out the facts, already difficult in and of itself, oh, then he is berdrama, larkin’ about. Never mind the danger to his own, his family’s and his witnesses’ lives. What is a handful of Malaysian lives that a handful of C4 cannot solve, kan?
You may call your leaders clowns but, when it comes to self-preservation, they are not stupid. They have made all the right moves for 50 years, and that’s not going to change any time soon.
Don’t delude yourself that big changes are sweeping the country, or a new dawn is breaking for the rakyat. No way will it happen, with you people thinking in the small-minded, petty way highlighted in this post.

Singapura, what a good piece. I hope it ‘jolts’ some of the brains of the so-called Anwar’s think tank. Terlalu banyak rhetoric tetapi otak kurang cerdik. They could have easily anticipated the rebuttal dan sudah ada jalan keluar. What the hell happen to the ’strategist, planners, implementors surrounding Anwar ? In short, Anwar and the gang tidak lah sehebat mana’.Banyak perlu lagi dipelajari. For starters , look into Hillary Clinton’s think tank – HillaryLand. Look how good, organized and dedicated they are.
