Anwar arrested
July 16, 2008
Anwar was arrested just before 1pm today enroute home from the ACA office at Putrajaya where he attended this morning to give his statement in relation to his report against Musa Hassan and Gani Patail.
My source tells me that he has now been taken to the IPK opposite the former Pudu jail.
I have also been informed that Sivarasa is presently with Anwar
Will update as an when I receive more info.
People, be calm, please.

July 16, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Can someone tell me what happened to RPK blog (Malaysia Today)???
July 16, 2008 at 2:05 pm
What I want to know is whether sivarasa is going to be in parliament? Isn’t parliament still ongoing?
He’s my MP. I’d rather he be in parliament. I will say Im tired of the bickering, finger pointing etc. Nothing seems to get done in parliament.
July 16, 2008 at 2:08 pm
I heard the semi intelligent officer over the TV was giving Anwar until 2pm today to present himself to record his statements. What the hell with this police who are so desperate to arrest Anwar? The police could not even keep their word of yesterday, how could we expect them to be fair to Anwar? What do we call this? It is only an accusation, nothing has been proven. Why this high handed approach?
Deep from the bottom my heart I say this; What the police and ruling party do now to Anwar could create havoc in this country. Family man like me who has not attached to Anwar or to his party except supporting fairness in the country also could feel the heat and urge to do something silly to teach the authorities. I wonder how the ordinary feel?
July 16, 2008 at 2:14 pm
there is a new defination for stupidity. First they (Police) wanted DSAI to come to the Brickfields police station on 14.7.08 and after that they took court injuction to prevent DSAI from within 5km radius of The Parliment building. Guess what? Balai Polis Brickfield is well within the distance and how could DSAI present himself there. Now they are saying that DSAI ignored their request and goona take further serious action. So you see the defination for stupidity
July 16, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Our government is trying to test the people again. This time it is not the same as 1998. NST said Anwar face is covered with cloth when being taken away! WTF?
July 16, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Cuddlyfamily:
“He’s my MP. I’d rather he be in parliament…..”
I am flabbergasted. I think your operative word is “MY…”. When the country is deepshit, you are concerned with YOUR MP not in Parliament at this critical moment in time. Today’s event has nothing to do with bickering, finger pointing, etc. It has all to do with our justice system, our police system and our rule of law. You deserve the Govt we have today.
God help you, your children and your children’s children..

July 16, 2008 at 2:22 pm
Dear Haris,
I am not going to cry, I am not going to cry…
but heck, I’m feeling depress at this news. Police also looking for RPK.
Pray, this is not a repeat of 1998. I really am not feeling good at what happening now.
You take care.
July 16, 2008 at 2:25 pm
Can you see how our government treated us?
We are not a piece of garbage but they are.
Rakyat want them to pay what have they already done!
God is watching!
July 16, 2008 at 2:29 pm
Its clear they are doing this out of spite as well as to create a backlash from anwar supporters, thinking they have their back covered. They think!
Fortunately in all probability there will be a backlash! The govt and the police are going to get themselves into an intractable problem.
July 16, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Dark chapter being re-written over and over…and we dare to call ourselves a democratic country..PUIHHH!!!
Another sad day under the BN regime..when will the people ever learn!!
Disillussioned
July 16, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Though I am not a big fan of Anwar, my heart goes out to him and his family. BN is so insecured that they feel threatened by Anwar’s presence especially after Shabery Cheek’s disastrous performance during the debate. SC had guts but he could only take pot shots at Anwar. My guess is he didn’t have enough “ammunition” to counter attack his opponent.
I could only pray for Anwar, his family and this country.

We can allow another 1998 to happen again.
UMNO-BN need to be shown the door now.
July 16, 2008 at 2:42 pm
Sorry … We cannot allow another 1998 to happen again.

Cuddlyfamily: What a selfish myopic dickhead you are. Next time you face injustice at the hands of the police or pay your bribe as you are caught speeding, please remember you allowed the cops to behave as they do because you prefer Sivarasa to stay in Parliament rather than attempt to start the change in the rottenness of the cops.
July 16, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Are we governed by idiots? Or are they so incompetent that they have idiots running our police department?
If they arrest AI after he fail to show up said at 3pm, things will be more managable. To arrest him at around 1pm when his appointment is at 2pm is suicide!
July 16, 2008 at 2:59 pm
Basing on what is written by the blogger he was on his way home and not on his way to IPK where he should be heading.
Meanwhile, for his own REPORT, he humbly and readily went to ACA to have his statement recorded BUT for other people`s report against him, he didnt care or gave the same weightage and wasnt in a hurry to give his statement although it was reported that he did agree to go to IPK on monday. What gives?
July 16, 2008 at 3:04 pm
It seems that there were 15 vehicles in the convoy. Definitely too many. And to be arrested by polis bertopeng?
Will wait for more info.
July 16, 2008 at 3:06 pm
dear justicescales,
i agree with you. this people like cuddlyfamily thinks that having sivarasa there, parliament would be a batter place to be… look, LKS is there, LGE is in parliament, YB cili padi fong and teo’s are there. Husam Musa is there… why must sivarasa be there when his friend, his comrade and his client is facing arrest?
think of the big picture. DSAI is our one only hope to be the next PM. if he is arrested and jailed for a crime he didnt commit, who then will be the next PM?
Najib? Khairy? who who?
its a black day in malaysian history again, go read malaysiakini and find out how he was arrested.
July 16, 2008 at 3:08 pm
Haris,
How can people be calm with this latest gangster action from the police?
Why need to have a convoy of 15 police cars to escort him to the IPK?
Why the high drama?
For goodness sake, it’s only for a sodomy charge!
Not a murder charge!
He’s not Hannibal Lecter!
This is an outrage!
July 16, 2008 at 3:12 pm
I’m thankful for that “warning” from the Americans. AI has a better chance of surviving.
July 16, 2008 at 3:13 pm
Malaysia is going backwards and backwards and backwards and backwards………………………again. How sad!
July 16, 2008 at 3:13 pm
Yes, I agree with justicescales. What a stupid selfish dickhead this cuddlyfamily is.
July 16, 2008 at 3:14 pm
Do someone feel that this whole episode is very phallic? It seems to me the police is out to more than just investigate the case. they seem to want to sent the message like some dog on heat…
July 16, 2008 at 3:18 pm
i’m wouldn’t call myself a fan of anwar, nor do i think much of the cult of personality that is prevalent in local politics. but i do think that anwar is a pivotal figure.
he was, after all, the man who made the march election results possible. he is the only one at this point in time who could conceivably break the bn stranglehold. which is why he must be destroyed. even if it has to be done in the crudest manner imaginable. with a lapuk script from 10 years before. with the same third-rate actors.
what the bn govt is doing right now is to muddy the issue (sodomy) and to inconvenience the public (traffic lockdown in the city) to such an extent as to hopefully put off people like cuddlyfamily, who want to get on with their lives, who think anwar’s personal problems with the ruling elite has nothing to do with what is wrong with this country.
to turn a blind eye now is just to play into their hands. but i suppose ignore can be bliss.
i just feel sick inside that we have to go through the same shitty charade of the law being put to work, when it is so patently political. and i feel for anwar and his family that in our quest for freedom and a say over our own destiny, he will again have to pay an awful price.
so he is ambitious, so what? god knows he has gone thru his baptisms of fire. he has spent years in prison on trumped up charges. that’s iron-clad credentials in my books. and compared to the goons out who covet the leadership of this country, he is head and shoulders above them.
what a sorry day for this country. again.
July 16, 2008 at 3:19 pm
ARRESTING ANWAR??
Haris. I am channeling calm CALM CALM but it ain’t happening too well.
I never believed in, nor trusted DSAI but after the debate and now what is happening to him?
Guess what that has done to my belief system!?
& then now they are looking for Raja Petra?
I guess our H(a)i & Mighty Gomen has finally decided the time has come to kill off all all the strong voices of the people.
NIAMAH!!! I hate to say this word but it is VERY liberating and CALMING to say it.
July 16, 2008 at 3:21 pm
We the rakyat will not let the 1998 injustice case to happen again. If anything happen to him , I know the fury of the people will burst and fight the cops and probably the army. We all must be united and strong to fight against them. We must not let the police or military to rule the country.
We Malaysian don’t want to end up like Mynmar ,Phillipines,North Korea etc in which the people are too weak to fight the corrupted govt and military and ended up living in misery. We are supposed to be a beautiful and loving country.
Just name any action, we willingly participate. I will be one of them.
July 16, 2008 at 3:28 pm
I am disgusted with the police and govt. It just shows these people have no integrity and using threat to rakyats. I lose respect for the authority. I won’t be surprise army would be called in by Najib to handle those who protest against DSAI’s arrest. Let rakyats rise up against any injustice. It clearly shows Govt is in disarray and AAB is losing control.

What, got arrested even before the dateline at 2 pm Wednesday? What sort of police is this, rather, what sort of govt is this? Why give a dateline in the first place when they are so determined to arrest him anyway?
This country is getting worse each day, soon we are on par with Burma or even North Korea. No more basic human rights.
Eventhough I am no fan of Anwar or PKR but I don’t agreed with this kind of treatment.I hope he will be released soon and given the chance to defend himself in court.
July 16, 2008 at 3:38 pm
i feel that the police should not have arrested DSAI because the police says they have interviewed 18 persons in the sodomy allegation, therefore if they have enough evidence by all means charge him. You only arrest a person when you wish to remand him/her for further investigation. This is an outright abuse of power.Haris, please continue with your fight in highlighting such abuses and never for a second be fed up with the bickering or finger pointing as cuddly family is doing cos ALL these evil must be exposed and eliminated that righteousness and goodness will triumph!
July 16, 2008 at 3:38 pm
OMG.my pray to Anwar.i have no idea what my country has become!it hasnt pass the deadline though..
-anger & sad malaysian..
July 16, 2008 at 3:39 pm
This has been posted elsewhere, I have taken the liberty of posting it here:
History teaches us important lessons. There is strength in numbers!
Some examples of popular responses to tyranny:
1. General strike e.g. May 1968 in Paris, France (ended Charles de Gaulle’s rule)
2. Refusal to obey unjust laws e.g. Mahatma Gandhi’s Salt March of 1930
3. Mothers of the Plaza de Mayor in Buenos Aires, Argentina i.e. weekly protests for their loved ones who had been “disappeared” by the military regime of the mid-1970s
4. Chilean women banging pots and pans to protest hyperinflation during the rule of President Salvador Allende
5. People Power movement of the Philippines (ended the rule of Ferdinand Marcos and Joseph Erap Estrada)
6. U.S. Civil Rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s
Don’t despair people, change is coming!
July 16, 2008 at 3:39 pm
Raja Petra Kamarudin has been ordered to report to the ninth floor IPK KL (opposite Pudu Jail) at 10.00am tomorrow (Thursday, 17 July 2008).
According to the police, Raja Petra is to be charged for criminal defamation with regards to the Statutory Declaration that he signed on 18 June 2008.
It is not known yet which court he will be charged in as the Attorney-General has not decided yet.
Further news to follow.

Has Malaysia become a police state? Do the think they can jail Anwar they did it in 1998? Really tak pakai otak….
July 16, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Yes, not another 1998, if we rakyat can help it. Nobody deserves this sort of treatment. If the government thinks this is the wisest thing to do to make Anwar a non-issue, I think they are sadly mistaken.
July 16, 2008 at 4:11 pm
We cannot go on and on with all these high-handed abuses. If we do, then we would have permamnently joined the ranks of the rogue governments dotting the world map. The police had conclusively announced that IF anwar does NOT show up at 2.00 PM the arrest warrant will be activated. And if they had done so, they would have earned the kudos of all.
But no, they arrested the MAN OF THE HOUR like some Osama. WHY?
July 16, 2008 at 4:15 pm

Dear Pete,
Monday 14th July 2008 was indeed a “Black & Sad” day for K.L & Malaysia.
At the Local scenario, it does not take much to cripple this city (as proven by the Home Affairs Minister…) so the people can also do likewise…drive their cars, trucks, etc to the city & breakdown !!!), the business rayaat can also shutdown their shops like “Chinese New Year” for a week, etc.
If only our Government can accept their short comings to try to work together with their new partners to identify, find solutions (long & short term) & make good all the nation’s & rayaat’s plight…MAYBE there is HOPE !
This daily Political “Cat & Mouse” games, even in Parliament is not going to, get this nation & its Downtrodden rayaat anywhere. It is just “Gutter Nonsense” like “Kindergarten” kids..such Scumbags paid by our hard earned money.
The scenario has caused the rapid “Downward” spiralling Regional & International Image/Ratings/reputation of Malaysia….
Foreigner investors are pulling out, our local Bourse is sliding fast towards 1000 pionts….
Our rayaat still reeling from the Fuel & Price hikes of daily living, & the nation’s neglect of the contingency plans to mitigate the impending sub-prime rate Financial Tsunami…
We are all in this badly leaking Titanic ship together !
Please wake up ,everybody & do the needful as a God fearing, law abiding, Tax paying, Peace loving citizen of Malaysia to save this nation.
July 16, 2008 at 4:46 pm
Dear Haris,
Frankly, I just take this Idiot action.
Its too much!! too much!!.
I got sick of it…!!
Its really make me mad…

Haris,
I totally disagree with you…how do we stay calm amidst the govt action of sodomising the rakyat. I feel if they touch DSAI and RPK it is in direct violation of the rakyat.
July 16, 2008 at 4:59 pm
….and Cuddlyfamily you need to get your head examined
July 16, 2008 at 5:00 pm
I am not sure what is up the sleeves of these rotten people in govt. Be careful, they may be just baiting the rakyats to demonstrate and use the full force of the army and polis on them. The recent army and police exercise was not for nothing. They have planned all these in advance. Be smart, do not play into their hands. Outsmart them by using lawful means to change the govt. Let these rich ‘migrants’ flock to foreign countries….never to return again!

I can’t find the right word to express how disgusted I am with the Police and above all with Abdullah Badawi and his stupid cabinet. As a muslim, you are the worst kind I have seen and you might get away with you sin now but dont forget you have a lot to answer in the afterlife. One thing for sure, you will never get the rakyat forgiveness. Good luck to u!!!!!
July 16, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Dear Haris,
Please help to keep us updated.
The issue is more than whether DSAI is being arrested fairly or not. We all know the consequences. It is so sad, so very sad.
July 16, 2008 at 5:25 pm
Please be calm.
Some people are trying to instigate an incident.
They will then use the incident as an excuse for more painful pogroms.
So dont fall for their “batu-api” behaviour.
Back-off, call your BN MP/Adun either current or the vanquished (i.e. the previous BN MP/Adun for your area) and tell them you are extremely upset. Get the UMNO service center number near your home, and call them from a payphone and tell them how upset you are with the behaviour of their leadership.
Stay at home. There is a comment that tells of other peaceful methods. The most appropriate methodology is to do a “Gandhi”. Stop visiting the restaurants, the food stalls, etc. The word will get to MCA, Gerakan & UMNO that the pocketbook is being hurt. If u stop the gravy train to UMNO, MCA, Gerakan, then the pressure will increase on UMNO & BN.
Stop doing things that generate extra income for corrupt civil servants. Do I need to elaborate? I hope not.
Make this a NIKE moment. Just Do IT!
People,
Please read this and take heed.
Let us fight this inteliigently
July 16, 2008 at 5:37 pm
Malaysian, do not worry bout terrorism, bombing innocent ppl , kill, murder , rape,
“Carnal intercourse againt the course of nature” is the no. 1 crime in malaysia. the effectiveness and efficency of our police amaze us. seems like they are arresting Hanibal lecter.
the goverment popularity will be all time low after this incident.the underhand dirty tactic makes us feel our goverment is inhuman.
July 16, 2008 at 5:46 pm
i have no doubt the assassination threat is real, they really go extra mile to get rid of him at all cost.
Dont tell me PAS is contemplating to join this evil regime. the act is unethical and low blow below the belt.
the public emphathy and sympathy goes for a fellow human being named Anwar devout of his human right and respect. think Anwar as a God’s child like us not some politician that happen to pose a threat to the rulling goverment.

BobSam has hit a good strategic nail squarely on the head, so Syabas to BobSam
And maybe the Rakyat can push the boat out a little more and try extending that Buy Nothing day to a Buy Nothing week? Makes perfect sense too, to start strapping-in those belts, as a BIG tsunami-like-recession is headed everyone’s way….
And maybe the rakyat can also do more tasty home-cooking (instead of eating out) and then maybe go out for nice, long enjoyable picnics on the green grass outside your beautiful Rakyat’s Parliament with some friends/fellow Malaysians? Maybe even invite your nice and friendly IGP/local police to it?
Fun or what?
