One helluva anak Bangsa Malaysia
August 18, 2008
Practically throughout the waiting at the nomination centre on 16th August for the announcement as to the list of candidates for the Permatang Pauh by-election, people just kept coming up to him, either to shake his hand, pat him on the back, pose with him for a photo, or just to express support and admiration for him.
And he had a smile for all, turning no-one away.
Yesterday afternoon, I was talking to a few friends who came round to discuss how to crank up the number of signatures to the ongoing petition exercise. For some days now, it was plodding at an average of about 100 new signatures a day. Bad!!!!!!
Someone went online and exclaimed, ‘Oi, something’s happening, lah! The numbers are suddenly spiralling!’.
‘Check RPK’s site. He must have put something up’, I responded.
Sure enough, there it was.
Hey guys and gals. I hear you. You are talking about standing behind Malaysia Today in fighting against oppression, injustice, racism, wastage of public funds, abuse of power, corruption, manipulation of the judicial process, and much more. But only 5,715 of you appear interested in supporting the petition to our Agong.
Show that you really care and are not just a load of hot air. Please sign this petition to the Agong. Go here to sign it (Petisyen Kepada KeBawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Seri Paduka Baginda Yang DiPertuan Agong berkenaan pemulihan Badan Kehakiman). Do it now and spread the word to all and sundry.
Let’s get at least 10,000 signatures, more than that if we can. Surely at least 10% of you 1.5 million Malaysia Today readers can do that. That should come to 150,000 signatures, not a mere and pathetic 5,715. Come on. Show that you really care and are not fakes who talk only but refuse to act – Raja Petra Kamarudin
When RPk posted the above article, the signatures, based on his write-up, stood at 5,715.
At 2.45pm today, the numbers had risen to 10,049!
I do not know of any other anak Bangsa Malaysia in recent history who has given so much in the fight for justice and equality, for a better Malaysia for all.
You may not agree with all that he writes or does ( like sacking his lawyers in open court. Sheesh! ) but it is hard not to love this man.
He’s asked that we show we really care, that we are not fakes, that we are not all talk and no walk.
And he’s mentioned a magical number : 150,000.
You game to try?
If each of us who have signed on will resolve to get another 10 signatures, we would have garnered a total of 110,000.
Not impossible if we try. And if we don’t make it, at least we will know it wasn’t because we didn’t try.
Pull out the address book. E-mail friends. Call them. Bug them. Just make sure they sign.
10 each. At least.
We can do it.
Pete, anak-anak Bangsa Malaysia salute you!

You know what really surprises me about the fans of RPK?
They DO come in all shapes & sizes! I saw some really “heartland” chinese who didn’t speak much english or it would seem, bahasa (I could be wrong) at an allblogs event in the true spirit of support for RPK.
They weren’t bloggers in the conventional sense but I was told that these heartlanders are such staunch supporters of RPK, they would take a bullet for him.
Our govt should ask themselves
Who is this man who can polarize so deeply and yet have such a strong support base?
IF they really want to expose RPK, they should invite him to an open debate – NOT keep arresting him or muffling him.
The > they do this, the more support he will have.
Why? Because we are made to feel like underdogs so ofcourse we will support another underdog.
Yes. I too believe RPK is a true Anak Bangsa Msia
Whether or not I agree with his postings is not the point. He has a right to his views. As do all of us.
Or isn’t that what democracy means here?
BTW it is comforting to know they may need to build a few more kamuntings for 10,000 ppl

Haris,
Is there any other way we can reach out to more people? Like the people who don’t have computers, or don’t have broadband. I’m sure they’ll want to be part of this as well. We just need to figure out a way to get to them.
Any ideas?
I’m more than game.
su,
1. If people are willing to sign but, for whatever reason, have no access to a computer, they could always give you their details ( name and ic ) and you could sign them in.
2. Download the petition, prepare a four column signing page ( column 1 for the running serial number, to be left blank, column 2 name, column 3 ic number, column 4 signature ) get people to sign at churches, temples mosques, social gatherings, meetings, etc. Send the signed pages to Blog House, at 66 Lorong Setiabistari 1, Damansara Heights, 50490 KL.

i rate RPK just behind The late Tunku as my towering and fair minded malaysians.
MM and AAB doesnt even make it to the list.
my other towering malaysians is
The late Tan Sri Tan Chee Khoon, The late Tun Dr Ismail
and they are all before my time.
RPK, because of you, so many of my friends knows about what the hell is wrong with malaysia. because of you, i can share with everyone i know the misdeeds of the corrupted BN which is entrusted with our future.
RPK sir, because of you I found hundreds and thousands of average malaysians willing to fight to win back our country.
You are truly indeed a God sent Bangsa Malaysian.

Hi Haris,
How about putting up a permanent link to the petition page and a counter showing the current signature count, right up there on your homepage (prominently displayed) so that its the first thing anyone sees when they access your website? I have to admit, it was reading RPK’s article on walking the talk and not being a fake that gave me the courage and final ‘push’ to sign it. I’m really glad I did!
You have a great website. Keep it up and thank you!

I am sorry I can’t help you this time. I’ve already send out the call weeks ago.
tired,
I made all my calls last week too.
And this week.
And will make them again next week.
To check if people have signed, and if they are alerting their friends, family etc to sign.
And yes, I’m tired too

Hello there Haris and readers once again,
Yes, I did my part early this morning by forwarding to at least 70 comrades and kept on bugging them over the phone, sms, e-mail to sign the petition and keep the message flowing to their family/ friends.
We must continue to do our part and ensure that the message gets accross to as many comrades as possible. Do not give up hope and we shall prevail.
Salute of the highest magnitude to Haris, Susan, RPK, Din Merican, Bakri Musa, Zorro for leading us all.

Just wondering, bro.
If the signature target of 150,000 is achieved, will there be a song and dance routine for the presentation to the Agong?
Or do we just do another stroll in the park? In yellow, of course(wink2).
As for RPK, he gave me the ‘is this guy a cop’ look in Feb’07 when we met for the 1st clandestine malay bloggers meeting. Pity that some from within this group have slithered over to other side. I still think RPK is a loose cannon, albeit of a larger calibre compared to last year, but there’s no danger of friendly fire though.
shar101,
Hit 150,000 by the due date and I’ll gladly plan a himpunan, if you people are game.

As RPK said, BN is coming out with a law to force AI to submit his DNA so that they can stick it on Saiful’s underwear and submit it in court as evidence. Isn’t that sick?
So which is more immoral now? For good BN MPs to crossover to PR or for them to stay and perpetuate this sickness on the beloved nation?

I signed up at around 4,000 signatures ago.
Yesterday I emailed my contacts on Outlook with the following message and to-day, I received the same from another friend.
Feel free to copy and send out .
RE: Petition to Our Majesty THE YDP Agong
THE PETITION : http://www.petitiononline.com/6ai18u26/petition.html
Dear friends,
The Judicial Appontments Commision reforms has stalled, predictably, due to opposition from umno members in the cabinet.
Our current Chief Justice is due to retire in October and guess who is in line to take over.
No prize for guessing. The next in line is the President of the Court of Appeals who was elevated to this position on a fast tracked basis, bypassing a few senior judges.
He is Tan Sri Dato’ Zaki, an Umno stalwart who has been embroiled in a few corporate and personal scandals.
1.Tan Sri Dato’ Zaki is the most junior judge amongst all judges of the High
Courts, the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court;
2.Tan Sri Dato’ Zaki is the most junior amongst the 8 Federal Court judges,
and his selection as President of the Court of Appeal would most unfairly
have raised questions about the competence of the other 7 very much more
senior judges of the Federal Court ;
3.Tan Sri Dato’ Zaki has been very intimately involved in UMNO, having at
one time held the position of chairman of the party’s election committee,
deputy chairman of its disciplinary board of appeal and party legal
adviser. It is unclear if he is still a card carrying member of UMNO or if
he has ceased to be one, when he ceased to be one;
4.Tan Sri Dato’ Zaki has been linked to financial scandals involving UMNO
that were allegedly bailed out by the government;
5.Tan Sri Dato’ Zaki has been very intimately involved in the corporate
world as a major shareholder and / or director in several corporate
entities, many of which were known to have business dealings with the
government; and
6.Tan Sri Dato’ Zaki had previously been embroiled in a personal scandal that
implicated him in the destruction of documentary evidence, thus laying him
open to questions of his integrity.
Please sign the petition to our Majesty The YDP Agung , imploring him to restore the independence to our judiciary and ensure the JAC remains on track.
Forward this message to your friends and family members too.
Thank you.
