Dear Najib,

August 27, 2008

Many thought, nay hoped, that after the 8th March general elections, you and your friends in BN would have come to understand the meaning and the force of people power.

We waited for a sign that perhaps you and your friends would heed the mood and the wishes of the people.

In your sheer arrogance, though, you and your friends refused to see and acknowledge the degradation into which you have all fallen, which led to your near total rejection on 8th March.

Has Permatang Pauh taught you and your friends anything?

I will assume that you and your friends are still concussed from the fall and the beating you have received yesterday, and very little of all that has happened is making sense, so I will tell you.

First, understand that the good people of Permatang Pauh have spoken from for every decent anak Bangsa Malaysia.

We collectively reject your race-based, divide and rule, ketuanan Melayu politics.

Our Indian brothers and sisters have no need of your derogatory offer of licences to collect scrap metal. This is an insult to every anak Bangsa Malaysia.

Our Chinese brothers and sisters have not forgotten your agitation to spill their blood in 1987. We collectively remain offended by your racist threat of violence.

Understand that you were not whipped by PKR or Anwar in Permatang Pauh yesterday.

We, the rakyat, inflicted the wounds that you and your friends now carry, notwithstanding your disgraceful attempts to bully and defeat our will that was borne by our brothers and sisters in Permatang Pauh.

Understand that today, you and your friends must contend with a force rejuvenated by self-belief.

The rakyat.

Yesterday, by God’s Grace, we took Permatang Pauh.

God Willing, we will take back all of our nation soon.

By God’s Grace I hope Anwar is granted the strength to fight the evils of politics as there will certainly be many more hurdles for him to clear before reaching Putrajaya.

Please remind Anwar to pay a visit to YB Gobalakrishnan and his sons. They have sacrificed alot for us.

    Dear Haris

Well said. Self belief is the key word. Once that feel is there we are able to forge ahead and face the challenges ahead. You are absolutely right in saying that we are no beggars to be thrown licences and scraps. Enough is Enough. We have been cowed enough. It time to move ahead past the rubbish that had been dished out. I salute the brave people of PP. It would be great when Pakatan Rakyat comes takes over, the Permatang Pauh name is changed People Power. A change to signify that the march solidified at this historic place.

    God bless all of you.

A Sinking “Titanic” (BN) in Malaysia? (The show has just begun!)

Malaysia’s Titanic (BN) was deemed unsinkable when it was first launched. Even when it hit an iceberg on 8 March 2008, it was so hard to accept that the ship will sink. When all efforts to save the ship from sinking was finally abandoned, the Captain (DSAB) just stood silently awaiting the fate as a forlorn man. He was hoping the Carpentia or some other nearby ships will come in time to save the passengers. It was sad to see the Captain firing off some distress flares to alert the Carpentier, but the Carpentier’s Captain (DSNTR) was just not convinced that the Titanic was in distress.

In between is a love story of Leonardo DiCaprio (DSAI) and Kate Winslet (Azizah). Azizah refused to abandon her love, even though many a times, events show she should just save herself. She held on to hopes, hoping against hope that she and her love can pull thru and both will survive this tragedy. Both suffered mentally and emotionally and in the end, it was Azizah left to tell the tale of a great man who sacrificed himself to save her.

As for the crew of the Titanic (Little Napoleons) and their friends who are rich and powerful corporate figures, who helped run the ship, did you see the desperation when they found out that the ship is really sinking. Most of them scramble to save their lives and abandon ship and some, with loads of money found they can’t buy anything they wanted, even a place on a lifeboat to save their lives (TDM migration). But not all, for there was a few brave Napoleons who tried to show they are committed to the name of Titanic (BN) and the show continues.

There was an old couple who just lay in bed waiting for the ship to sink (MIC & PPP) abandoned by the young and too old to move around anymore. There were also musicians still playing the ship’s songs (MCA, PBB, LDP, PBRS, PRS, SAPP, SPDP, SUPP, UPKO) and died like true musicians dedicated to their role of love for music. There were also some crew (GERAKAN) still working to plug the leaks at the bottom of the ship until they themselves died thinking they were heroes not knowing the ship cannot be saved just by plugging some holes.

Do you know who was the director of Titanic (BN) show? James Cameron (TDM).

Did you know this show was shown around the world?

Did you know Malaysia has some of the best actors and actresses and supporting casts?

Anyway, it was just a movie, for the real show has only just begun!

did he mention that “There was not much difference in the number of votes garnered by Anwar when compared with that won by his wife (Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail) in March.” ?

hey, someone should tell him that the increase in margin is about 2000 votes which is a LOT more. but then, maybe to najib who only looks at millions in commissions, the 2000 is virtually nothing.

You can add to your list, the rule by fear.

Since 8 March, they redoubled and trippled their effort to make the Malays fear what is not there.

They made the Malays fear the loss of “ketuanan Melayu”

They made the Malays fear the take over and the rulership of this country by non-Malays.

They made the Malays fear the possibility that they will be unprotected. Here they made the Malays believe that for the last 50 years it has been UMNO that has been protecting them and fighting for them a spot under the Malaysian sky.

They made the Chinese fear that the Malay is suseptible to running Amok anytime and not to push their luck.

They made the Chinese fear that racial riots can start anytime. Like as if racial riots will solve for the Malays all their problems and that is their only recourse to any conflict.

They made the Indians think that without MIC they will not be represented. Like as if not being represented is something to fear.

The PP Malays have indeed spoken loudly that they don’t have to be inhumane, clamouring to be “tuan Melayu”, or that they need UMNO to fight for their rights, or that they need UMNO to protect them.

The point is the people have stopped fearing.

Question is when will the MPs and leaders of the BN component parties stop fearing or continuing to believe in the out-moded UMNO based racist type political landscape? I ask them to suspend all their present believes, flush them down the toilets and walk away from that sinking UMNO ship. There is nothing immoral about jumping off the Titanic to save yourself and your loved ones long before it completely sinks. Knowing it to be sinking if you wait till the last moment it will be criminal as you should know that when the Titanic takes the last plunge there will be no time to escape and even those waiting till the last to jump will be swallowed even if they are already in the water.

I have taken this statement of Tengku Razaleih from Rocky’s Bru2: Razaleih is only saying now what we have been saying here for several years now.

Ku Li: PP defeat shows UMNO must change

Statement on the Result of the Permatang Pauh By-Election

    26 August 26, 2008
    YBM Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah
    Member of Parliament, Gua Musang
    31 Jalan Langgak Golf
    55000 Kuala Lumpur

Today, five months after we met with the biggest General Election loss in our history, UMNO has suffered a landslide loss at Permatang Pauh. This despite the mobilization of the entire leadership and resources of a party that has held the machinery of government without pause for fifty years. This despite a campaign that embarrassed and divided the nation with its ugliness. It is time to face the music: it is we who have been buried:

    - Our leadership is rejected by the rakyat and, moreover, is rejected by our own members. BN’s vote count was less than the number of UMNO members in the constituency.

    - Within and among our component parties we ran a poorly coordinated and listless campaign against a motivated Opposition.

    - What scraps of credibility the Prime Minister and his Deputy had left after March 8 are gone.

Today’s report card, delivered to a Prime Minister who is accountable also as Liaison Chief of UMNO Penang and Chairman of BN, is impossible to hide: he does not have the minimal credibility needed to run the country day by day, let alone to take it in the new directions we need to go in a complex world. He may not have the credibility needed to keep the country together. This dangerous situation cannot continue, and it will not.

I appeal to the members of UMNO and of BN’s component parties to stand by UMNO in our hour of crisis, and to take a sober historical perspective. The people of Malaysia and along with them, Umno’s ordinary members, have found their democratic voice. They demand leadership that can be trusted to unite our people, to restore confidence in our institutions, and forge a clear national direction. Today is proof that this wave cannot be held back. UMNO must change. We must begin by renewing our Party leadership. I am confident that by December, we shall.

    Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah

    Hi Haris,
You have expressed the mood of the Malaysians well. From now on it should be WE MALAYSIANS, instead of malays, chinese, indians and others.

Najib on the other hand will not have learned anything from the loss. He will keep on swearing that he is innocent of all accusations against him and it is the ‘other’ guy who is guilty. Poor Najib. He knows not what will hit him.

  35. Margeemar Says:

“PM ABDULLAH BADAWI KNEW BN WOULDN’T WIN AT PERMATANG PAUH. HE KNEW IT WOULD BE BAD. BY SAYING YOU WOULD REPLACE HIM AS PM, HE GOT YOU TO LEAD THE BN CAMPAIGN IN PERMATANG PAUH. NOW, WITHOUT BADAWI SAYING ANYTHING, YOUR OWN UMNO MEMBERS WILL PUT BN/UMNO’S DEFEAT ON YOUR SHOULDERS. YOU WERE, DEAR NAJIB, BADAWI’S SACRIFICIAL LAMB!

GUESS WHAT, YOU WILL NEVER GET TO BE PM. BADAWI KNEW THAT ALL ALONG. HE JUST WANTED TO FIND A CONVENIENT WAY TO GET RID OF YOU SO THAT KHAIRY CAN CONTINUE HIS LEGACY WHEN HE STEPS DOWN. WHY DO YOU THINK BADAWI PROMISED PAS THE DEPUTY PRIME MINISTERSHIP WHEN YOU WERE STILL THE DPM?

BUT DON’T DESPAIR DEAR NAJIB, FOR IN EVERY DARK CLOUD THERE’S A SILVER LINING. THIS SCRIBE SAYS SO BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH YOU WILL NEVER GET TO BE PM OF MALAYSIA, BUT AT LEAST YOU WON’T BE LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION IN PARLIAMENT COME SEPTEMBER 16, 2008…More http://margeemar.blogspot.com

Can someone translate this one to Bahasa Melayu, I am worry that those from UMNO do not understand English.

You must be tolerant with their learning ability anyway…

  37. Malaysianatheart Says:

Touche bro!, BUT AREN’T YOU BEING A LITTLE IDEALISTIC?

Unfortunately, Najib and gang are never going to “get it”. They just can’t afford to “get it”. They have too many skeletons in their closets. And they realize that the Rakyat will want blood for 50 years (well, actually, more like 27 years) of lies, rape and plunder! Despite all Anwar’s assurances that he will want to “move forward” – the Najibs, the KJs, the Rafidahs and mostly the Mahathirs KNOW that their day of reckoning will come if they were to meekly surrender to the will of the Rakyat. They KNOW that they will not be allowed to ride off into the sunset.

I, for one, will demand that each and every one of them be pursued for all the evil that they have brought upon this nation and its peoples. And I stand ready to make any contribution I can to ensure that this is carried out. And if DSAI thinks that we, the Rakyat, will allow a “let bygones be bygones” approach be adopted – well, he is sadly mistaken. And you can bet your bottom dollar that the Rakyat will unite AGAIN on this issue.

So, I think the Rakyat are being a little too optimistic in expecting UMNO and the BN Govt to heed the call of the Rakyat. WAKE UP PEOPLE! It ain’t going to happen! The only way we can oust this evil lot is to focibly take Govt from them. We have to keep the momentum going and DSAI will either soon have to engineer the necessary cross-overs or engineer the calling of fresh general elections. Either way – it will have to happen soon – as the expectations of the Rakyat are running high. And we have to pray that the Royalty will step in when required!

I wish I could be as idealistic as you Haris! Sorry bro, despite all the sense in what you say, they ain’t going to “get it”. They are fighting for their sordid lifestyles and possibly their liberty. This will be a fight to the very bitter end!

Legend has it that George Washington, America’s first president, chopped down a cherry tree in his youth. The story goes that George gives the tree a good swing and chops it down with an axe. His father sees the damaged tree and asks his son if he knows who did the deed. George is quoted bravely admitting the truth: ‘I can’t tell a lie, Pa; you know I can’t tell a lie. I did cut it with my axe.’

Below is a satire of how some Malaysian politicians circa 2008 may have reacted to the same question:

Abdullah Ahmad Badawi – ‘I did not cut down the tree, I was just taking a nap underneath it.’

Najib Razak – ‘I swear that I have never MET that tree.’

Hishamuddin Hussein Onn – ‘…but I only own a keris, not axe, how to cut down the tree?’

Dr Mahathir Mohamd – ‘Apa nama cherry tree, yes, I chopped it down because, I don’t like the idea of Pak lah sleeping under it.’

Chua Soi Lek – ‘Yes it was me, I resign as caretaker of this orchard.’

VK Lingam – ‘It could be me, it might have been me but I don’t think its me.

Anwar Ibrahim – ‘I did NOT do it, and I am not giving any DNA sample for you to plant on the axe handle.’

Mohd Khir Toyo – ‘The new state government should just trim the grass and not waste time asking who cut the tree.’

Ahmad Said (Terengganu MB) – ‘I chopped it because cherry trees are more expensive to maintain than durian trees.’

Azalina Othman – ‘The cherry tree is not included under my tourism MOU so I cut it down and besides there were unauthorised signboards put up around the tree.’

Shabery Cheek – ‘I challenge you to a debate on tree cutting.’

S Samy Velu – ‘I chopped it because Hindraf members were using it as a meeting point.

Wira Ali Rustam – ‘We have planted durian trees for 50 years and we will plant them for another 50 years, we do not need cheery trees, apple trees, pear trees and all these other foreign trees.’

Rais Yatim – ‘You must see the bigger picture, Ahmad said cherry trees are expensive to maintain, Ali Rustam said that are against our national identity and I needed to test my new axe, so you see, it is a WIN-WIN situation all around.’

Sharir Samad – ‘I cut the tree because we could no longer afford to subsidise it.’

Karpal Singh – ‘The bigfoot creature did it.’

Bung Mokhtar – ‘The big monkey did it’

Pandikar Amin Mulia – ‘There is nothing in the standing orders against chopping cherry trees. Kinabatangan duduk, Bukit Gelugor duduk.

Khairy Jamaluddin – I did not do it, neither did the Mat Rempits. By the way, what’s a cherry tree?’

Lim Kit Siang – ‘Cherry tree also you don’t know, you are an insult to Oxford!’

Nazri Abdul Aziz – ‘Racist, racist, racist! When we cut down durian trees nobody made a fuss. Now…’

Malaysian Citizens – ‘Oh for heavens sake! Somebody plant something before we all starve to death!’

Will UMNO leaders listen to the people’s voice or not?

The next hurdle for Pakatan Rakyat will be the biggest. If DSAI is to engineer a convincing crossover of MPs on 16 Sept, he has to provide a strategic catch – an ultimatum for Barisan component MPs.

PR should challenge UMNO to review the conversion laws, revamp the NEP, eradicate corruption and race-based politics at one go by a fixed deadline, say 10 September. If not, all BN component parties should leave and form their own independent parties or join PR. This is what I call a moral, ethical cross-over.

However, BN and UMNO will fail even more if they maintain their current policies. Second attempts to bring PAS into its fold will be an old trick that no longer works on the rakyat.

Yes…it was a sweet day and I hope the prelude of more miracles for the nation!

    Hi Haris,

Well said as many BN politician from UMNO, MCA, MIC and other of their component parties does not realise what the power of the people could do. It is not about Anwar and it was never about him at all. It is about the RAKYAT being fed up with racist so called leaders who have been raping both the country and rakyat. We wanted change as we deserve it after giving you guys 50 years. Guess how did you all fare, a big red F.We want our country back.

Also remember that pride is like an oak tree…it can stand high for hundreds of years, but it can be cut down in just 5 minutes. Stop treating the people like idiots anymore!

    Very well said indeed.

With our nation’s Historic “Ground Zero” established by DSAI, Pakatan Rayaat & the Permatang Pauh voters, let us keep our “Focus” on our journey to that “Dream” Destination.

    Just ponder on this :

Let us ALL be “Magnanimous in Victory” & not forget that “PERSON” that made it all possible, will be etched in the History of this great nation…..

“Malaysia for ALL Malaysians” (Anak Bangsa Malaysia) where EVERY citizen can “Dream” of, be “GIVEN” the “OPPORTUNITY” to “WORK” hard “TOWARDS IT”, to “ACHIEVE” the “MALAYSIAN DREAM”.

Our Malaysian Heroine of the 21st century – Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Ismail, the first woman “Leader of the Opposition” in the Malaysian Parliament….”Graciously” resigned as the MP for Permatang Pauh to pave the way for this “New Dawn”.

She had sustained the “PKR Fortress” during its “Sad” years , later together with her daughter YB Nurul Izzah managed to elevate it to its present status, achieved the status of being nominated & presided as the first woman “Leader of the Opposition” in the Malaysian Parliament…..

Against all odds, with the Humiliation, Intimidation, Harrassment, Punishment, etc meted to her, her husband DSAI & her family by the “Powers-that-be”…..

My heartiest Congratulations, Gratitude & Tribute to our Nation’s Heroine of the 21st century – Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Ismail.

I am optimistic that the following will happen in the very distant future (God graciously hear and grant us) :

    1. Pak Lah will be rejected by the UMNO prwakilan and may not even be able to hold on to his post
    2. There will be internal squabbles within MCA, Gerakan & UMNO (MIC has been buried for sometime now)
    3. Datuk Seri Anwar will be able to coax at least 35 MPs from BN (Barisan Neraka) to defact from the Dark Side of the Force before 16th Sept (God willing)
    4. Sodomee syiok fella would be found guilty by the Syariah court and will be given 80 strokes for lying through his anus, oops sorry, I mean mouth
    5. Out of somewhere, the real proof about Altantuya’s death would surface and the real VILLIANS would be brought to court and sentenced to death

In the hope that we do not have to go thru the hassle of REJECTING BN/ UMNO 100% in the 13th General Elections, I humbly request for the BN- UMNO/ MCA/ MIC/ Gerakan/ PPP supporters, followers and MPs to think and think hard about the future of our country ASAP & make the right decision to join us in Pakatan Rakyat so that we can end the racial divide and improve the economy of our loving Malaysia as ONE united race.

Happy Merdeka to everyone & God Bless Us All.

  81. Bangsa Malaysia Says:

Najib and Abdullah still do not know why they lost. Everyone in cafeteria is talking about BN ‘dirty’ trick to attack the opposition party especially Anwar. Following are some of things where BN think all rakyat are 3 years old children.

    1. Anwar sodomy case.
    2. Saifu’s ’sumpah’ at mosque. Only the person who guilty trying to do something to prove he is right.
    3. Atantuya case relation with Najib.
    4. Perak 2 ‘menteri’ corruption that caught by a person who walk into cafeteria and thru a big of cash and then followed by BPR. Can you imagine how dirty the strategy is this?
    5. Abdulah said the petrol price will not go down this month but his words only went out in yesterday but the price drop announce in the next two days. Just because it is prior to Permatang Pauh election.

The more BN trying to create all the dirty strategies to spoil Pakatan Rakyat image, the more rakyat will not believe all these and rakyat are getting worry of BN leadership due to immature leadership who is only compete for party instead of improving the country to compete with other countries.

When numbers are in PR’s favor again, same action to take.

Objective of taking Malaysia out of the dumps remain same.

  90. “Fooled!”
On 25 August, the Deputy Home Minister was quoted to have said this in Parliament:

“I hope voters in Permatang Pauh will not be fooled by Anwar Ibrahim’s campaign,” said Chor, the Barisan MP for Alor Star. Balloting for the by-election begins tomorrow, Aug 26.

Well, it certainly looks like the voters in Permatang Pauh have been “fooled”. The MCA voters in Permatang Pauh have been “fooled”. In fact, the whole country have been “fooled”. We have all been “fooled” by DSAI that he can bring about real change to the nation, for that is why the people of Permatang Pauh voted the way they did.

Therefore we, the members of the seven MCA branches in PJ Utara, call on our leaders to take MCA out of BN NOW for the people of Permatang Pauh have shown to us that they would rather be “fooled” by DSAI than to remain as parrots and puppets in the BN coalition.

    Dear Haris,

Since you’re writing open letters, may I be so bold as to reproduce the open letter I wrote to DSAI here in your blog (my blog does not attract the kind of traffic yours do)

    Dear Yang Berhormat,

Let me start off by congratulating you on your magnificent victory in the by-election and also your return to parliament on Thursday as leader of the opposition benches.

I know its only been a day since the by-election and you deserve a rest but unfortunately YB, you’re no ordinary man. Since the rakyat placed so much trust and hope in you, we expect you to start working for us immediately, unfair as it may seem.

What we would like to know is what do you intend to do next, now that you are a member of parliament and leader of the opposition?

Will you now use the august house as a platform to further your stated intention of toppling the BN federal government by further politicking?

If you will permit me, may I remind you of what most Malaysians, who supported you recently hope that you will do instead.

YB, when the ordinary rakyat supported you, it was because we recognized that you are the ‘glue’ that is holding the Pakatan Rakyat together. And we wanted the PR to remain together so as to provide the other half of a 2-party system.

With great humility, we would like to suggest that top on your priority list should be to consolidate and strengthen the PR. Get DAP and PAS to really sit down and discuss to see if there can be common ground to work together all of the time rather than some of the time, with you as the mediator.

If you can achieve this then it is a step forward to a formal political coalition of parties known as the Pakatan Rakyat. In essence we are urging you to turn the present cooperation between PKR, DAP and PAS into a formal institution of a permanent political entity.

I hope you can appreciate our worries that since the existence of PR now largely hinge on you, we worry what will happen to the PR should you be unable to provide the ‘glue’ in the future. We would rest easier if we know that the PR can still continue to function, with or without you, to provide the check and balance to BN, a necessary component in a 2-party system.

Again with humility, may we suggest that YB, now as leader of the opposition, work towards forming a shadow cabinet. This is necessary because we the rakyat are not so interested in politicking along partisan lines per se, but would be more interested in issues that affect the nation and in turn us.

With a shadow cabinet, we will have the opportunity to see for ourselves what to expect if and when we put the PR in government. We appreciate that right now, the PR opposes whatever unfair and unjust policies of BN but in an ad hoc and individual manner. Wouldn’t it be more helpful to the watching rakyat if we can see your opposition in a cohesive and unified manner?

YB, please do not be so obsessed with the idea of attracting 30 BN MPs to crossover in order for you to topple the government before 16 September. Let me assure you that it will happen naturally if you work on achieving the above 2 suggestions from us.

Without taking away any of the enormity of your recent victory, there are still many of us who wonder if you are really for us or for yourself. Do not make the same mistake your BN opponents did when they underestimated the intelligence of the ordinary Malaysian.

Do the right thing that we are all crying out for and we will put you in Putrajaya one day soon enough. Engage in too much politicking for personal aims and we may reconsider our support.

In closing, I would like to humbly remind you that, we the ordinary rakyat, want a truly democratic Malaysia where each and everyone of us is treasured and allowed to do our part for the country we live in. Trust us that if this is allowed, our compassion for fellow Malaysians regardless of race or religion will not allow us to leave ANYONE behind in our quest to go forward as a nation.

Thank you for giving us hope again and may we wish you all the best for keeping alive our dreams.

    Yours sincerely,

    An ordinary Malaysian

Najib is screwed even before he takes office.

  95. Drachen Says:

    Haris,

Just a word of thanks to people like you, RPK, AI, etc. Malays/Muslim are the majority race here and you should be leading the way to a better Malaysia. Other races by themselves can do little. And you are doing precisely that! Bravo!

  102. Fair Malaysian Says:

    Dear Haris:

My heart and hope goes out to guys like you, RPK and the others who have faced tremendous obstacles and at such high risk and cost to bring us the honest and meaningful news to us. What the mainstream media ought to have done (but failed) you have more than compensated and I fervently hope that the Pakatan leadership does recognise and respect this immense contribution. Syabas dan tahniah.

  103. 7 reasons BN lost big in Permatang Pauh and more

    Fellow Citizens ,

The results are conclusive: Anwar had won the Permatang Pauh parliamentary by-election. He obtained 31,195 votes, while BN candidate Datuk Arif Shah Omar Shah received 15,524 votes, and Akim candidate Hanafi Hamat had only 92 votes.

DPM Najib while offering an insincere cursory congratulations to Anwar goes on to make statements that confirm what the cynics have been saying all along,

    that he is “consistently inconsistent”

NST quoted him saying : “There was not much difference in the number of votes garnered by Anwar when compared with that won by his wife (Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail) in March.

UMNO official website quoted him saying this : “Walaupun pada awalnya BN menjangkakan dapat mengurangkan jumlah majoriti undi PKR, bagaimanapun ia gagal berikutan sentimen penduduk Permatang Pauh terhadap parti itu masih kuat”
(Though earlier BN predicted we would be able to reduce PKR’s majority, we failed as the sentiments of the Permatang Pauh voters for the Party was too strong)
Other than making contradictory statements, he shows no grace in defeat at all, The canditate himself Arif Shah was no picture of grace either -saying,

“They were probably attracted to the opposition’s propaganda. But for me, it’s business as usual.”
(Somebody please tell him that Penang is under pakatan rule which actually makes BN the opposition)

Anwar, on the other hand had this to say, as quoted on Malaysiakini website…

“I must thank him (Najib) for the congratulatory remark. This should be considered as a major lesson that in any election or by-election, all issues (discussed in the campaign) must be on the (political) agenda and issues of politics.

“(They have to) stop the malicious and scurrilous attack or racist remark in the campaign. I thank him for his kind word and I would ask us – both BN and PKR – to move forward and discuss on the national reform agenda,”
Can you see the huge difference in the tone of their statements ?

On DPM Najib’s Statement that he will conduct a post mortem to determine BN losses as it is too early to tell, let me just say that there was no way
in hades BN could have won this by-election. However the following are the 7 factors many ordinary citizens like me feel could have prevented BN from even
    reducing PKR’s majority :-

    1) Racist style of campaigning notably – using Arif’s ability to converse in chinese dialects and Arif distastefully declaring himself the monkey God, insultingly offering scrap metal dealership to Indian constituents, using Lee Chong Wei as an example that the government does not discriminate against the chinese in sport and scaring the Malays that Anwar would sell out their rights. While BN leadership(esp UMNO leaders) did not rebuke those who made derogatory remarks like ” babi balik cina”, the infamous “Indian Snake”remark by Hamidah Osman in parliament and the recent racist remaks against Indian students by a teacher.

    2) Bringing in so called big guns that are disliked by the people like Wira Ali Rustam, Khairy and Samy Velu.

    3) Questionable coincidences – Anwar being charged shortly after he announces his decision to contest,
Saiful swearing on the Quran and the MSM carrying it as headline news 1 day before nomination, Lee Chong Wei
“coincidentally” posing with Arif Shah agaist the backdrop of election banners.

    4) Nallakaruppan & Ezam – one bragged he has 5 recordings and the other has 6 boxes full of evidence, neither produced any
evidence but they went ahead with their smear campaign against Anwar anyway.

    5) Saiful & the sodomy smear campaign- the voters not to mention the whole nation disgusted with his actions
that were aired over and over again over primetime TV, the footage was played over and over again at Permatang Pauh
at BN ceramahs, not to mention well known personalities taking distateful potshots and challenging Anwar to swear on the
Quran as well when he has stated time and again his reason for not doing so.
This was done despite opinion polls from merdeka center clearly indicating that most people did not belive the allegations.

    6) Offering development funds-This is especially insulting after the Federal Government drastically cut funding to Penang despite
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s many appeals, after the Federal government reneged on its pledges after GE12 and not rebuking
certain Penang Umno factions for asking the Government to punish the voters, as they say silence is often taken as a sign of
complicity, thus this campaign strategy backfired.

    7) Campaign drive – While Anwar campaigned on grounds of justice , equality and an end to corrupt practices, the BN campaign
was largely seen as a “smear Anwar campaign”.

Najib was also quoted on UMNO’s website saying ” The sodomy issue is more relevant at the national level but not in Permatang Pauh”.
Is he trying to say that the issue did not have the desired effect in the by-election, thereby admitting culpability to dirty politicking ?-while also infering that
Anwars national image linked to the scandal will prevent him from forming the federal government ?

Nothing can be further than the truth.
Permatang Pauh with 70% Malay, 25% Chinese and 6% Indian ethnic makeup almost mimics macro ethnic national make up.
I am willing to wager that if snap polls are called tommorow the BN government will collapse like a house of cards.

The real fear is not Anwar changing the government via crossovers of BN Mp’s, the real worry is UMNO playing racist politics to the hilt
when they are out of power, as they have shown time and again to be sore losers.

My appeal to all citizens is not to become pawns of politicians who lack talent but make up for it by stoking dangerous racist sentiments.

We the honest Bangsa Malaysia have suffered enough and it is time to kick their butts and kick them hard and kick them out so that we can have a peaceful, progressive and beneficial nation for our future generations. BN was wiped out from the earth in PP, because of its sheer arrogance and taking the rakyat’s intelligence for granted. It could have worked 20 or 30 years ago. But not today, and as a Malaysian, I am proud and honoured for the people of PP. Nevermind, if its the hometown of DSAI, but the rakyat had spoken.

Ironically, we noticed that BN leaders (MPs) had toned down, when asked about the prospect of DSAI entering into Parliament today. Some of the most vicious MPs before this, are now passing good remarks about DSAI entering the House. Emmm…I smell a rat here…

  108. TRaj Tan Says:

Its sad to note that once I grew up not knowing that im different and my friends who slept and ate on the same plate are now considered 3 diff races….. we never felt it though…..

Pls stop the racism thing..pls change the Government…and focus on bangsa malaysia…. We are all born here and we are all Bumiputras…..We are Malaysia..
    Stop all this BN thing….

PKR our only Hope – pls make the changes and do not make the same mistakes like BN…
    Happy Merdeka!

  109. fletchsoo Says:

At long last there is hope and light at the dark tunnel run by the BN. I wish all malaysian would realise we are together to change for the best for malaysia and our future generation. Let set our race and religion differences aside and achieve a true multi racial society where everybody are wanted and appreciated as brother and sister.

  110. BobSam Says:

Congratulations on a very good write-up.

A bit concerned on people’s expectations. The road forward is going to be tough, its not goin to be a superhighway, but more an estate road which we can use for “rallying”. There will be punctures, break-downs, engine failures, etc., but with perseverance, we, the Rakyat will make it through.

I look forward to a new coalition “UNITY” government by Malaysia Day comprising existing PR, some frogs, and some frogs from existing BN who will remain with the BN component parties.

  111. BobSam Says:

I m very concerned about something else.

The assault on Gobalakrishnan & his two sons AS WELL AS THE ASSAULT on his wife when all she asked was why is my husband being arrested? The assault on this family was witnessed by the Press & by supporters of PKR/PR. Multiple police reports should be filed, and lawyers (and the Bar Council) should be making noise at every police station.

The Police are meant to be our Protectors & Friends. Why are they not living up to that EXPECTATION?

How do we put the fear of God into the Police to make them remember that WE, the Rakyat are their employers. Not UMNO. Any other untoward behaviour will not be tolerated. This message has to be imparted clearly to the Police.

How do we go about doing it without getting the cops upset that a coup or something is goin on?

  112. sheetal Says:

    Dear Haris

    Well said.

Najib is now probably plotting and scheming what else he can do to get rid of Anwar, but no matter what, he will not succeed as the rakyat is to smart to fall for his dirty tricks.

  113. Jeffrey Says:

You made me shed tears of joy to hear you willingly, of your own free will, without any hidden agenda, call Indian, Chinese and all other races your brother. It’s people like you who give us hope when we feel hopeless. Thank you my brother, my friend.

  114. mary Says:

What a superb letter. Hopefully the airhead can get the message. This is what we call truly Malaysian. Good on you Haris!!

  115. Razali Says:

The more the UMNO leaders persecute Anwar, the more the people will turn in revulsion against them, and the more surely will they ensure their own demise.

  116. Razali Says:

Correction: … the more surely will they hasten their own demise.

  118. george Says:

I’ve decided not to fly the National flag starting this very moment, not for being not loyal to my country where I was born.(Negaraku…tanah tumpahnya darahku…)

As long as my most beloved nation not free from the evil BN government… I swear that I never will do it… take my words,… I urge my fellow bro and sis to do so…

    It’s just too pathetic to do so… don’t u think so? (rakyat hidup…. :( …)

  119. Laxamana Says:

Congratulations DSAI on your recent thumping victory in PP. This mighty feat was made possible by the sacrifice of his wife Datin Azizah. Against the backdrop of the political scenario in this great country of ours, her undying support for her husband moved me to tears. Syabas Datin. May God bless you abundantly.

  120. [...] Haris Ibrahim, in his blog yesterday wrote: In your sheer arrogance, … you [Najib] and your friends refused to see and acknowledge the degradation into which you have all fallen … [...]

  121. Larry Says:

They the BN just don’t get it at all!

  122. lilian Says:

Well said but I doubt whether Najib (and his cronies) will ever get the message from the RAKYAT. I hope the day when Pakatan Rakyat takes over as the Federal Govt, those BN cronies will sink quietly away with diginity (like the captain in Titanic) and not pull the country into chaos.

  123. Eskay Says:

    VERY WELL SAID Bro. Haris,
    Every sentence and every paragraph.
    Very straight to the point.

  124. TJ Says:

Haris, that despicable DNA bill has passed 2nd reading. What can People Parliament do to address this gross abuse of Parliamentary process?

I can just see the plot. Soon, DSAI will end up in jail, again.

What can the rakyat do to prevent this???

  125. mike5553 Says:

What more is there to say! TO DSAI- I CAME, I CONTESTED,
    AND I WON!!!!

  126. joeawk Says:

Let there be no let up until Malaysians achieve true independence and that is the annihilation of UMNO. Until then, the celebration on August 31 have little meaning as it is like from the frying pan into the fire.

If I have a choice, I would rather remain under British rather than the abominable, racist, discriminative, manipulative and corrupt UMNO.

Enough is enough, let there be change.

In my opinion Malaysia did not achieve true merdeka yet….we are still bounded by out-of-date racial laws in many aspects which degrade the country..True merdeka isnt just being free from “penjajah asing” it is also being free from our own discriminative laws and people. Malaysia….please unite as one

  131. Bujang Says:

After all the mistrust, hatred and twisted mindsets implanted by the Mamak for over 25 years, you think it is easy to wrestle back the lost values we had before?
Expose the evil Kutty fist and convict him teaching the perverted thoughts to the citizens and stealing the nation blind!
You still pay for the high charges of electricity and shadily agreed toll charges, + …….
Dig out the rotten and diseased roots. He had preached that himself. So why we should not do it?????
When this happen, it will instill fear to the wicked UMNO’s hearts and CM Sarawak would shit in his pant too.
Start on the right path and march with it.
