Sin Chew reporter Tan Hoon Cheng has been arrested today under the Internal Security Act at 8.30pm at her home in Bukit Mertajam, Penang – Malaysiakini reports today

Just finished discussing with a team of lawyers and I can report to you that a writ of habeas corpus application is being attended to.
Also, I was informed a while ago that SUARAM and GMI are initiating a candlelight vigil outside Bukit Aman tomorrow. Time 8.30pm.
Will let you have more details of the same when I receive them.
People, RPK has at all times shown great courage and fortitude in facing the challenges that have been thrown his way during these troubling times.
We must do the same now.

I can’t decide if those in power are stupid or trully intelligent. It does seem that they are out to push us, the rakyat, to the limit. They know we’ve been waiting for Sept 16, we’re all excited about the potential change. There is no turning back now, so I suppose the only guaranteed way to gain control will be through an excuse of emergency rule?

Apakah tidak mungkin Syed Hamid Albar, selaku Menteri Dalam Negari dan Dato’ Seri Abdullah Badawi selaku Perdana Menteri segaja meluluskan penahanan ini demi kepentingan politik peribadinya serta parti yang mereka naungi? Dan untuk rekod, Syed Hamid Albar adalah antara pemimpin UMNO yang dibenci oleh ramai ahli UMNO dan dihina oleh rakyat kerana sikap beliau yang tidak bermoral.

Muhammad bin Muhammad Taib, menipu Sultan dan rakyat, bukan menghina Islam kah itu namanya?
Dato’ Mohd Zin Mohamad, Menteri Kerja Raya yang menggunakan kenderaan kementerian untuk urusan peribadi isteri-isteri dan keluarganya, bukan menghina Islam kah namanya? Sikap sombong dan bongkak yang diamalkan Dato’ Mohd Zin terhadap kakitangan KKR dan penduduk tempatan, apakah itu ajaran Islam?
Amalan rasuah dan salahguna kuasa yang berleluasa dikalangan pemimpin UMNO dan kerajaan, apakah itu tidak menghina Islam?

I have never felt so much pain in my heart, it feels like it is bleeding inside. Brave and honest people like RPK and Tan Hoon Cheng become victims of a desperate and cruel government terrified of losing power.
I now take comfort in the fact that the good will prevail. With strength and patience, and an unwavering spirit to fight for justice, we will stand firm beyond RPK, Tan Hoon Cheng and others who suffer the same fate.

I wasn’t not surprised to hear that RPK was arrested as they have been threatening to do this for weeks now, but what reason do they have to arrest the reporter under ISA? Just for reporting that garbage which that Ahmad fler spewed from his frothing lips? That this Ahmad fler walks away unscathed with a slap on the wrist while she gets hauled away to an unknown destination where it’s almost certain a very unpleasant situation awaits her – it’s stupidity at its worst! BN took one small step forward with Ahmad’s suspension and now they have taken three steps back. Stupid stupid stupid!

The use of ISA only hardens the rakyat’s little faith of what’s left for the administration of AAB.
The originator of the racial incident gets a suspension while the reporter of a factual situation is held under ISA
I can see us any better than Zimbawe
This is absurdity of the current administration beyond redemption.
As for RPK, the police has interogated him numerous occasions, assuming finding nothing much they can do to charge him they now use ISA.
AAB has clearly and loudly said ISA will not be used, can you believe him after countless flip flops.
Any strand of faith i have in BN is now washed away forever.

Teresa Kok detained under ISA as well
She was believed to have been detained at 11.18pm.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng speaking at a press conference has described it as a “travesty of justice” and “a mockery of democracy”. There appears to be a massive crackdown to prevent 916 from happening, he observed.
Gerakan leader Teng Hock Nan is leading a candlelight vigil with about 20 Gerakan activists while human rights activists are also holding a vigil.
A crowd of about 200 people are now gathered at the police station in Penang. Some are milling around, some are singing “Suara Rakyat”.

Situation in Bukit Mertajam is quite tense. Just came back from BM police station. Received call from friend that people in Raja Uda, Butterworth (Chinese area) are extremely angry. Went to the Berapit Kampung Baru to see a friend and he informed me that the mood is the same. They know where to push the people to make them angry. Please help put up a post to calm down the people as Malaysia Today, People’s Parliament and Malaysiakini has the widest coverage. I just don’t want the people to walk into the trap they have set.

I want to know if strike is a good way to send clear message to government. For example, all lawyers stopped working on some days onward, probably only work on abolishing ISA and nothing else. Then follow by other industry to stop working (factory workers, may be). Not working by staying home, is peaceful. Is this a good option?

I would like to call upon all Malaysians to do these:
1. Remain calm
2. Do not do anything rash
3. Do not take to the street
4. Do not be instigated by people to demonstrate
5. Just voice it out in your blog, your comments to the blogs, and inform your friends and relatives about the situation
6. Call your Aduns or MPs and voice out your objection about these arrests and urge your representatives to voice out
7. Members of political parties, sms your leaders to pressure them to voice out
We shall object to these draconian acts by using civility and do not fall into the traps of giving the big brother a chance to declare emergency rule……

What has happened smells very familiar… It smells like the work of someone who has done it many times before. Someone who has plenty to gain and nothing to loose… In fact it stinks of TDM’s handywork to discredit Badawi. “Shit Head”-mid may have already been recruited by TDM to sabotage Badawi’s weakening administration. Ahmad Ismail’s racial spat with Gerakan and BN sets the right climate for TDM to exploit the rakyat’s anger and channel it to Badawi. My God, I hope he is awake to realize what is happening now.
The “war” has already begun. TDM’s group is burning the ‘house’ down and won’t care the fire is going to destroy the home and kill some of its inhabitants. We MUST reject all UMNO politicians no matter which side they are on. They care for no one but themselves.
Yes protest if we must! Send protest notes to all the BN component parties and get them to abandon BN *NOW*! Let TDM and Badawi fight between themselves. They should NOT involve the rest of the country in their tussle to lead a dying dynasty. REJECT UMNO!!!

I spoke to Haris on his cellphone about an hour ago and he told me that he was next on the list and that he would be calling me back from another cellphone. However, I’ve not heard from him just as yet…I’m not too sure if he has been picked up but I will check with him later.

STAY CALM. Please don’t fall their TRAP
The people that the Government are arresting are the people targeted to get maximum provocation. As Viveg said, BM Chinese populace are getting angry. Teresa is a popular MP and I am sure that she was targeted to get maximum racial reaction especially from the Chinese. RPK is without doubt their biggest draw card followed by Haris and few others. I will bet Din Merican will also follow suit. I wonder if they will start with all the politicians from the Opposition.
THEY WANT TO DECLARE A STATE OF EMERGENCY. DON”T GIVE THEM THE SATISFACTION. STAY HOME.
The ISA is against the Malaysian Constitution. Start a Rakyat legal class action against the Government. All you “good” lawyers out there, do the right thing. If you can get 25K people to sign the petition, then you can get 25K to start this class action.
I can’t sign the petition as it requires a Malaysia IC but I can contribute financially towards this class action.
