Sunday, 23rd November : PJ Anti-ISA vigil
November 21, 2008
Update for those arrested on 9th November : Ashok has informed me that he spoke to the investigating officer and was advised to go to the PJ police station on Monday, 24th November. And that is what Ashok is going to do. You all should do likewise.
_______________________________________________________
Urgent Alert : Those who were arrested on 9th November, 2008 and are now included in the e-group created to enable dissemination of information between yourselves, Ashok has sent an e-mail to the e-group regarding the return date of 24th November, 2008 indorsed on the notices issued to all of you by the police. Please check your e-mail.

Spoke to PJ city councillor Richard Yeoh a little while ago.
He’s asked me to request that vigilers :
- not throw cigarette butts at the vigil grounds ( I plead guilty. Will bring my own ‘ashtray’ from now on )
- avoid spilling wax from melting candles onto the tarmac.
Puan Norlaila Othman,
wife of one of the longest-serving ISA detainees, Mat Shah Mohd Satray, who was arrested on 18th April, 2002 and has been in detention since then, will join us at the vigil this Sunday.
As she will have to also attend the GMI sponsored Anti-ISA ceramah at Ampang on the same evening a little later, she will be at the PJ vigil site at sharp 8pm to share with us first-hand the painful experience she and her children have endured these last six years whilst Mat Shah has been in detention. I urge you all to be early.
delCapo and I will head out for the Ampang Anti-ISA ceramah after we close the PJ vigil. Glad to have anyone else join us.
Also, look out for a later alert whether those who were arrested on 9th November will be charged this coming Monday, 24th November, 2008. I am presently waiting for information and will keep all of you updated as and when information is received, if at all.
If this is in fact so, it would be good if you could be there to show solidarity for anak-anak Bangsa Malaysia who have stepped out to be counted in this struggle to put down an evil law.
Finally, why is Ng Keat Seng in detention in Kamunting since 30th November, 2006 2008?
Aliran lists his detention as founded on an allegation of document falsification.
If we have the time this Sunday, maybe we can talk about Keat Seng’s detention.
See you all this Sunday. Don’t forget to bring family and friends.

hi haris,
as we are gathering for a good course, perhaps we can also do good for our health.
I have been noticing many times actually that many are smoking …emm.. sorry do not mean to offend you.. in public places..including during candle vigil..
I think many non smokers would be very appreciative if there is no smoking during that time…there are many children too.
Thanks, see u guys

from NSTOnline
:
Police have rejected an application for permit by PAS Youth to hold a public talk at the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) field this Sunday because it is an open area.
Ampang Jaya police chief ACP Abd Jalil Hassan said the public talk “Abolish ISA” could disturb public order and cause congestion in the surroundings areas.
He said the application was made by Pandan PAS Youth secretary Nik Mohd Rasyid Nik Mohd Yusoff on Nov 17.
“We met and discussed the matter with the organisers at 10am today at Ampang Jaya police headquarters and advised them to hold the talk at enclosed venues.
“After studying the application and listening to complaints from the public, we have decided not to approve the permit,” he said.
Abd Jalil urged the public not to attend the talk at the field as no permits had been issued, making it unlawful.
“If the talk is held at the said place and attended by the public, then legal action will be taken against them,” he said.

BE ON COURSE FOR CAUSE
When you are fighting for a worthy cause
You must be prepared not to count the cost
So that you’ll stay in focus and not be lost
You only need to have patience to stay on course

If you’re taking LRT to get to the MBPJ (Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya) vigil, get off at Asia Jaya Putra LRT station. If you know the way, you can take a 15 minute walk to MBPJ. Alternatively, you can catch the T629 shuttle bus which will pass Jalan Yong Shook Lin, where the MBPJ is situated. Just ask the bus pilot to stop you at MBPJ.
God bless and stay safe. See you all there!

No candles? No problem:

Haris, this is a long time coming, but I finally uploaded a video of your speech during the Memorandum Demanding the Abolition of the ISA about a month ago. Link is HERE. My friend videotaped and edited it.
Was a good speech.
