many-colours-11Malaysiakini reports that PPP president Kayveas has issued an ultimatum that unless the ISA is amended before the next general elections, PPP will pull out of BN.

It seems that the PPP youth and wanita wings want the ISA repealed, but the president has urged that the party adopt a ‘halfway’ approach and settle for an amendment instead.

On the other hand, PPP Youth leader Murugiah said that the party does not support the use of the ISA against the citizens of Malaysia.

Whilst I will applaud PPP for finally taking a firm stand on the ISA, I ask Kayveas and the rest of his party leaders to consider the following.

The present BN government is not obliged to call for the next general elections until 2013.

Meanwhile, there are about 70 persons detained under the ISA at Kamunting without being charged or subject to a trial.

Are they to wait until 2013 or whenever BN decides to call the next GE before you decide that it is time to get out of BN and join the rest of the nation?

And why amend the ISA?

Why not repeal the ISA and, if a preventive detention law is felt to be necessary, put in place a new, well-thought out legislation that makes provision for the most comprehensive and stringent checks and balances to ensure that such a law is never to be abused by any future government?

I would say that it’s good that *some* component parties within BN are finally coming to their senses about the ISA. But I think to stop at merely asking for the amendment before the next GE is not enough. They should take this opportunity to really push forward for change, and asap. Not give them another 4 years.

That said, I’m nowhere near hopeful that this demand by PPP would have any effect on the BN govt. Let’s hope they prove me wrong.

    Haris,
He’s just a fool trying to show his relevance in the new political climate. He knows that he has nowhere to go – he & PPP are worse of than the “servants” in the BN fold!
This guy is prolly still in denial – Ali Rustam told him long ago that he & PPP isn’t wanted in BN!! He’s been kicked before, and doesn’t seem to mind it at all.
That too especially now when they don’t have any seats to speak of in parliament!!

Does he think that he has more voice than MCA/ Soi Lek/ Tsu Koon who have been told to leave the coalition by none other than Mr. Chris himself?
These guys should have an Olympiad for shamelessness – they’ll surely come up tops ….

  3. cruzeiro Says:

BTW Michelle – there is no way in heaven or hell that they will repeal ISA.
It is the one most vital piece of legislation that keeps them in power, and they know it.

Umno IS ISA, & ISA Is Umno!!
It is the “mummy’s skirt” for them!
No matter what they say, without it Umno is history – Kaput, Finito, Zilch, Nada etc etc
The only way it can be repealed, is through the demise of Umno.

PPPA, OSA, UUCA are the “supporting actors” ……

  4. navinda Says:

    Haris,
Kayveas cannot envisage Malaysia without the ISA and hence his call for amendments. Is he trying to appease his bosses from UMNO hence his compromising the call by the youths. He doesn’t have the decency to push for the complete abolishment of the ISA.
As you have explictively asked, ‘Do we have to wait until the next election?’. The draconion ISA has to go now.
While Kayveas has made a demand, MCA, MIC and Gerakan are rather quiet on the issue. Aren’t they interested in establishing Human Rights?

  5. knights Says:

Bro, Kayveas is a WASTE of time …and you writing what he said is another WASTE of your time.

  6. asiseesit Says:

Whether the ISA seriously needs to be reviewed, amend or totally repeal. I would go for repeal.

With more and more of our rakyat getting more informed and educated about world and national affairs, knowing what is just and right, our government are unable to handle criticism or tolerate even the slightest comment about their misgivings.

I returned from NZ a couple of months ago and the media agencies there goes out to the streets to get people feedbacks on any government policies to be implemented. Reporters will conclude their findings from all these and the government will evaluate these comments and sentiments.

Here, we only get so-called selected expert advise who are also pro-government. The man in the street or the general population perception are never sought out even by the media.

So they just shaft it to us rakyat and expect us to accept anything and everything they put under the sun.

The only means now is for our opposition to raise matters in parliament so that critical facts and information from individual that put the government in a bad state do not get ISAed.

Instead of investigating further on allegations to determined the authenticities of informations, people get detent to prevent them from further telling the truth.

  7. Brian Says:

No point blowing steam now when the party is virtually nonexistent. It’s the MCA or even the MIC that need to make such a stand. This however will never happen because both these parties are a..e lickers of umno. Possibilities of them making a stand will be only when they become a nonexistent party like the ppp. Kayveas did squat when the Malacca ‘mamak’ told ppp off,you should have made a stand then, it might have shown some credibility on the part of ppp.

  8. nspirasi Says:

its mere posturing to show his supporters that he is doing something useful…

these guys have no intention to push for anything that will stick their numbskulls above the parapet…to get shot at…

many/most of the BN component parties r on the BN gravy train to suck the lifeblood out of the nation…to satisfy their own greed and hunger for illicit power…

knights is right…wht waste time on the empty frivolity of irrelevant politicians!!!!

theres so much more that we can focus on…like getting the UMNO out of govt!!!!

  9. Parli-Man Says:

    Dear Haris,

Kayveas is a product of our extinct dinasaur politics.
He thinks he is trying to be smart by giving smart remarks, however we all know better.

Kayveas don’t try to be on the fence and trying to look dignified because your utterings sound pathetic !

  10. telur dua Says:

PPP and Kayveas have no seats or posts. Its like gambling with no money in the pocket, nothing to lose.

There is no need for ultimatums, just get out of BN now. I like to remind Kayveas that there is such a thing called pride.

  11. sinnerconman Says:

BEEN politicians are good at telling lies. First it was GERACANN, then EMCEEAAA and now PEEPEEPEE talk about amending ISA but when they were approached to sign a petition to pass a motion to debate ISA in parliament, they were so scare of their UMMNOO master giving one excuse and another pulling their tails between their legs. They only talk to mislead everyone and at the same time thinking how to steal and bankrupt the country to fatten their bank account. Vote them out on GE13. Let us unite and we will surely succeed. Three cheers to the people.

  12. matt Says:

Leeches will be leeches and this monkey stands as a top 20 leech in Malaysian politics after all everyone knows how he got ppp which is today a non issue.

  13. Musa susah Says:

If keyveas did not understand what Ali Rustam said to him and his party members then he will never understand anything else that’s said to him. Sorry lah you Nayi.

  14. Klaw Says:

For one thing, I am glad that Kayveas has spoken up. Of course, what remains to be seen is whether the money will be put where the mouth is.

  15. Paul Warren Says:

I have to agree with Knigts.

By having a posting on Kayveas’ statement on ISA, it only gives him recognition. Recognition that he exists. This posting, to Kayveas, only adds to his prestige, if there is any, and he is going to certainly claim it too. ..just imagine, a posting on him at People’s Parliament!!

Otherwise, what he is really saying is, just like you said it up there, it is quite alright with him if the 70 odd people continue to remain incarcerated under ISA.

All that is important is that he not be forgotten for being picked to be a candidate, as remaining in BN otherwise, makes him only become the fool that he really is.

  16. drago Says:

Okay, Kayveas and his party exist. Since he has opened his mouth on the ISA, what’s the point of him waiting for a final decision come near the next elections? Quit BN now and proves he walks the talk. Otherwise it’s just utterances blowing in the wind.

  17. bangsa Cina Malaysia Says:

    PPP is not worth mentioning.

  18. zulkifli abdullah Says:

Hello Mr. Keveas first you said repealed the ISA then you say amend the ISA and who knows in another month’s time you may say we need the ISA.
    Now which is which.
You see readers this is what is wrong with or modern day politicians.
They cannot be trusted. I really don’t know who they represent the party or themselves.(unless they have ulterior motives). Maybe after BN dangle a “king size” carrot in front of them. Comes the 2013 election the PPP president Mr.Kayveas will turn around and say we support the ISA as it is very neccessary for the nations security dah!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is what will happen in the land of boleh.

  19. malayamuda Says:

other BN parties should support one another against the tyranny and bullying of UMNO.

UMNO is nothing without its components in BN !!!
