A tale of two jetties

Well, actually, one ‘about to fall apart’ jetty and a spanking new marina, both at Pulau Duyong, now famed for the Monsoon Cup.

First, though, a slight digression.

As we made our way out to Pulau Duyong this morning, we had to pass the Crsytal Mosque again.

These photos, I think, will illustrate what I had posted earlier.

At Pulau Duyong, enroute to the Rya Heritage Spa & Resort that houses the Heritage Bay Marina that is the site for the Monsoon Cup, we came upon a fishing village. There has been no fishing there  for the last 7 days as the sea conditions have not been kind.

This is Pak Daud. Has 4 kids. Says he;s lucky if he can earn RM100 a day from fishing. Asked how he copes when he can't fish, he shrugged his shoulders.

And, now, to Heritage Marina Bay.

Haris, you are not just our voice, but very much our eyes and ears. Thanks God,our coutry have sons like you and RPK[True mukmim]

  2. TheWrathOfGrapes Says:

The phrase “stark contrast” must have been invented for situations such as these. You should juxtapose the two jetties in the same picture. And juxtapose the houses of the two VIPs — Very Influential People vs Very Impoverished People.

    RES IPSA LIQUITOR..

but some have been blind and deaf for so long that they are comfortable being so…

  4. Chris Loo Says:

How one can live with a clear conscience at the extreme disparity of the have-nots and the have-alls is beyond comprehension! This will sow the start of a “French-type” revolution from the mass of deprived population, and if BN were to extol “let them eat cakes”, and close their eyes to the plight of the poor (irrespective of race), then I see the end of the present govt is near.

  5. dnair Says:

You guys are really doing a great service for the rakyat who’ve been blind to all the corruption that goes around. For that, we are sincerely grateful. Thanks, Harris & RPK.

  6. telanbara Says:

Haris, I like photography myself, can I help you out ? Together we can expose to the people what life is really all about under the present government.

  7. foodforthought Says:

A picture speaks a thousand words. Your 22 photos speak two. VOTE PAS/PR.

  8. Jimmy Loong Says:

Do not complain, it is the decision of the “rakyat” unless there were cheating in the election. It is so easy to cheat in the Malaysian way of election, especially the postal votes from the army and police. After their postal voting, please check again whether their names still appear on the list of all the voting center as their ICs are easily available. You should know what I mean!!!
Look at Taiwan and learn from them even their X President Chen ShuiPian will be charged for corruption and abused of power during his tenure of eight years. Tell this to the KT Chinese, they will give their votes to PKR because they want to see the truth in Malaysia also.

  9. kittykat46 Says:

The extreme contrast is the end result of five decades of unaccountable government. After all, before March 8, 2008, most of us just crossed “Dacing” as an automatic default.

What more to say, except to the people of Kuala Terrenganu, “Vote Wisely”.

  10. Parli-Man Says:

    Dear Haris,

TQ for highlighting this with evidence. I must confess that I have heard about this but was ignorant until your photos were posted. Great work man keep it up we shall do the rest by spreading the word around in the usual manner ie emails, word of mouth ,sms’es etc

  11. SAJ Says:

    Hi Haris,

You should take-up photo-journalism as a second career!
    Brilliant story.

Hope the ABM Gang is holding-up well?
All the Very Best for 17th.
Waiting to celebrate ‘victory’at the vigil on 18th.
    Cheers

  12. nora abdullah Says:

the irony is that the ppl who are living in the houses on the stilts and some of those playing “dam” are voting for the BN for the sake of “mengenang jasa”… What jasa? it is for the subsidised fuel, or the monthly allowance of RM200 or the 10pcs of zinc roof, or the year-end RM200 allowance for anak sekolah or… (i think u got the train…)

  13. Chan Ching Says:

    Hi voters of KT,
Hope all of you wake up!!!

  14. What a staggering sight & what a photographic masterpiece worthy of critical acclaim of the highest order in the centerspread of the coming issue of International Geographic.

    Terengganu Boleh !

  15. delcapo Says:

delCapo’s sick to the core reading about such blatant injustice.
Najib claimed BN is the servant to the people…. my ass!!!

anyone printing these pix into posters & distributing them in KT??…

  16. dragon Says:

I persumed that the state work director made his money during the previous Minister of Work.(DSSS). How can this people live happily in that big house when rest of the poor people in KT don t have proper roof over their head. This shows that there is no such things as heaven or hell for this people to swindle and live happily.

  17. amoker Says:

    Rich and the poor

  18. queenie Says:

kt natives would know what’s happening in their backyards, or have they become immune to the contrast between excesses and deprivation? it would be so sad if the stark contrast has become a blind spot. please remind them sam!

  19. farida Says:

The poor Malays in this country are not bumiputras.

The Chinese, Indians, Ibans, Kadazans, Muruts, Orang Asli, Punjabis, Eurasians etc. are not bumiputras.

I refuse to see myself as a bumiputra. I am Anak Bangsa Malaysia, period.

So who are the bumiputras? Very simple.

The measuring rod is wealth and how craftily it was derived. The bumiputras in this country are none other than UMNO, MCA, MIC and their other parties.

It’s not about race. It’s not about religion. Those are just smokescreens. It’s about getting filthy rich the filthy way. And these bumiputras have done everything and will do anything to preserve power. And I guess their children will, too, if they are cut from the same cloth!

Sons of the soil? Sins of the soiled, I would say.

  20. klmnopq Says:

The BN State govt forgot to do something. It should have build fences around the falling apart jetty and fishing villages. Then no one will know.

One tin pot dictator once put fences around the slum areas of his capital city to hide them from visitors. BN is not as smart.

  21. shar101 Says:

    Farida,

Perhaps, there should be another citizenship category – kayaputras.

UMNO’s raison d’etre has always been – give them the power to provide development to the masses by channeling every single national resource through their grubby hands. Throw in mind control via the BTN and MSM, plus a variety of tweakings on the Federal Constitution and voila, 51 years of servitude to the home grown colonialists.

Heck, they might even call their perpetual solution as “The Brown Man’s Burden”.

When the monsoon has washed away the soiled sons, we are indeed ‘Many Colors’ awaiting for the Rainbow to appear.

  22. HarbX Says:

I really hope that the citizens of KT will be able to vote out BN this weekend for their own sake. It is high time for a change.

I remember when Malaysia hosted the PATA conference many years ago, fresh-looking boards were raised in front of the Mall and all along the route to the PWTC to hide the squatters from the view of PATA delegates arriving at PWTC for the conference.

    What a lovely thought.

  24. mauryaII Says:

    Farida,

If only like-minded Anak Bangsa Malaysia disseminate and empower the masses what you boldy espoused, then BN would be history in the 13th GE.

  25. keanu Says:

This picture alone can decide my vote, a good one brother

  26. nspirasi Says:

hey farida…perhaps…’sons of the night soil’… is an apt title for these evil ones!!!
