My dear friend, Goh Keat Peng, says he will not keep to his seat, or shut his mouth and stay neutral in the face of the bizarre, unexplained circumstances in which the young life of Teo Beng Hock was cruelly snatched. Read his thoughts HERE.

And the rest of us?

Are we capable of going beyond just blogging or commenting in cyberspace?

Or are we without the requisite gumption to rise from our seats and be heard with one voice so that, perchance, we might get to the truth?

  3. Mike Says:

Sadly, I think its going the later. You ask a question to a nation that has rarely questioned those who rule. How else could they have been ruled for 5 centuries.

Few are capable of getting off their seats. Its too comfortable and life is cozy.

Besides, MU is in town. We will talk about all this ‘political’ stuff later. Let the game be over.)

ps. this comment is ‘tongue-in-cheek’..i’m mad as hell for what has happened. Yep…probably 1 of the 1000 or so,..maybe 2.

Yes MCCA is responsible for the person. As a boss, can you allow a worker to go home on his own after 3am in the morning? What happen if one had an accicent on the way home at this hours?
MCCA is nuts to hold one person until this hour and let him go home on his own whereas MCCA enjoys themselves.

When ketuanan Melayu is the only game in town for BN, anything goes…so what if an opposition chappie and a Chinese at that, gets thrown off a building / mentally pressured to jump off …all the better to keep them and the rest in their place. BN and its henchmen’s dirty tricks are so blatant that i am unable to recognise malaysia anymore as it keeps getting to be more and more like Zimbabwe.

what right do we have as a citizen? any government run agencies can take us in, treat us like animal, denied our right…Root caused of all these tragedy…is the sad fact that all of our government officials can interpret law or even make up the own where it served their interest..the reason they became so ignorance and arrogance is because no one seems to be able to touch them..be it some one died in detention, fire arms get stolen from army base…filming naked women in lockup…no one needs to be punished…when those expose it get punished..
even when the state government change hand…the new government can’t laid any finger on them…coz they don’t have the right/power to do so…
who put these in their position?…how you can change this? will this ever happen to you ? who will be there to protect your right? your dignity..your life? i don’t know …but I do know ..I can’t trust any ‘public servant’ in this country…

stood up to fix our system…before your become statistics in their reports..

  21. Ls Says:

    Dear Haris,

When I saw the video of the polis breaking up the rally outside the MACC building in Shah Alam last evening on mkini, what I saw was the face of the devil on the so-called officers (not the ones in uniform, as they look so young and tender) but the ones in plain -clothes dragging and shouting. There is so much hatred in their eyes and expressions, not about peace keeping or crowd controlling, but pure evil and hatred. Watch for yourself. I am scared.

  22. vsp Says:

In the developed countries, scientists have utilized the knowledge of genetics to modify crops and animals. These genetically-modified organisms were initially thought to be beneficial to mankind. But now it has become commonplace that these genetically-modified organisms are potentially dangerous to the environment and to those who consume them. So now there are derogatory terms to describe such genetically-modified organisms as Frankenfoods and Frankenfish.

In Bolehland our politicians have also genetically created a monster. The moribund anti-corruption agency was transformed into a ferocious and violent Commission that everyone at first thought would be good. But hardly a few days of its birth, it has become a Frankenstein monster.

Just like the Frankenfish and Frankenfoods the MACC has now become a FrankenCom. This is a gift from sleepyhead, Abdullah Badawi to the people of Bolehland.

  23. IbnAbdHalim Says:

How to get to MACC when UMNO is around? The real culprit is UMNO. It’s all about politics. Perak has gone down. Next target is Selangor. Kedah is in the making, although they failed initially. Next to watch is Penang. For a while Kelantan is out of the question. That shows how desperate UMNO is. What do we expect from a desperate Prime Minister?

Go all out and campaign for the destruction of UMNO. That’s the only chance.

So what if Teoh is killed? so what if anybody gets killed. so what if the Police and the MACC and the Atorney General are all seen to blatantly act as UMNO’s gangsters? What can anyone do? nothing right! So the game goes on!

  40. David Dass Says:

I am deeply saddenned at the way Teo Beng Hock died.Like many others before him he died whilst in police custody. He was not a suspect. He was a witness. And yet he was interrogated as if he was a hard core criminal.

News of his death came to me as it did to thousands of otheres via my cell phone. I was at a meeting. others received the message at the same time. malays,Chinese and Indians. The reaction was the same. Shock and dismay. One felt a cold chill down his spine.

A young man shortly to be married to a young lady who was expecting his child. Was he a likely candidate for suicide ? He was not a suspect. He was just a witness.

What kind of message will being transmitted across the nation if no decisive action is taken ?

That there are dark forces who will anything to protect vested interests ?

Statements attributed to the interrogators of one other at the same time reflect a very racist aspect to the interrogation. And that re-inforces the suspicion and speculation that something improper had taken place.

The Government and the Police have to respond correctly.

The image of the Government and the Police are at stake. This incident ( and it pains me to describe and generalise the death of Teo Beng Hock in this was ) follows many others.

Are we a nation where the Rule of Law prevails ?

Amidst the sadness and the tears for the tragic and untimely death of this young man there is deep anger in the nation. The emotional fabric of this nation has been torn and scarred. There will be deep distrust for the forces of law and order unless there is a proper and open investigation.

I support the call for a Royal Commission of Enquiry with members nominated from both sides of the political divide.

Justice must be seen to be done.

    Anak Malaysia.

  42. Leithaisor Says:

I posted these comments on Patrick Teoh’s Niamah! earlier this morning, but contrary to accepted Netiquette, allow me to cross-post here:

I was shocked to read in Jeff Ooi’s blog that there is apparently nothing, zilch, elek to govern what the MACC’s officers can do during investigations. No Criminal Procedural Code or its equivalent.

Hence the humungous question which begs to be asked – Just what on earth gave rise to this creation with unfettered might which has been unleashed on the rakyat?

If there is a big stink now surrounding the death of teo, then there must surely be an even bigger stink surrounding those who created the MACC.

Parallel to the fight to seek justice for Teo, those who drafted the laws/Act which gave birth to the MACC must also be investigated to see if there has been any wrongdoing ranging from grave dereliction of duty to blantant criminal abuse of positions.

They must be made to answer for why they did what they did, and questioned at length to ascertain if they knowingly did what they did. Indeed, in they were cognizant of the grave consequences of creating such an infettered beast, the issue of them being punished for doing what they did that must be raised.

At this time it is premature to say conclusively that Teo did not commit suicide (despite the vast amount of material pointing to that being the case) but those who gave birth to the MACC must also ask themselves in the privacy of their own hearts whether they have the blood of Teo on their hands.

And if it needs to be said, then let me say it clearly – Give the MACC the boot NOW!

Is there an avenue that we the people can once again show our strength in unity? The candlelight vigils that we used to have, against ISA, seems to have had some effect becos many were released subsequently. I don’t know if something else can be organised to make our stand against police and MACC brutality.

I am scared to think further……….I strongly felt that it is time for all of us Malaysian to end this government control from this country for once and for all.

  52. vic Says:

Haris, if it is not too much trouble, could you or your friends at the Bar Council find out what is the
rights of a person “invited” by the MACC to help out on some things. Or, is there a charter set by the MACC in regards to “seeking” help or co-operation from us, ordinary folks ?

    Questions like :

    1. Does he get legal council ?
    2. Can he be detained without a court order ?
    3. Is he/she allowed to one phone call.?
    4. Can a lawyer be present at the “interview” ?
    5……..

Anyone cares can add to the questionaire ?

We, ordinary folks , need to know our rights.
Although I am not too optimistic things will change for the better. All these dangerous and deadly charades are political and monetary in nature,
and the stakes are very high. Those involved are playing for keeps.

How could anyone with the slightest conscience and decency not come forth to brave the BN-subservient FRU and police?
We,foursome of the same family, were there to express our outrage at the candle light vigil in Ipoh last night although our passage to MACC Ipoh was blocked by FRU and police. Together we are more than 260 years old but we were bent on walking the distance, both literarily and figuratively.
Hundreds made it there too despite police road blocks at all access roads and the lurking threat of possible battering in the hands of those who were supposed to protect us.
Who trust any of our institutions anymore, particularly the police, MACC and judiciary system? Are there any good men left in these institutions who dare stand up for what is right? How could these people pray five times a day with such blood and corruption taints? There isn’t anything that can ever wash off their sins.
Congratulation Dr. M, you did a great job re-engineering the psyche of your adopted race and destroying the established code and practices of our institutions so as to bend them to your will. Now that they are at rock bottom, bending to every will and fancies of the powers-that-be, you should be ever so proud. You should be so glad you live long enough to enjoy the rotten ‘fruits’ of your connives and manipulation. What precedence you set! You played God far too often and you are still trying. That’s what you get messing with God’s work. You are merely a medical doctor, but you think you know it all. You believe you can twist and manipulate any being to your will. Where is the conscience of your engineered products Dr. M? Where is yours in the first place?

You would have been furious and called the entire police force to hunt the killers and probably jailed many suspects without proper court hearing……..this has nothing to do with race, colour and religion. How about Kugan and Alantuya and many that died in the cells ???
