On 8th July, Malaysiakini reported that a committee of 25, known as the ‘Campaign to Dissolve the Perak State Assembly’ committee, had given an ultimatum to the backdoor BN Perak state government : dissolve the state assembly and call for fresh state elections in a month or face a day-long state-wide strike.
The plan, as I understand it, is that if the dissolution is not announced by 8th August, the committe, which hopes to have the concurrence of the Pakatan Rakyat parties, will declare a date when Perakians will be urged to stay at home and turn Perak into a ‘ghost state’ for one day.
Quoting Mohana Rani, a member of that committee, from the Malaysiakini report :
“We have given the BN state government until Aug 8 to dissolve the assembly and call for fresh elections, failing which we will harness the power of the people for a day-long state-wide strike…The strike will be the springboard for more of people-power actions to force the BN state government to heed the people’s wish…the courts may have determined the political direction and outlook by legalising BN’s rule, but Perakians on the whole are unhappy with the back-door entry of the coalition”.
Malaysianinsider reports today that from 7 o’clock this morning, police had barricaded the entrance to the Perak State Secretariat building.
The object of this police operation, it seems clear, was to prevent a meeting of the state assembly’s Rights and Privileges Committee, which PR claims is still the legal committee, to investigate into a complaint over the “illegal” appointment of BN’s new Speaker Datuk R. Ganesan, getting off the ground.
Looks to me like 8/8/09 will come and go and Zambry’s froggy-infested government will still be in the state driving seat.
So, good people of Perak, what say you?
You unhappy with the state of things?
Want to drive your point home where it hurts most, without exposing yourselves to risk on the streets with demos and what not?
You want your chance to stick two fingers up the nose of Najib’s BN that robbed you of the fruits of your vote last March?
Pakatan Rakyat?
Hartal?

Actually, would the state feel the impact of a hartal held on a Saturday?
TD,
8/8/09 is not hartal day but D-Day, that is, to decide whether to hartal on another date to be fixed

Let’s face it. They don’t two hoots about the state. They just focus on siphoning the state resources, the faster the better, before it falls back into the hand of Perak rakyat. By then, it will be another round of empty state offices. (Don’t we all remember what happened when those BN state govts were caught off guard and had to clear the ‘evidence of their wrong-doings’ hastily?

The things UBN(*) would do to stall the inevitable -
http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/index.php/malaysia/33442-cops-officials-block-pakatan-perak-assembly-inquiry
Ultimately, UBN wants to get back all the ‘liberated’ states because their gravy train has come to an abrupt halt. UMNO Baru’s downliners are starved of rent-seeking projects and their ‘loyalty’ programs are on the skids.

Hartals would have worked in those days, when the people supported socialist ideas and in countries like India where such an idea does gain support. In Malaysia? The hartal would come and go, and only the organisers and some supporters would give a hoot about it.

The best way is to list out in a website all the names and addresses of all those cash-cows operated by BN and supporters ( gambling, entertainment, petrol stations, hamburger outlets, etc, etc) and call upon all the people to avoid them and not to deal with them in any way.
When shit hits their pockets, there will be results.

The message sent(HARTAL) will resonate and whether those in the dubious administration or resident’s of Istana Kinta like it or not.
This prolonged agony has to stop. No matter what Zambry or former ex-LP has to say, it is rightly, the collective voices of the people that surpass any other consideration.
Let the people of Perak decide ooh Almighty Azlan Shah. Take this opportunity to redeem personal honour blemished first time round, having heard the whispers of one Najib Rosak.

Hi James Kim,
There are many ways to excuse yourself from work if you really want to. Calling your boss that you are on your way to the doctor (make sure you really do) as you are not feeling well. Whether you are certified fit to work or not (MC) is another matter; at least an effort is made. If you are certified fit to work, then make your way to the office.
Well, if anyone feel that this idea is not going to take-off, please come forward to lead otherwise the leader needs followers and amongst them, YOU. Sitting down complaining and sulking is not going to take you anywhere. Get up… Walk and make it happen!

Hi Tudung periok,
I would like to send a more powerful message. Asking people not to come out for a day will not have any effect on BN. I hope it is something on a long term basis. RPK started something a few months ago when he asked us to boycott business connected to Vincent Tan. I am still boycotting them until today. I hope many people will follow and not just boycott for a few weeks. Perhaps we can start with Petronas..

Yes, HARTAL!!
My company will be counted. All staffs be given 1 day paid off, but they have to just stay at home. Boycot all business that still operate on that day.
But I think, a Hartal on Monday is much more better, 8 August is a Saturday. Since most of the business already close on Saturday, the State will not really feel the impact of the hartal. Anyway, 8 August (Saturday) will be a good start.

Sorry to say this. I do not agree with what has happened in Perak BUT I will say this. NOTHING WILL HAPPEN on 08.08.09. Nothing as in no one in Perak or Ipoh will really support it. Just the same few will be out doing it, the few hundred. Its time many here stop dreaming, face reality and work on a better future.
The whole Perak debacle is boring now. It only excites some PR ADUNs and diehard supporters. Basically, after speaking to some people in Perak, the average person that is, they are sick of the fighting.
Also like what Johan has stated, on a Saturday? Stupid la … do it on a working day to see the effect. Do it …
I shall Bookmark this page and be back here on 09.08.09 … if I am wrong I shall donate a huge sum to PR in Perak. I am serious.

Think the Petronas petrol station boycott idea, mentioned above by azman, is a good one because it’s easily done and WILL hurt the right pockets, if done for a sufficient period of time by enough Malaysians.
Distributing that list of UMNO/BN-owned businesses is also a good idea that allows you to focus and target them well at your pleasure.
The stay at home one-day Hartal is a powerful idea.
But I am not sure if there will (even now) be enough support for it to make it work and resonate in the way intended. If it fails, that will be a hard defeat to stomach and overcome. Perhaps you can pilot one or two mini-hartal (for say a half-day or a few hours) first before building up to that one full-day mega-hartal?
And if the hartal is going ahead on a weekday, then why can’t employees opt to take a day’s annual leave on that day instead of having to tell dishonourable porkies about it to their employers?

When the Parit Monkey jumped to PKR you guys gave him a HERO WELCOME. Later, when 3 of your baboons abandoned ship plus that Parit Monkey, you cried foul, and pushed Sultan to abolished DUN. How could minority called for DUN abolishment? On top of that, PR speaker suspended the 7 (or 6) proboscis monkey, yet Karpal said it was a stupid move. Did any of you listen to him? Party frogging is ok if UMNO-BN goons joined PR but a BIG NO NO if it is the other way round – forgetting September 16 dream by your MCKK buddies? Come on Harris, what’s with the hypocrisy? Are you forgetting what the Quran says about hypocrisy? Enough is enough Harris. Loose this battle, retreat and strategize for what need to be done in the next GE or better still – serve the rakyat! Stop playing to UMNO-BN tune.

Folks,
I got the first impression that the Perak Hartal was meant to be held on 8th August ’09.
However, Haris’s rejoinder to ‘Taxystand’ earlier on this thread indicates otherwise i.e. 8th Aug is D-Day for a decision to ‘Bubar DUN’ and if it’s not forthcoming, another date will be chosen to implement a statewide Hartal in Perak.
Obviously, the date in question will be decided by the Hartal organisers and being prudent, will be announced at a later.
Meanwhile, I see requests for a concerted form of boycott to supplement the Hartal initiative. Perhaps, this is where the ‘Petronas’ gambit can come in.
In support of our brethren in Perak, the rest of us in other states can boycott Petronas for a prolonged period, if not longer.
Reasons for Petronas national boycott:
a) In memory of Yasmin Ahmad who did those heart-rending adverts for Petronas,
b) For the RM1 billion Kelantan oil royalty still unpaid by the Federal government,
and
c) Petronas contributes up to 40% to the BN coffers annually.

i can see there’s element of HASUTAN in full swing here…hentikan kerja-kerja yang menyusahkan rakyat dan negara. Rakyat just want to move on with life. I can only suggest ISA for Harris…we’ll visit u in Kamunting…
I don’t quite understand the so-called interest of the rakyat in PR. It’s very much the interest as well as the personal pride of Nizar dan two-headed dragon of Nga and Ngeh. The UMNO reps were also chosen rakyat through the same PRU12 dan appointed by the Sultan, and have the majority in the house. So, what’s the hooha about, the interest of the rakyat. Ooo, I see, you’re against the Sultan. Period.

no,i don’t agree with hartal demonstration and no, i dont belongs to any party or government agencies.yes,i aware that power must be handed back to the perakians and yes,malaysian is going trough evil & hopeless age where all our resources been squeeze to nowhere. i suggest the Pakatan Rakyat [PR] form their own KeyPerformanceIndex [KPI] list on the BN government [including its tools like police,judges,public prosecutor,MACC,etc]and also KeyResultsArea [KRA] on the outcome of all the cases being handled for example as we know the Kugan case result so far no answer,the stadium sultan mizan zainal abidin of terengganu inquiries results still no answer,PKFZ case…too many big shots involve like vk linggam case i suppose also no case in the end & eventhought ong tee kiat alleged somebody treaten to kill him,the MACC +the Police will pretend not to hear it . khir toyol bali bangalow no case or action eventhough reported because MACC believe he bought it in rupiah currency ,now the two separate teoh beng hock mysterious death inquiries [i suspect foul play thats why i replace it from sudden death which have no common sense at all] directly involving MACC themself, all the cases which the BN have failed to anwser shall be compiled and distribute free of charge come the next general election. that way rest assured the rakyat will sure know what to do best, you dont worry or do all those temporary non effective incident ok.like me i just take note from linggam case up to petronas questionable figures shortage revenue [even tun dr.M question where are all the shortages gone to?].

From your comments here and elsewhere in other TPP postings, you’re neither there nor here.

In other words, no ‘original thinking’ to propose an alternative solution to a predicament.

shar101 … walk what talk, you can only say that about me if I opened my mouth asking for people to do something and I do not. Please remind me how I have failed?
My stand is simple. The HARTAL is a good way to show the Rakyat’s displeasure BUT:
1. hardly anyone will do it (how many were at the State Assembly Sitting, even DSAI DID NOT GO);
2. it will give cause to BN to label PR as SABOTEURS;
3. it will give BN cause to jail more ADUNs (what good is an ADUN who sits in jail?);
My answer to Perak is simple:
1. work with the people now with what you have, gain their thrust. Their thrust is their vote for PR;
2. plan now for GE13 (yes take those BN buggers to court in the meantime), so that there will be a resounding victory; and
3. PR MUST ADMIT the takeover was their FAULT, they started the war and they had 3 lousy ADUNs, admit and learn from it.
We SPEAKUP for what is RIGHT, not with hatred or bias. Many great politicians have shown this … Gandhi, Mandela etc.
Unfortunately, none from PR understand this. Fight fight fight fight … comes out of their mouths. This fighting gives BN more reason to clam down on the politics.
How many people come out to demonstrate anymore, sorry la, REFORMASI days are over. No more … DSAI is a dreamer.
Only person I find can speak well is LGE, KuLi and perhaps Zaid Ibrahim (if he does not get influenced and used by DSAI).
That is my stand and it was clearly stated at the start of this thread. Do not fight the system, learn to overcome it or work around it or with it to your advantage.
Now shari … may I have your proposal to the predicament? Show me a better way and enlighten me if I am wrong. I would be delighted to know if I am mistaken … we are not perfect.
