Forget the Islamic religious councils, departments and agencies, both federal and states.
We know where they stand on this issue.
In this regard, we can at least be thankful that the largest Islamic body in this country, albeit a political one, PAS, is firmly behind ABU.
What of the religious leaders of the other faiths?
What of the Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST)?
Are they for ABU or for UMNO dulu, kini dan selama2nya?
Now, before anyone volunteers that as religious leaders, they have to be above politics, please view the video clips below.

parties like umno and pas may change, but principles such as justice and righteousness never change.
i don’t think that religious leaders should stand against umno/bn per se, but they should stand against corruption, injustice, and unrighteousness… if umno/bn changes for the better (impossible i know, but just as a hypothetical situation) then religious leaders would not be against them.
p.s. i’m a christian =)

Except for a handful, most of the religious leaders in the country have their own agenda and vested interest. These are the ones who betray the trust of their followers when mollycoddled by the executive when bestowed with meaningless awards such as datuk, tan sri or whatever.
The vocal ones fighting for freedom of worship and freedom to worship their respective religions without hagemony from the executive, fundamental Islamic clerics and the obnoxious msm such as UM, BH, etc would support ABU whole-heartedly and ask their followers to do the same.
The religious fence sitters are too meek and fearful of the wrath of the executive. They would rather cast their individual votes for the parties supporting ABU than be pulled up by the authorities for voicing their liberal opinions. Their votes will count at the ballot box. No amount of intimidation, harrassment and portraying the 513 bogeyman will make count on voting day.
Be happy that many a responsible and farsighted religious leaders in the country has spoken up and against the inconsistancies of the executive and its religious arm in perpetuating the myth that they are above the laws of the country. These are the true evangelist and torch-bearers who would be able to enlighten their followers to see what is right and consequentlly support ABU directly or covertly.

One thing I can assure you Haris, by no means have I so far heard any sermon read in my church at least that comes from any religious departments in the Prime Minister’s Department. From what is generally said in sermons, although we do also pray for our national leaders, which includes the King, the Prime Minister, his cabinet and the other members of parliament, it does not take to be a wise one to be able to decipher that your leanings should be towards the truth, And that truth cannot be found in UMNO’s BN. No its not come to the point yet where from the pulpit you are going to hear any out right condemnation of UMNO’s BN, support for it, or support for ABU’s initiative. And, still being a church going member, although not as regular as my mother would wish me to be, I would not condone any outward support or condemnation of UMNO’s BN or your ABU from an organised religious perspective. That is for me or anyone as an individual to state. Remember, give unto Ceasar?

This big brother party has been bleeding dry the nation’s coffer for decades and lately, sub-contracted out its ugly gangsterism to pekasa-pekida to make themselves look good but the thiefing must go on come what may.Whatever your religion, if you support such betraying acts to the nation, you are are making a fool out of your own religion and be prepared to face the consequence when Malaysia Spring arrives in GE13.
