Kassim Ahmad has written to the Home Ministry to request that the banning of his book, “Hadith – A Re-evaluation, be lifted.
Self-appointed Muslim scholars oppose this.
My guess is the ban will stay.
No big deal.
I’ve read it about 15 years ago, met the man, and argued with him on some of his points of view.
The book is definitely worth a read.
You can get a PDF version online HERE.
Happy reading, folks.

Question! Can you be charged for having read a banned book by Jakim? or Jawi or who ever for having read a banned book? And also for disseminating and directing Muslims to read a banned book? It would seem like your “crime” is worse than that of the Border’s manager whoc they recently charged. (Of course I know you would eagerly welcome them to. But that is not the question.)

hello Mr Paul Warren, selective prosecution is the norm for UMNO/BN. 1. MCA president Chua Soi Lek admitted and was witnessed by millions in action performing unnatural sexual act , witch is criminal and against the rule of law in this country. No criminal charges. Annuar Ibrahim did not admit to unnatural sex, but subjected to criminal charges. 2. Border’s was charged before the book was banned. “SELECTIVE PROSECUTION BY UMNO/BN”

Haris,
Harakah has a “Marah buku diharam, Kassim ugut ‘bunuh’ Anwar” which quoted Kassim as saying that he wants to “gantung Datuk Anwar Ibrahim sampai mati” and even “Saya bersedia untuk menembak dia” while “menyerang Anwar dengan bahasa kesat sehingga sanggup meludah mukanya”.

As for the reason why Kassim uttered those words, the Harakah report mentioned that “Anwar dan Nik Aziz dianggap orang penting yang menyebabkan teori hadis Kassim Ahmad ditolak ulama dan umat Islam” (which is apparently deemed by Kassim to be the reason why his book was banned).
I am rather disturbed to read such words coming from someone like Kassim, who is suppsoed to be a religious writer.

Kassims book should never be banned. It is the truth being rejected by stupid people, who cannot denies a debate on it because they know they would lose.
If Anwar and Nik Aziz banned it they are stupid and shall not be admited to heaven by Allah.
Even Allah supports his anti hadis book Refer Quran 31:6″Some people use vain hadis to mislead others from Allahs path, without knowledge, and make a mockery of it(Allahs path)” .

no books should be banned. faith is between us and god. if we sin, we sin to god and he has a system to punish us if we wronged. why should another takes god role? why someone else punish us? prosecution role of Jan Agamas should be removed and laws abolished.

books can never ever be banned..there are always ways to get them..nor can they be burned..they can still be sourced, ignoring that a problem exists or fear attack what the gov is so proned to is not really the answer to any unsettling question. the way to deal wt bad ideas is to come up wt better ideas…
