Attended the Janji Demokrasi press conference yesterday morning. Both FMT and Malaysiakini have reports of the PC.
I was at the PC to represent ABU, which is one of the endorsing NGOs for the event scheduled for 30th August, 2012 at Dataran Merdeka as well as several other venues here in Malaya. Confirmed as at the time of my writing up this post are venues in Malacca, Johor and Perak, although details of the precise venues in those states are not in hand as yet. Will update you as and when I have those details.
Can’t as yet say if Sabah and Sarawak will be organising anything in solidarity with Malaya. Will let you know if I hear anything.
Spent the better part of yesterday writing up my post to share with you why I will be there at Dataran Merdeka on the night of 30th August. Its not quite done yet and I hope to share it with all of you later today or, latest, tomorrow.
Had a late night tea last night with my dear friend Jayanath of SABM at Devi’s Corner, Bangsar.
Two young men, one of whom had attended a forum in JB last year at which Jayanath, Dr Jeffrey Kitingan and I had spoken came up to me to ask how ABU was going and how were things looking generally.
I shared my thoughts with them, including my concerns about the possibility of Pakatan fielding, in Sabah, as candidates in GE 13, their new-found friends who had only recently parted ways with BN to now declare their readiness to work with Pakatan.
Might they, post GE 13, reveal their true amphibian-like selves and return to the band of robbers and thieves that they have long kept company with?
The two young men echoed similar concerns.
I’ll be posting on this issue next week and hope to have your thoughts on the same.
Out from the restaurant with Jayanath, heading to our cars, my eyes suddenly lit up.
What a sight to behold!
3 men in blue, two on motorbikes, outside the police beat base across from Devi’s.
Went over to them, gave my salam, wished them Selamat Hari Raya, confessed that I had been at all 3 Bersih rallies and apologised to each of them if they had been inconvenienced by those rallies. Told them I had nothing to give them for Raya but some important literature, and then proceeded to hand to each of them a copy each of ABU’s Mengapa Harga Barang Naik? pamphlet and the Pesanan Tulus Ikhlas Kepada Anggota Keselamatan flyer.
The two on the bikes immediately started to glean through the pamphlets and one just uttered, “Oh, Abu”.
All three thanked me, we shook hands again, and I made my way back to Jayanath.
Got home, feeling quite pleased with how the day had been and thought I’d try and finish my ‘What Janji Demokrasi means to me’ post right after I checked my emails.
The very first email I opened put paid to my plans and led to me writing up this post instead as I just had to share this with all of you.
The email was from UMNO’s worst nightmare.
Mat ABU.
Here, I’ll first share with you excerpts of his introductory email to me and then I will post up attachments he sent.
Abang dah famous.
Dia jenis penakut, lah.
Pergi lone ranger, bang. Nak bawak member, takut besok salah cakap, bini tahu. Hehehe. Secret macam ni, ok, kan bang? Tengah malam, abu sana, abu sini, pandai2 lah. Esok waktu siang, lalu tangkap gambar.
Saya tak mahu anak dilahirkan dan diabdikan Umno, bang. Dah cukup, lah. Tengok orang kampung hidup tak tentu makan sedih lah, bang. Insya’ala, mereka pun sudah sedar. Hari undi nanti, Umno akan tau siapa boss.
Gambar saya hantar ni kerja dua malam lalu.
n teh tarik, ok.

Wow branding! I’m only sticking, and they can be pulled out. Done sticking ( and giving out to others to photostat, to stick) in Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Tanjung Malim, my home base Setapak, and the routes I take. Will not stop. Feeling like Mat Abu after he has BRANDED. Looking out for police, Umno, but feeling just great doing it.
Anne,
You are priceless!

Hey that’s an idea Harris! How about making templates for us to follow in Mat Abu’s style? I will make my own, but better if you can make a couple hundred and those interested can send you payment per piece. Paint better and faster than gum paste… sticky, messy and cumbersome.
Bro,
Will check wih the office if that is possible.
Otherwise, each make their own, lah. more fun and creative that way
