Writings of Guru Nanak Dev
॥
O Baba, the Lord Allah is Inaccessible and Infinite.
He is Allah, the Unknowable, the Inaccessible, All-powerful and Merciful Creator.
In the Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Atharva Veda became prominent; Allah became the Name of God.
The Primal Lord God is called Allah. The Shaykh’s turn has now come.
The Sikh’s Kalima
The Sikh’s KalimaTayyab for the believers of Guru Nanak runs:
“La Ilaha Ill Allah Nanak Rasool Allah
Translation: (There is no god only Allah, Guru Nanak is the Rasool (Messenger) of Allah)
Guru Grant Sahib
Guru Nanak said in Guru Granth Sahib………”AWWAL ALLAH NOOR UPAYA……KUDRAT ………”
Translation: It was the light of ALLAH which came first and gave birth to every thing…….
From Hindu Scripture, the Allaupanishad:
“Hotermindra Hotermindra Mahashurindraiy:
Alla Jeyshthang Paramang Purnang Brhman Aullam
Aadalla Bukmekkam Alla Buk Nikhatkam Aulley Aullam.”
Translation: The Supreme! The Most Exalted! The Most Powerful is HE. Alla is the best and the Greatest (or Highest). He is the Supreme, Complete and One without any Fault (Error etc.). He is Uncomparable. Alla is Comparable to Alla alone.
From Atharva-Vedic Upanishad ||9||:
“Aushwa illaley Mitravaruna-Raja Tashmat-Tani Divyani
Punastang Dudhya Habaiyami Milang Kabar Illallang
Alla-rahsul Mahamad Rakang Baraswa
Alla Allam Illallotey Illalla”
Translation: At an appropriate time, a Great man named MAHAMMAD will appear, whose abode will be in the desert (Arabia). He will be accompanied by his companions.
From Alla-Upanishad:
“Alla Mahamadkang Baraswa … … … … … … …”
Translation: Accept Muhammad, the Prophet of Allah as an example to be followed.

Another point of view ….which I wrote to a curious non-Muslim :
Dear Jocelyn ,
…imagine I have a hard work ahead of me trying to explain the name ” الله ” even to Muslims themselves. The name is both a proper name and generic name.
Its a generic name looking at the verse :
وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُمْ مَّنْ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلأَرْضَ لَيَقُولُنَّ ٱللَّهُ
<>
It says that the Arab infidels even say the word ” الله ” to mean the Almighty God , not the way when Muslims mean ” الله ” as the unique One God which has no partners , is a proper name for God.
It is also a proper name to Muslims only , as stated in the verse :
وَللَّهِ ٱلأَسْمَآءُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ فَٱدْعُوهُ بِهَا
<>
To understand this …for example “Jocelyn” is your proper name …then when people call you by other names by attributes like “the Pretty” , “the Smart” , “the Polite” …and so on , some very nice attributive names , but your real proper name is still “Jocelyn”.
In Islam , ” الله ” is a proper name in the sense that He is the TRUE One God , the Creator of all of mankind. When a non-Muslim says “Allah” (note the spelling) …it doesn’t mean the ” الله ” the Islamic doctrinal name of the Divine Being. That is….”Allah” simply means “God”. Nothing wrong with that.
Then no need to be so fussy about the name “Allah” is the name of the Muslim God. That’s the argument I have been trying to say. Let the non-Muslims say “Allah” …because its NOT the name of the Muslim God.
They think the name “Allah” as used by non-Muslims can cause a confusion. No , that cannot be the case. Muslims should say “Allaah” ( the elongated “a” form ) , even both the pronunciation “Allah” and “Allaah” cannot exactly be ” الله ” in Arabic. The spelling for ” الله ” is in Arabic and “Allah” is because the Arabic letter “ه” is not exactly like “h” in pronunciation.
At the same time , ” الله ” is the God of all of mankind. This is the Muslims’ belief. Can’t they see the difference ?
So even some Muslims have misunderstood their own religion , trying to confine it into a narrow scope. That’s when TG Nik Aziz , TG Haji Hadi and Ust Azhar Idrus were trying to express this …that the name “Allah” can be used by non-Muslims …even some Muslim PAS suporters oppose. That’s what I mean by bigotry and ignorance , worst still , that can come from Dr Haron Din.
And it is very difficult to explain this to bigots.

Can we all agree that this whole Allah issue is nothing but a manufactured problem?
Manufactured and crafted and chipped away everytime something new appears. It makes the learned ones look stupid. Which is what they are. Rather than using history, language, historical texts and holy books, we should just keep them out of the discussion as they tend to make total idiots of themselves when they do that as reflected in the Friday sermon.
Just focus on what this does to the Malay mind. Focus on what the assumptions are that support the contentions postulated. When you do that you will find that the aguments so far put forward insults Islam and assumes Malays in Malaysia to be stupid. When my mother’s Indonesian maid from Medan who speaks Malay and is a Muslim finds this whole thing rather stupid because she is accustomed to seeing the Christians in Medan using Allah in their literature as well as in spoken form, it would seem like as if, according to the proponents of this issue, Malaysian Malays are unschooled and of little knowledge so taht they can be so easily confused.

Singa Terhormat,
Controlling how Islam is practised is one of the last remaining weapons in the UMNO arsenal against the rakyat.
We can expect more flak from UMNO and their lackeys against the moderate stance you have taken on Islam. After all, how dare you promote a peaceful and harmonious view of Islam, eh?

I just came across in Malaysiakini that Perak mufti, Harussani Zakaria, has pronounced that Muslims in the country will become infidels if they allow non-Muslims to use the word ‘Allah’. In his case I think there is no need to call upon him to apologize. One can apologize only if one is able to recognize one’s error. He has been very persuasive all this while in convincing everyone that he is too stupid to do just that.

Dear Singa,
You can go ahead and present all the physical evidence between here and heaven with the clearest reasoning known to rational men. But the problem in Malaysia is, It will all be gunned down with 2 irresistible counter-arguments:
1 “You do not have the credentials” (even if you have Phd in Islamic studies)
2 “We are the majority here”
With all the shit hitting the fan (Sabah RCI, the carpetbagger, the French connection etc), this “A…” issue is a godsend to certain people, to ensure disarray in the opposition pact, to garner the majority support and ensure scraping through the next GE on the basis of race/religion.
So how?

Spot on Sam, spot on. I can’t imagine so much having been written on NOTHING! Bloody politics! How can we stop the politicizing of the word “Allah” in BN’s tracks? That is the question? Come on people, give us the ideas …..

AABM….I dare say Islam has been distorted to such an extent in this country merely to instill fear, like with the word Allah, that people also fear it…..a religion has to embrace, especially when it is God’s word..
I dare say again that Christianity superceded Islam in numbers only because its benign outlook, together with the images of God, drew people to it….it has a friendly persuasion which is attractive, as human beings being mortals seek affection.

shakuntala,
I think it is human nature to want to play {insert your favourite deity} every now and then. The best way seems to be to hijack a religion and claim to be speaking for it
Yeah, I am a mortal and I do seek affection – unfortunately, as an atheist living in the real world, I am too shy to approach pretty girls to ask for some

Islam should not be judged by how it is practiced in Malaysia. Here, the loudest voices are often the most ignorant, driven as they are by political expediency, ethnic chauvinism, delusions of fame/grandeur etc. Yet another by-product of the pervasive Mahathirism school of thought which effectively created the racial/religious/social class/income distinctions in a country which was once truly a model of harmony.

There are no such Hindu scriptures as Allaupanishad and no such quotes from the Atharva. These are fabrications.

The Allopanishad is said to be a pseudo upanishad (see http://kalyanchandra.in/2009/09/25/allopanishad/). Sri Aurobindo, Dayananda Saraswati and Swami Vivekananda ruled out the validity of Allopanishad and have claimed that it must have been written during Akbar regime when he started Din Illa-hi religion (mixture of Hinduism and Islam) which couldn’t attract people. Also see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allopanishad.

Singa Terhormat,
Many of the references you cite exist on the internet and/or Wiki. Thus, it might have been more useful if you had cited your source material. Many of the internet sites containing such information can be seen as doubtful sources – indeed, many of them have been criticised for being very economical with the truth, or given to wishful thinking.
That said, aren’t we just flogging a dead horse here? The JAKIM people DO NOT want to know the truth, will not acknowledge facts, and will stick to their own version of the truth as prescribed by the government ulamaks.
