I am working on a project to examine and try to build on the legacy and the inspiration that Tunku who, in my view was the greatest statesman this country has ever produced, left us.
Someone sent me this by e-mail. It is a quote from Tunku.
“We must each always think first of Malaya, of the national need and least of ourselves. Everyone must try to help and see that the people are one-minded, with one loyalty and one aim, to make Malaya – the land we love – a happy abode for all of us. If we all do this then we can guarantee liberty, security, prosperity and happiness for the future.” – 1959
What is the greatest legacy that this man left us?
What is his greatest contribution to us?
Does he inspire you? If so, how so?
How do we as a nation honour Bapa Malaysia?
Would you share your thoughts with me on these questions?
If you do not wish to have your thoughts appear as a comment, send them to thepeoplesparliament@gmail.com

Everytime I think of the Tunku I see the image of a very sad old man.He died knowing that the country was on a path that was very much different from the one that was envisioned by him and his colleagues of his time. And how we have strayed from the path…
Maybe we should organise a series of talks / seminars and discuss of our lost ideals. The ideals that we should inculcate in society today. Maybe we should also re-examine what the late Dato Onn Jaafar’s vision of Malaya was? What motivated him to leave UMNO? Why try to start a new a party called “Party Malaya”? I am sure many would benefit to know what happened then. We dont learn about these things in our history books.
I believe we can learn many valuable lessons from the past. Harris you are right in what u are doing. Carry on bro. The nation needs to be “steered” back on to its correct track. What we need to do is to go back in time and re-examine the past in order to go forward.
May all be well & happy always,

His greatest legacy : Achieving independence for Malaya
His greatest contribution : Being a true leader
He inspired me to be at peace with others in order to avoid conflicts.
It is truly sad that many(i have lost count) of us are unable to carry on his visions….
I am sad….and i know many are too….
May all be well&happy always too

His greatest legacy has been his dedication and sincerity towards achieving independence for the nation. His greatest contribution was uniting everyone under one roof called Malaysia. He inspires me with his open-mindedness and simplicity. We as Malaysians can honour our Bapa Malaysia by promoting and accepting his values and principles.
Even though i was not born during his time, but i simply love him and he is the best Prime Minister Malaysia has ever produced.

I grew up knowing little of TunKu, except that he was the Father of Independence.
Malaysian has a way of calling every prime minister a father of something, and Father of Independence does not seem that significant at first.
With the recent development in Malaysian politics, I realized, TunKu is probably the only true to blood Malaysian Prime Minister. Not just talk only.
Malaysia is a multi racial country and only a Prime Minister that cares for all its people will appreciate the spirit of Malaysia and thus, act to preserve it.

It’s nice and comforting to know that people still remembers him to this day. Many have forgotten him and his contributions. He truly was a great person and greatly adored and loved by his family. If he was still here, we would be in a more loving environment where they would be no prejudice among ourselves.
Thank you for acknowledging him. He really loved his fellow Malaysians. He loved his nation and his people so much that it’s true, he put them before himself and his family.
