Yesyerday, we resisted the forces that have long sought to keep us divided.
Yesterday, anak-anak Bangsa Malaysia found the strength and the courage to lay the foundation for a nation of a single people.
A single people who will build this country on the foundation of justice and equality for all.
All praise is due to God.
The work has just begun.
Much needs to be done.
I have given you, my fellow anak Bangsa Malaysia, a pledge and, by God, I will deliver on my pledge.
My friends and I who have been working on the several initiatives through this blog will be taking a short and much needed break.
Then we’ll be back to continue with the unfinished business of restoring this country back to its people.
Thank you, God, for the strength You give us.
Makkal Sakti! Makkal Sakti! Makkal Sakti!

I think you deserve a break, but I agree that Barisan Rakyat is long way off yet. This election, with God’s grace all three sectors of Rakyat Malaysia voted the other way but for many different reasons.
We will have to channel the desire to be ONE in the next five years. Malaysians will have to live as ONE and walk as ONE if we were to ever end UMNO’s dominance. However, the result could not have come at a better way where, opposition parties are given the golden opportunities to run various states to prove to the rakyat that they are indeed capable. To top it all up, we can now deny the ruling party the chance to ammend the constitution with impunity.
Malaysians, the journey has just begun and with Haris at the helm of this initiative, I am sure we will move forward.

I believe the political tsunami was unexpected. We expected some results but what we witnessed was totally unexpected. But the results do not represent the end. They represent a beginning. The dawn of a new era to bring back the country to the people.
Now that the elections are over, there is talk that the newbies will not be able to deliver and by the next election, the scenario will be tilted the other way again.
Let the Barisan Rakyat reps do their work diligently and transparently. There must be a sincerety never seen before under the BN. There should be no infighting and all the parties involved must work in true partnership.
Listen to the people. They gave Barisan Rakyat the votes. Know their fears and grouses. Draw up comprehensive plans to tackle their issues. Show the rakyat that the Barisan reps are here to stay.

The Rakyat needs to continue to keep tabs on the new representatives regardless whether they are from Opposition or government. Gone are the days whereby we only exercise our power during the election.
An important item we all cared for is Bangsa Malaysia whereby all of us are equal in Malaysia. All of us are First Class Citizens! Let us continue to lobby UMNO to end all discriminatory policies in Malaysia.

Harris,
Congratulations to you, Raja Petra, Rocky, Zorro and all other bloggers who criss-crossed the country.
You all did not go around searching for “syok” as one ex-information chief claimed. You gave the rakyat the added “dose of vaccine” to give all the courage to go out and make the change.
Change we did as I sat in one saluran as a polling agent and watched people streaming in to vote. People who were averse to voting turned up for the first time and had to be guided where to stand (behind the disposable paper booths) and mark their choices.
One rookie voter in Pandamaran , after marking the ballot paper, stood in front of the ballot box, looked around at the polling clerks, the polling agents and the presiding officer and innocently asked “Which one for Charles Santiago”. All of us in the room looked at each other, then pointed to the Parliamentry ballot box.
We all had a good laugh after he left the room.
That was the enthusiasm by the rakyat.
Lets take a few days off and start with oyr journey.
We have a few states to clean up.
First the Local Councils, we must push for Local Council Elections.
Second , ensure that all our Green Spaces are gazetted forever in the states where the Barisan Rakyat rules.
Make sure that all fields and open space for the rakyat are gazetted forever, so that our children have spaces to play and mingle together. We need more playgrounds etc where our children can mingle and get to know each other again.
Third, revitalise all the looking like “war torn” areas where there are plenty units of houses available, before we talk about the development corridors.
I have got more lists to do but I suppose we can meet and decide on them. Lets get the Meet MP sessions with our new Yang Berkhidmat.
Lets also educate our rakyat the roles of the MP, the ADUN and how they together with our elected local councillors can safeguard our rights at every level.
8th March 2008 will be our MERDEKA as Imtiaz puts it in GE2008 – MERDEKA. The BARISAN RAKYAT should make this day our DAY and remember it annually forever.

Makkal Sakti indeed. This is a major step towards rooting out the corrupt government that have been ruling over Malaysia for the past 5 decades. I hope that Barisan Rakyat will make good use of this opportunity to show the nation what it can do and also open the eyes of even more Malaysians so that they will be able to see what the BN has deprived the majority of citizens in malaysia during their autonomous rule all these years. For all the Barisan Rakyat members, I hope that all of you will deliver as promised and make this country a better place to live in. It was sweet! I saw that on your face when you just laid down on the sofa and closed your eyes while we were still around. Well deserved, and all thanks to you.
Sadly, the losing Barisan who will still rule the nation for, maybe, another five years, still think this nation is like a running track in a stadium, with each of us occupying a single track and never to merge. They still can’t seem to see that we were actually individual strings who wound ourselves into a rope when we went to the polls on Saturday.
Now they want to do a post mortem to see what happened. I’d recommend a far less costly endeavour. Just read our blogs and comments! Our secret recipe was all there for them to use for themselves if they only bothered to.

dear haris,
when the euphoria ends, people will start to realise, some of DAP(or PKR) MPs are young, new and raw in the political enviroment. there are those who got voted in for the reason to hv more representation of DAP (or PKR or PAS) in the parliament or state assemblies, not because they were the better candidate.
we need to be aware of the possible consequences and ensure that the should also be check and balances on them as we would have like to ensure for any ruling party.
there should also be some kind of means and measure as to their performance as our MPs.
well, i guess when you have taken a good break you will make known to us your concept of the Representative Watchdog Committee.
thanks,

Dear Harris,
We have to thank you for taking the initiative of many issues that effected our country. Now that these initiatives have been translated into votes by the rakyat we have to ensure that the elected reps in the 5 states under the Barisan Rakyat walks the talk. I believe the work has just started. Lets ensure that we keep our elected reps on their toes and that they humbly serve the rakyat equally irespective of the colour of the sking or the religion they profess. Thank you Haris, for your passion, vision, tireless efforts and love for this country and its people
You guys ( yourself, Raja Petra and the many other bloggers ) have played a pivotal role in bringing about the winds of change in this country which culminated in yesterday’s tsunami
Yes, this is just the beginning. There is much work to do. It’s a long road ahead ( Rome wasn’t built in a day, nor can the foundations of justice and equality, be laid in one general election, or a country restored within 5 years ) but t-o-g-e-t-h-e-r, we can do this. One step at a time. One election at a time. One initiative at a time. One state at a time …

Well done, I say, to all you bloggers who led us in this battle. Well done!
God gives us the strength when we have the courage to take up the challenge. Without bold leadership, the people would not have arisen. To our leaders like RPK and Haris, we give thanks.
There is much to be done. Ideological gaps have to be bridged. Old baggage has to be dropped. Formulae for power sharing have to be developed.
One major threat will be the UMNO desire to exact revenge and regain pre-eminence. They are sure to fan the insecurities of the Malays and pounce on any opportunity to denounce perceived erosion of rights and privileges.
We have come a long way. Let us pray for the patience and wisdom to do the right things to successfully navigate the minefield that looms ahead.

Please be Fair to confirm many of the Pledges of the Opposition can only be done at Parliamental level
after Reform of Constitution & Laws
where Oppositions have to get hold of at least 1/2 Parliament seats!
Or, unless the Opposition can get hold of the Police, Judiciary and ACA.
Otherwise, BN will continue not answering to AG reports and not be taken by ACA
and to have justice in Court.
Please advise People the limit of what can be done when the Oppositions are in most case restricted in the States they are majority. But, can only monitoring or complaining at Federal level.
Except when the necessary or essential ministers are doing their jobs.
For Subang Jaya, can we see some basis things to be done?
which has been ignored or avoided by a number of DAP and PKR lawyers (from the most Senior to the Juniors):
The Missions for Subang Candidates as in
Please show justice can be done even on a town or a Condo to convince justice be in the State and be for the Nation, at last!

Observation by Leslie Lopez of Singapore’s The Sunday Times (9 March 2008, News, page 22):
“As Malaysians wake up to a dramatically altered political landscape, few expect any violence.
“That’s because the rebuke delivered to the BN wasn’t motivated by racial politics.
“It was Malaysian.”
That last line says it all. Couldn’t have put it better myself. Personally, this is what I thank God the most for.

Haris,
We have had same objectives but unfortunately had a small difference. I don’t know if you will ever get to read this comment as you are a busy Human Rights activist and I don’t even know if you are the one moderating the comments or someone helping you as you have lots of helpers, I have none.
I was so glad I did not sleep and haven’t yet sleep a wink since I came out of the counting center. But I saw a post in Yahoo beritamalaysia list that says PAS going to implement Hudud in Kedah plus another one that says PAS will have 3 Mentri Besars which is not proportional to the number of seats they won.
You told us, don’t fear. PAS by itself cannot form the government even if they win all contested seats. But reading just the headings of those 2 threads have started to get me anxious, and I don’t even know if you are going to bother reading Should non-Muslim have a say over whether Malaysia will become an Islamic state and I just hope PAS well not force the pendulum to swing over the other side.
I have to depend on you as you have got those parties to endorse what you called at beautiful document at the Haris Ibrahim at the SS2 Petaling Jaya ceramah. That is the transcript of what I think is a great speech. I had wanted to add that Peoples’ Declaration to my blog but haven’t done it yet and I suspect just like the CSI pledge, may contain a clause “to consult”.
I would hate to have anything forced down my or my family’s throats without real consultation.
I am no longer member of your Peoples’ Parliament, but I now have to put my hope on you that my grandchildren will not end up living in an Islamic state without my consent. Please.
Peter,
Keep the faith

A big Thank You for your enduring efforts to support the recent campaigns with your fiery speeches. We the people need to ‘make up ‘ an award for you somehow, if there isn’t one already…! But I am sure you are a humble person but determined in your quest to take race out of politics and replace it with a Bangsa Malaysia and would not flinch in your journey. The people denied BN 2/3 and more, now its the representatives that have to walk the talk. I sincerely hope that DAP and PKR (at least) can unite to form a credible opposition and if PAS comes in, the better. As they have all endorsed the Peoples Declaration, that is the most urgent as the BN spinners would do their utmost to destroy this pact.

I can still remember vividly the life while I was at school and the country was administered by the BN. Some of the things are:
[1] If you are writing a karangan, you must put the Malay race first in all circumstances to at least please the examiner. For example:
“Negara Malaysia terdiri daripada pelbagai kaum – Melayu, Cina dan India…”
This karangan will at least get reviewed by the examiner. However look at this sample.
“Negara Malaysia terdiri daripada pelbagai kaum – India, Cina dan Melayu…”
The second karangan will somehow irritate the examiners that till today thought that they have this ketuanan melayu ideology. That karangan might got a grade C as a result.
[2] The second one would be the Sejarah lesson at school. It was always the May 13 incident that the teachers talked the most in the class. Probably a scare tactic? I do not know. Or probably the government-hired historians like the hypocritical Khoo Khay Kim did not dare to comment the truth of the incident.
[3] TV1 or TV2 will never fail to air locally made movies about the communism threat that took place in the 60’s when it comes to general election and independence day. Another propaganda and scare tactic, maybe? So as The Star, NST and other government-controlled media. Tell me if this is not a similar tactic used by a communist country. It’s all about propaganda and scare tactics.
[4] Anak dato’ or kawan kepada anak dato’ will usually get entrance to renown education institutions such as the MCKK or the Victoria Institutions. Where on earth is the meritocracy? It was as though things can be made easier if you have connections. Tell me if this is not nepotism or cronism.
[5] Scholarships and education loans, too, are a huge issue. The BN government is so ineffective in charging the loan defaulters. Once again, it is not based on meritocracy. Imagine having the scholarship applicants not writing down the IC number to apply for a scholarship. Somehow I believe that the IC numbering system itself contains some information to differentiate sex and race.
[6] The BN government was so paranoid about what was happening around them. This is a perfect example in a karangan that we were thought to write.
“Budaya kuning boleh memusnahkan negara…”
We as students were indoctrinated to use such key phrases in order to please the examiners, but not to write whatever we have in mind. How on earth is this “budaya kuning” going to destroy our country when the politicians themselves are so corrupted? “He seems like me, looks like me, sounds like me, but it’s not me”
[7] It is undeniable that the BN ideology creeps into the higher education institutions. You may see that the chancellors or dean are the useless people in the academia to sit in that position. Unfortunately these are the people hand-picked by the BN. When the list of world-wide university ranking is released annually, these are the people that give nothing but excuses. “We need more time”. More time for what? Tidur kah?
[8] The reason why the Chinese and the Indians were so afraid to vote for the Barisan Rakyat in the previous years is because they too were students, once. And they, too, took the Sejarah lesson. It is because of the May 13 1969 scare tactic deployed by the BN that affect the voting result.
[9] Even my Malay friend was saying to me in a different tone “Jangan lupa May 13.” I looked at him and smiled and said, “you do not need to worry for us. The whole world is watching.”
Million thanks to Raja Petra and Haris Ibrahim

Many feel that, without a simple majority in parliament, we can’t do much. UMNO (is it even BN anymore?) controls and still governs. And can continue to do so with impunity.
One thing we have that they can’t cheat us of is the new knowlegde that Makkal Sakthi is real. The rakyat have tasted success. And nothing creates believers like success does. You can be sure there are many who hesitated, voted BN and now wish they had done otherwise.
I expect that most Indians and Chinese are ready to believe that change is good. Many Malays also share the sentiment. But I imagine that many who voted for change now have some trepidation, some concern over what is to come next. And those BN loyalists who had remained indifferent would now be wishing that they had cast their vote.
One of the most important tasks before us is to reinforce the belief that change is good. We will have to undo some of the iniquities perpetrated by UMNO in the states governed by the Rakyat. These states will demonstrate to the nation what the Barisan Rakyat stands for. These things will have to be done with utmost care.
The more challenging task, which is of utmost and immediate importance, is the restoration of judicial independence. Without an independent judiciary, we can accomplish nothing. Fortunately His Majesty stopped the reappointment of an UMNO lackey as the head of the judiciary. I believe that Datuk Abdul Hamid, knowing the rakyat are now behind him, may be ready to exercise that independence and resume the appointment of honest and capable people to office.
When the judiciary becomes independent, then we can begin the process of healing, even without a simply majority in parliament.

Perak would be the real test for tolerance and cooperation between DAP, PAS and PKR. I hope the leaders would think about the rakyat of Perak when they discuss on who would be MB and the EXCO. It’s time to be real and not idealistic.
Remember that success in Perak would be a boon for the next general elections, but a disaster if otherwise.

Cyber world media, they speak from their heart and there is no wrong and right answer. You decide and this has shown in the GE.
Hope the opposition keep their promises.
We are now going into a new chapter in our fight to a new Malaysia.

Ku Li for PM. Meanwhile tell the old scumbag to stop trying to promote Najib. We had enough of him and his thots. Lets not forget that Dollah and Najib are his legacy. With them around nothing will change. The Rakyat have spoken and lets start dismantling all the old man’s legacy. Tun M just keep quiet, you have created this situation and the polarization of races in Malaysia during your time. We respect you for your age .that’s all do not mistake it for anything else. A wish list for the Opposition:
Form a Shadow Cabinet (like in the UK).
Start drawing up Bills – to abolish ISA, OSA, University Colleges Act, amend PPPA, introduce a Freedom of Information Act, privacy laws, pass the Data Protection law (which has been in draft form for about 10 years now).
Perhaps we can help draft them.
What do you think?

Thank you Haris and bloggers like yourself! Your untiring efforts to spread the message of change to the Malaysian public has worked! The Malaysian people were not blinded by the mainstream media to think that ‘semuanya ok’ with the Barisan Nasional. The truth about their greedy ways has gotten out! Well done!

A big thank you to all you gals and guys for your tireless efforts in making this happened.
On a more serious note, now that the dust of euphoria has settled, the road ahead may not entirely be a jovial ride.
A lot of changes have to be made by those who has just acquired the power to rule and political will will be needed to make the changes.
It is good to see that on the political front they have ironed out the premiership of the respective states and Perak will probably be resolved in a amicable way.
The delivery system via the civil service must be inspired to a higher level with promotions for those who qualified.
Local councils will have to be replaced enbloc and suitable and qualified people appointed to run for the benefit of the people. Talking about local councils, is local election possible since opposition is now in power or is a federal directive needed?
As we all know, with power comes great responsibilities and also the danger of it being corrupted and I think TPP’s suggestion of having a MP watchdog is a fantastic idea.

Dear Saudara Harris,
This is a new era. They may many still believe in the race /religious based politics of BN. Let this victory be a stepping stone to show everyone that we can work and live together as Malaysian with respect for each other. If we could do that in the next election we can wipe BN for good.
I am so happy. My prayers answered. End to the tyranny of BN. End to corruption and nepotism in Malaysian politics.

We must not forget to Thank, the police who were determined to create this Political Tsunami,by setting up road blocks to inconvenience the Public, by firing all the Water Cannons, and Tear gas cannisters at innocent Citizens of OUR Country.
Yes, your road blocks, Tear Gas and Water Cannons did indeed create that avalache of Votes for the Opposition!!…Thank You Musa, You were indeed the greatest supporter of the Opposition…without that massive use of the Police Force, to deny the Rakyat of their basic rights to peacefull assembly, WE the RAKYAT would never have been challenged to rise and create that Tsunami to drown the nearly 70 BN MPs at the Ballot box!!

Congratulations to everyone here. I echo the sentiments of a lot of people here that you, Haris, have been one of the instrumental pillars of Malaysian people power. What an achievement, and against all odds!
It is indeed a new beginning for Malaysia, but remember, it is just the beginning. Let us continue to strive to make our dreams of a true, just, multi-racial Malaysia a reality.

Dear Haris,
You and your team have done well. I have heard of you and Raja Petra before but not in person.
The first time I heard you and RPK speak was in USJ 12, together with thousands of people.
That night, I was inspired by the youthness of the candidates and the boldness in the way you all spoke. The illusion I had that we were insignificant to make a difference went out the door! I realized for years how little I have done to make that change which I had wanted for Malaysia.
All that changed after that night.
I started to write in your blog. I made calls and spoke to people I know about the need for change. I sent sms with messages to vote in favour of the opposition and to promote the will of the people so that we can make the difference.
I guess I was not alone!
I have also heard you spoke with conviction on what we need to do to regain and rebuild Malaysia and that people power will work in this country. Raja Petra’s speech also made me think deeper about the possibilities.
You have also untiringly and unselfishly helped the candidates such as Gwo Burne. You have done well.
And now, my belief in you and Raja Petra and all the opposition parties have been realized!
I am very happy to know that your untireless work has made the difference in people like us to stand up and be counted. With this experience, I have decided to continue to visit your blog and contribute in whatever manner I can. I will express myself like never before, for my children and their children and for Malaysia.
This will keep the people’s power alive and our country’s future with the hopes and dreams to be realised.
You and all your team deserved a break. So, please do that, get your voice back and start the ball rolling again when you have had your well deserved rest.
I just want you to know that from this day on, you have added a very loyal follower who will try his best to make a difference.
Thank you again Haris, RPK and all your team members who are behind the scenes for the inspiration.
Thank you Malaysians for making this call possible.
Congratulations to all the new YABs and YBs. Please carry on the winds of change deeper into Parliament and make us proud to be “Anak bangsa Malaysia”!!!

Hi Harris,
I had the pleasure of listening to your speeches and I must say you too played an important part in making the people realise that we need a change. You, Raja Petra, Anwar and all the other bloggers who I many not be familiar with should gives yourselfs a pat on the back for a job well done. Without all your encouragement and revelation of the truth of what the BN govement has been doing, Malaysians may not have had the courgage to go for change and show the BN how powerful people power is.
We want a malaysia for all Malaysians, a Bangsa Malaysia
where all the races can live in hamony and not a country run on racialistic lines. I have friends of all races and I believe most malaysians have no problems with other races. Instead it has been the BN who has been trying to instigate the people especially the Malays that if they do not support them, they will lose out to the non malays. They have been playing the race game. But now I hope that the opposition will proof to everyone that that is not so and that all Malaysians are one and will be treated equally. What we want is for help to be given to those who really need it irrespective of race or religion. Assistance should be given to the right people and not the already rich who under the BN has been abusing the position.
Hope the opposition will bring a big change for the betterment of all Malaysians.
Thank you for your hard work which contributed to the success and yes your deserve a break. hope you enjoy yourself.

This is what i saw when i bought lunch in a Selangor coffeeshop. A reporter with a cameraman interviewing people there. I saw many people turned their heads away , refusing to comment upon approach by the reporters. I then ask the fruitseller. This is how the conversation went.
” I see that there is a reporter and a cameraman” ,I said.
” Yeah , aiyoh people won’t give comment” she said.
” Why? What question she ask? ” , I said.
” Oh she ask what do you think of the election’s result? Are you satisfied with the result? …Aiyoh people won’t ans …if ans then others will know you are opposition….won’t be so stupid.” she said.
I was saddened by hearing and seeing this because the simple rights of freedom of speech is not practising. In Malaysia and in this modern age, people still have the idea of suppressing their views and voices despite their hearts are with the oppositions. Mahathir’s legacy has not only crippled the govt but also our freedom of speech. The idea of getting detained by ISA and being sidelined by friends who maybe with BN have long rooted by Mahathir for more than 20 years. We should be like the US democratic system which allow even a common folk to point out their leaders’ wrong without fear, honourably and in a diplomatic way. This allow other leaders to reckon others’ mistakes and not to follow suit.
I read a news that the Selangor new CM Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim will issue a 100-day reports on how the state govt job does with the comments from the people. It’s good but i fear the people who already think out of the box are unwilling to talk out of the box. This matter should be look into to let the people feel free to comment so that the new state govt won’t repeat the mistakes of the state govt before you.

Selamat Era Baru everyone. I have placed that greeeting on the front door of my factory building as well as the various places people work in. Funny how people respond to it. But I also had a word with my Malay employees who were all BN supporters explaining what happened. They needed to see what they refused to see before or could never see before because their eyes were permanently shut.
Only on the eve of the new era I spoke with my chairman telling him about a storm to come. He could not understand by his own admission. His world view painted by MSM obscured the view of what was to come. For the first time he wanted to know. I gave him PP’s blog site and my own, have to la…after all I have not advertised mine until now.

“Anak Bangsa Malaysia” is a term long overdue…we should have been calling ourselves that since 1957. Thank you for championing the rights of the Rakyat regardless of race. May the BR succeed in proving to us that Malaysia Memang Boleh without any form of discrimination, corruption and nepotism!A lot of cleaning up to do before the next elections and am sure if BR succeeds it will be a good sign to us for another wave of change – a change in THE Government.
Just a thought; if all the non-UMNO parties joined BR/Opposition, surely they could form Government?

Thank You Haris for all that you have done to change the course of this nation.
We were heading for disaster and when everything seemed hopeless, you and many others like RPK, Aisehman, Jeff, Susan, Elizabeth, Uthayakumar, Manoharan, Hannah, Ktemok, Zorro et al stepped up to give us the courage to openly say “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH”.
Now that we have stopped the slide somewhat, a lot needs to be done – at the local level and at the state level. Listen to the voices of reason, enhance the quality of life by starting with the simplest things, better parks, safe, convenient walkways, etc., give us value for the taxes we pay, make transparent decisions ONLY in favor of taxpayer wellbeing, restore our lost faith in leadership, remove racism in all forms …the list can go on and on.
In short, give us what the previous corrupt regime did not give us … took away from us.
Finally, keep reminding the new powers that be: “the people must not fear their government, the government must fear the people”.

Dear Haris,
It was indeed a pleasure to listen to your “ceremah” for Hannah Yeoh during the eve of election. Long have i waited for Malays (sorry for race identification) to speak against the NEP publicly. The general malay community must be convinced that it is NEP that in many ways rob them of their fortunes into the hand of a few. Many the new state government starts its policies on the right note and show the federal level how it works.
Thank you again for your tireless efforts througout the campaigns that i’m sure inspired many to change their mindset that have lead to the outcome this election.
Keep it up.

Wow, after the crushing defeat of BN, you can see the rumblings going on in UMNO. Mahathir has called Badawi to take 100% responsibility and to resign. This was followed up by Mukhriz to tell Badawi to “do the right thing” and resign. Today I read a press statement by Tengku Razaleigh criticising the UMNO leadership to rise from their “slumber” and to take full responsibility for this debacle. I presume the word “slumber” was used intentionally. Now, what UMNO is waiting for is for Najib to call on Badawi to resign and then the floodgates will open.
At present most of the BN leaders are quoted as giving support to Badawi’s position as PM. This reminded me of the situation in the Soviet Union where all the party leaders went to the train station to say best wishes and safe journey to Khruschev when he went for his holidays. Soon after, they overthrow him. I don’t suppose Badawi will be making any overseas trips soon (just in case). Next few weeks or days will be interesting.

Thank you Haris, and all those who worked tirelessly to provide us with a vision, and a plan.
The reality is, however, that we are a long way off from convincing each other that we are truly all bangsa Malaysia. Watching TV3 these past two days, does not anger me so much as make me aware of how schizophrenic perceptions can be.
We have a golden opportunity before each of us. The way forward must surely be to do what Haris, you have demonstrated. Which is to take the problems of another person ( of a different race) to heart, and work hard to ensure justice and development for all people regardless of race…”with malice towards none”…. Of course the concrete things, like making the government more accountable through local elections etc, must go on…. but I think this is also equally important.
Thank you again. for your wonderful work and ideas

Now that Barisan Rakyat has control of 5 state governments, we have to bear in mind thatmost of the DAP and PKR reps are rather young. They bear the torch of our ideals and deserve our support and encouragement.
BN is waiting for them to stumble and fail. We should encourage them and while we expect much, we should be helping them to fulfil the change we aspire and should not be quick to judge and criticize them for the want of experience.
From the comments I hear from the BN leaders, they appear to have the attitude of “Let’s see what these newbies and greenhorns can do. When they fail we will be there to point out their mistakes to everyone.” So let’s help the reps we have elected to get their act together to achieve the change we want.

That was what Badawi read when taking his pledge this morning. I presume he made the same pledge last year. Now how many changes to the constitution during his tenure? I recall one flippant reason..to extend the service of one man!!!

…continue…
It was after that fateful night I started my own mission to spread the news on why we, Malaysians should vote in the 12th General Election for the future of Bangsa Malaysia. My greatest satisfaction is when I succeeded in persuading my 75 years old aunt who has not voted in any of the last 5 elections and her 40 years old daughter who has never voted although registered, to vote this time round for Nurul Izzuh in Lembah Pantai. It was quite a feat as they were not in favour of Anwar Ibrahim at all. My point ? I would not vote for PKR as well if not for you or RPK. Please continue to inspire us and it will be a brighter tomorrow for all Malaysians !!

Once the dust has settled, everyone needs to get back to work. The people has spoken but this is only the beginning with a long and winding road ahead. The PKR-DAP-PAS coalition must learn and not make the same mistakes of the past. Be humble and be merciful that this mandate given to you by the people is a huge responsiblility to be fulfilled with honour.
We must look ahead towards PRU13. In 5 states, we now have the opportunity to walk the walk and talk the talk. By making these states shining example of Good Governance, we can indirectly wake up some of our brothers and sisters in Johor, NS, Pahang, Malacca, Terengganu, Sabah and Sarawak from their slumber.
Congratulations and thank you to everyone. Good luck and all the best for the future …

I’m glad to see Malay also feels the impact to country in long run of dominant of UMNO. Like any other Malaysia born Chinese or Indian, we love Malaysia more than our ancestor country like China and India. However, with BN’s favour Malays policy and we always feel that non Malay being threaten and one day we will have to migrate to other country just for survival. Even today, many Chineses says there is no hope for their children to continue stay in Malaysia. They prefer their sons to study in oversea like USA and get a citizenship there. More and more talented people leave the country and let the Titanic Malaysia ship sink one day. As for UMNO favous UMNO elite continue to cause corruption within the BN leaders regardless of races, they all ‘pakat’ together to steal the country wealth that will cause the whole country to sink. If this continue, Malaysia will have no different than Philipines or Indonesia.
I love Malaysia because i was born in Malaysia and i grow here. My USA, Costa Rica and China friends says they are amaze to see 3 major races stay together in one country but they heard the feedback from the tour guide that racist issue continue to be the hot topic in Malaysia.
Let us Malay, Chinese and India stand up and build a really Malaysia Country just like USA and Singapore where race is not in their priority and we all help each other and share the wealth together.

Hi Kawan,
I had a thought today as I was cooking lunch.
I was so excited! I burnt the chicken!
In 4-5 years time we will have a crucial election. It seems to be generally agreed upon that this coming election will set the tone of Malaysia’s political-scape for the decades that follow. This is the true gift our recent 12th general election gave us. It gave us POSSIBILITY.
Now can you all remember what else will be happening in 5 years time?
2013
I’ll tell you!
MALAYSIA will be turning 50!
I mean Malaysia will be REALLY turning 50. Malaysia as we all know, was born, came into being on the 16th of September 1963.
It would’ve taken us 50 years but my hope and prayer is that Malaysia will finally emerge as a truly mature democratic, multi racial, multi faceted, confident country with a vibrant and critical and RESPECTED parliament. When us as the citizenry will make judgements in elections based on performance – may the best candidate win! May the glory of the 12th general election be that we have restored parliament to its deserved place of reverence.
What’s in a date?
To me (probably exacerbated by being Sabahan), the much celebrated 2007 “50th year of Independence” celebrates the very important date/event of Malaya’s independence on August 31st 1957 which was vital to our coming of being and set the tone of our political governance but it is NOT the 50th anniversary of ‘Malaysia’. The implications were widespread to mean that Malaysia has been in existence for 50 years. This is not true. This mis-representation GREATLY disturbs me for these reasons:
– it is factually wrong historic data. If we can’t get Malaysia’s birthday right the implication is what else have we got wrong.
– Malaysia was formed on 16th Sept 1963 by Act of Parliament and is enshrined in the Federal (& State) Constitutions. To disregard this is to disregard our Parliament & our Constitution and to give greater weight to the history of the ruling party.
– That Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore were annexed by Malaya – also factually wrong. They were not annexed but along with Malaya were 4 independent entities that came together to form a new country. The implication otherwise is that Sabah and Sarawak replaced a colonizing power with another one.
– To celebrate 31st August by giving it a public holiday and to NOT celebrate 16th Sept and give it no such favour implies that Malaya is more important than Malaysia. I think this is downright traitorous to the idea of Malaysia. (For example – The Star newspaper for 2 years in a row did NOT publish a single word in the whole newspaper on 16th sept 2006/7 to even indicate it was Malaysia Day.) Please also note that we even celebrate Wilayah Persekutuan Day with marches and a public holiday but not Malaysia!?! Tun Fuad would turn in his grave.
– To celebrate 31st August (ironically) celebrates the British and overcoming a colonized past. To celebrate 16th September celebrates Malaysia, her peopleS and the future.
So what’s in a date?
Its just neat timing.
The next election COULD BE the greatest 50th birthday present imaginable to Malaysia and all that she can represent.
POSSIBILITY
A truly mature multiracial country with strong democratic practises and a vibrant critical respected parliament devoid of autocratic rule. That would be a nice present from Bangsa Malaysia.
cheers!

All those retired and people in the private sector who years of experience should now come out and assist the young Yang Berkhidmats. From what I know so far there are already vultures who are knocking on the doors of the ADUNs and MPs to serve them but with money in mind.
All of us should take one task and help them, spread the heavy burden the younger ones have to handle.
For instance, I have experience with citizenship, birth certifcate and IC issues. I will volunteer once a fortnight to help my MP or ADUN.
The Peoples Parliament could help organsise a database etc. We need to meet and discuss.
The young YBs and MPs need our help.

Now that the opposition parties have won control of 5 state government and deny BN two third majority in the parliament, do the next stage by petition for a Royal Commission on Electoral Reform (RCER) in Malaysia.
If you want to have a better future for our children in Malaysia, do you bit by signing the on-line petition at http://bersih.org.
Why do we need to reform the Election Commission?
1) the discrepancy between number of voters in urban and rural seats is too great. The smallest parliamentary seat (Federal Territory, Putrajaya) has only 6,608 voters while the parliamentary seat for Kapar in Selangor has 112,224 voters. What this means is that one vote in the Putrajaya parliamentary constituency is equivalent to 17 votes in the Kapar constituency.
2) A common tactic is to ‘buy’ the identity card of the voters. Party members will then vote on the voters’ behalf. Random checking of a person’s identity must be conducted using those finger print checking device. Any voting done on another person’s identity must be made a serious offence under the election law.
3) The rules on postal voting must be reviewed, tightened and amended. The current rule favours the ruling party as the armed forces personnel and policemen who vote by ‘postal voting’ would obviously not jeopardize their career or promotion prospect by voting for the opposition.
