Yes, Pak Lah, you’re going down.
Meanwhile, your pre-election promises of 2004 remain outstanding.
Yes, you owe us big time.
Can’t speak for the others, but if you can see the following through before you go, I’ll treat your slate with me as wiped clean.
1. Give us the Commission for the appointment and promotion of judges
2. Give us the IPCMC.

I’m hopeful that something will be done with the judiciary tomorrow night. From the Malaysian Bar’s website:
PM to deliver special address

Tuesday, 15 April 2008 10:24am
Dear Members,
I am pleased to inform members that, at short notice, the Bar Council is hosting a dinner sponsored by the Government on Thursday, 17 April 2008, where the Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi will deliver a special address entitled “Delivering Justice, Renewing Trust”.
The judges from the 1988 judicial crisis or their family members will be present. Other invited guests include the retired judges, senior members of the judiciary, members of the Bar such as past Office Bearers, Committee and State Bar Committee members, civil society organisations and diplomatic corps.
And also, I’ve seen this on the Malaysian Insider:
http://malaysianinsider.com/mni/stern-test-this-week-for-abdullahs-will-to-reform.html
KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 — This could be a watershed week for judicial reform in the country if Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi bashes us through resistance within his Cabinet.
The Insider understands that he wants to set up a Judicial Commission, is keen on amending the Constitution to return judicial powers to the courts and drawing a line under the 1988 judicial crisis.
These moves will improve the selection and promotion of judges and strengthen the separation of powers between the judiciary and the executive, which was blurred through a combination of constitutional amendments and the sacking of three Federal Court judges in 1988.
I’m very hopeful that he’s going to do what we hope he’ll do and restore the judiciary

Yes, let us at least have a last (if not the only) Hurrah from you! At this juncture, these minimal acts would not only leave you with some semblance of a redemption but more so you would do a great service to the rakyat whom you are servant leader of. Let us have something positive to remember your years as PM!

Haris, I agree with you 100%. If Pak Lah can achieve the above three, I will salute him and the history will remember his contributions to this country. How are we going to tell our next generations that a suspected murderer and weapons purchaser who “hentam” the RAKYAT’s money is being asked to become the RAKYAT’s leader. And how can the RAKYAT live in peace if increasing crime rates continue to plague us.

This BAr Council dinner..if last minute thing…is it a last breath thing before Badawi leaves? To Mahathir any gesture on Badawi’s part reconciling with Salleh Abbas and the other judges would be undermining his legacy. But Badawi is USING other people’s misery to get at Mahathir and to make himself look good. Collateral, people hopefully benefit.

Dear Freedom Fighters, both Online & Offline…
I have been supporting the boycott the newspapers initiative for sometime & I have done my push & pull marketing rather we’ll around my circle of family, friends & contacts. A few have stopped buying, some don’t already. A lot whom still want to purchase the papers, I passed on the info – which was the worst in all mediums & urged them to switch to the least worst. For English papers, the worst was the The Star (Spinning & BN coverage). Data can be found on the People’s Parliament.
Now, the story. I have noticed that some, are still purchasing the newspapers, expecially “The Star” every now & then, especially on Saturday’s for… “The Recruitment Section!”
So, I urge all those whom support this cause to pass the word. Only get your recruitment information online. Do not purchase the msm & even browse through it.
PR & others (mid-long term effort), get more beginner computer classes up. Teaching people to use the comp, get the news, browse & apply for jobs, using the email, etc. Keep the fees very low, give it free to the very poor, catch the young, educate! PR, set up a IT centre in the poor areas, with news printed out & pasted there regularly. Put up a few PCs with internet connections for the poor to share & use for free during office hours.
Check out MT article “My Version of the Truth” by RPK, for some related info.
Thanks, please pass the word!

Hey, the honourable PM is also a human being. He cant achieve all the promises when his surbodinate is useless. At least he is more open in exposing some of the scandal that you dont see or hear during Dr. Mahathir time. He need more time and the first thing he need to do on this second term is to release the Hindraf detainee and show the rakyat he is the BOSS. Secondly rule his own party with an iron fist. It really does not pay to be nice sometime.
adel,
Maybe Pak Lah is boss to you. In my book, sorry, we are the BOSS!
Rule his party with an iron fist? Can he run it, in the first place?

Mahathir will rule if Najib takes over.
He will remote control from behind, Mahathir owes it to Tun Razak, Najib owes it to Mahathir, then it will be Mukhriz owes it to Najib…………..
We dont want to political dynasty here. The whole nation doesnt have to be grateful to Tun Razak for accepting Mahathir back to UMNO.
If Mahathir feels sooooooooooo obligated to Tun Razak, he can go and sit at Tun Razak’s grave and cry there everyday……..

There are loads of things he could do from 2004 till the fateful 8/03 but he chose not to. For that he is guilty of every accusation levelled at him.
More so I agree with you Haris, that the least our outgoing PM could do is to not allow Najib to move up.

The sleeping beauty
The sun and moon he won’t see
He walks with his eyes close
He doesn’t know what to do
His advisors telling him
So many things he forgets
In his mind he thinks it is easy
Seeing the billions
On his corridors thing
Now the ground he works
The potholes have known
Yet he pretends he doesn’t know
He lets others keep harping
Until they get tired of his inaction
He has no choice
One day he said after him would be Najib
To run the show in the country
As if it is his right to say so
It is the people who would decide
Now the people watch
Pakatan Rakyat moving in for the kill?
BN/UMNO will be buried in the potholes
It is time we say goodbye
Enough of the arrogance
Enough of the deception
Enough of the corruption
BN/UMNO still never learn
Yo Pakatan Rakyat!
When will be the day the frogs hopping in?
A new day must come to Malaysia
A new team to steer the country’s affairs

In the interest of protecting the sacred office of the Judiciary in our country, the Bar should organise a massive campaign to pressure the government and/or the Agong to reform Judiciary beginning at the highest levels. I am reminded of the Mongolian murder case trial when the name of Najib was mentioned by one of the witnesses, only to be shouted down by the Judge, the prosecuting lawyers, and even the DEFENCE lawyers! Certainly, we ordinary citizens (seen as fools) cannot help but wonder if Najib is really involved directly in the murder. I read in one of the blog entries, someone claiming that his ‘very reliable sources’ told him that Najib himself shot the lady and ordered ARB to dispose of the body. This damn ‘elegant silence’ thing from Najib, amidst the accusations levelled at him openly by Anwar and others, is just getting too loud. Wonder when he is going to shut the damn noise out. Not to mention the sickening episode of the shameful Lingam tapes, completely condemning our Judiciary to Hell. I’d like to see Mahathir tell the truth before he dies. God doesn’t forget, and I know he is lying when he said he ‘sudah lupa’.

We consider Najib a untrustworthy character. What about Anwar? Is he so trustworthy now despite doing nothing as DPM?
No, he did do something, fan religious and racial disharmony for political gain. Now we embrace him….
Choosing Anwar because he is not in UMNO does not make any sense when measured based on his performance and ability. What short memeories we have.
Avtaran,
Have I overlooked someone in trying to suss out the options open to us? If I have, perhaps you could point this individual out.
In concluding that perhaps Anwar is the only option given the other discernible candidates, not once did I ascribe trustworthiness to him.
Hence, I underscored the need for civil society vigilance.

Pak “Takapa” Lah is definitely going down…no question ask.
Many outstanding promises remain merely as talk but no actions…
Here are fews:
1) 6 new Chinese schools to be built
2) More representation from East Malaysia in the cabinet
3) Price hike in common foods and petrol
4) subsidy to state controlled by opposition yet to allocate
I just hope that before he really step down:
1) Demolish the NEP
2) Demolish the education quota system
3) Revive and upright the judiciary system
4) Remove the obsolete ISA
5) Restore the ACA
But reality, I do not think he has the luxury time to do all this, his time is numbered. 🙂
Again, his succession, Najib is not any better than him… no principle and based on his standing now in this um-no crisis, he is also in deep shit…with all the scandals and corruption. He should also step down as well.
Um-no and BN is irrelevant and they are running out of time and stems to restore their party back to its glory time.
Time for change has began.

How can this anticipated apology dinner be sincere now that the greater return for Badawi is to permanently damage Mahathir’s legacy and to gain for himself the honour of the guy who put right the judiciary. He could have done it anytime in the last 4 years. Why now? Politicians use anyone who is convenient I suppose.
How can this also be sincere when at the same time this same Badawi finds it necessary to hold the Hindraf 5 under ISA detention together with all the JI detainees, some of whom have been there the past 6 years wothout being charged.
I just hope some brave lawyer will do the needful and ask this loser when he will release the ISA detainees. After all he is creating tomorrow’s headlines with the “support” of all you lawyers who will be in attendance. And you guys will be cheering him on while at the same time you will be demonising Mahathir and his legacy.

Haris,
You are asking for so little after being promised so much but then maybe you are being realistic. A little is better than nothing at all. I am hoping against hope something positive will happen at the Bar Council dinner on 17/4 even though my instinct tells me otherwise. After so many false signals, you just give up on the present administration and start cheering for the other side, no matter their lack of track record. At least, there will be change. And the promise of something better. Otherwise, this same old UMNO-BN shit will eventually destroy us all.

No, please no turncoat Najib please. He is the one we all ended up with Mahathir for soooooo many years. He voted for Mahathir in the fateful UMNO election for the UMNO Presidency instead of Tengku Razaleigh as promised, if anyone cares to recollect ! Like father like son-it is in his blood, who was the one who turned on the Father of Independence to become the second P.M. of Malaysia.
How can the present Cabinet charges Mahathir for misused of power as P.M.when most of them were in his cabinet, that will never happens? Did anyone of them raise any objection to the many oppressions Mahathir did all those years! So please no no no Najib.
Sigh! The same must be said of Anwar. That is my constant predicament!

Haris,
Anwar realised and thought he could take on Mighty Mahathir in 1998. He thought others in UMNO would support and rally around him like they did when they called themselves the Wawasan Team in 1993!!
For that he was thrown in jail, “trumped up ” charged with Sodomy and corruption, shamed, punched, kicked, stripped naked, stripped off his dignity, black eyed, sacked, demonised, shunned and made to suffer.
The moral of the story then was ” dont dare go against the President of UMNO aka Dr Mahathir ”
Since that day everyone in UMNO, esp those who hold cabinet positions witnessed something. Their balls ascended to their throats and were re named ” tonsils ”
malayamuda,
Tonsils will never be the same for me ever again! Thank you very much!

“Hey, the honourable PM is also a human being. He cant achieve all the promises when his surbodinate is useless.”
Nobody hoped for all the promises to be achieved. But he didn’t even achieve 1% of the promises. So why is he still keeping the useless subordinate around him?
“At least he is more open in exposing some of the scandal that you dont see or hear during Dr. Mahathir time.”
I wonder which scandal is exposed by Pak Lah? Cant recall any of them myself. He told somebody about his yacht? Or his new house in Perth?
“He need more time and the first thing he need to do on this second term is to release the Hindraf detainee and show the rakyat he is the BOSS.”
You mean his ‘BOSS’ ordered him to detain the Hindraf 5 during his first term?
“Secondly rule his own party with an iron fist. It really does not pay to be nice sometime.”
You know, ‘Weak’ and ‘Nice’ are completely two different things.

Avtaran Says:
“We consider Najib a untrustworthy character. What about Anwar? Is he so trustworthy now despite doing nothing as DPM?”
Yeah, I think he has nothing to do with some of the best years of Malaysia(at least financially) during the 90s.
“No, he did do something, fan religious and racial disharmony for political gain. Now we embrace him….”
You know, the BN ppl and the BN-influenced ppl always mention about Anwar=Religious/Racial. But when you ask them about the details, most of them cant answer you. The hindu temple bell? The chinese school assistant HM? These BN-spinned myth have been disproved years ago!
“Choosing Anwar because he is not in UMNO does not make any sense when measured based on his performance and ability. What short memeories we have.”
Why not you show us someone who has better performance & ability(irregardless of UMNO/non-UMNO), and we will choose him/her. My memory tells me that if Anwar is still in UMNO, he is highly likely the PM now.

Tonight’s Keynote address at the Bar Council is an encouragement in my belief.
AAB has been harassed, intimidated and “bullied” by a devil who could appear in many forms just to make himself heard by others. But it wil take time to pin him down and hang him.
Give AAB a chance. Do support him. He has been elected PM. So why not let him go on with building the nation and putting back in track?
He could have been complacent before. But the election results had shocked him into realisation! If he still doest not perform…… You know what we will do the next time around!
I still think there are flickers of hope in this man. I hope I would not be wrong.
