Received quite a few inquiries through the e-mail today about the law of sedition in our country.
I’m going to try and take the easy way out and refer you to a video clip of a forum on the law of sedition last year at the height of the Namawee controversy at which I had shared my thoughts on this piece of legislation on our statute books.
Hope it is useful.

Sounds like its up to the judge to decide what the definition of ‘sedition’ and ‘seditious’ is. In a situation where the judges are seen to be controlled by the executive, then I guess the executive decides? The people are screwed.

If you are reading my post, I like to make a suggestion here,
Would be obliged if you could direct all your respective state government agencies to post billboard pictures of RPK at every corner of the streets. Better still if you can post his pictures at every state government offices until his release from prison.
As a small token of our appreciation of this big than life Towering Malaysian: Raja Petra Kamarudin
and a reminder of our continual fight of injustices in this country.

Thank you Harris for that clear explanation.
It seems, unknowingly, we have been under ‘feudal’ law all these years in our own country! Sad!
And RPK have not only ruffled some feathers but have basically given these ‘angels in disguise’ the shits! Well, god is great – the truth will prevail. It will also give rise to more support for justice from the voices of the rakyat!

.
SEDITION :
1. incitement of discontent or rebellion against a government.
2. any action, esp. in speech or writing, promoting such discontent or rebellion.
3. Archaic. rebellious disorder.
Nothing mr. editor wrote alludes to such.
dpm is not the government. he is only the person in questioned.
SO
Dpm was wrong. He is still wrong. He will always be wrong.
Picture this …
Against others simple and humanly request for equality he wanted to bathe in their blood.
This clearly shows that dpm is a mentally unstable person.
If you can stretch your imagination about him beyond his infamy slogan of bathing in the blood of others you will not fail to imagine what he is gonna do when confronted with their welknown abuses of power and greed.
Power and greed are the main cause of homicide.

RPK I Salute u. Those guys will shit their pants out. They are checked mate. They thought that they can intimidate you by (ab)using the law. They are wrong. They will regret it. All right thinking Malaysians will rally in support of this man who is willing to go to prison to stand up for our rights. No intimidation or threats will stop him from expressing his opinion. I pray soon and very soon the pepertrators will not only be feeling the heat from the Rakyat but also from hell. ALLAH WILL NEVER FORGIVE THEM.

Harris
I understand from The Sun news report that you are part of the defense lawyers for the other person charged with making seditious remarks. Hope you can shed some light as to when will his case be heard.
Regards
Moses,
The case has been set for hearing on 10th June on a preliminary issue as to whether the charge is groundless and / or defective

This is an outrage. How can the people stand for it when the powers that be have taken one of their own? They are trying to shut down one voice but they are going wilt at the chorus of voices that rising because of this injustice.

Read this “opinion” published on April 27 (the Star):
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/4/27/focus/21075118&sec=focus
And below is the letter I wrote to the editor the following day in response to the published letter. My letter wasn’t published for whatever reason, but in light of current events, I feel that the government is up to something and is looking for ways to silence the online community (read: us).
Dear Editor,
I refer to the letter “Regulate Bloggers to Ensure They Stay Responsible” by Young Parent. I am somewhat confused by the writer’s stance. Young Parent, in the beginning of the letter, applauded the Government for not restricting people from expressing their views in the cyberspace. But, further down in that same letter, Young Parent urged the Government to “monitor racist and immoral comments on the Internet” and that “preventive measures should be taken against those responsible.”
I am confused because Young Parent supports and applauds the Government for not restricting the freedom of expression initially but turns around and appeals to the Government to prevent people from expressing their views to protect the society at large.
So, you want freedom of expression but you want the Government to curtail that freedom on the basis that some comments are “racist” and “immoral” in nature? What is the yardstick used to measure what is moral and what is not?
Granted, there is a fair share of comments and writings out there that are not constructive at all and have no basis whatsoever. But, as thinking individuals, are we not capable of differentiating right from wrong? Are you saying that we have no way of distinguishing between comments that border on bigotry and racism from those that are truly constructive and wholesome? Are we that gullible as to believe everything we read that we need the Government to police the Internet?
As a parent, you have the responsibility to teach your children right from wrong. As a parent, you, not the Government, dictate what value system you want to instill in your children.
Yes, we would like to see more constructive criticisms and sincere thoughts, but we certainly do not want to live in a nanny state where the Government goes around hunting people who make “immoral” comments.

Do you know that http://www.Malaysia-Today.net is not accessible?
What I don’t know is what is happening out there. Has the government put a clamp on the Malaysia Today site, or has the server crashed ?
To Ms. Helen Ang’s question — Is “Cina Babi” not seditious?
Please ask them UMNO MPs. They are the ones uttering that phrase INSIDE the parliament.

” Cina Babi ” is seditious…….. depends who says it.
If Karpal Singh says it, it’s seditious.
If Khairy says it , he’s fighting for his race, so no problem !

Our RPK has refused bail and wants to be in prison till his hearing in court. Gone are the days where even the enemies who put prisoners of conscience like Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela in a cell will honor these prisoners integrity. Now it is the age of hyenas. One can be attacked in anyway by their masters instruction and can be cleverly disposed of. Did you not read that a single individual being attacked by a group of cowards. They will not appear face to face and one to one. Do not sacrifice yourself. The new rule of the game is to outlast them in their treachery and come out as a winner and not a martyr.
