‘Islam is a beautiful religion. It is a practical religion. It must be known for its values and compassion. It is not about punishments or banning this or that. This has unfortunately happened. Islam is not about force. Substance is more important, let’s not forget’ – His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor, in theStar today, responding to a question on the controversy surrounding the recent fatwa on yoga.
The interview with His Royal Highness is a ‘must read’.

The ruler still used the words ‘social contract’, which is not in the constitution.
It is time to call for a Commission for Review of Article 153 with a View to Abolishment.
All parties including the rulers may provide their input to such a commission.

Read it this morning too. It gave me a good feeling that we have a caring Ruler. From what i have seen lately, The Rulers have been giving a good account of themselves. This will put the politicians in check. We need them.

Well said and expressed in plain simple language. May I had the religions of Christianity, Hinduism and Buddhism are all beautiful too and they all promote human values and compassion. It’s only the politicians and the fanatics who distort these values. They all do not survive civilisation for 2000 years for nothing.

haris,
at the moment the world does not see the beauty of islam as espoused by tunku idris. many quarters have said that the writings in the holy book is absolute and hence beyond any dissertation. some of those writings or verses within or beyond context do not support human rights; rights of women; multi-ethnic/multi-culture/multi-religious world; propagates violence based on race and religion; overtly creates a dichotomy between believers and non-believers; and with the underlying theme of post-dated benifits against present endeavours. moreover tunku idris also mentioned the oft-called existence of a social contract. as a result of bringing all these contraditions into the present workings; what have we left with? abandoned rights; supremacy of birth; forsaking what it should be all about?? i sincerely would suggest a soul seeking/searching/stripping exercise on the parts of the powers to be in order to comprehend the present dilemma. to ponder bro………….

Religion is a private matter between an individual and his God. It has nothing to do with the politicians. But they can’t leave well alone as religion is a very useful tool for thought control. It is UMNO’s favourite weapon to control the Malays and for divide-and-rule of the others.

I would like to share a touching story regarding this interview.
Haris, if you have any chance, please share this with as many people as possible.
The next day after the interview came out in The Star, Sin Chew daily also published the translated version (Mandarin) of the interview.
A 70-year-old lady read it. Then, she called up to Sin Chew daily and said she is really touched with what the Sultan said. She said, the Sultan spoke out everything inside her heart.

This 70-year old granny asked SinChew for a favor: she would like to give something to the Sultan of Selangor as a gift, to show her respect to Sultan – a gold chain with a gold locket engraved with the word “寿(shou)”, which means “longevity” in english.
Even though she knows her gold chain means nothing to Sultan, but she hope that the Sultan will be blessed with healthy long life.
It was a touching story and I hope that one day, the Sultan of Selangor will come to know about this and know how much Rakyat love the Sultan.
