Last Monday, in Parliament, Karpal asked Najib if he had raised a keris at an UMNO youth rally in Kampung Baru in 1987 and uttered racist words to the effect that the blood of the Chinese would be spilled.
Najib flatly denied making such utterances.
The next day, in response to Najib’s denial, RPK published a post entitled ‘In response to Najib’s denial in Parliament yesterday’ in which Pete reproduced a press release by YB Lim Kit Siang dated 27th April, 2007.
In that press release, YB Lim alluded to a Government White Paper entitled “Towards Preserving National Security” wherein the goverment had reported that, quoting YB Lim, ” in an Umno Youth rally led by Najib on 17th October 1987, banners bearing strong words were displayed, including one which said: “SOAK IT (KRIS) WITH CHINESE BLOOD” ‘.
Yesterday, I got my hands on that White Paper.
It’s a damning document of the messages of hate that emerged from that rally 22 years ago.
I also got my hands on reports on 18th October, 1987 of that rally that appeared in our then still largely independent MSM.
Malaysiakini reported yesterday that Anwar had said, “I was not at the rally, I was the Umno vice-president then… it was organised by Umno Youth and by Najib, (so) I have to just take Najib’s assurance and denial in Parliament,” and “…I am not in the position to discuss or accuse Najib, because I am not aware of what he had said,” and “To be fair, my only statement is that, Najib has denied… but documents and banners are available (and) there were very extreme positions, racist and extreme demands and statement (on them),” and “it is best for Najib to make it clear, if there were excessive (statements) made… and admit it, so that we can move on”.
Let me just say now that what Anwar is reported to have said is amply supported by the White Paper and the news reports of 18th October, 1987.
Yesterday, the Malay Mail reported Karpal as now saying that “I wanted to know if he said it, and he gave his answer, let’s just leave it as it is, the matter should not go on further,”
I disagree with YB Karpal.
Why should we leave it as it is? Why should we not pursue this matter any further?
Don’t we have the right to know the kind of man who purports to lead this nation forward?
Was Najib at the UMNO youth rally on 17th October 1987?
Yes.
Was he leading that rally?
He was then acting UMNO youth chief. I’d say yes.
Did he raise the keris and issue words to the effect that the blood of the Chinese would be spilled?
Don’t know.
Even if he did not, was he not leading a rally that had on display enough paraphanelia that spelt out the threat to spill blood of a particluar segment of our Malaysian community without the need for Najib or anyone else to vocalise it or brandish weapons?
Is this not enough to make his denial in Parliament last Monday somewhat hollow? Deceitful?
Again, that government White Paper and the 1987 news reports bear this out.
Now this man wants us to swallow his 1Malaysia hook, line and sinker .
Does he not first owe this nation an explanation?
Does he not first owe us all an unqualified apology?

Bro,
An ex-Bernama reporter wrote the following at Rocky’s –
zv said…
Yeah… he said it alright…that incident ws only 21 years ago la, not 30 years…
And he was not alone in doing this, in fact the others had fanned the atmosphere to point of being that the TPCA Stadium was supposed to be the remake of the a la May 13 launching pad to lynch sombody or some group of people.
Mat Taib was among those who were there to “lend support” and support they did, to the point of being culpable…there was a banner in the background which had an image of a keris drippping with blood…
Lee Kim Sai was to be blamed also for his hard words had “offended” the Malay leaders. These blokes were retaliating to that…
Hey, i was there reporting the rally for Bernama…

Whether he actually uttered those infamous words is beside the point.
The banners proclaiming them were prominently displayed for all to see.
As a leader, he should have taken steps to remove them or admonish those who put them up.
Keeping silent is tacit approval and support of such extreme views..
Najib will NEVER get my vote !!

Denial has been the traditional culture of all BN people. Why deny something which has happened and actually recorded as history?

Haris, kalau ada itu MSM report for 1987, scan it adn put it up, we want to see whether he actually said those words because that is the accusation
don’t cop out and say that it is about the banner pulak… banner sapa pun boleh letak, kalau dia tak nampak macamana? kalau gambar itu diambil sebelum dia sampai dan banner to dibuang selepas itu macamana
if you are interested int he truth you would also question this
as for anwar fanbiy media, the gospel of pete is that he said it and you guys even created a wikipedia entry for najib saying that what he allegedly said was widely reported and when we check the three notes (35), (36) and (37)… the earliest ws the 2007 Press release by LKS, a malaysia insider comment on the same report and a n aliran article commenting on the same report… so the widely reported appears to stem fro mone Press release 20 years after the fact….
read it all here
http://marahku.blogspot.com/2009/06/all-evidence-came-20-years-after-event.html
… mana reports from the year, scan it and publish it in your blog so we can see how ti was reported, whether reporters on the ground actually heard those words coming out of Najib’s mouth.
If not then you are a worse spinner than Rocky or any BN supporters who you claim are spinners… at least they don’t stand on a high horse and claim to be guardian of human rights and morality lah….
shamsul yunos,
Did he raise the keris and utter the words?
I said I don’t know.
The point I seek to make in this post is that sometimes you do not have to utter the words. Your stance and the surrounding circumstances may amount to your saying as much.
Scan the paper and put it up? All in good time. Meanwhile, I’m sure you have access to the archives at all the MSM. Go dig it out yourself and put it up on your blog.
Check my post. I did not say the news reports had it as asked by Karpal. Please don’t put words in my post.

BTW that picture at the start of RPK article is typical of his and your misleading ways, it was created in 2008 by a pastor and now it is pasted at the head of RPK’s article as if it was an original report of the event or intended to look or create and impression as if it was an original report of the event

why wait till now to deny? why not in 1987 to calm things down. He was the leader and should have taken action to bring down banners which are worded such that will cause problem.
anyway why deny now?

At the very least as the person who led the procession Najib should now distance himself from those bearing inflammatory messages.
It is just foolish to just end it with “I didn’t say anything racist so YB Karpal should apologise”.
Unless he is not distancing himself for other, as yet unstated, reasons?

bro,
Correct me here, was it also on the night of 18th. October 1987 that a certain Private Adam something, armed with a M16 went on a shooting spree mayhem and brought the whole city to a stand-still, killing 1 chinese and 1 malay and fatally injuring another malay in the Chow Kit area ?
Was he motivated or “inspired” or “worked-up” from the frenzy the evening before at the TPCA rally ?
He was later certified “mentally unstable” by the authorities though. Sad indeed cos on Monday morning (19th.)I couldn’t get to my office in Plaza Pekeliling. Just curious !
Bro,
You’re right about the night of the 18th.

The 2nd May 13 would have started on that if not for the power of God.I remember. First LKS was fighting about the NS highway given to cronies. Some Bumi Companies who quoted the lower price but not cronies did not get the project. To divert attention from this Corruption by the Mamak ******* Mahathir, he sent headmasters and Senior Assistants who do not speak Mandarin to Chinese schools. All opposition parties started attacking this action and the Mamak ******* Mahathir purposely turn it into a racial issue. The rally was called by UMNO Youth to protest against the Chinese Educationists and opposition parties. I saw a TV telecast with Najib and the banner behind him. God cause a thunderstorm to occur on that day with thunder and lightning and the clash did not happen. Anybody can obtain some press photos or TV footage that shows Najib and those ******* UMNO Youth leaders in front of the banner? May God curse vcme if this is a lie. If this is not a lie, let God curse the leaders of UMNO of the past and present esp the Mamak ******* Mahathir.

To me, it doesn’t matter whether he uttered the words or not. The fact that he led a rally where a banner was put up with those words and picture of a soaked keris, tells me very clearly what a BIG TIME LIAR AND RACIST he is. We cannot allow a BIGOT to rule this country. And he is repeating his tactic by allowing Utusan Melayu (Meloya) / Awang Selamat to write what he really thinks. If that’s not instigating the Malays against the Chinese, I don know what is. It’s open instigation. And it will only ruin the people.

If he had made that remark, demonic spirits are released and will continue to plague him to carry out those words unless and until he renounce and break it. I believe he was pressured or carried away as a young man, but now since he is PM and more mature he should be responsible enough to unsay those words. Never underestimate words uttered no matter innocently, for in the spirit realm they will activate a force for good or evil.Everyone make mistakes, but it takes courage to admit and rectify and move one. This is a mark of a great man and its a shame because our Najib is such a polished and learned man.

Fact remains that Najib did lead a rally that carried all those banners and overtones. That fact is not can cannot be denied. Even the UMNO Youth website sings glory of that (they also sing high glory of Anwar then too).
Fact remains that Ops Lalang net over 100 people, including social activists and NGOs personnel, but Najib who was leading and instigating a potentially explosive situation was left untouched. He was not even taken in under ISA for HIS OWN PROTECTION!
Which posed a greater danger to the nation’s stability? Someone firing up a segment of the people and verbally whipping them up into a frenzy, or an activist who was only fighting for compensation for the victims of the Asian Rare Earth incident?

I watched that newscast too. I don’t remember exactly what Najib said but I can never erase from my memory the image of him standing and haranguing the cheering crowd, ratcheting up anti-Chinese sentiments. At that point I was convinced violence was imminent.
While I don’t know whether Najib actually uttered the words, “soak the keris in Chinese blood,” I do know that he was a key player in that rally because I watched it on TV.
Frankly, I hate what’s happening now. I hate all this talk of Malay unity when Malaysian unity is what is important. 1Malaysia is meaningless as long as the man who promotes it continues to deny his past indiscretions and refuses to disavow communal politics.

Do you hear this, Shamsul Yunos? Citizens of this country actually saw on TV on that fateful night, Najib “standing and haranguing the cheering crowd, ratcheting up anti-Chinese sentiments”.
Even if those words did not come out from his own lips then, all those banners with ‘soak the keris with chinese blood were all around him, so were all the racist comments coming out from the crowd. If Najib is at all prime minister material and his 1Malaysia is inclusive of all Malaysians, the right and decent thing to do is to apologise NOW that he is the PM of Malaysia for what happened during his tenure as UMNO Youth Head/Deputy Head to seek a closer and move on.

Of course he said it. That is not the point. The point is, in Malaysian context, what should he have done?
The problem with what Najib did in Parliament is it was predictable, very mediocre. Did he not expect this question to come up once he started on 1Malaysia idea?
The man is no intellectual although he likes to speak like he is and pretend he is. He is more fluff than real. Its not he is without substance but for his job at this time, he is just lucky NOT deserving.
The problem is the job now calls for someone actually really good, someone better and he is not it. He does not deserve to stay long. His moral duty is to find someone who can do the job better than he because no one is expecting him to do a great job although they want him to. That is why people are highly critical of him because they know he must not stay long. Malaysian voters know they must have someone better and the faster he goes the sooner they have someone better to take his place.

The only true Malaysian leader of intergrity, ablity, substance and vision was the first PM, Tuanku Abdul Rahman. The others who followed as PMs were just mediocre racists who created and used divisive policies of the NEP kind to divide and rule.
None were true leaders of all the races in Malaysia. They were only jajuh kampung who could only relate to the rural folks and take them for a jolly good ride.
The worst of the lot was the Mamak a/l Iskandar Mohamad Kutty. He abused his power as PM and turned Malaysia into his personal fiefdom with the other donkeys in MCA, MIC, GERAKAN and the beggar coalition partners from Sabah and Sarawak playing second fiddle to him.
Najib could not have done what he did during the said assembly at TPCA stadium without the blessings of the despicable Mamak. He would have encouraged Najib and others to show he is a TRUE Malay, more Malay than anyone else.
Najib denying about his purported anti-Chinese remarks is nothing new. He is a habitual liar. When he gets cornered he would resort to swearing on the holy Quran. A good and devout Muslim will not sully the holy Quran for personal gain. But then Najib is a UMNO Muslim who is above God and the laws of the nation.
Najib is in denial mode. He is another Lingam who is notorious for his infamous words of denial: looks like me, sounds like me but it is not me. The best part is he got away scot-free.
Is it any wonder Najib is following Lingam’s modus operandi? The MSM is there to lap it up and give the widest coverage.

When you lead UMNO Youth organising such a function, you are indeed being an interested party in allowing such phrases to be displayed. These words angered all parties both Chinese and Malays for sure.
Whether you said these words is immaterial. This stance showed the true inner self of a person.
Such a person is not fit to lead a multi-racial and multi-cultural nation like Malaysia.
The UMNO Youth leader then must have given the go-ahead to make those seditious banner anyway.
