There was a time when a king could do no wrong.
Actually, it was not that the king could do no wrong, but one was not to notice the regal cock-up.
And if one did notice, one was not to advert to it.
Talk of the king boo-booing was treasonous.
And if such talk reached the ears of the king, you were liable to have your head parted from your neck.
But that was then.
Much has changed since.
Changed so much that, in some jurisdictions, kings who have done wrong have had their heads parted from their necks, by their very own subjects.
But that was then.
Much has changed since.
These days, people do not resort to the vulgarities of the past.
At least, more often than not, they do not.
Us, for instance.
We have laws.
And a supreme Constitution.
Supreme over all.
Without exception.
And just as it laid the foundation for our system of a constitutional monarchy with a unique system of rotation to fill that monarch’s position from amongst our sultans, so too the Constitution entrenched the fundamental rights of the monarch’s subjects.
Neither monarch nor subject can deny to each other what the Constitution bestows on both.
Take the recent decision of Her Ladyship, Justice Lau Bee Lan in the Herald case.
What did Her Ladyship declare?
I haven’t had the good fortune to read her written grounds of judgment, but, according to this Malaysiakini report, the learned judge had ruled that the “Catholic weekly The Herald can use the word ‘Allah’ and that the term is not exclusive to Islam” and “that all Malaysians had the constitutional right to use the word ‘Allah’ under Article 11 of the federal constitution which guarantees freedom of expression and freedom of religion and the practice of it”.
That decision is under appeal to the Court of Appeal.
Let’s say that, much to our surprise, that appeal and a final appeal to the Federal Court fails.
That would confirm Justice Lau Bee Lan’s pronouncement to be good law.
Until her judgment is set aside on appeal, Justice Lau Bee Lan’s pronouncement represents the law.
That would mean that, as the good judge has pronounced, under the Constitution, all Malaysians shall have the constitutional right to use the word ‘Allah’ under Article 11 of the federal constitution which guarantees freedom of expression and freedom of religion and the practice of it”.
No one, be he king or pauper, can deny any Malaysian that right, whilst Her Ladyship’s decision stands.
It is incumbent upon every self-respecting Malaysian to not countenance any move, by any means, from any quarter, to deny any Malaysian that right.

Thais genuinely love their king but the same cannot be said about other countries (with monarch).
The monarchy system of Thailand will be there even if the Thai king is the last sovereign on Earth.
Perhaps monarchs around the world should look into the reasons why king Bhumibol Adulyadej commands so much respect and love amongst his subjects.
KK

During the 70s and 80s, there were many times Thai politicians and generals were at standoffs . When the situation became really critical, Thai king would intervene by summoning the Prime Minister and the army chief for an audience and all would be settled there and then.
Calm and stability would return immediately.
Can Malaysian monarchy commands this type of authority or tact ?
During the 1993 constitutional amendment, Dr Mahathir openly ridicule the monarchies ; he said “.. no, we still need the monarchies ,otherwise who would dish out the medals and titles ?”
If a Thai PM had uttered such words, I would imagine Thais would have demanded for his resignation and he would have no choice but to pack up and leave the office.
When king Bhumibol was ill recently, ordinary Thais truly prayed for his recovery and they were full of joy when their king was discharged from the hospital.
In Malaysian context,I bet most of the public would have looked forward for another day of public holiday.

Note to non muslims: Singing the Kedah state anthem in Pahang may cost you RM5,000 in fine or two years jail!
Pahang state laws prohibit certain words that non muslims cannot use, including the ‘A’ word. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Actually non-malays in Pahang can’t sing the Pahang state anthem.
Given how common the “A” word is in, I think it would be best for all non-malays to stop singing any state anthems. WE don’t want to insult islam or break the law do we?
Furthermore, as the words “nab1”, “Sye1kh”, “khal1fah” are illegal for non-muslims to write and speak, it would be best if non-malay PMR students skip the chapter of tamadun islam in Sejarah. Fining class fulls of 15 year olds RM2000-RM5000 and 2 year jail time is a bit much.
And give that “Masj1d” (only in melaka), “1man”, and “Haj1” are also illegal words, perhaps, non-malays should just skip learning Bahasa Melayu all together. You don’t want to be insensitive and step on other people’s sensibilities by accident do you?

n an Italian television program protesting the pending forced removal of crucifixes from Italian classrooms, this brave woman, Daniela Santanchè, stood her ground, repeatedly calling the Islamic prophet Mohammed a “pedophile,” while being shouted down by an angry Muslim man. She was applauded at one point by the majority of the audience, before a hostile Muslim male audience member jumped up and began raving. Yet, she continued repeating her remarks.
She had earlier been physically attacked and threatened with death for declaring Muslim women oppressed and attempting to remove the veil from a Muslim woman. We hope she will find some place safe from the members of the religion of peace. Can’t the Mafia protect this woman? Where is the Mob these days, while their country caves into Islamization?

I think malays are a confused lot when it comes to Islam. This is because we are taught to read the Quran without understanding the messages sent by God. Instead of teaching malays in understanding the messages of God as contained in the Quran and to practice and strictly obey all of God’s command, we spent useless time and money organizing Quran reading competition.
Most malays are also taught to pray 5 times a day without understanding what we are talking to God or Allah. Hence this misunderstanding about the word Allah.
God’s messages as revealed to Prop Mohammad through the Angel Gabrae’l was made in arabic since Prop Mohamad was an Arab. The arabic word for God is Allah. Therefore Allah is not the name of God. God and Allah is the same supernatural being Who has dominion over the Heavens and the Earth and all things within it. God is the English word while Allah is the Arabic word which refers to the same Thing. Thus it is not surprising that christian and jewish arabs used the word Allah.
According to muslims Allah or God has 99 names which we should know which is referred to ‘Asma Ul Husna’.
Why all this fuss about this triling issue of the arabic word ‘Allah’ which really mean God; the God of Abraham and all those who follow Abraham’s religion.

Sometimes the king is forgetful. He thinks that he is the all powerful. He forgets that he is a constitutional king. And he has sworn to uphold and defend the constitution. Just like many judges who have forgotten that they have sworn to uphold the constitution. They are mistaking the voices they are hearing as the voice of god. Why some of them think that when some holy book talks about the “chosen” people, they think that the chosen people are the Malays! A little more learning and a little humility will save us all – from the king down from making fools of ourselves.

As far as I am concerned, anyone who wants to preach religion must first live his religion.
To admire your doctrine is one thing, but to obey it is another.
To profess a religion is one thing but to practice it is another.
To love your Holy Book is one thing but to live it is another.
To be Hearers of the Word of God is one thing but to be Doers of the Word as another.
This is the problem we have leaders on our country on the wrong side.

Sir,
Royalty (Kings, Sultans, Raja, Emperors etc. whatnot) is a form of Caste System. The civilization has all evolved and every other caste (except the royalty) have all accepted that caste system is not relevant any more for this present time. It is only the few remaining royalties (the bulk of them are in Malaysia!) who insist on still practising this ancient old caste system of a long ago civilization. Even the Hindus who invented the caste system have already stopped practising it. India has no Kings, Sultans nor Rajas anymore.
Is there a Fatwa on the relevance of the royalty? Can we have one?

Excerpts on the Sabah 20 point agreement:
Point 1: Religion
While there was no objection to Islam being the national religion of Malaysia, there should be no State religion in North Borneo, and the provisions relating to Islam in the present Constitution of Malaya should not apply to North Borneo
Point 3: Constitution
Whilst accepting that the present Constitution of the Federation of Malaya should form the basis of the Constitution of Malaysia, the Constitution of Malaysia should be a completely new document drafted and agreed in the light of a free association of states and should not be a series of amendments to a Constitution drafted and agreed by different states in totally different circumstances. A new Constitution for North Borneo (Sabah) was of course essential.
Point 4: Head of Federation
The Head of State in North Borneo should not be eligible for election as Head of the Federation
More at – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/20-point_agreement_%28Sabah%29
(However, the 18 point agreement with Sarawak seems to be untraceable!)
——————————————————
On the premise of ‘No representation without compensation’ in a true democracy, it is intriguing that East Malaysia’s Heads of State should not be eligible to become the Head of the Federation i.e. HRH the King.
Therefore, the recent call from predominantly UMNO linked person(s) and/or organisations for the Rulers Council to intervene on this matter seems unjustified.
Let me put it another way – if oil producing states are only entitled to a 5% royalty, will the same premium be applied to the Rulers Council when this group has no locus standi on religious (read: islamic) matters in East Malaysia?

Dear Mr. Aiman, keep your doubts to yourself, because by saying so you are only showing, that you are ignorant of the facts of life.
Which are, that Malaysia is beautiful, because we are all such a mixed group of people, of different races, of different colours, of different languages, of different creeds and it is these differences that have made us such a famous and attractive country.
And are you aware or not, that your name calling.. Mamaks…is first of all very rude.If you have to be told, these people are the Indian Muslims of Malaysia. They are very important to Malaysia. They are the ones who are providing genuine hallal food and some of the best of Malaysian culinary delights, to name a few..nasi biriyani, roti canai, murtabak and, and….the list goes on, comes from their restaurants.
I bet you are also one of those who eats at a so called Mamak restaurant?
So mind what you say please. If as you say to quote you,”Muslims are bound by the Quran.” we would expect you to be serious,to be a little more polite on account of your adherence to the teachings of the Quran.
Obviously and I dare say, you have not really done a good study of the Quran?…so go back to learning the Quran, again, because that good book should first and foremost have taught you to be, at least more humble and to respect God’s people, no matter who or what they happen to be.

Bah sangat menyokong pendirian pemimpin2 PAS terutamanya Tn Guru Hj Nik Aziz berkenaan sokongan terhadap kejayaan perjuangan ‘Herald the Catholic Weekly’.

The chief of “1 Malaysia” and some of his umnoputras have insisted that Catholics should use “Tuhan” instead of “Allah” to address the Catholic or Christian God. But in the national anthem, “Tuhan” (not “Allah”) bless the country (…Tuhan kurniakan…). How now ?!!!. If Malay-Muslims are that easily confused as portrayed by some umnoputras, they must be thinking that Malaysia is blessed by the Christian God, and the Muslim God “Allah” is perpetually on leave. Perhaps, this confusion may cause the government to change the national anthem by replacing “Tuhan” with “Allah”. But then again, non-muslims will not be allowed to sing the national anthem. Then it would be non-muslims’ turn to be confused. If this issue goes to the courts, even the judges will get kepala pening. It is a fact that the word “Allah” has been used peacefully by Muslims, Christians and Jews ever since the dawn of the religions in so many other countries. Even in Malaysia, especially Sabah & Sarawak, “Allah” has been used by Malay speaking Christians for nearly 200 years. Why is it an issue now ?. It is very clear that this is one of the many ways that umno is using to stir-up religious and racial sentiment for their political survival. They are trying to instil confusion and insecurity among our Malay brothers and sisters leading to hatred towards non-Muslims so that they can divide and rule as lond as possible. I urge all Malays not to be influenced by umno. If you are strong enough in your Islamic faith, you would not be confused or feel insecure just because the word “Allah” is used by people of other faiths. You should feel magnanimous that Allah is shared by all mankind. So much for “1 Malaysia”!!!. It looks more like “1 Helluva confusing & divide and rule”!!!.
What do Christians in Sabah and Sarawak who supported BN get in return ? They should know the answers by now. Don’t be taken for granted and pushed around. Stop being BN’s “fixed deposit” in the next general election !!!. Vote for fairness, justice, unity and good governance. Vote for change !!!.

If the Constitution is regarded as the Supreme Law of the Land, shall it not be given the highest of respect.
Why is there no need for a Constitutional Court?
Such a court would rightly deal with matters pertaining to the Constitution.
In this country, where the Executive and the Legislative work hand in hand to thwart legal pronouncements, as would probably be the case with Justice Lau Been Lan’s, of what use would the High Court’s or the Federal Court’s verdict be, if either rules that the learned Judge’s pronouncement on the word Allah, is not correct.
Then Justice Lau Bee Lan’s pronouncement would be questionable…that would not be fair to her learning and intelligence.
And we have to swallow whatever else is handed down.
This is a weird country.
The UMNO Government should spend its energy on more pressing matters, like the environment, climate change, over-population, man-made economic disasters, the promotion of peace in the country, the eradication of poverty among the marginalized. Equality which will give us the status of One People, One Nation…. and what most people believe would be truly thoughtful.and beneficial to all.And the right education to help people understand and know.
These are the matters which concern the Ra’ayat and are more pressing than a word called Allah, which God himself is not battling over,or cracking his head over, as humans in this country are doing.
We are just wasting precious time….squabbling about God who is so silent. It would be interesting to hear from HIM.
Wake up Malaysia….don’t go back to the Dark Ages, please.

The DANGER of Ignorance:
All this talk about the issue on the usage of the word “Allah” is a non-starter in the 1st place. I’m actually one of those (and I am quite sure there are many more out there) who are very annoyed (in actual fact, really pissed-off!) by anyone who even dare to think that any “true” Muslim in this country can be that easily swayed in their religious beliefs just merely bcoz of a word?… as intimated by the ‘powers-that-be’ including the “so-called” religious scholars. Come on! Pls don’t ever insult our intelligence you “religious” morons & bigots! (but who can blame them?…coz morons are actually born with pea-sized brains that limit their powers of reasoning!) ehehehhee!!
To the ‘so-called’ Muslims out there who think they are so “righteous”, pls remember that it is very ‘clearly’ stated in the Holy Quran that: “… the closest friends of the believers are those who say, ‘we are Christians’…” and to our Christian friends, pls also know that the Holy Quran devoted the WHOLE Chapter: 19 (Maryam) on the story of Jesus Christ (p.b.u.h.) besides being mentioned on numerous occasions in various other chapters (too many to be mentioned here).
Come to think of it, I believe this (Quran) is The ONLY Holy Book in the World from time immemorial that mentioned Jesus (p.b.u.h.) and all his many miracles & IRREVOCABLY CONFIRMED his missionary on this earth (whilst this IS The Holy Book of the Muslim)!!! Now, I wonder why would the Quran do that? Interesting huh?… I mean there is No Way a HOLY BOOK of any other religion would go all the way to sing praises about the “Messiah” of “another” religion in it’s very own Holy Book! Unless… Come on Muslim & Christian bros & sis, put on your thinking caps… I stand to be corrected.
Now, for the real eye-opener for the uninitiated Christian friends: Do you people know that It Is THE “sacred obligation” of all true Muslim believers in this World to firmly believe (without protest!) that Jesus (p.b.u.h.) will also be the 1st. & ONLY Prophet to return to earth before the coming of the “end of days”, coz it’s also stated unequivocally in the Holy Quran! And that the penalty for any Muslim to ever even doubt about this will be the same as NOT believing in the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) himself! Coz the Holy Quran was narrated by him in the 1st. place!!
Now if all these have not stirred some interesting food for thoughts (or even stirred some hornet’s nest), I don’t know what else could. Ehhehehe!! I rest my case.
