The petition to the Pakatan Rakyat leadership, the Menteris Besar, Chief Minister and the Excos of the Pakatan Rakyat state governments to honour their pledge to the rakyat to take the necessary measures to ensure and safeguard the freedom of the press and, to that end, to publish, print and distribute at least one state government daily newspaper in the Malay language, may be viewed and endorsed HERE.
Please give this effort your support and get everyone you know to do the same.

Remember the tabloid, said to be political, Kabar Era Pakatan, that had 3,000 copies of its debut and 3rd issue seized by the Home Ministry?
Malaysiakini has a report on that HERE.
I got a copy of the 3rd issue last week.
Sorry, this is no political tabloid.
It’s nothing else but a Pakatan Rakyat propaganda tool, and not a very honest one, at that.
If you, too, have a copy of the 3rd issue, you will note that the lead story, with the headlines, “Najib, Razak Baginda tersenarai’ reports that Razak Baginda received commissions amounting to RM3.7 billion from the Scorpene purchase contract.
I thought the commission was in the region of RM500 million?
No?
I hope that the Pakatan Rakyat leadership have no illusions that Kabar Era Pakatan is anything than that : their propaganda tool.
The editor’s column, entitled ‘Minda editor’ in the 3rd issue, lends fortification to our call for an independent state government newspaper, without any delay.
The same is reproduced below.

Just to let you know, I met people from the reformasi street protests at the lawyers’ event at Bukit Aman (Re Amer Hamzah). They joined PKR when PKR was formed. They have since left PKR apparently for reasons that the PKR leadership are unable to take criticisms of the party and party leadership. So soon to be disillusiobed huh. Better now than later I say. They have joined PAS.

$3.7 billion refers to the cost of the 2 Scorpenis Submarines.
The “not a commission” (as confirmed by the Defence Chiefs, Defence Minister Zahid Hamidi, PAC and PM Najib, who else lied I don’t know) $540 million payment was to Perimekar S/B owned originally by Razak Baginda, then divested (50%?) to Boustead Co., for “co-ordination and support services”!!
One heck of a Mongolian service it must have been for $540 million!!
Reecently the Govt confirmed another submarine maintenance contract with BousteadDCNS for $270 million a year (for 2 subs) which after 10 years may rise to $600 million a year!!
The MoF has also not financed another $99 million per year contract for “search and rescue” services for the 2 subs.
However you look at it, these 2 submarines must the most expensive subs on the face of th eearth!!
French investigators now confirm that the “not a commision” agreement between DCNS France and RB/ Perimekar was a sham as they had no experience whatsoever in submarine construction, procurement, maintenance or servicing!!
The beauty of it all is that the $540 million has been fully paid, but the 2nd submarine has yet to be delivered!!

Think of another name. Utusan is a dirty word. Once a word is associated with something bad, it has no more value.
Last time we used “gagah perkasa” for power. Now, it’s about lunatic and idiocy. lol

Haris,
Fully support your article…
PKR has been too busy fighting all the small fires, it forgot the its promises…
Basically PKR has Weakness in Leadership at the Advisory level – Autocratic Attitude, Hutang Budi to Azmin, etc thus upsetting the other Political Divisional Leaders, Political will of Senior Leaders, Finance & Manpower Resource, Identification of Right Calibre, Grooming & Retention of 2nd & 3rd Line Echelon Intellectuals, Planners, Technocrats, etc, Ignoring the need to allow for new Associate membership for the Think Tank, Research & Development Team succession plan, etc.
Very senior & Senior members with Poor/Incorrect Calibre, Attitudes, Ideas, Execution & Implementation will only Stagnate the Party.
Forgot the its promises….too busy with “Skeleton” Manpower Resource, Finance, etc, distracted by all the small fires…
Why not give it a simple name like PKR Suara Rayaat sponsored by PKR on the latest PKR, DAP & PAS Joint Manifesto, Joint Progress & Developments, People Oriented Projects, Feedbacks, Q & A from ground Zero, etc., with minimum Propaganda & Recycled Rhetorics…
Actions & Deeds towards the grassroot’s Basic Rights, Amenities & NEEDS will speak louder than words !
Get Haris & all the SABM Bloggers to contribute articles to “Educate” the Rayaat & also remind PKR, DAP & PAS on their shortcomings if any – basically tapping ALL the Resources willing to help PKR, DAP & PAS as PR.
If DAP have their Rocket news, PAS have their Harakah why not learn from them…being silent will be PKR’s biggest mistake!
Cheers.

Not really.

Yes Haris, whack em,and show em. Thought is free. Thought is common, it is of the people, by the people and for the people.
But am sure you’ll know how to control.
Wow, this is already exciting news, lah! We’re all curious.
Oh when the saints….go marching in, in in…..let’s all be in that number.

Thank Goodness! I thot I was in the minority of those disillusioned with PR!!!
Guess who wont be voting PR next round??!
Despite liking SOME of the ppl there SOME of the time, but PR is turning me off.
PAS it is..for now.
It’s not abt the race or the religion..if the party has integrity & the heart’s in the right place. Unless there is an alternative to PR

Don’t be too sure and get overboard with PAS, wait till its VP Nasharuddin and his gang of religious extremists open their venomous mouth to antagonise! PAS has to be watched carefully too.

The short answer to wanting that pie in the sky now is that there is NO alternative to PR right now, unless of course you want more of the same excrement “governance”, or God forbid, worse, than that which UMNO/BN has been shovelling your way since independence.
Get a two political party/coalition system in working order first, then you can think of moving from there to other even better options to allow for more effective competition in your field of democratic politics.

Think of the bigger issues facing the country NOW ie corruption, the eradication of poverty among all marginalized malaysians, environmental pollution (no attention paid at all eg stink on our streets, the power the tycoons have over politics, the religious interference into the politics of this country.
And the still looming menace ofthe ISA, which we were told was going to be revised or revamped or whatever.
The injustice and inequality that exists as a cover up to the subtle suppression that is still strong.
The mis-use of police power.
These are the matters in the fore-front of the politics of this country, which we call Malaysia.
We do not even have a free press to talk about these things…shouldn’t we as citizens concern ourselves about these urgent matters, instead of gazing into a crystal ball, to talk about the competence of political parties.
There is so much to repair in this country, which none of the parties existing can hold a candle to. Sure some are trying, and we as citizens should chip in to help out whenever and wherever we can.
PR does not hold first rank just because, we find the BN so badly in arrears over social issues affecting the Ra’ayat.

Several months ago, I noticed an innovative response by the Penang State Government to inform the public on the actual number of hawker licenses that were being ‘penalised’. They put up banners on street corners to display the correct statistics of affected license-holders in order to counter, what in my opinion, was biased reporting in most other available newspapers. Well done PR-Penang. The proposed PR newspaper will definitely be a more effective tool to disseminate balanced information for the public.

Bottomline here is that, freedom of the press is essential and not an option. People must be free to learn of the truth, and BN is always hiding truth from the rakyat.

…Let the Rakyat hear the truth…. no more ‘warped” and “sanitised” news from these people.
Let the people decide on what and who is right or wrong ! Please dont insult our intelligence by saying otherwise and coming up with all kinds of idiotic excuses ! All will be judged by their deeds and not what they promise and say !
No more ” cakap tak serupa bikin & bikin tak serupa cakap !”
