A leave of absence from Saya Anak Bangsa Malaysia

Posted on November 2, 2010

When we launched the Saya Anak Bangsa Malaysia initiative last year, we knew that we had taken the first steps of what will be a long journey.

A non-partisan, people-driven journey to change the hearts and minds of the rakyat, in the hope of one day seeing this as truly a nation of a single people.

And yet, even as we march on, all the signs are there that the rakyat will soon be called upon again to make choices that will have a telling effect on the direction this nation will take.

I refer to the much spoken of 13th General Elections.

In April, I was involved in the soft launch of the very partisan ‘DNBN Kuburkan BN’ initiative at the Hulu Selangor by-elections.

That initiative has, unfortunately, been referred to by certain quarters as a SABM initiative.

This is untrue.

Of late, I have been very critical of PKR and its ongoing party elections in this blog.

Those criticisms have been read by some as criticisms by SABM.

Again, not true.

More recently, my involvement in efforts to push for an indpendent candidate initiative for the 13th General Elections has come to be spoken of as a SABM initiative.

There is no truth in this.

I expect that as we draw closer to the 13th GE, my involvement in efforts relating thereto will increase.

I love SABM too much to allow its non-partisan position to be  adversely impacted by the plainly partisan ‘DNBN Kuburkan BN’ position that I will increasingly take running up to the elections.

I have raised these concerns with the SABM coregroup and they fully understand these concerns.

It is with their full blessing that I now announce that, from today until the 13th GE, I shall take leave of SABM.
