OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERABernard Khoo aka Zorro Unmasked.

download (4)6 years ago, on this day, Zorro left us.

I first encountered Zorro at the Press Club in early 2007.

We hit it off instantly.

What happens, though, when you bring together two individuals who have strong opinions which may often differ, but will strongly put forth their case?

Sparks fly!!!

Yet, in all those raised voices, a mutual respect for each other grew for the other’s readiness to stand by what he believed.

Respect and love.

We made the trip to Penang in November, 2007 for the Saya Anak Bangsa Malaysia roadshow there. We had not made any arrangements for hotel accommodation. Early hours of the next morning, Shamila kindly allowed us to sleep on the floor of the hall in her apartment. Zorro had the bad luck to get the spot next to me on the floor.

When I woke up, a bleary-eyed Zorro was up, staring at me and said : “You f@#$%^g a*&^%@#e! I havent slept! Your snoring is worse than a misfiring cement mixer!

Both of us were at the Permatang Pauh bye-election to cover the same in our respective blog.

This time we got to share a room and a bed.

A single bed.

Zorro reckoned he had the misfiring cement mixer figured out.

We would sleep with our heads at opposite ends of the bed.

Next morning, Zorro had this to say : “You f@#$%^g a*&^%@#e! You think what, my nose is your toe warmer, ah? Bloody a*&^%@#e!

I insisted that he was looking to use my big toe as a pacifier.

This banter went on throughout the duration of our stay in Permatang Pauh.

Not once, did either request a change of room, or individual rooms.

We also shared rooms at the bye-elections in Kuala Terengganu in January, 2009 and Bukit Gantang in April, 2009.

Camaraderie, respect and love.

Kami anak bangsa Malaysia.

Miss you, bro, fights and all.
