What’s the normal, pre-diabetic, and diabetic blood sugar reading range?

In my last post, I mentioned how, after the 14th GE, the diabetic type 2 condition I was suffering from got very bad.

An HbaiC test gives you your average blood sugar levels over a period of 3 months.

Below, you will see my Hba1C test results for June, 2018, and August, 2018

9.8 in June, and 9.4 in August : both indicating diabetic with poor control.

Then, in September, thanks once again to Dr Sharifah, John and Carmen, I began the journey to take back my health.

I used my body as my own laboratory again, testing my blood sugar 3 times a day, fasting in the morning, post-prandial ( 90-120 minutes ) after my one main meal for the day, and again before going to bed.

Keto diet. No sugar. Negligible carbs.


Enough sleep.

Significant weight loss.

Significant lowering of the visceral fat level from 18 to 12.


October, I was already registering pre-diabetic readings

By late November, early December, I was registering non-diabetic readings.

No photos of readings then, but in late March, 2019, I started giving a series of talks in KL, then Melaka, and in JB, to share my experience.


Here’s a video of my blood test on the morning of the talk on 30th March in KL.

A doctor friend who saw my pandemic post advised that I should do a latest Hba1C to know my 3-month average as fasting blood sugar level in the morning may not reflect your sugar level throughout the day.

He would be right, of course, except that I regularly do random post-prandial tests in the course of the week and consistently register non-diabetic readings.

And I consciously avoid the sugars.

I do have cheat days, but because I now have a better understanding of how my body responds to what I eat, I am able to get myself back on track after 2 days of intermittent fasting.

Yes, reversing the condition is tough, initially, but the rewards are well worth it.

Learning to manage the condition at modest diabetic levels without any medication should be the first aim, and is not so difficult.

Relying on my own journey, I have worked out a 3-part program.
