My name is Haris Ibrahim.
I am with the ABU secretariat.
ABU is short for Asalkan Bukan UMNO.
Or, in English, Anything But UMNO.
ABU is on a mission, on behalf of the rakyat, to remove UMNO / BN from Putrajaya at the 13th GE, and to endeavour to have installed as the new federal government, a coalition that is pro-rakyat.

We have a secretariat office in Kuala Lumpur with a full-time co-ordinator.
And from the secretariat, several campaigns are being pushed to realise the hope of so many in the nation to see an end to the rape and pillage by UMNO / BN, and to bring justice and equity back to this nation, especially for those long marginalised and deprived of the most basic daily needs that most of us take for granted, and far removed from the opportunity of a decent education and economic progress.
These efforts cost money.
And because ABU is not a registered organisation, we are unable to open a bank account in its name to which funds from well-wishers and supporters may be remitted to.
On 2nd August, this year, ABU declared war against UMNO / BN.
The following day, through this blog, I made an appeal for financial help so that ABU may continue this war against UMNO / BN.
Much funds are needed to fight UMNO / BN.
I am now appealing to every Malaysian, both at home and abroad, to contribute as generously as you can, to the ABU Fund.

Dear Haris. We know that political campaigns require funds. Just look at the Americans – $2billion! Per capita, I would imagine Malaysia is not far behind. Your noble deeds of course is appreciated. But I cannot understand why you’re having to ask for funding from WIRA ABU’s when opposition parties and opposition leaning businesses could easily contribute, dwarfing the funds you’re currently accumulating.

Your message of ABU is clear. I’m not sure if your allegiance is to PKR or whether it is for the opposition, whoever it may be. In any case, the end justify the means. A bigger war chest will help spread the message more effectively. I understand that you don’t wish to be seen as an affiliate of PKR, but I certainly wouldn’t question your integrity if you did accept generous donations I have referred to. Bersih may be independent of political parties but ABU is not.
My allegiance is to the rakyat.
I work for the betterment of the 40% marginalised.
I owe no allegiance to any political party, PKR or otherwise, but will work with all parties who are similarly committed to ending the marginalisation of so many anak bangsa Malaysia.

It’s great to have open discussions on the ABU Fund. It is so rewarding having a word with the youth of today…they are wiser and know exactly why they are looking for the change that will give them the opportunity to have a reasonably clean government.

I sat at a table next to two young people at lunch….they looked friendly so I ventured an, “Have you registered to vote”.. They lost no time to say that they have certainly, and they know exactly who they will be voting for..They said that they would no longer be fooled.
Also took the opportunity to talk to them about ABU…..they immediately asked for Haris’s blog address and with their super IPad got the blog in no time…they learned about the ABU a initiative andcampaign, the ABU Merchandize Shope and what was most interesting was they picked out the slogan “We are many colours but One Nation” to say that this idea pleased them so much.
They laughed out loud when they heard what ABU stood for…..how great and immediate is the impact of ABU! on our youth.

Hey guys and gals……think about ABU at Christmas, season of goodwill, renewed strength and resolutions to make things extra special….all for the sake of a Child.
Don’t have to shop for ABU just dip into your pockets and among the many reminders to buy presents….pop ABU something too, whether more or less.
Give you a little help?…..whenever you buy something, and we are doing just that, just now ….put the extra change you get, whether more or less, aside and you will be surprised at the amount you see . Set this aside for ABU. My humble suggestion.
Also, talk to your friends and families about ABU….all are willing to hear you at Christmas, so much of goodwill about, don’t miss the chance. And they do listen, I tell you. I brought the message to just two persons yesterday, one was a die-hard non voter…she told me she would register right away. The other laughed out loud when I explained what ABU meant,she was in complete agreement.

Haris, this morning I came across a surprise, I met a real Abu!.at the main KL post office….A guy on a motorbike had the ABU sticker on the front of the bike and I could not help complimenting him on the use of the sticker. I was just beside his bike as he came to ride away. ……he said he knew you, he said, I am myself…. Abu Bakar!!!!

May I make a suggestion… Most foreigners are hired by the private sector and I am sure there will be sympathisers among the management who will support you by not allowing their foreign workers to go out of the factories/ plantations/ restaurants to vote.
