Many people wrote in response to my earlier article on the Fear Factor, informing me that, nowadays, ANY kind of mark, so long as it is within the allotted space, is accepted as a valid vote. I suspect that BN had been losing many votes because of objections over the mark made by voters. Whatever the case, this is something i was not aware of.

I could write this as a response to my earlier article but, I fear, it may get buried deep inside th message list and be missed. It is important that anyone who has been stuck in the old world of elections has to be made aware of the current situation. People must be alerted to the reality that putting some other mark to spoil a vote will not work. That strategy will backfire.

It is time to reach out to those afraid to deny BN a vote and educate them. I am sure there are many who still carry the secret fear that, somehow, the authorities will find out what they did, and it will impact their government jobs or pensions. Despite their desire to vote against BN, their fear prevents them from placing a mark against the opposition logo. So they place a protest vote against BN.

I know some such people. I will be working on persuading them that, this time, there is no serial number and there is no way to trace individual votes. Anyone else who knows of such persons should do their part… and pass the word around to others as well. Put your X against any of the Barisan Rakyat logos.

Meanwhile, we should also alert people that the change in acceptance of the voting mark should not be taken as a license. The EC could change their mind and restore the X as the only valid voting mark. Therefore it is important that people get used to placing the X against their preferred party/candidate.

Hopefully, for the next GE, we will have a unified Barisan Rakyat logo to place our X against.

Onward Barisan Rakyat.
