Got to IPK, Jalan Hang Tuah ( opposite Pudu Jail ) a little after 3pm.
There was already a small crowd of supporters outside, along with a very visible presence of police.
Was informed by some from the media that Wan Azizah and other family members had been allowed to see Anwar earlier and had since left. MPs who were there earlier had also left.
Police had refused the presence of two lawyers whilst Anwar’s statement was being taken. Sankaran Nair left, leaving Sivarasa with Anwar.
Spoke to some of the supporters outside. Some were saying that if Anwar was not released, there would be demonstrations.
This troubled me.
I approached Chegubard who was also waiting outside IPK.
This is what Chegubard said.
“People, please be cool”.

Thanx for update Mr. Haris. I feel so helpless stuck in Penang! I hope all PR supporters act wisely. Don’t let emotions cloud their judgement. It is a really, really sad day for Malaysia. This is what happens when there is too much “cover-up” at the top .. they are now paranoid!

Maintain peace. Be End (BN) can’t chain an entire nation. Even if Anwar were to become the PM today, he can die today as well. So this battle is not about him but about our exsistence and institutional survival. It is about Malaysia and it’s future. Fight we will.

People people people!
We have to stay calm and composed right now. We need to. We cannot take matters into our own hand at this infancy stage. Stay calm and peaceful and composed and smart when we have to. And right now we have to.
But, if matters turn ugly, if, the time and need arises for us to break free, BREAK FREE we shall! Retaliate we shall! SMASH, the enemy of peacefulness and calmness we SHALL! SMASH the enemy of justice and fairness we shall! And if the Government, BN, UMNO, MIC, MCA, and whatever parties that make up BN, the ministers, the IGP, the police, the AG, the ACA pushes our patience to an uncontrollable limit, we shall then SHOW OUR SPIRITS AS MALAYSIANS, irregardless of race, age and gender!
We have only ourselves and GOD to fear, in whatever form or shape or name our GOD is represented to us. But we cannot fear those who oppresses JUSTICE and PEACE!
I can lay down my life when the time arises, i assure you all reading this.
But until that time and need arises, we, as Malaysians, shall maintain calmness and composure.
Regards,
HULK

I hope there are no demos cos it would only play into BN’s hands lah.
It’s a different time to 10 years ago. People (well most thinking people)are already fed up of the sandiwara. So he got arrested. Is it worth giving them a reason to declare a state of emergency? He’s just one man within PKR, I just want to see my new MPs and ADUNs and new councillors doing something more positive.
I think his lawyers can handle the matter and PKR has to show they have political maturity. Don’t you think our country needs that kind of maturity now?
Perhaps I’m expecting too much but in this instance, demos are not the answer in my view.
I’m not any member or fan of political parties (let alone politicians lately LOL). I just want a country that we can get by (and then some) with some form of quality of life and a future for my kids. Is that too much to ask for?
I really hope they keep appealing for calm and for sensible heads.

Haris, a question.
Why was the presence of lawyers refused? Can they actually deny Anwar from having a lawyer with him?
su,
They allowed only one lawyer to be present. Sivarasa remained and Sankara Nair left

Much as I am troubled, it is very important to keep a cool head.. PDRM explanation for the arrest as reported by malaysiakini is puzzling… Don make sense. The road blocks over the weekend also do not make sense.. becuz the action fringes on stupidity.. I want to give the gomen some credit… are these attempts to provoke??
People, pls stay calm!!!

People,
Never lose faith. And let us never lose our heads.
I’ve maintained before that we are at the tail-end of our 50 years which ends on August 30th 2008.
What we are witnessing are the death throes of the old, the convulsions of those desperate to hold on to life.
We have a bright future. Trust God.

Sdr Haris,
What would constitute ‘passive civil disobedience’, in the context our nation?
Is it anyway contradictory to the nations laws?
It matters because we must show we’re better than those…(self-imposed deletion)!
DSAI, RPK and others need massive peaceful public support!
Menyalak-er,
read BobSam’s comment. That will give you an idea. In fact, there is so much we can do in the name of passive resistance.

Yes, do not fall into the emergency trap. They are hoping the people will overreact and then they can declare Emergency. Lets not allow this and fall into their trap.
Please be calm and cool which I know is difficult but we have to be at this moment of time.

July 16, 2008
Harris,
the best peaceful civil disobedience now is to call a 1 day general work strike for concerned Malaysians to express their disgust at the government. Everybody can participate in a totally safe way and police cannot set up roadblocks to stop it.
What do you say, Harris?
Kenny Gan,
Have you been reading my mind?
Brilliant!

Hi Harris’
Thnx for your speedy update.
My gut feelings are that,Anwar is not going to be released any time soon.Otherwise this desperate govt of Pak lah wouldn’t have arrested him in such haste ,that to in the presence of balaclava clad commandos. To me its just like the old 1998 skrip. They are going all out for him. It’s prudent to exercise restraint at this stage by the rakyat but sooner he would need the rakyat’s support.
This whole episode is only going to consolidate his position further in the eyes of the people. He stands to gain more malay votes and support as Nor Aza Othman puts it elsewhere.
But the big question here is about his safety? The other question is,who gave the order for his arrest? The IGP or the govt? This will definitely have some implications on his personal safety and the timing of his release.
Hope this time around we can see justice is upheld in our bolehland.Anwar is also partly to be blamed for his present predicament. If he had not been so vocal about the issue of crossovers of MPs and claiming about the forming the new PAKATAN govt,by sept 16th,I think things would have been a bit more easier for him.Sometimes psychological games can backfire too and catch one in an off guard position if not executed well.
Silence is good at times, esp in rotten politics in third world countries.
I wish him well and hope his family gets all the support needed at this trying times.

Dear Haris
Still remember the Monday gridlock in KL which left so many people fuming? There was no rally by PR as alleged by Syed Hamid and defended by AAB.
By arresting DSAI,they hope to anger PKR’s supporters and lure them out to a rally and if this happens, then they will claim that their action is justified.Hope PKR will not fall into the devil’s trap.
Just my 2 cents.

Yup I agree with kenny’s idea too. We must provide a specific date and given enough time to spread the news around to ask everyone to cooperate and ensuring that it will happen to give a strong displeasure voice to the govt. Hopefully the employers will allow and participate setting aside their own interests.
No travelling around that day because going to shopping centre or using petrol will only go to the pockets of ministers and vips who have shares.

Goverment credibility down the drain.i agree with Ahmad, it not the battle for Anwar,it a battle for all malaysian . the struggle continues. we, malaysian will never see true justice, human right , treat with respect and dignity from the ruling elite.
the goverment wants us to afraid of them, which they should instead fear the rakyat. i am a libran, i hate justice being mugged.law can be twisted to favor the arrogant ruling tyrant malaysia.Rakyat now has become enemy of the state.
sad state of malaysia.hope the King intervene…before the goverment start murdering its own rakyat for the fear of losing power and of its own shadow. those who has visited the genocide museum in cambodia will be able to observe all form of cruelty inflicted to its countrymen by pol pot’s regime.

Fellas, if it does come down to this “ponteng” we must ensure that the 5 PR state govts. will implicitly agree.
It is extremely hard to differentiate who are the the pdrm etc. kaki-bodeks. There’re other civil servants who also find it difficult to survive with their measly salaries; and are certainly no lovers of Be-eNd.
C is right, we must first convince the employer’s first, because not all are PR followers.
A little ‘persuasion’ p’haps might be needed – of course ‘voluntarily’-la. Cheers.

Meyalak-er,
If enough support from people “ponteng” for one day no harm done.
Its just to show some support the reverse way from Public Demo and which cause more problem to people.
Well another choice,we can ponteng on Sunday or public holiday.
Ponteng also cost me money to pay my workers, i am non supporter of Anwar but just need to show BN the people power.
Rajraman.Kenny you really have the six sense to read the candleman mind or its a fluke shots hits the candleman mind.
Haris.are u going to try one “ponteng” day without burning one candle AND attending any demo. You do need some break man.
