I thought it was pointless sending out good wishes for the year 2009.
If we want 2009 to be the beginning of real change in our country, we must make it happen.
We can’t sit back, leave everything to others and to chance, and just wish for the best.
We know that come March, 2009, UMNO will have a new president.
Yes, Najib.
And we know that if Pak Lah steps down as PM then, as Najib and so many in UMNO hope he will, Najib will be making a bee-line to His Majesty seeking to be appointed as PM.
Frankly, notwithstanding all the things I’ve written about Pak Lah in this blog, I’d rather he remain PM then inflict Najib upon us as the new premier of Malaysia.
Sure, I’d rather see a Pakatan Rakyat federal government come end-March, 2009, with Anwar as PM
If that happens, great.
If it doesn’t, though, I do not want Najib running my country.
I have no confidence in Najib.
Why?
If you don’t know already, my reasons are as laid out in this PETITION that is addressed to the 221 other MPs in our Dewan Rakyat, excluding Najib.
Well, 221 after the Kuala Terengganu by-election results on 17th January.
This is my gift to all my fellow anak-anak Bangsa Malaysia for 2009.
My dear friend, Nanda, helped me to put it together.
It’s long, I know, but that’s for the benefit of those who may not be very clear on the issues, including some of the MPs to whom the petition is addressed.
If you, too, like me, have no confidence in Najib as PM, give the petition a read and see if you will give it your support.
If we fail to stop Najib, at least we can look at the next generation of Malaysians in the eye and say, ‘God knows we tried to end the rape of this country’.

Yes, brother Haris, I have no confidence in him.
He said that he wanted to bathe his knife with the people’s blood, can’t imagine, a dracula-like feudal dictator is going to be the boss of fed guomen?
And then, we have the poor Mongolian woman, Bala said in his SD that this goon even sodomised this poor woman.I believed Bala’s first SD.
Also, the notorious weapons’ deals during his tenure in the Defence ministry, it’s just too much and stupid for the sleepy Pak Lah to pick this flur as his successor.
Well, can’t be help, all those top brass are tainted and corrupted inside this filthy and racist party. Too bad.
Heard that he warned all the MSM top guns and chief editors recently that his evil party must not lose the by-election. So these flurs accompany a crocodile and now finally, the beast want to eat all of them. How nice.

Najib, Saiful, Che Det, Musa Aman,Ghani Patail and lesser leaders like Muhamad Taib, Taib Muhamad, Semi Velue and the rest of BN / UMNO as well as lesser individuals like Razak Baginda are all more innocent than the ordinary meek and average citizens of Malaysia. They have been thoroughly investigated by the then ACA, Police, Attorney General and Courts and come out clean as a whistle. The relevant question is what is the majority public perception of these institutions that found them clean in the first place. Are the institutions that have been setup under the Constitution clean and transparent in the first place?

Karpal against PKR seizing power though MP crossovers
By TEH ENG HOCK
PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Rakyat should only embark on capturing the Federal and state governments during the next general election, and not seize power via the crossovers of Barisan Nasional MPs.
DAP chairman Karpal Singh said the people’s choice during the election should be honoured, and the people would feel cheated if MPs or assemblymen hop over to another party.
“I must make it very clear that I have not at any one time been in support of Anwar’s (Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) stand on crossovers.
“In fact, as far back as March 23, 2008, I had gone to the extent of saying DAP would support the Barisan-led Federal Government to amend the Constitution to make party-hopping illegal by providing more than the eight MPs required by the Barisan to make up for the two-thirds majority needed to amend the Constitution,” he said in a statement.
Karpal Singh said he had also castigated Kapar MP S. Manikavasagam for wanting to leave PKR, saying that the latter was not elected in his personal capacity and had no right to join another party or remain as independent.
“He should resign so that his constituents can decide whom they wish to have as their representative in Parliament.
“DAP is against elected representatives betraying the sacred trust of their constituents through party-hopping,” he said.
Karpal Singh was responding to a letter written by a reader of The Star, who questioned his principles for supporting Anwar.
He said the reader had labeled him as an unprincipled politician, and should check his facts before criticising.
Karpal Singh said the reader owed him an apology as any criticism must be based on truth

Najib’s parents were fine people, God bless their souls. He must have had a good upbringing. However, he does at times give an impression that he is not sincere and is superficial about understanding and handling serious national issues. There is also a strong suspicion though not an absolute conviction that his views on national developement are rather parochial and are default of progressive long term values.
I am however, still, of the opinion that given his age and (privilged experience) he can/will mature to become a responsible national leader. Best wishes.

What is Karpal Singh going to do if, say, 40 BN MP’s cross over to support Anwar Ibrahim as Prime Minister tomorrow? Is he going to withdraw his support for Anwar and choose to remain in the Opposition, that is, together with the 100 members of BN who did not cross over? How many of the other 27 DAP MP’s will follow Karpal’s lead?
Assuming Pas wins KT by-election. Then, suppose 40 BN members cross over to support Anwar. With PKR’s 31 seats, and Pas’ 23 seats and 2 Independents (from Sabah), Anwar will have 95 seats altogether. Barisan will be left with 98 seats (including Ibrahim Ali, who will support Barisan, seeing that he will never support Anwar under any circumstances.) Will the DAP then throw its weight (28 seats) behind BN to allow BN to remain in Government? Or will the DAP allow its members to choose either to support Anwar or “to remain in the Opposition”. To form a new government Anwar would then need 17 DAP members to join him. Can Karpal prevent this 17 from “crossing over”? Let’s say he can, and Anwar managed to convince only 5 DAP members to cross to his side. We will then have three blocks in Parliament. 98 Barisan (led presumably by Najib), 100 “Anwarists” and 23 DAP. So, at this point, who is Karpal Singh going to support as Prime Minister? Can somebody help me find an answer.

Are the 221 MPs going to tell the Agong that they have confidence in Najib becoming Prime Minister despite the cloud of suspicion that hangs over him?
Not only Altantuya, but also the various allegations of impropriety surrounding his former ministry over purchases of submarines and helicopters.
Are teh 221 MPs going to be responsible for sending this clown to the international stage to talk on our behalf?
Mind you, the moment he ascends the stage to speak at the United Nationa, a walk out by the Mongolian ambassador or the UN representative is enough to shame not just him but also this nation of ours.
Indeed, it will be unbecoming of the 221 MPs to unfairly encumber the Agong with this responsibility of having to decide on Najib’s suitability to lead this nation.
Is the Agong, therefore, going to feel that his sanction is obtained under duress?
Are the rakyat going to be blamed for Najib’ ascension to premiership just because we gave the UMNO led BN the majority in parliament? Well, we gave the BN the majority because it was led by Badawi, not Najib!!
The decision to pass on the premiership to Najib is an UMNO decision. Coerced I should add. But the MPs can still stop it. MCA, MIC, Gerakan, the Sabah and Sarawak based parties in the BN and MPs of UMNO who still retain some semblance of conscience, can show that they don’t have confidence in Najib and shut him out of the premiership. Who cares if he remains the President of UMNO anyway?

I hope the success of this petition will lead us to be able to rightfully vote for the best man for the job as our country’s Prime Minister. Let the voice of the people of Malaysia be heard, and not just the voices of a tiny, tiny (almost negligible) percentage of population. We should take responsibility as the people of this land to vote the person who will bring Malaysia back to glory. Look, we are blessed with abundant resources, we are blessed geographically away from natural disasters, we are a smart bunch of people, so why the heck is Malaysia languishing??
We are told that we would be insulated from the financial tsunami by this current Finance Minister..but hey dude, can you tell us how? And even before this global financial issue, why is the Malaysian purchasing parity dropping? Why arent we solving these basic issues even before this global phenomenon hit us? Or are we not listening carefully? Maybe he is saying he wont be hurt by the financial tsunami…
We are only asking for a basic right to choose the person whom we can really call our leader.
For those who are worried about voting for your rights, when the numbers have swelled, Malaysia would get global attention if the thousands or millions of voters are put behind bars or C4-ed..

January 6, 2009
Patrick Lee,
The irony is that NTR will not be elected into the PMO because 191 UMNO divisions neglected to provide a semblance of democracy to germinate within that political (sic) organisation by NOT nominating a challenger for the UMNO presidency. Therefore, NTR ‘wins’ by default.
In other words, even the the 2500 odd UMNO representatives turning up during the March ’09 election are unable to exercise their ‘democratic’ rights to choose.
Against the backdrop of GE12 last year whereby we are all encouraged to vote as responsible Malaysians, UMNO takes a very lackadaisical attitude for their own affairs and to the detriment of us all.
Hope you get a better understanding on the importance of this petition, amongst other considerations that were included.

If any UMNO/BN Shit continues to become our PM or CM all the way, it will be the end of true democracy in Malaysia. The only hope is to give PKR a CHANCE to take over and lead the country for 10 years or so to proof what they have preached. We have seen so much of what is going on under UMNO/BN leadership for more than 50 years, and among other concerns the minority is being manipulated and suppressed since day one.

roy, are you kidding? Where have you been? Najib has been in politics for 32 years and his track record is there for anyone who knows how to google or type in the word “wikipedia”. You want to evaluate him base on his track record? Fine. Appended below are just a sample of his track record:
1) 1987 Kampung Baru rally – “soak the keris in Chinese blood”
2) Questions about the murder of Shaariibuugiin Altantuyaa
3) Balasubramaniam’s Statutory Declaration
4) Problems with national Service
5) Eurocopter deal
6) Scorpene submarines deal
7) Sukhoi fighters deal
Just these few examples are enough for him to “prove” himself. You still think it is too early to judge? How much more proof do you need, roy?

This is in spite of Ramon Navaratnam’s fawning assessment that Najib is “an equally good choice [to Anwar Ibrahim] to be prime minister”, that he is “capable, he is able, he has got talent, he has got grooming and the right background” (see the following Malaysiakini write-up, http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/92688).
Ramon Navaratnam has worked with Tun Razak and therefore relegates honesty and the greater public interest beneath gratitude and servitude. Here then we have in Ramon another one of those elites’ lapdogs, with their bowties, Dato’ships and cosy sundry chairpersonship, who’d give principles a pass out of weakness of character and justify as “diplomatic decorum” their spinelessness and restraint from upsetting the upper-class cruise boat when it is their own interests that they are guarding. So long as the likes of Ramon Navaratnam (and Lee Lam Thye to name another one of those many social “bigwigs”) are held in undeserved esteem, so long as their words and actions are not carefully subjected to the anvil and hammer of critical thought by the rakyat, thus long will the people and the nation be taken for a ride and fleeced by the elite and their contemptible political and civil-service comrades.
Consider the petition proposed above signed.

I am afraid of what this country is to become if Najib becomes the next Prime Minister. He carries too many baggages to be respected at home and abroad.
I suggest a referendum from the citizens of this country to determine if Najib deserves to be the next chief executive. The practice of UMNO appointing its president as the prime minister of the country is a mockery to real democracy. Let common sense prevail.

I, too am troubled with the thought of having Najib as PM and my sentiments are very much in line with most of the comments posted.
In all fairness to the people of Malaysia, what we’ll need is a snap election if Pak Lah steps down so that the people can have a voice in the matter.

Haris, you should make this post sticky and stay at the top to garner the votes, rather than let it be pushed down to the bottom and not get noticed….
TheWrathOfGrapes,
I have displaced this post for two days to make way for the Malam mesra rakyat post given that that initiative takes place tomorrow. After that, this post goes back to pole position.

Harris, I just saw this petition so I went n signed. No 1298.
I have another reason for not wanting him as the PM. The guy is apparently threatening the editors of the mainstream media now.
He was supposed have indicated that those who do not give enuff coverage to the BN candidate in KT or happen to cover the Opposition candidate, will pay a high price for it when he becomes PM.
The KDN annual renewal of publication permits were apparently the sword that was brandished about.

Anonymous says…..
Remove UMNO from Power will make some sense as both the present PM & the PM in waiting are tainted with corruption and murder respectively. Now the Education Minister is joining the insanity with another irrelevant issue with his arrogance.
Vote for the opposition in KT so that UMNO will now be removed from Power as this is the referendum of Narjis for the PM in waiting.
All KT voters & residents please do not forget the Billions in Wang Ehsan from Petronas had been squandered by the present PM and his SIL Khairy on the white elephants like the Crystal Mosque and Mariner Yacht Club.

Yes I do have confidence on Najib but not on someone like you Harris. And the best part of it so are the millions others. Forget about Anwar he is as good as finished. I bet my last dollar Harris, before the next election Pakatan Rakyat tag team will be demolished by their own stupidities plus their own selfish agendas.
You of all people should already know by now that it was a “marriage of convenience”….maka terlahir lah PR.It will not last. You are too obsessed with your own beliefs till you loses all your bearings. You are a joke of the town and the best part it you didn’t even realise it.

i do not have confidence in Najib. Having him as Prime Minister will be like having Rosmah as Prime Minister. this woman is really wicked and evil..and it does not help with Najib as a spineless husband, seperti lembu dicucuk hidung. Please people let the voice of rakyat be heard..enough is enough..cukuplah rakyat seperti dirompak oleh semua pemimpin BN/UMNO. I dare not say with PKR Anwar’s leadership we will be better off..but..So please those of you who pledge to lead Malaysia..study sifat-sifat kepimpinan Rasullah s.a.w Nabi Muhammad and emulate those good criteria..and InsyaAllah ada harapan untuk kita rakyat Malaysia. Amin

Haris, a legal matter that I hope you can answer. How is it that Thailand can have so many referendums at the drop of the government head? Why can’t we have one on Najib?
I was in Bangkok during the referendum for the post-coup Constitution and I don’t remember any disruptions to their day-to-day activities at all. It was like any other day. Like, no effort required. Easy-peasy.
Siew Eng,
No provision in our constitution for decisions to be taken on a referendum.
Nothing to stop us trying to do one on our own, but it would have no legal force cos, well, the law does not provide for such.

I have no time for the privileged boys turned politicians by grace and favour. Responsibility to them is self service and to the rakyat mere lip service except when it come to giving out contracts for votes. Not Najib for PM. The spectres around him bode badly for our Nation!

Haris,
You and the others work so hard to bring about change. Ever since I met you at the Anak Bangsa forum in PENANG in NOV 07 (the lady who didn’t get a chance to make a comment due to lack of time but I spoke to you after the diner)I was confident that we would bring about change. Thanks to your website I’ve followed and fully supported all your initiatives and petitions from the lead-up to the elections to the present one No.1460!
My life time mission has been to build a better world and I support all initiatives for global change too.
I’ve commented a few times at CPO Khalid’s petition and elsewhere that instead of doing things piecemeal we should go strajght for a petition of NO CONFIDENCE IN THE CORRUPT AND INEFFICIENT BN GOVERNMENT citing ALL THE ABUSES AND ASSAULTS BY THE POLICE that peaceful citizens have been subjected. Whether we address The Agung or The Parliament but the peopple are demonstrating that

Dalbinder Singh Gill,
Ideally, both AAB and NTR should be relieved, one way or the other, from the PM and DPM portfolios but that would be asking for the moon under the current circumstances.
Hang on… PAS did win in KT, right? Yup, I think we’re getting there.

It’s rather pathetic. After 2 weeks and we can’t even get 1500 signatures. I think it shows people are still fearful in giving their IC No.
I’m sure if you just do a poll, you will get 1500 who have no confidence in Najib in just one or two days.
We need to think of other ways to send the message across.
Forget about submitting any online petition if it failed to cross the 20,000 mark.
How I wish every few months we have a by-election.
Then again, no matter how many by-elections they lost, they will not listen.

Didn’t over 20,000 aaBM provide their identity card numbers and sign Haris’s last petition on abolishing the ISA?
Surely the crucial issue raised in this petition is just as important as the one in that petition, if not more important.
And if anything, has the Rakyat’s wish for the much needed political change away from all the nauseating corruption, hubris and incompetent, unaccountable governance not strengthened further now after the PAS/PR win in the KT by-election?
As this is a serious and not frivolous petition, it requires the signatories to be authenticated to prove that they are valid Malaysian citizens and to prevent multiple signings by the same individual.
I admit revealing your true identity by giving your identity card numbers may be scary for some, or perhaps even repugnant to some others from a civil liberties standpoint.
But, generally speaking, as it is only you and I who can in the end effect real change in the systems that govern us, so you and I must be the ones to do the right thing of initiating or supporting that change irrespective of our fears or reservations provided of course that you and I are absolutely sure that what we are doing is the right thing.
Until the changeover to a new Government under PR, or until the present serious controversy over the current DPM is cleared up for good, I for one would sleep much easier if AAB remained as Prime Minister of Malaysia.
And on another point of principle: The BN voters too cast their votes on 8 March 2008 based on their knowledge then of who their Prime Minister was going to be if BN won the general election, so UMNO/BN too owes a stewardship duty of care, at the very least, to their own voters.

Harris, what about adding a poll onto your blog with questionnaire where ppl can vote and sees what is the feedback.. without them having to fill in their i/c.
Only 1508 ppl signed since January 4th 2009 – after 15 days.
Really pathetic…

I call upon all political parties whether you are ruling or opposition, somehow you have been selected by the rakyat to lead them in good and bad times. In that Parliament, what we see is anger, fight, show of power, disrespect and mistreatment. Is that what the Rakyat wants? No!!!!
We need a peaceful, respectful Parliament where Rakyat profitable issues are studied jointly and passed.Just think of the Rakyat and forget your invested powers when you are in that seat. How nice it will be if all politicians practice good brotherhood in that Parliament rather than screaming to each other, oral fighting, misusing powers and forgetting that you are the Rakyat’s selection and representatives. Please do what the Rakyat wants you to do, be a good, cool and friendly person, the rakyat will give their heart to you.
Rakyat never close their heart to any parties, sometime the party leaders are so dictator-like and holds the fork for too long without any profits to the rakyat so the only way to correct such situation is by replacement of that leader with new and young blood.
To win the heart of the Rakyat we should do these following:-
1. Foreign workers must be minimized in factories
2. Foreign workers must NOT be allowed job in shopping centers, petrol stations and security firms.
3. Malaysian workers must be given top priority to all above jobs.
4. Retired citizen working age must be extended to 60yrs with an option to extend jobs in private sector until health permits.
5. Malay Population has multiplied many times in these years, Muslim land ownership in Malaysia has Not improved, to correct it new Kampongs must be opened.
6. Prices of housing is drastically increasing, must have a Jabatan which controls these prices and keep it to its minimum
