“It’s the action, not the fruit of the action, that’s important. You have to do the right thing. It may not be in your power, may not be in your time, that there’ll be any fruit. But that doesn’t mean you stop doing the right thing. You may never know what results come from your action. But if you do nothing, there will be no result.” – Mahatma Gandhi

I dont think it will work. we need to work to earn a living and so on…car loan need to pay…house loan neeed to pay..need to eat…sorry to say that.
The current senario is not government it self..is due with a Major party..U.M.N.O..is Party control government. That why Ahmad is not arrested.
if the supprime councel UMNO is YES,,we cannot say NO. or the other way .
Senario Party Politik Control over gorverment is currupted and will bring even more unstabilities with 3 major etnics.
Policy Pecah dan Prinntah dari British luas dipakai..dan sangat efective ,berguna untuk menjaga hak, kuasa segelintir orang. I should not write more…takut polis tangkap saya..:(
It will have other more effective way than mogok kerja.
MEREKA tidak akan demolish ISA…unless..we have other new government not govern by same group of peaple.
cheers

Yo Yiaw,
Won’t work? You think you are the only one who needs to pay bills? Wait a minute … do you realize that Hartal will only be for a limited time? Maybe 2 days at most.
And you don’t want to write more coz you “takut polis tangkap?” Sheez! I thought the folks in cyberspace these days had gone way past such lame excuses!
Ah heck, why do I bother??? ….

What if the a doctor is on hartal, but the patient out of desperation couldn’t do the same, go to a hospital only to find an empty one. Haha.
Frankly, i’m skeptical even it will work, unless if 99% of Malaysians supported it. If that is so, Anwar would have already become the PM.

Haris,
How is your boycott of the newspapers getting along? Is it effective?
Are there any BN-linked companies?

Yiaw, I think the hartal last just 1 day. The massive traffic jam last time due to police “intelligent” to setup roadblock caused a big problem. It last just one morning. This hartal will last one full day.
Monday is the painful one. Plan it well ahead (you can settle all your loan earlier) then be happy to sit home!

Yesterday, I took all my money out from the bank. That is my hartal. Anyone can do it anytime, anywhere, without having to worry about police harassment.

Forget the naysayers and sceptics in our midst. They will moan and whine about everything but would not lift a finger to help even for a worthy cause.
These are the free-loaders. Most of them are also fence-sitters. Let us not waste our time and energy to reform their mindset.
Let us be focussed and do our most to make the Hartal a success.

Dear Haris,
Here’s another addition/alternative to the Hartal – Fly the National Flag as the symbol of our Free RPK Campaign!
Here are just some of my thoughts, not fully thought out yet, but time being of the essence at this very critical point, I would rather pass it on to you and others who may wish to develop this further and launch a co-ordinated move, if found to be suitable. I will provide whatever support I can if you need it.
I propose flying the National Flag as an addition/alternative to the Hartal (whichever may be preferred – I personally prefer the latter for a number of reasons dealt with below):–
i) “addition” – have the Hartal at the designated times – additionally, when travelling/on the road, fly the flag.
ii) “alternative” – instead of having the Hartal, which is passive, we substitute it with an “active Hartal” of Flying the Flag – in fact, flying the flag is not only active, but can be interactive, as we can enjoy the company of other like-minded Malaysians whom we are likely to pass on the road with whom we can exchange waves/hoots etc. and have a great time throughout. It can even be a family outing – bring the whole family!
Therefore, all that we would need to do is in addition to our driving around as usual but with flags on our vehicles, all of us simply “go for a drive” at the time you call for the Hartal – I would suggest something like 1 hour at a time, perhaps a Sunday morning when the roads would otherwise be clear – not with “our guns blazing” but “our flags flying” – a show of solidarity and support for RPK by all peace loving Malaysians.
Why the National Flag?
1. Meaningful – RPK is a National Hero, a true patriot. All that our National Flag symbolises have found expression in the person of RPK and his writings. While I appreciate that some were/are flying the flag upside down, for this campaign I would ask that since it is about and for RPK, the flag be flown upright.
2. Safe:-
a. The Act of flying the National Flag cannot be wrong. Even the more timid amongst us who are afraid of petitions/demonstrations/walks/marches may find it easier to fly the flag.
b. There can be no Unlawful Assembly – there is no need to assemble – different people can go in different directions to different places even at different times and the effect is still achieved.
3. Easily attainable – Most of us would already have one or more which we use during National Day. If I got it right, it was announced at the 15th Sept gathering at Kelana Jaya that 1 million little flags have been given out around the whole country – therefore these are also there to be put to good use.
4. Impact – The effect can be pronounced as flag-flying cars/vehicles can be easily noticed and create the impact that we’re hoping to create and show the govt, the nation and the world that Malaysians are fully behind RPK!
5. All can participate. A Hartal may be more difficult for those who need to work/have prior commitments and are not prepared to compromise/give it up. In flying the flag, even as they go about doing whatever they need/want to do, while on the road, they would be participating.
6. No financial loss – a Hartal could involve losses to workers/businesses – this doesn’t.
What can we do?
1. Put up the little flags on our cars, as we do during National Day.
2. Co-ordinated “launches” – in addition to flying the flag as we go about our daily routine, we can have co-ordinated “launches” at designated times – we simply go for a drive with family and friends flying the flag and make our presence felt by flooding the roads with flag-flying cars.
3. Some may also choose to put up flags at the office/home.
4. Spread the word.
5. Find out where flags (and the little holder) are being sold so that those wanting to get one can join in the campaign easily
Pause for a moment and picture this – a sleepy Sun morning … very few cars on the road. 10 – 11 a.m. – Hartal declared – all major cities and towns across the country flooded with cars, bikes etc flying the flag – international media coverage – impact! Govt finally hears the Rakyat!
If this does take off, and Malaysians do “speak up” and make the impact, Malaysia could become the first country where it would be illegal to fly the flag on any day other than National Day!
My prayers for RPK and this beloved Nation of Ours! Viva Bangsa Malaysia.

I have Tamil fonts on my PC but won’t be readble by others (not unicoded??). Anyway I have sent messages to the Malaysian Tamil (font) bloggers to visit this site and make their contribution in transleting the Hartal ISA message. Hope some will respond.
For the Hartal I suggest :
-Spread the message in every Restaurant/coffee shop you know( i was told that this was done by HINDRAF before 25 Nov- which we witness the result)
– I am sure the people based groups/grassroot groups are already working with you guys.
– Doctors and medical services should be excused.
– Don’t forget Teachers Union and Cuepecs.
