On 5th November, last year, Malaysiakini carried the following report :
“Nahalan, a prominent leader in the east coast, took some time to explain his position at length on why he supports any proposed new party to be headed by Jeffrey.
“I received a call from Anwar Ibrahim last week asking me why I supported Jeffrey to be PKR state chief and not Thamrin,” disclosed Nahalan who is a Bajau-Suluk.
“I told him that Jeffrey was elected by the majority of division chiefs including my division. Besides, he’s the best leader we have in the opposition. It’s not true that he’s crazy about posts or likes to switch from party to party for no reason.”
Implied, but not stated specifically by Anwar during the hour-long telephone conversation, was that Nahalan should seriously think about supporting Thamrin on the basis of their common faith.
Apparently, Anwar was busy working the phones last week trying to persuade other Muslim division chiefs as well, including KadazanDusunMurut, to withdraw their support for Jeffrey to be the new state chief.
Muslim KadazanDusunMuruts come from the Orang Sungei along the Kinabatangan, Bisaya in the west coast and Ranau Dusun tribes in the high country.
Anwar’s willingness to ride roughshod over local sentiments in Sabah was the last straw for Nahalan. He said he realised that “Anwar has not changed since his Umno and Abim (Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia) days and is very much a closet racist” .
10 days later, at a ‘meet the bloggers’ session hosted by Anwar at the Lake Club, I broached Anwar on this.
He assured me that there was no truth in this and that Nahalan had in fact sms’d Anwar to say that the Malaysiakini report was completely untrue.
Anwar, of course, was not to know that I had already been told by someone who was at the meeting on 6th November, 2009, in Kota Kinabalu, where Tian Chua met several of the PKR state leaders, including Nahalan, that the latter had reiterated the very same allegation to Tian Chua.
I thought then that I would let this pass.
What’s a little face-saving white lie from a politician?
To be expected, no?
I was in Kota Kinabalu end of last month for the ‘1963 Re-visited : The Way Forward’ forum organised by the Borneo Heritage Foundation together with the Common Interest Group Malaysia.
This was an important forum and I will blog about it soon.
I’ll just tell you now that what I learnt at the forum was that just as BN screwed us Semenanjungites big time, they did the same to Sabahans and Sarawakians.
Big, big time.
After the forum, I sat down to coffee with two PKR leaders from Sarawak.
The discussion, while wide-ranging, finally turned to Anwar and PKR.
“PKR, under Anwar, is UMNO by another name”, one of them said.
“Go and ask Anwar if he will deny that his plan is to keep the Dayaks divided so that the Muslims will continue to rule in Sarawak. How different, then, is PKR from UMNO? If he dares deny this, come back to me and I will give you proof”, the other offered.
I referred to what Nahalan had said last November and asked them what they thought.
“Anwar is more dangerous than that Perkasa fellow. That Perkasa fellow is openly a bloody racist. Anwar hides behind ketuanan rakyat. He is still on a Muslim agenda. Anwar is more dangerous”, one responded.
The other nodded in agreement.
Yesterday, I made a phone call to Sabah to get the inside story on the show cause notice to the 12 Sabah PKR leaders who had, late last year, during the height of the PKR Sabah leadership crisis, when Anwar had rejected Jeffrey to lead although the latter ostensibly commanded the confidence of the majority of Sabah PKR , filed an application with the registrar of societies to register a new party, Parti Cinta Sabah.
I am told that then, peace was finally brokered between PKR in KL and Sabah in that the ‘Jeffery’ faction would live with Anwar’s handpicked Thamrin until the party elections. The application to register the new party was to be withdrawn and PKR HQ and Sabah were to put this whole episode behind them and focus on making ready for the next elections.
Anwar has now reneged on this arrangement.
Anwar, Iam told, is now suggesting that at the time that peace was brokered, he and other party leaders were not aware that an application to register a new party had in fact been submitted, and were under the impression that such an application was merely being contemplated.
This, however, would plainly be an untruth if, as I am told, the condition set by the party HQ when the peace deal was being brokered was that the APPLICATION WAS TO BE WITHDRAWN.
This is no longer a mere face-saving white lie.
Why?
My Sabah source tells me it’s about killing two birds with one stone.
Jefffey Kitingan and Zaid Ibrahim.
All 12 divisional leaders are known Jeffery supporters.
Lynch the 12 at the disciplinary proceedings later today and Jeffery’s political jugular vein in the party might be severed, leaving the way open for Ansari, a known Anwar man, and his supporters.
Muslim factor again.
As for Zaid, my sources in PKR tell me that from the word go, Anwar has not been altogether comfortable with Zaid’s seemingly meteoric rise in the party.
Zaid’s become increasingly popular with the PKR grassroots in Sabah, many of whom have becoming increasingly disenchanted with Anwar’s UMNO-like centralised control of party politics at state level.
And notwithstanding Zaid having said he’s not looking to contest for any party post, Anwar and Azmin are not leaving it to chance.
After all, did not Anwar say in 1993 that he would not challenge Ghafar Baba for the UMNO deputy presidency, and then went on to finish off Ghafar?
Everyone in the know in PKR is expecting that the Sodomy II trial will have only one conclusion, and very, very soon : conviction and imprisonment.
Assuming Wan Azizah hangs on to the presidency and Syed Husin holds to his word and does not offer himself, Anwar is looking to Azmin to seize the No.2 post and hold it to check Zaid’s ascension through the party.
Now I ask you, is not PKR beginning to more and more resemble UMNO?
In my ‘The end days of PKR in Sabah?’ post, I had posed three questions to Anwar. I reproduce the same here now.
First, how the *#@* did you ever dream of taking the federal government last September 16th, apparently counting on the support of Sabah and Sarawak when, it would seem, you haven’t a clue of how to win the hearts and minds of their locals, leaders or otherwise?
Second, is your ‘Ketuanan Rakyat’ any less sloganeering than Najib’s ’1Malaysia’? Is it from the heart or just skin deep?
Third, are you truly the changed man from your UMNO days, or are you now a closet Malay nationalist, because you see it as politically expedient?

Who knows how true these rumours are, but I full well remember anwar’s disgraceful role in the 1994 sabah state election, the most racist and biased we’ve ever had. I have only grudgingly supported him since as I want BN out, but I’ll never quite support him fully as he has never acknowledged or apologised for his rolein Sabah then. As you suggest he does not understand Sabah; I’d go further and say he could not be bothered to understand us. By the same token, don’t be too quick to be taken in by Jeffrey-he certainly cannot be trusted either!

I am no politician and I am not even keen to know your agenda but all I know there is a vast different between IA (Perkosa) and DSAI (PKR). One is on MALAY agenda (race basist, racist) and one is on ISLAM (religion, belief basis). One is just like the Israel who consider themselves as a superior race than the others. One is preaching on Syahadah, whole wide world, throughout the universe. Therefore IA is a racist and not DSAI.

Salam Haris,
You have written exactly what I had in mind.
It would be difficult to kick UMNO out of Anwar…UMNO is in his genes.
When he was the Education Minister, he suggested that all vernacular schools be closed down. He is a racist then and now, a closet racist.
He forgot that so many non-Malay supported him and urged him on. I feel sorry for his non-Malay party members and supporters.
PR and PKR represent multi-ethnic interests and should remain that way to win hearts and minds of Rakyat.
I like Zaid ….will vote for him anytime. He has shown his anti-UMNO stance by resigning as the Law Minister.
What has Anwar done? Lie on the railway track to carry out a protest when he was a student activist.
Celaka Anwar. Kalo di kurung di Kamunting, baik juga lah.
Haris,
You are a true

Brother Haris….. I have always said throughout that he is not to be trusted. I am no politician but there is something about him which one has to be cautious about. I strongly feel is not going to be any good for any of us who want change.
Anwar is in cahoot with PAS. Believe me…. once they are in power, DAP cannot do anything against them…
I dread the day…. 😦

Anwar is definitely on a muslim agenda. This is clear. The question is whether religion is going to be left out of politics or is he just being a 3 faced devil. If we look at the trend, Anwar is not really a secularist no matter what has been said. He is afterall a politician… and he is no Mandella.

Agreed with whatever you say bro. Anwar must change his stripes he earned in his 17 years in Umno. That is why Mahathir still has Anwar under his belt. 17 years up close is a long time to know someone. I only knew Anwar in a single 1981 when i worked with him.
Or at least return to Madinah’s way which Prophet Muhammad allowed the non-Muslims to have their way of life. Leave Sabah to the Sabahans. Leave Sarawak likewise.

The year i worked with Anwar in 1981 is before he joined Umno which is in ABIM. I did not followed Anwar into Umno because the tide that time was with PAS which i joined later.
I distinctively remembered the weeks before Anwar declared joining Umno we were at a dinner for ABIM held at MPPJ Civic Hall in PJ in 1981. He gave a public speech which discounted the rumours that he is joining Umno. I remembered distinctively his words, “Yang desas desus saya akan memasuki Umno itu khabar angin sahaja. Tak betul…”. When he joined Umno right round the corner, you can say my trust in him dropped from 30% to 10%. Today it is back to 30%. But your post makes it drop to 20% (still giving him some room for doubt as i regard this as hearsay).
Dr. Mahathir (which i trust 50%) has said, “Get close to Anwar and then you will know who he really is.” That statement raised my trust in Mahathir to 70%. I know an insider statement when i see one.

Redhuan, ur trust level increased to 70%. Wow! I m speechless, especially after reading his latest statement yesterday about non-muslim names mentioned in one’s prayers.
Yesterday’s leaders should be filed in the “vertical file”.
We need new leaders, although YM KuLi could be the appropriate middle of the ground person to lead a new united 1Malaysia. Many different people, different religious beliefs, different mindsets, etc. coming together under 1 country. No need for cookie cutter.
Hitler was an Austrian. He had to “out-German” the Germans, and fool them into thinking he was PURE German. If people know that playing the RACIAL card can get them and keep them in power, they will use race, religion, and everything else to do so.
This I am 100% sure. I am a Malaysian, 6 generations in this country. I know of no other homeland.

So Harris, have you found The Truth or found A Truth?. The Truth have always been there, but to find A Truth and disclose it is a difficult task. A Truth is a dangerous thing and in Malaysia it is a feared option by many for their hope in despair in their new found demi gods in form of politicans as The Truth is more accepted and dealt without an eyelid. An umno member I met recently assured me that Anwar was as corrupt as every other umno leaders when he was in power. Money politics was practised by him openly just as others but the difference was that he spoke out against such practice and place himself on a moral high ground.
I suggested to him that he had paid for his sins by his imprisonment and perhaps he is now a better person. A weak defence, I admit but at the back of my mind I sense that little has changed and continued by suggesting that Anwar must go in order for pkr and pr to really move forward. Anwar has far too many baggages.
This is why the third force must quickly gain credibility.

Anwar is after all, …Anwar. Nothing can change those spots. They are his “birth marks”. A good bullshitter does not make a good leader. And to make things worse, he has a slimeball behind him. Put this slimeball in Sabah, he created a ruckus there, shipped him back to Selangor, he almost caused the Pakatan state’s downfall. So, if you truly love Malaysia, lets support Jeffrey and his brethren to start a new Party, and perhaps, let his new party be spread West-bound and Zaid and all the good people may just join them. Then we in Barisan Rakyat, and hopefully DAP, and the good side of PAS can realistically move in to Putrajaya come GE13.

Like you, I have never trusted Anwar but like you, I was prepared to give him a chance. When he was in UMNO, he was worst than Ibrahim Ali except he had power in his hands. When he was convicted, I was quietly pleased that he got what he deserved, not that I was following Malaysian politics at that time. The reason I was prepared to give him a chance was that I had hoped his incarceration had changed him. His rhetorics appear to reflect that.
The rooster seems to have come home to roost now. Your article title says it all. I have been quietly told that the prosecution have video evidence of Anwar in the act with Saiful and was withholding it until the last minute to put the last nail in the coffin. All the manoeuvres to resist providing the information requested by Anwar’s defence team are so that they can spring this last surprise evidence. I don’t believe Anwar will ever become Prime Minister of Malaysia as he has just as much baggage as Najib.
Bring on the third (or it the fourth) force and let’s elect some real trustworthy politicians who has the Rakyats as top priority. Power to all true blue Anak Anak Bangsa Malaysia

abg harris..my sources said and i was told that:–
“Our friend haris ibrahim is very keen on forming his own party and be it’s leader at no time(the so called third force). Haris, Stop your bloody rumour mongering! ”
“This piece is a crap. Anwar is no longer like what he was in UMNO. He had to be like that while in UMNO because Mahathir was keeping tab on him. Now we only have him as our hope, so don’t try to destroy his credentials.”
“Yes, Anwar is our only hope, so let’s not kill it. Anwar is definitely not perfect, but until UMNO is out of the way we must stick with Anwar. If Malaysians start attacking Anwar then UMNO will stay in government and destroy Malaysia.
UMNO people are just try to do exactly what this article is trying to do and that is put fear into Malaysians that Anwar is as bad or worse than UMNO so stick with UMNO. Believe me nothing is worse then UMNO or even equally as bad as UMNO. Vote PKR and kick UMNO out, later if PKR does not keep its promises we will kick it out and put in another party. Malaysians must not get complacent or be scared into keeping UMNO is government. “

However who can we really trust?
Some now seem to distrust Anwar so much that they are even prepared to trust Mahathir and Ibrahim Ali more than him!!

So did Obama but the reality of politics has left him floundering
My heart bleeds for my brethren of Sabah & Sarawak

Haris,
I do not know if you recollect a conversation I had with you a few months ago stating that Anwar is a very dangerous man. Somehow nature has managed to prevent him from becoming the PM. ” A closet racist “, ” more dangerous than Ibrahim Ali”, I cannot agree more. It is in everyone’s greatest fear that once Anwar comes into power, he will raise the Islamic card and obliterate and silence the non Muslims in this country. In our feverish intent of hell-bent to get rid of BN, we ‘allow’ ourselves to believe in what Anwar is preaching. But like what you pointed out very accurately, Anwar has a very dark side that would make even Najib look like a ‘schoolboy’. I have to warn you Haris, your article was spot on, however Anwar will now use his influence to potray you to the public that you are the enemy and not to be trusted anymore. Just wait and see. God Bless.

I spoke with Jeffrey and other East Malaysian leaders and they told me roughly the same thing that you wrote above. Uthaya also says Anwar is a Malay chauvinist politician and has no regard for Indian, Chinese and East Malaysian issues.
You cannot take the Umno out of Anwar. Period! The best thing that can happen to Pakatan is that Anwar is jailed again. At least it will win sympathy votes.
DAP has changed since coming to power, and now it stands for capitalism (Chinese capitalism) as well as embedded with a christian agenda. Watch LGE closely.
Giving Pakatan a clearly victory, a carte blanche, is jumping from the frying pan into the fire. At least I can talk to the bastards in Umno.
CigMa-Hindraf is the only Third force now, and they are the only ones who can keep Pakatan in check. When loss at the GE is seen to be inevitable, I’m sure Umno will give way to CigMa-Hindraf when the time comes. BN is politically realistic enough to know what to do.

For Semenanjung you really do not have a choice if you really want BN and UMNO defeated in the General Election and get the “changes” you have been clamouring for. This means that you will have to vote for Pakatan Rakyat (no two-way about it) regardless of who Anwar really is to you. But for Sabah and Sarawak it does not matter which control the central government, the treatment is all the same – they are just colonial, subservient states of KL!

Yes Anwar has a racist past and may still be a CLOSET RACIST.
We remember the many bad things he did and that failed promise of a Sept 16th take over of the Federal Gov’t was a total sham. He knew it but he was determined to pull wool over the naive rakyat. As you said how could he when he didn’t even have a handle of the situation in Sarawak and Sabah?

Anwar is a symptom of Malaysian’s desperate need for an icon to cling to. All he is is another smooth talking empty vessel spawned by the same society that spawned UMNO. He has nothing to offer the future of Malaysia except more of the same, as can be seen by (some of ) the followers who are attracted to him
Malaysian politics is suffering from Post Mahathir Syndrome where politics is another word for greed and where idealism is suppressed by the University’s Act and by religion
Get rid of both in matters of state and perhaps you can see a future … but in 30 yrs time.

the issue here if i may share is the problem with pakatan rakyat itself. It’s not so much whether the umno gene is within him and still exists.
the root of the problem lies in the three component parties in pakatan rakyat. Anwar is to me, having difficulties to control the different ideologies and objectives among these 3 parties and therefore, he can’t really make a stand on certain issues.
As to what happen in Sabah, people there want their own people and for anwar to assert his authority without consulting the people is pretty insulting to them, let alone meddling with their affairs. it’s quite surprising as well, for the issue with PCS was considered long gone, why did anwar choose this specific time to call these 12 leaders to the discipline hearing. It’s just that i feel, anwar knows that he needs to get a control of the pr in sabah because it’s either not working or he can smell rat in it. who knows..

Dear Haris,
I’m not sure about the rest of PKR Sabah…but no, i would like to disagree with Nahalan. Jeffrey is definitely not the best guy to lead the opposition in Sabah. I know people will shoot me back and say ‘who else then?’….and…unfortunately I myself cannot answer that.
With all due respect, sir..Sabahans will not accept Jeffrey Kitingan as a leader because of his tainted past. Even if PKR Sabah accepts..it will be a very very difficult thing to get Sabahan rakyat to accept. It will be a choice between the devil and the deep blue sea. I guess I am in no position to say what PKR should or should not do but I do strongly suggest that PKR Sabah should look far and deep, and bring up new blood..doesnt matter Muslim or not..as long as he is Sabahan..and if there is truly no suitable leader why not just back down and join hands with SAPP and DAP..both which are more established parties in the state?
I think FMT’s piece titled ‘Sabah and the Genesis of Political Frogs’ is a very very good piece which pretty much sums up the sentiments of Sabahans on the ground. It also points out why a lot of Sabahans dont even bother going to the polls because both sides ‘dua kali lima’…it would be very good reading for someone on the outside to better understand the background of Sabah politics and the rakyat’s heart and mind.
Hope you dont mind me giving some input… 🙂
p.s. Thanks Haris and the Barisan Rakyat team! for everything u guys have done….i am just ‘one vote’…and my friends and i are not brave enough to be as vocal as you guys are…but rest assured, we are doing our bit in influencing the ‘undercurrents’ of the Sabahan rakyat no matter how small our effort may seem compared to u and the team. keep safe and God speed.

it’s simple. just ask Anwar to APOLOGISE OPENLY for what he has done, said and believed in, during his days in UMNO. otherwise, why should we give him the benefit of the doubt?
if he is truly a ‘changed man’ (as his supporters like to say, citing his experience in prison and having been ‘oppressed’), then why not say so OPENLY, beginning with an APOLOGY for having been a leader of UMNO and championed Ketuanan Melayu?? (that also applies to Zaid Ibrahim, mind you). Let’s not forget the well-entrenched impression that Anwar is a Chameleon, talking Ketuanan Melayu to UMNO crowd, Islamic Supremacy to PAS crowd, and Ketuanan Rakyat to non-Muslim crowd. he has NEVER done anything to dispel that image.
it’s very difficult for Sabahans for forget WHO was the one who engineered the mass-frog-exodus to topple PBS in 1994, and ushered in the current UMNO regime. so, if Anwar Ibrahim wants sabahans to forgive him for this crime against democracy, then – well – he should ASK FOR our forgiveness (by saying sorry) in the first place.
but he has NOT done any of that. so, why should we trust him??
p/s: sabahans might still vote for the opposition come next election, but that is only bcos we simply want a change of goverment and teach BN a lesson, but does not mean that after that, we want to stick with Anwar Ibrahim the 2-faced hypocrite.

YB Anwar Ibrahim,
Please say your piece what harris reports” who will now kick UMNO out of Anwar ” or “The Ketuanan Rakyat my kick Anwar into South China Sea”
In this instance, you have to come clean on this.
BTW just to let you know in my family, there are 8 members, 6 of them still say ” Anwar cannot be trusted, he is still an UMNO “. I am sure there are many families out there, where some members of the same family who still do not trust you.
I have always say , give him a chance and he had paid his dues being prison for 6 years. He is a changed man.
Now after reading Harris piece, my familly is saying to me ” I tell you so ”
Please YB, this is important, you have to speak out or demonstrate your total “clense of UMNOputraism”
All those who wants to see PR take over must know where you stand.
You know something, since the last 2 GE, I prefer to dive my 84 years mother-in-law 100 Km to vote in a PAS contested area ( UMNO stronghold) instead of re-register in PJ Utara. I know, her 1 vote is not going to affect PR, but her 1 vote is much more valuable to PAS to topple UMNO candidate.
So you see, YB Anwar many Malaysians, Malays, Chinese, Indians want to see a change. We had had enough enough of “UMNOputraism “,we want to see PR rule. Do not allow Harris to be right with The Third Force. Honestly, you have to search your heart deep to come clean.

Bro Harris,
Everyone is no angles more so the politicians. DO we really convince that we can find the present politicians in BN or PR that have character that is whiter than white? We have our own flaws and see others to be less perfect is akin to be hypocrite or just plain naive.

Nice one bro. Actually this is the sentiment that had been lingering in my mind all these time. Except only to Anwar, I have a bad feeling of PKR as a whole. Previous experiences with PKR people jumping around just making it worse. UMNO are UMNO. They are born with it and no matter how do you want to cover them with (whatever you want to call the party is), they will all be acting the same. The only reason that i vote for them last time was because of they are the only alternative to UMNO.

Be true to yourself.Haris, like RPK both of you are simple muslim while AI is a non-muslim[in his conduct]protrayed as a glorified muslim leader.
Our logical mind think our Future cabinet must be from political parties flelding incompetant politicians, many a disgrace to their own profession,as expedient is the order of the day.God’s willing Tuhan Sakti and we can have RPK as PM and You as his Deputy.Day dreaming I am not as I KNOW what Inshaallah meant in the kithab.
Haris,be a beacon for truth instead of becoming a magnet for popularity. If that happens you have betray Islam and have become a POLITICIAN.

My personal opinion of Anwar Ibrahim.
It is without a doubt that anwar posseses some great characteristics, none greater than his spectacular oratory skills, enabling him to sway and eventually hold a good majority of the general public’s opinion.I have my peronal reservations about him,not because I find him incapable to be PM but because I find that his character is suspect. I shall list my reasons below for debate :
1) Baling Incident;
Anwar did cause an uproar regarding the few deaths due to starvation there in late 70’s. However one must ask oneself, what was his primary intention in doing so ? What would you have done if you were in his shoes ? Most people would have tried to organize chanelling of food there, writing to govt bodies for necessary help, seek donations, engaging with NGO’s etc. In short usually within the confines of the law.You must also understand that this occurred in the 70’s, long before the corrupt infested govt that is so evidently present today. Death due to starvation in M’sia (for that matter anywhere in the world) should never happen but I am quite sure it occured due to the inefficiencies of the govt of the day and had nothing to do with corruption or ill concious intent. For whatever Anwar’s genuine intention of leading a demonstration then, the fact is it definitely catapulpted his political career. Coming from a family where his father was one of the youngest UMNO MP’s, I am quite sure he knew very well what he was doing and where that incident will take him.

Hitler also had “spectacular oratory skills, enabling him to sway and eventually hold a good majority of the general public’s opinion”
I’m not saying that Anwar is another Hitler, but I am saying that their are forces at work within Malaysia that are too too similar to those in Germany prior to WW II

2) The decision to choose UMNO or PAS ?
He chose to join UMNO from Abim because…Let me guess ” I am going to change UMNO from within “. Yeah right ! How so original and what a sacrifice !
3) His legacy in UMNO;
What legacy are we talking about here ? My limited knowledge tells me about his moronic decision to introduce bahasa Baku when he was the education minister. We found it strange trying to decipher the new lingo on RTM news. As the finance minister, he fought tooth and nail against pegging the ringgit currency whom on the hindsight we are all now aware that it was a masterstroke by Dr M,( that was about the only good thing that he did)that saved not just M’sia but this whole region.Whose brilliant idea was it to give hard earned tax payers money amounting to rm 1 billion to Indonesia as aid and that too when M’sia was going through one of our worst financial crisis. Was someone trying to look good on the international stage ?

I am a Sarawakan, I support PAKATAN RAKYAAT as a whole but not single Opposition party becos I hate BN especially UMNO, doesnt mean that I support DSAI as individual. Yes the leader from Peninsular Malaysia should let us take care of our on state, dont try to colonized us, enough is enough. If PR won the General Election let Sabahan and Sarawakan choose their leaders.
For coming Sarawak State election let see if PR is serious to take Sarawak from BN by providing enough funds for logistics, transports and election expenses as a whole. For one candidate at least cost around RM: 500,000.00 for BN surely just a small matter they can spend up to billion.

4) Anwar is Mr Clean;
Could anyone believe that Anwar could manouvre himself within UMNO’s corridors of ‘lepers’ and rise to become the Deputy President as well as DPM just by relying on Dr M’s patronage alone, without greasing a few hands and closing one eye here and there along the way ? Just because Anwar was not caught does not give justice to the debate here.If it need be reminded, even with PR controlling 4 states the past 2 years, it finds it difficult to unearth dirt on most UMNO leaders. ‘Angels’ like Khir Toyo and Samy Velu still remain clean in the eyes of the ‘law’.

I have never trusted anwar ibrahim but after the reformasi period, I was more than willing to give him the benefit of doubt…Yes, a man can change if he wants to…even an oldman (espcially nearing expiry date, thats why many become more religious and turn to God for that salvation & last minute forgiveness).
BUT for now, anwar seems to be the only ‘gel’ to hold the coalition of the unwillings together. I am not surprised too if he sees Zaid as a threat. (*tabik spring* to the ONLY Minister in malaysian history, who had resigned from the cabinet on a principle and personal belief).
BTW the same sentiment is from my immediate & extended family with some 50votes to count on.
The I too await but do not have much hope that this gauntlet thrown to anwar, to be forthright once and for all, will be met…lets see.

5)He couldn’t do much in UMNO because of Dr M ;
If so, then Anwar was aware of all the injustices going around him while he was in UMNO but decided to do absolutely nothing about it. Just great isn’t it ! Here is a guy who went out of his way to highlight the Baling incident but suddenly chooses to remain silent within the system, in his Armani suits.Wasn’t this the same guy who declared that he was joining UMNO to change it from within ???

6)Dulu lain sekarang lain;
Fine, acceptable. So I guess Anwar is sorry and regrets deeply of his UMNO days ? NO ! Till date there has not been a single public apology from Anwar. So what is going on then ? What reforms are we then expecting for the future when Anwar himself will not regret and admit his shortcomings of the past.

7) Drama Queen ;
During the BERSIH rally in 2007, in case you are unaware, Anwar personally was not involved in the formation of the petition that was to be given to DYMM Agong. However at the precise moment of handinover of the petition, guess who arrives to the palace gates driven in on a super bike and that too about 30 mins late so that everyone had to wait for Anwar’s grand arrival. What was supposed to be a rakyat’s initiative attended by thousands of ordinary Joe’s (including me)from all walks of life was hijacked right under their noses by saudara Anwar.
During the sensational HINDRAF rally (pre and post)was Anwar anywhere to be seen ? Habuk pun tada !Amazingly guess who appeared in Klang addressing a rally of Indians, after Uthayakumar and his collegues were arrested under ISA to take the limelight. Wow what a makkal sakthi guy !
The Sept 16 fiasco which put the entire country into a political limbo had scared away most would be investors into this country. And of course the drama at the Turkish embassy. One thing you can’t accuse Anwar to be is, non drama-tic.

8)Anwar’s sacrifices being in jail from 1998 to 2004;
That I am afraid has nothing to do with the rakyat . It was a high stakes power game that Anwar and Mahathir fought. Anwar fell out of favour with the dictatorial mahathir and suffered his wrath. It was not his sacrifice to the rakyat at all however wrong it was.
So leaving aside Anwar’s superior oratory skills and empowering personality, what else has he proven himself to us in ?
Please do not misinterpret what I am trying to deliver here. I do believe that we are on the crossroads of political change and Anwar is at the moment our possibly best candidate by chance or default, to become our next PM. However what is of paramount importance is that Anwar must come clean of his past as well as his present and future agendas and it is the Rakyat that is important and should be the ones in total control of the destiny of this country and not just one person.

Harris,
Id this piece of supposedly “truth” you write is calculated to damage PR when you tried to demonise Anwar who had tried very hard to galvanise the opposition heading for Putrajaya ?
When the opposition is getting stronger, you are now throwing in the spanner and allow the BN-paid cybertroopers to have their field day. Unless you can convince me otherwise, then I smell a rat.
Why is SABM now trying to shape the people’s mind in having a third force when knowing very well that this will split the opposition and allow BN to romp home ?
I failed to understand why bigger national issues like race relations and those racist bigot educationists were not condemned and the turn ex-PM abandoning is “Bangsa Malaysia” was not even touched upon.Yes, you can be SABM but sincerely, deep down nothing had been done to condemn and change the present set of corrupted and racist BN leaders. How sad !
Please adhere closely to your noble aims of fostering a united nation and do not try to undermine the efforts made thus far in bringing down the present BN government by writing sometimes comments which cast doubts on the sincerity of the PR leaders.
Your first task to promote a Bangsa Malaysia is to remove a racist government. Let this be the first task and then talk others. But now , you are trying to create havoc to the opposition plans to dethrone the BN. First thing first.
steven soh
August 26, 2010
He has been paid to create havoc. It is his job. You are sharp enough to notice the number of UMNO cybertroopers pitching in to assist him. The Third Force is meant to split the votes meant for PR. So those of you who have signed up to be SABM, wake up and don’t be fooled by this deceiver.

Dear haris,
All said and done,Saudara Anwar is a special person. I think he has grown in stature and political maturity. His long political exile has reshaped his thinking. He was once a politician but today has the hallmarks of becoming a leader. People like Churchill and Roosevelt were not without their quirks and political craftiness.
He will soon realise that on his tender shoulders rest the duty and the responsibilty to rally the people together. He needs our understanding and tolerance. Dear Datuk Seri Anwar,if you read this article, my sincere plea to you is ‘please do not let us down. I pray that the good Lord guides you in all your actions.

Dear Eastern Guy,
If you want BN out please use local-based opposition party(ies) to defeat Sarawak BN in the coming election. Please do not even think of a West Malaysian party to defeat another West Malaysian party for you Sarawakians. Otherwise you will regret this for the rest of your lives. Look at Sabah, everything is direct controlled by UMNO from the centre (KL) and PKR is no difference, again as what happened to PKR Sabah (mind you, even still at the party level, not yet at the Government level). It is all because of hidden hands (sometime outright) from PKR centre. So you would be like “out of the frying pan and into the fire”. Believe me!

Haris, since your have started a DNBN Kuburkan BN : Pakatan Rakyat & Barisan Rakyat must join forces and you seemed to have come to a position that the best way forward is still to cooperate with PR, perhaps if ever Zaid cannot play a proper role in PKR like not selected for general election candidacy, he may consider other options like DAP or your Kuburkan BN group.
But I just pray that Zaid do not have much of UMNO in him too.
BTW would you know what are the issues or bills that Zaid voted in when he was an MP?

Anwar is a Grass Root Politicians who rised from ABIM Platform which was his FORTE.. Can Leopard change its spots?
Secondly Zaid was executed by PKR Anwar at Hulu Selangor and now Zaid is like Headless Giant in PKR.. Would anyone place an ” CITY ASSET’ in a 100 votes margin in RURAL SEAT.. ZAID was too a HEAVY WEIGHT in PKR for Anwar / Azmin to handle.. BUT Anyhow though ZAID is good lawyer but was too “DUMB” as Politician to contest for Hulu Selangor Seat!
Thirdly DAP LGE/ LKS completely see the Wolf behind the Sheepskin in Anwar and they will check him in ” Surprising Manner”.. The Mechanism is already in place and operating!!!

Also congrats on your clever investigative journalism.

For his having suffered so much in the way of public degradation and still is suffering, he has a great deal of sympathy.
Let’s hope he comes clean and discloses himself.

Anwar sole aim is to be the PM of this Country.. therefore He is FORCED to work with Fundamentalist Opposition to achieve him aim as PM in the fastest and shortest route.. If Anwar is a PM.. Do you think there will ever be any change in this Country..? PKR shd be led by people like Zaid.. the very reason Zaid was executed in Hulu Selangor.. Anwar wants only “Ghaffar Babas” around him like “Ghaffar Sivarasa Baba”, “Ghaffar Tian Chua Baba & “Ghaffar Azmin Baba” to be his mules! Not Thinking or Vocal Leaders!

Haris,
Just to share this…
Opportunism – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opportunism
“Although opportunism often has a strong negative moral connotation, it may also be defined more neutrally as putting “self-interest before other interests” when there is an opportunity to do so, or flexibly adapting to changing circumstances to “maximize self-interest” (usually in a way that “negates a principle previously held”).
In choosing or utilizing opportunities, opportunism is most likely to occur:
Where people can make the most gains for themselves at the least cost to themselves.
Where relevant internal or external controls on their behaviour are absent.
Where people are pressured to choose and act.
If people are criticized for being “opportunists”, this usually refers to “a situation in which the beliefs and principles which people have are being put to the test (or are being challenged).” Unquote.
You be the judge.
Cheers.
