Holding to the truth.
That’s what satyagraha literally means.
The truth is that until of late Samy Vellu denied that there was anything amiss with the lot of the Indian community in the country. He denied this all the way to India.
Now Samy comes up with the ‘7 issues affecting the Indians’ .
Earlier, Najib contended that the temple in Shah Alam was rightly demolished because it was built on private property.
Now he says, ‘That was wrong…We are sorry’. Najib also asks, ‘Do you think your future can be guaranteed by those staging street demonstrations?..’
Ask Najib now : ‘Would you have apologised for the temple demolition but for our 30,000 brothers and sisters on the streets on 25/11?’
The truth is BN has raped all of us blind over the years.
Hold on to this truth.
The truth is that BN will lie to us just to get our votes.
Hold on to this truth.
If in doubt, check out your PM’s pre-2004 election promises
People, do not forget Saffron Sunday.
Do not forget that our brothers and sisters rallied to call for an end to marginalisation, deprivation and neglect of any and all Malaysians.
Hold on to the truth.

The Indians should be reminded of the Chinese SUQUI list of their wants before the 1999 elections. The Mahathir led UMNO seemed to welcome it. The Chinese gave The UMNO led government a superb victory when everyone thought it might be otherwise. Then shortly after the GE, the SUQUI guys were called communists and there was all kinds of threats from UMNO.
Now it is the turn of the Indians. Sadly, Indians like getting conned over and over again!

The 7 issues affecting the Indians did not arise over the last year, 2 years or 3 years. There were there for umpteen years. What more proof do the Indians need in this country that the MIC is way past useless?
Get rid of them.

Credibility Check!!
—————–
Credibility plays an important role in every unit of the society for economic as well as social development.
From Personal to government.
From credit line for business, mortgage, credit card, to the faith of rules and regulations of the Government.
When they are fading out, the economic and social get broke!
When Politicians broke their promises, they broke the faith of the People towards their jobs!
They broke the CREDIBILITY of the Government to work!
They CLOT the normal function of the Offices and the Society to work!
They are bruises or gore to be removed!!
They are suffocating the Heart of the Government in many respects!
Vote THEM out to regain the Normal Function of the Offices and Society in all respects!!

Heard from an insider that there are 56 parliamentary seats in which the Indian votes may be the determining factor.
BN, and in turn MIC, are at sixes and sevens on their next strategy. Basically, they do not have a viable option coz the tried and tested ‘divide and rule’ ain’t working no more.
And what was it that NTR said? “Re-engineer yourself to remain relevant” to a gathering of about 3000 MIC branch chairmen at PWTC recently.
Strangely, he also said “What will happen if the malays in Kampung Baru begin to rise up (in protest)?”.
Sounds like NTR wants all others to change while UMNO retain the status quo. His deliberate reference to the malays in Kampung Baru (and not malays of any other area) gives credence to the ‘Was a plan being hatched…’ series here at TPP.
Before we can hold on to the truth, we need to continually strive to seek it
Our politicians, however, are busy with other plans.

Meanwhile the Boycott MSM signature drive has reached the 744 mark. Let’s make sure it goes into the 4th digit by weekend. Chinese folks should spread the word during the Reunion Dinner. What better time to spread the united theme?
If we fail to get to the 1000th mark, Helen Ang may just go on sabbatical, never to be heard from again. We certainly don’t want that in the year of the Tikus.
The MIC is running tikus already. So they put up a 7-point masterplan which underscores how poorly they have served the Indians. What a good laugh.

The sad thing is, the authorities are holding 5 people who have dared to open their eyes to the truth. In this case, the truth has not set them free.

Ha-ha, Birdseye, you teasing me some more …
To update on this topic, our ‘Boycott the Newspapers!’ is getting support from across the broad in terms of race (I disclose this, much as I’m aware that Haris and some PP participants are allergic to anything that smacks of an ethnicity-based approach).
However, for the purpose of strategizing, such a racial breakdown sadly helps. So relatively speaking, I will say Hartal has struck a stronger chord with the Indians.
My conjecture: the language of the petition as well as contents of our Boycott series has been sympathetic to the issues marginalizing the Indian community, and hence I believe our genuine concern resonates with this audience.
With the Malays we’re not reaching, there’s the language barrier as our petition is in English. This community represents a vast reservoir that would otherwise support Hartal, for instance, my PAS friends in Terengganu who harbour a healthy skepticism for MSM – in their case, the Malay papers. The pity is they’re not wired.
PP really has to put in more effort along this front as there’s a lot of potential to be tapped if we could only bridge the divide. A Balik Kampung outreach by supporters of Hartal will be of great help.
For Chinese, the newspaper readership is fragmented. A greater majority read the Chinese press and some younger ones who are products of national schools, the Malay papers.
As has been pointed out to us, the landscape and dynamics are slightly different in the vernacular arena and the Chinese press is fiestier. Admittedly, we’ve only been concentrating on countering spin in English-medium MSM. At present, we simply lack the resources to do more in this area (i.e. monitor Chinese and Malay newspapers).
Perhaps Haris could invite Chin Huat to pen a guest post in PP as his outfit WAMI has an extant boycott of Chinese MSM. When MCA took over Nanyang Siang Pau some years ago, the reading public successfully knocked circulation of that newspaper to show its disapproval of the ownership consolidation.
The direction I’m taking in writing my comment now is that this initiative provides an opportunity for us – Malaysians of all races – to show solidarity. A number of the Boycott discussions in PP carry my byline and personally, Hindraf’s cause, though not exactly its top leadership (unjustly detained), has my empathy. And I’ve more than clearly stated how turned off I am by how MSM has been spinning and clouding the truths of the matter.
Can’t we just close ranks and sock it to the falsehood mongers?! Why should it be that Hartal is getting a proportionately much stronger support from Indians?

To clarify as I don’t wish to be misconstrued, my stand is there’s no justification for Uthaya and friends to held under ISA.
I wrote this in m’kini (Dec 27): “Let’s pray for the release of the Hindraf five and the 80-plus others unjustly detained under ISA, half of whom who are alleged to be Islamic militants.
“Ours is a government that locks up citizens without
substantiating its charges. But on top of prayer, let’s protest. Listen and follow the voice of our heart. It’s our religious duty to dissent against this wrongdoing
government.”

More not-quite-true BN propoganda is seen here in the contents of a letter viewed in another blog, reproduced below. Did anyone watch that program or could the writer have been mistaken ?
Letters
by Oldtimer
I am appalled by the way the government misrepresented
the culture of the Chinese. On the second day of
Chinese New Year, at 9pm, RTM broadcasted the Panorama
programme which showed what a “typical” Malaysian
Chinese family preparing for Chinese New Year. Instead
of showing a typical Chinese family, they purposely
showed a Muslim Chinese family and passing the family
off as a typical family. They showed the food
preparations and, of course, did not show any pork
dishes. How can you not show pork dishes for Chinese
new year? They also did not show the people going to
temple and worship their ancestors. Instead they tried
to show this Chinese Muslim family celebrating Chinese
New Year the Muslim way.
I have nothing against Chinese Muslim, but they are a
minority among Chinese Malaysians, and do not
represent the majority of Chinese Malaysians.
It is appalling the way RTM is trying to manipulate
the true picture of the Malaysian Chinese. They
purposely did not show the three key elements- pork,
temples and ancestors worship.
If the government is trying to promote Islam among the
Chinese population here they have in fact, created a
bad impression of Muslims in Malaysia. It just showed
how shallow the government’s commitment to plural
society and religious and cultural freedom. By passing
off the Chinese Muslim as a typical Chinese family in
Malaysia, they have gone to the extreme.

Trashed,
Perhaps, for perspective, it would be necessary to know Old Timer’s mindset when he wrote the ‘letter’ you reproduced.
You can find it at Malaysianunplug at this link –
http://malaysianunplug.blogspot.com/2008/01/static-mindset-of-malay-leadership-i-am.html
Was he mistaken or misguided by his own value system? I would think that the Malaysian chinese should not be defined solely within ‘pork, temples and ancestor worship’ especially with a cultural heritage which precedes others by several thousand years.
And since I don’t watch local TV, much less RTM, could someone else who saw that particular program give us an observation.
